Additional Inheritance - Chap 49
Chapter 49.1
Luo Yi gently pinched Wen Xiaohui’s face. “Try to remember.”
Wen Xiaohui went from pale to flushed, then from flushed to gloomy1. He trembled as he pointed at Luo Yi. “It… It was you!”
“Of course it was me. How could I let another man touch you?”
Wen Xiaohui experienced the sensation of having someone smash a stone slab on his chest2 – the force was enough to stupify him. He pieced together the fragments of his memories and it seemed as though Luo Yi had been present. It was just because the person he saw immediately before he got drunk and after he woke up was Li Shuo and therefore, he automatically assumed that he and Li Shuo…
“Fuck!” shouted Wen Xiaohui as he punched Luo Yi on the shoulder. He didn’t hold back when delivering the punch, causing Luo Yi’s complexion to change. Wen Xiaohui struggled, pushing Luo Yi away. He leapt to his feet, then released a torrent of abuse: “Luo Yi, you stupid cunt! I fucking thought that Li Shuo and I slept together while we were drunk. I… I thought… You stupid cunt!” Wen Xiaohui felt more and more aggrieved as he spoke, and he sounded like he was sobbing.
He was also an idiot because he’d been so depressed over a misunderstanding.
Luo Yi rubbed his own shoulder. “Xiaohui-ge, I’m sorry. I should have really stayed to keep you company.”
“Bullshit! You ran off without saying a word after sleeping with me3. Even with one night stands, you need to leave some money behind to pay for the room. With a flick of your damn sleeve, you didn’t even take a wisp of cloud away with you4. The first person I saw as soon as I opened my eyes was Li Shuo. Why wouldn’t I misunderstand?”
Luo Yi’s face looked full of remorse. “I didn’t want you to misunderstand either… I’m sorry. Something urgent came up at my company at the time and you seemed really tired, so I didn’t want to disturb you. Xiaohui-ge, it’s my fault. Don’t be mad, alright?”
Wen Xiaohui stuck his middle finger up at him – he felt so angry that his lungs were about to explode. “The sight of you makes me want to commit murder. I’m leaving or there’s going to be a homicide.” He picked up his clothes and dashed to the door.
How could Luo Yi let him go this time? With a big stride, he rushed over and picked him up around the waist.
Wen Xiaohui didn’t even weigh 60kg, so Luo Yi thought he was as light as a feather.
Wen Xiaohui kicked his legs in mid-air. “Let go of me! You stupid cunt of a bastard!”
Luo Yi was holding him, then threw him onto the sofa. Once again, his body pressed Wen Xiaohui’s down onto the sofa.
“Luo Yi! Let go of me!” Wen Xiaohui was like a monkey as he started to struggle.
Luo Yi grabbed both of his hands and secured them above his head. At the same time, he pinned Wen Xiaohui down by his legs, so that he was unable to move.
Wen Xiaohui glared at Luo Yi fiercely like a kitten that had been provoked.
Looking at him, Luo Yi couldn’t stop himself from laughing.
“Why the hell are you laughing?!” Wen Xiaohui bared his teeth.
Luo Yi lowered his head to kiss him. “I’m sorry, it’s my fault. You’ll get wrinkles if you’re angry.”
As soon as Wen Xiaohui heard those words, his expression became a lot calmer, but his anger still hadn’t dissipated.
Luo Yi kissed him once more. “I’m sorry to have caused such a misunderstanding. Whenever I recall how you thought you and Li Shuo were together, I feel worse than you.”
Wen Xiaohui wanted to hurl abuse at someone, so Luo Yi kissed him once again. “I’ve been thinking about you since yesterday evening. Actually, I didn’t call you earlier because I was too ashamed… Xiaohui-ge, please don’t be mad at me anymore.”
Luo Yi kissed Wen Xiaohui every time he apologised. He continued until Wen Xiaohui calmed down.
After seeing Wen Xiaohui’s attitude towards him soften, he gave Wen Xiaohui a lingering kiss on the lips. His manner was very gentle.
Wen Xiaohui mumbled, “This matter hasn’t gone away so quickly. I’m a petty person.”
Luo Yi smiled and replied, “I know.”
“Yesterday, Luo Rui spent the whole day comforting me because of this incident and I still have to give him an explanation. Oh shit, it’s such an embarrassment5.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Stop apologising. It’s annoying to hear.” Wen Xiaohui turned his head away as he thought about what had happened in the past two days. It would’ve been hilarious if it hadn’t happened to him.
Luo Yi stroked Wen Xiaohui’s back and he whispered, “Is it still sore?”
Wen Xiaohui blushed. “Shut up!”
Luo Yi held him tightly in his arms. “I feel like I’m dreaming, being able to hug you like this.”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart began to soften. “Okay, I’ll stop beating you up for now. Let me get up.”
“Let me hold you for a bit longer.”
Luo Yi’s embrace was warm and broad, making Wen Xiaohui want to lean on him even more. He couldn’t help but curl and arch his body further into Luo Yi’s arms.
Luo Yi’s lips touched the hair by Wen Xiaohui’s temples. He said softly, “You’ve given me so much, but I don’t know what I can give you in return.”
Thinking that those words sounded odd – not the content, but in the way that they were spoken, Wen Xiaohui said, “I haven’t contributed much to your adult development. You mostly looked after yourself, but I did indeed help to straighten out your life values. Hmm.”
Luo Yi smiled faintly. “Yeah.”
“But the end result is that you’re still bent…” Wen Xiaohui laughed at himself.
Luo Yi also laughed. “I don’t care if I’m bent or not. I only like you.”
Wen Xiaohui looked into Luo Yi’s eyes which were at close proximity. He whispered, “When did you start to like me?”
“I can’t think, but before I knew it, I wanted to be with you forever.” Luo Yi gently brushed away the fringe obscuring Wen Xiaohui’s eyes. “Before we met, I never thought that there would be someone like you.”
“Me? What kind of person am I?”
“Someone who trusts me wholeheartedly and treats me well.”
Wen Xiaohui smiled. “So what? If you were willing, loads of people would want to treat you well too.”
“But I don’t need them. You’re the only one I need.”
A gush of happiness surged forth in Wen Xiaohui’s heart. He grumbled quietly, “You say it so nicely, but you ran off after sleeping with me. I feel angry whenever I think about it.”
“It won’t happen again.” Luo Yi used his head to rub against Wen Xiaohui’s neck. “Don’t get angry, alright?”
The corners of Wen Xiaohui’s lips curled up into a smile. The joy and happiness from being in love almost overspilled from his chest.
That night when they went to bed, Luo Yi couldn’t stop himself from touching Wen Xiaohui. Wen Xiaohui’s bottom was still in pain, so he was unwilling to do it. However, his lust had been aroused by Luo Yi’s teasing.
Despite being inexperienced when it came to sex, they both craved it a lot. Kissing and hugging each other, they rubbed their guns and discharged6.
Wen Xiaohui panted, “I really can’t. I-It hurts there.”
Luo Yi kisses landed on his chest repeatedly. “I won’t put it in.”
Their limbs became entangled as they caressed each other. In one night, they released twice before they were satisfied and fell asleep in each other’s arms.
Wen Xiaohui and Luo Yi spent a period of time together that was incomparably sweet.
They used to be in frequent contact with each other, but their daily exchanges once they started dating were enough to cause a phone to overheat.
—————————————
After Luo Rui found out about the huge misunderstanding, he followed Wen Xiaohui’s lead and spent the whole night ranting about Luo Yi. When he saw Wen Xiaohui holding his phone all the time with a dreamy expression, he started to reprimand Wen Xiaohui for valuing love over friendship and for provoking him with public displays of affection.
Wen Xiaohui swished his hips and winked. “We’re passionately in love. Try to be more understanding.”
“Don’t come to my store to be passionately in love.” Luo Rui punched him a couple of times.
“He’s coming here to find me in a little while.” Wen Xiaohui chuckled.
Luo Rui rolled his eyes at him. Seeing that there were few people in the store, he sat down beside Wen Xiaohui. “Have you done it in the past couple of days?”
Wen Xiaohui winked and replied, “Of course we have.”
“What’s it like?” Luo Rui’s eyes sparkled.
Wen Xiaohui got close to Luo Rui’s ear: “He really is 18 cm.”
“Fuck!” Luo Rui couldn’t stop himself from exclaiming. His expression looked like he’d seen a monster as he stared at Wen Xiaohui.
Wen Xiaohui glared at him. “Why are you shouting? I mean once it’s hard.”
“Bullshit!” Luo Rui lowered his voice. “How could it be 18 cm before it’s hard? Do you still want to live?”
Wen Xiaohui laughed maniacally. “He’s also got great stamina.” He covered his face with his hands and started to wriggle again.
Luo Rui’s expression showed that he couldn’t take any more. “So are you guys doing it every night7?”
“Yeah, when I spend the night at his house. Why wouldn’t someone in their prime want to have sex?”
Luo Rui said enviously, “I really want to date someone too.”
“How about the young, handsome guy who was wearing glasses?”
“So it’s like this – he only comes occasionally. His personality is too cold, so I’m too scared to talk to him.”
“You’re a coward.”
Luo Rui clenched his fists. “You’re right, I shouldn’t act like a coward. When he comes next time… I’m going to say a few more words to him!”
Wen Xiaohui rolled his eyes.
Luo Yi arrived and he picked up the cake. They both rode on the bicycle all the way home.
Since they’d been living together for a while, they rarely went out on dates. Instead, they preferred to stay at home to cook, play video games, and watch films. Wen Xiaohui used to love going out to have fun and if he weren’t busy at work, he would probably loiter in bars all the time. Ever since he met Luo Yi, he lost interest in these types of places. He was content just seeing Luo Yi once they got together and he didn’t feel the need to go anywhere else.
Footnotes:
The original text uses colours to describe Wen Xiaohui’s various states, which doesn’t seem as clear in English if I translate it literally i.e. from white to red, then from red to black.
胸口碎大石 [click on link to see pic] or ‘breaking a stone stab on one’s chest’ is a form of acrobatic performance (which I’ve often seen performed by buskers in historic Chinese dramas) where someone lies down and places a large stone slab on their chest. Another person breaks the slab using a hammer. It’s used as a metaphor to describe a blow to the chest.
Uses the pompous form of me (laozi) in this sentence.
This is a reference to a modern poem called 再别康桥 or Taking Leave of Cambridge Again (translation credit to Caroline Chen) by Xu Zhi Mo. The full translation and analysis of the poem can be found at the attached link, but in summary, the poet laments his impending departure from his beloved city of Cambridge, UK. The sentences quoted in this novel refers to the final two lines where the poet quietly departs because he is unable to do anything to change the result. “Gently I flick my sleeves, not even a wisp of cloud I will bring away.”
Loss of face as per the raws
擦枪走火, I’ve relied on the literal meaning of this Chinese idiom because it seems to be used as a metaphor for some heavy petting, rather than the meaning of the idiom which refers to a minor incident that sparks a war.
夜夜笙歌, literally playing music, singing and dancing every night (Chinese idiom). It originally referred to monarchs and generals living extravagant, brutal and lewd lifestyles and has negative connotations. In modern usage, it used to describe someone who is addicted to sex.
Chapter 49.2
Wen Xiaohui pounced on Luo Yi that night as he took out a DVD from behind his back secretively. He said with a lewd laugh, “I found a new film, let’s watch it together.”
Feeling helpless, Luo Yi replied, “Do you find it interesting to watch other people? I prefer to explore by myself.”
“You still need some guidance even if you’re exploring. This one is really awesome!” Wen Xiaohui dashed over to play the adult film and a fierce battle started to play on screen. The two of them also became aroused.
Wen Xiaohui was very gifted in bed. In spite of being a virgin before he did it with Luo Yi, you couldn’t estimate a virgin’s power of imagination. He studied these types of ‘educational films’ a lot and once he stripped off his clothes, he completely gave in to his sultry side. Every night, he provoked Luo Yi until he transformed into a wolf. After experiencing it once, they wanted to try it again and again. They began to research some new positions and new methods. As soon as they met each day, it was like submerging in a pool of romantic pink bubbles1.
Wen Xiaohui never knew of such happiness and contentment in this world. As long as he was with Luo Yi, there was nothing else he needed.
—————–——————
Because they were still in their honeymoon period, Wen Xiaohui inevitably neglected his family. When his mum called to scold him, he remembered that he hadn’t been home in nearly a week. Pissing himself, he ran home in a rush while still carrying the maid outfit that had just been delivered to his office.
When his mum saw him, she cut to the chase: “You’ve been dating, haven’t you?”
Wen Xiaohui said shyly, “Mum, you know me so well.”
“Heck do I know you. You changed your Weibo signature – even a blind person would be able to tell.”
“Oh…”
Feng Yuehua jeered, “What kind of person is he?”
“He graduated from university recently. He started his own business.”
“He’s fresh out of university and he’s brave enough to start his own business. Is his family really rich?”
“Yeah.”
“No wonder. Is he good-looking?”
“He’s really good-looking.” Wen Xiaohui raised his eyebrow and let out an evil laugh. “He has a six-pack2 and he’s 18 cm.”
“Oh, my son is such a high achiever. When will you bring him here so I can meet him?”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart skipped a beat as soon as he heard this. “We just got together. It’s too soon to meet the parents.”
“Oh yeah, we don’t know if his parents approve.”
“Hey, don’t make it seem like we’re about to get married. Why are you taking it so seriously?”
Feng Yuehua nodded. “It’s not that I’m worried you’ll be scammed. I just want to help you screen him.”
“That’s impossible. He’ll never lie to me.” Wen Xiaohui replied resolutely, “He treats me well.”
“That’s good, but don’t stay away from home all the time. You still have a mum.”
“Okay.” Wen Xiaohui said coyly, “Mummy is always the most important.”
Feng Yuehua pinched his face. “What a nuisance!”
“Mum, I want to discuss something important with you.”
“What is it?”
“As you can see, my salary isn’t low and we’ve both built up savings over the past couple of years. Isn’t it the right time to buy a house?”
Feng Yuehua nodded. “I gave it some thought a while ago, but you’ve only just had a pay rise. I’m worried you’ll be under too much stress.”
“House prices will continue to increase in the next few years. It’ll be even more stressful if we buy at that point, so why don’t we buy now? Even if we don’t have enough money to cover the full amount, we can’t be that far off.”
“Do you have a place in mind?”
“A friend of mine recommended me one. It’s in a great district. It’s a duplex of more than 200 square metres and it’s not that expensive.”
“We should go see it sometime.”
“Okay.”
On the topic of the house, Wen Xiaohui automatically thought about how it was part of his inheritance from Yaya. He didn’t know how long he’d be able to conceal this matter. Countless times, he felt the urge to tell his mum everything, but he became more scared the longer he left it. Since he’d already brought up the topic of the house today, he mustered up his courage and decided to tell his mum gradually. He said, “Mum, I have something to tell you. Can you remain calm while you’re listening?”
Feng Yuehua looked at his sudden solemn expression and felt nervous. “What’s wrong?”
Wen Xiaohui rubbed his hands together as he summoned his courage to say: “Do you still remember Yaya?”
Feng Yuehua’s complexion changed a little.
Wen Xiaohui looked at Feng Yuehua and he gulped. “I want to say something relating to Yaya.”
Feng Yuehua examined his expression and heaved a sigh. “You don’t have to say anything. I know what you’re going to say.”
Wen Xiaohui’s eyes widened. “Huh? Y-You know?”
Feng Yuehua lowered her head. “I’ve been keeping it from you for the past few years because I was too afraid to let you find out. I never imagined that you already knew.”
Wen Xiaohui was stunned. What did his mum know? Did she know about Yaya’s passing or did she also know about Luo Yi? He considered it calmly and he decided that his mum was unlikely to know about Luo Yi. Otherwise, it would have been difficult for her not to leave any hints during such a long period of time. He whispered, “Mum, are you worried about me being upset?”
Feng Yuehua nodded. “I have to say, Yaya was really good to you. She saw you as her younger brother. Now that she’s gone, you must feel really sad. That’s why I didn’t have the heart to tell you. In any case, you haven’t been in contact for so many years. It would have been better if you didn’t find out.”
Wen Xiaohui said solemnly, “When did you find out? How did you find out?”
“It was fairly recent. Someone who was in the army with your dad told me. He’s a security guard and Yaya has a house in the neighbourhood where he works. He recently found out that Yaya’s gone. He accidentally discovered it during the property transfer procedures.”
Based on the timing, it must have been when Mr Cao was processing the inheritance.
Feng Yuehua suddenly looked up. “When did you find out? And how did you find out?”
Wen Xiaohui went blank. “I… Sun Ying told me.” He didn’t dare to bring up the timing of this.
Feng Yuehua sighed. “She was only 35. She was so young.”
Wen Xiaohui gripped his mum’s hand.
“Back in the day, I didn’t like her very much. I married your dad when I was 20 and at the age of 22, I became stepmother to a 12 year old child. During that time, everyone had to share the luxuries – but the milk, mutton, chocolate, and fabric for clothing were all hers. Because of her, we were very short on money. In the first two years of marriage, I didn’t buy any new clothes at all nor did I have any photoshoots. But she did. I was young too and as newlyweds, why did we have to take care of someone who was there as a debt collector? Therefore, I decided to get divorced.” Feng Yuehua smiled as she shook her head. “In the end, I discovered I was pregnant with you.”
Wen Xiaohui put his arm around his mum’s shoulders, gently stroking her back. He didn’t want to be the judge of who was right between his mum and Yaya, since it was a question where there was no right or wrong answer. He was upset for his mum and also Yaya.
Feng Yuehua added, “I was even more annoyed after giving birth to you – in modern terms, it’s what you’d call postnatal depression. I worried about her taking your share of the food, your clothes, and the money for your school fees. But I never expected that she would volunteer to look after you and she was very attentive. I could tell she genuinely cared about you. It was strange, but our relationship improved a little after you were born. Eventually, she decided she didn’t want to study anymore and started working. Our family situation slowly improved. Things would never have turned out this way if she didn’t get with that person.” On the verge of tears, Feng Yuehua continued to speak.
Wen Xiaohui also felt upset. It was true. Everything would be different if Yaya never got together with that man. His family would have continued to accept her and his dad wouldn’t have been provoked to the extent of having frequent arguments with her. She wouldn’t have left to never come back and the final outcome wouldn’t have come to fruition. But if none of these things happened, Luo Yi wouldn’t exist. Fate was unpredictable like that; one could only lament the irreversible events of the past.
Feng Yuehua rubbed her eyes. “Let’s not dwell on the past. Find out Yaya’s resting place from Sun Ying, so we can visit her when we have time.”
“Sun Ying might have passed away already.”
“Oh?”
“She told me at the time that she had terminal cancer.”
Feng Yuehua shook her head. “That woman got what she deserved.”
Wen Xiaohui smoothed out his mum’s hair. “Mum, Yaya has a kid.”
Feng Yuehua’s face changed colour. “You must not contact her kid.”
Wen Xiaohui was shocked. “Huh? Why?”
“I heard it’s a boy. He should be 17 or 18 now.”
“Yeah, roughly.” Wen Xiaohui’s heart clenched. “Why can’t I contact her kid?”
“That kid’s father isn’t an ordinary person. Did you think your dad was actually angry because Yaya got with a married man who was 20 years her senior? It wasn’t just because of that. Your dad was a soldier, so he used to perform background checks on others. That man’s terrifying. Yaya gave birth to his son, which is the same as entering a wolf’s den – unless you die, you’ll never be able to escape.
Wen Xiaohui’s voice trembled as he asked, “Who’s his father?”
“It’s hard to say, but in any case, he’s not a good person. He’s not someone you can get involved with. In the end, your dad broke off all ties with Yaya, which was a way of protecting us.” Feng Yuehua said gravely, “No matter what Sun Ying said to you, you must not contact Yaya’s kid. Do you understand?”
“Her kid has nothing to do with this.”
“Of course he has, since he’s that person’s son. You must not get involved with that person.”
Wen Xiaohui frowned. He didn’t expect his mum to have such a big reaction, causing him to feel a faint niggling in his heart.
“I know a little something about the kid. Before your dad passed away, he found some information with help from his ex-colleagues in the military. Actually, we’ve always kept up with news about Yaya, but it was sporadic and not always accurate.”
“What do you know about the kid?”
“The kid is worthy of being that person’s son – he’s a little wolf himself.”
Wen Xiaohui froze. “W-Why is that?”
Feng Yuehua shook her head. “Let’s not talk about it. Go take a shower, then go to bed. Anyway, remember what I told you. Don’t go looking for Yaya’s kid because you’re feeling guilty or curious, or for any other reasons.
Wen Xiaohui nodded rigidly.
—————————–
That night, Luo Yi called when Wen Xiaohui was lying on the bed. “What are you up to? Did you miss me?”
“Yeah.” Wen Xiaohui looked at the ceiling absentmindedly.
“Why does your voice sound so unenthusiastic?” Luo Yi said with a low chuckle, “I wish you were here beside me. You mentioned you had a surprise for me today. What is it?”
Wen Xiaohui thought of the maid outfit he bought, and he laughed. “If I were to tell you, it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore. My mum nagged me to come home, so it’ll have to be some other time.”
“Aren’t you planning to tell your mum?”
“No.” Based on his mum’s reaction today, he felt as though he’d never be able to tell her in this lifetime. However, he knew he couldn’t spend the rest of his life being reckless2, because his mum would find out sooner or later. What would happen then?
In addition, he felt a little worried about what his mum had said. In actual fact, the shadow cast by ‘that person’ never went away, but he and Luo Yi had been fine over the past few years. Furthermore, he was someone who had a sheltered upbringing in the sunlight, so he found it hard to imagine the darker side of society, and he’d always maintained a positive outlook on life. Luo Yi’s reaction to ‘that person’ and his sudden visit gave him the feeling of an impending crisis – it was as if something bad was about to happen.
Hopefully he was thinking too much. He and Luo Yi were so happy and sweet that under no circumstances would he allow anyone or anything to ruin it.
And as for his mum, he would have to continue to hide it from her.
Luo Yi replied in disappointment, “If you want to continue hiding it from her, then let’s continue to do that. I won’t make things awkward for you.”
Wen Xiaohui sighed. “I want to tell her as well, but I really can’t. Or at least I can’t tell her now.”
“It doesn’t matter. Oh yeah, how did the chat about the house go?”
“I told her about the house and she approved of it. How’s Mr Cao getting on with the proceedings?”
“It won’t be long. You’ll be able to receive the money and the house soon.”
“I’ll think of a way to keep it secret when the time comes.”
“I’ll help you.”
Wen Xiaohui laughed, “I think you’re genuinely omnipotent. You’re able to do anything.”
“Yeah, exactly. If only I had Doraemon’s Anywhere Door, then I could appear in front of your eyes as soon as I open the door.”
Luo Yi lowered his voice: “And afterwards, I’d strip off all your clothes3…”
Wen Xiaohui felt the temperature of his body rising when he heard Luo Yi’s voice. He gulped a mouthful of air. “I’ll come find you tomorrow, so get ready for your surprise.”
Footnotes:
According to Baidu, pink bubbles is Chinese slang meaning romantic love. It’s sometimes used as a symbol by someone who wants to confess to another person, because it’s more discreet than asking them out directly.
I used ‘barbaric/reckless’ for the word (蛮) used in the raws, but I have a feeling it might be a typo for ‘conceal’ (瞒). Both have similar pronunciation in Mandarin.
