Additional Inheritance - Chap 15
Chapter 15
Wen Xiaohui was about to flag down a taxi when Luo Yi said, “There’s no need, I drove here.”
“Huh? Do you have a driving licence?”
“There won’t be anyone checking so late at night.” Luo Yi instinctively grabbed Wen Xiaohui’s hand and led him out of the neighbourhood.
A navy blue ‘batmobile’ was parked on the side street near the gated entrance to the neighbourhood, and Luo Yi led him straight to the car.
Wen Xiaohui’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Holy crap! Is this your car?”
Luo Yi’s face was blank, it was clear that he wasn’t in a good mood. “It was my mum’s car. Get in.”
Despite the scorching pain in Wen Xiaohui’s neck, he threw himself onto the bonnet of the car and said with infatuation, “Baby, you’re gorgeous.”
Luo Yi responded solemnly, “Xiaohui-ge, please get in the car.”
Wen Xiaohui lowered his head due to his guilty conscience and got inside the car. The design of the car seat meant that his waist and his lower half automatically sank into it. The pain of his neck resting against the seat was unbearable, but he didn’t have time to dwell on it. His only thought was to take his mobile phone out for a selfie of his first time in the seat of a Lamborghini and he had even settled on the angle of the photo – it was essential to capture the logo on the steering wheel. However, after Luo Yi closed the car door, he felt that the mood in the car was so gloomy that he was scared to even exhale a little louder.
Wen Xiaohui said softly, “Hey, don’t be angry.”
Luo Yi looked straight ahead without saying anything.
Wen Xiaohui pinched his cheek. “Sweetie1, don’t be angry. It’s my fault. I’ll never lie to you again, really.”
Luo Yi turned to gaze deeply at him. “Have you considered what would have happened if I didn’t make it in time?”
Wen Xiaohui recalled his fear of suffocation back then, which was petrifying.
Luo Yi took a deep breath and turned his body around to hug Wen Xiaohui. Resting his chin on Wen Xiaohui’s shoulder, he whispered into his ear, “I’ve already lost my mum, I don’t want to lose you as well.”
Wen Xiaohui threw his arms around Luo Yi, and his heart ached as he gently stroked Luo Yi’s back. While he was distressed for Luo Yi, he was also emotional and felt ashamed of himself. He deeply regretted his rash actions today; as according to Luo Yi, the consequences would have been unthinkable if he didn’t arrive in time. There were only two men in the world who cared so much about him, his father and the only person who cherished him – this youth in front of his eyes. He replied softly, “You won’t ever lose me. I’ll be honest with you in future.”
“You’re not allowed to lie to me again.” Luo Yi gently coiled Wen Xiaohui’s hair around his slender finger. “I can tell what you’re thinking so you’re better off speaking the truth.”
Wen Xiaohui suddenly felt as awkward as if he were streaking in a crowded city centre – a sort of mental streaking, and he begrudgingly answered, “Okay.”
“Let’s go, I’ll patch you up back home.”
Lup Yi started up the car, and the engine accelerated from nought to 80 miles per hour in the blink of an eye. Wen Xiaohui became excited by the experience of riding in a supercar. “Wow, how come I haven’t seen this car before?”
“It’s kept in the underground garage.”
“Do you secretly take it out for a spin now and again?”
Luo Yi shook his head. “I don’t have a driver’s licence, so I can’t go street-racing.”
“Then how did you learn to drive?”
“You don’t really need to learn.”
Wen Xiaohui’s eyes widened in shock. “Is this your first time driving?”
Luo Yi nodded. “It’s difficult to get a taxi from my house. I was in such a hurry to get here that my only option was to drive.”
“Shit! Why don’t I drive instead? At least I have a licence.”
Luo Yi replied, “It’s fine, it’s really easy.”
Wen Xiaohui gulped, his heartbeat went badump, badump. Fortunately, Luo Yi drove smoothly and didn’t go too fast. Although Wen Xiaohui couldn’t experience the true pleasure of being in a supercar, he firmly believed that staying alive was more important.
Luo Yi drove home without any mishaps and it was Wen Xiaohui’s first time in the garage even though he had lived in the villa for such a long time. There was actually another SUV that clearly belonged to Yaya and he was unable to imagine how affluent she was. He had been holding his tongue, but he became increasingly curious about Yaya and Luo Yi’s father.
Luo Yi took out the first aid kit and gently used the cotton swab to apply medicine to the purplish bruises on Wen Xiaohui’s neck.
Wen Xiaohui gritted his teeth in pain. He shouted and cursed at the same time. “That bastard! Why didn’t I get rid of him? Ow, it’s sore…”
Luo Yi’s gestures were very gentle. “Be patient, I’m nearly done.”
Wen Xiaohui’s bottom lip quivered. “Will this leave a scar? I’ve been coating my neck in cream since I was 16 and my wrinkles are super faint. I have a very beautiful neck.”
“It’s a superficial wound that resulted in bruising and won’t leave any scars.”
“That’s great. Ow, my head hurts too.”
“What happened to your head?”
“I bashed it against the coffee table, and I still feel dizzy now.” He touched it gently, and he felt the lump on his head.
Luo Yi said, “We can only keep an eye on this.”
Wen Xiaohui said with concern, “What should Sydney-jie do? After all, they used to be married, so he must have a load of stuff that he can use to blackmail her.”
“Don’t get involved. It’s none of your business and you can’t do anything to help her.”
Wen Xiaohui sighed, “I understand, but I feel awful seeing her entangled with this kind of scumbag.”
“In any case, you can’t act recklessly again.”
Wen Xiaohui nodded with dismay.
Luo Yi wound the white gauze around Wen Xiaohui’s neck several times. Wen Xiaohui took out his mobile phone for a selfie. He exclaimed, “Tsk, I forgot to take a photo of the car.”
“You can take a photo of it whenever you want,” Luo Yi added, “But you can’t include the car registration number2 in the photo.”
“Really?”
“Go take a shower, but be careful about getting it wet.”
Wen Xiaohui stretched his waist. “You should go to bed soon.”
After Wen Xiaohui left to go to the bathroom, Luo Yi’s hand reached for his pocket and took out a wallet. The wallet looked like it had been used for ages, the leather was old and cracked, with a good deal of wear and tear. It emitted a strong stench of alcohol. Luo Yi opened the wallet to find an ID card stored in one of the inner compartments, which belonged to Sydney’s ex-husband.
Luo Yi carefully extracted the ID card and scrutinised the photo of the man. He narrowed his eyes ominously…
Wen Xiaohui spent a couple of days at Luo Yi’s and it was time to return home. He originally wanted to wrap a scarf around his neck, however, he would only draw more attention to himself if he wore one at the height of summer. He could only put on a bold face and welcome the shitstorm.
As expected, Feng Yuehua stared at Wen Xiaohui as soon as he entered the doorway and pointed the rolling pin in her hand at him. “What happened to your neck?!”
Bowing formally, Wen Xiaohui replied, “Royal Mother, could you3 please take a seat and listen to your offspring’s explanation.”
Feng Yuehua almost threw the rolling pin at him and she said sternly, “Stop bullshitting! Were you in a fight?!”
With a face full of misery, Wen Xiaohui responded, “I wasn’t looking for trouble, mum. Do you remember that I went to pick up my friend the other day? He drank so much that he got physical with someone and I had to protect him.”
“You’re trying to protect others with your feeble little body4?” Feng Yuehua rushed over and slapped him on the head. “You’re always hanging out at dodgy places and you never listen to me. If something happens to you, how do you expect your mother to live on?”
Feeling guilty, Wen Xiaohui said, “Mum, it’s my fault. Nothing actually happened, I just have some bruises from being pinched. Don’t worry.”
Feng Yuehua looked at his neck, it wasn’t oozing blood and he seemed fine, so she was able to breathe a sigh of relief. She glared at Wen Xiaohui. “I’m not expecting you to give me a grandchild. The Wen family bloodline will end with you, so you should at least live a few more years and repay the debt to your ancestors.”
Wen Xiaohui mumbled to himself, “Who said that our Wen family’s bloodline will die out? Can’t we find a surrogate?5”
“Can you afford to find one? You’re better off finding a way to give birth by yourself.” Feng Yuehua thrust the rolling pin into his hand. “Come help me.”
“I’m at your command.”
As Wen Xiaohui was washing his hands at home, his mobile phone rang. He looked at his mobile and it was an unknown number. “Hello?”
“Wen Xiaohui, it’s Shao Qun.”
Wen Xiaohui felt nervous immediately. “Hello Young Master Shao.”
“Do you want to go out for dinner?”
“Oh Young Master Shao, I’m working the night shift. I’ll be eating a rice box at the studio.”
“Then let’s go for a drink after work.”
“I have to return home straight after work. My mother is really strict.”
Shao Qun chuckled, “It’s so difficult to arrange a time to meet up with you.”
“It’s even harder to arrange a time if you want to hook up with me.”
“Fine, let’s get back to business. Have you considered what we discussed last time?”
“Last time, I…” Wen Xiaohui remembered how he wanted to decline his offer last time and Luo Yi’s words suddenly came back to him. Shao Qun phoned him, but he should discuss it with Luo Yi first. Therefore, he changed his tune and said, “That thing, erm, I need some more time to think about it.”
“Why don’t you name your price?”
“It’s not about money.”
“It’s definitely a matter of money. 99.9% of the world’s problems relate to money. If I offered you 100 million yuan, would you still refuse?”
Wen Xiaohui laughed, “You’re so wise. The crux of the matter is that you can’t afford to offer me 100 million yuan, Young Master Shao. Could you please allow me some more time to consider it?”
“Okay, I’ll give you another couple of days.”
Wen Xiaohui immediately sent a text message to Luo Yi once he hung up: Shao Qun called me and invited me out for dinner and drinks. He asked whether I’d finished deliberating what we discussed the other day.
Luo Yi quickly responded with: I’m busy, speak to you later.
Wen Xiaohui jammed his mobile phone back in his pocket in boredom, and went to help his mum make dumplings.
Feng Yuehua wrapped dumplings and simultaneously gave Wen Xiaohui the side eye. She suddenly said, “I have a feeling you’re hiding something from me.”
Wen Xiaohui was so scared that his hands trembled. “Mum, my monthly salary is only 1,500 yuan. I can’t even afford to buy the foundation that caught my eye.”
“No, that’s not it.” Feng Yuehua narrowed her eyes, “I’m still convinced that you’re dating.”
Wen Xiaohui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Honestly, I’m not.”
“Do you think you can hide it from me? You had a boyfriend in your third year of secondary school. You broke up just as I was wondering how to deal with you, so I pretended that I didn’t know anything.”
Wen Xiaohui tucked his neck back into his body. “Mum, you must have such sharp eyesight6 to be able to tell.”
“How you’re acting now is just like before; you’re stupidly happy all the time, secretly sending text messages and making calls. Your phone hasn’t left your hand.” Feng Yuehua narrowed her eyes, “Tell me the truth, are you cohabiting with someone?”
Wen Xiaohui refuted her in a hurry, “Mum, I’m not. I met a few handsome guys recently so I’m just chatting with them. If I really have a boyfriend, I promise I will definitely tell you first. Why would I hide such good news from you?”
Feng Yuehua glared at him, “Can you swear that you’re not dating?”
“I swear, I’m not dating. If I’m lying to you, I’ll gain… 20 pounds!”
Feng Yuehua snorted gently, “And add a face full of spots.”
“Mum! You are so ruthless!”
“Hmph.”
Wen Xiaohui continued to ponder his mother’s words, “Stupidly happy all the time, secretly sending text messages, making secret calls, phone not leaving his hand.” Was he really like this? It seemed like he was in love no matter how you looked at it, but the subject wasn’t his boyfriend, instead it was a 15 year old youth, his sister’s son.
Wen Xiaohui was shocked. A warning bell sounded momentarily in a tiny corner of his heart, but this was promptly ignored.
