Additional Inheritance - Chap 50
Chapter 50.1
Indeed, Wen Xiaohui did a lot of preparation in order to do the maid outfit justice – hair removal, full body keratin treatment, and applying body lotion. Because he had to wear a mini-skirt, he dashed out to buy some new panties at the last minute. On the way to Luo Yi’s house, he couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that it wasn’t easy to be a woman.
When he arrived at the house, it turned out Luo Yi wasn’t home yet. Wen Xiaohui arranged the candles, flowers, and incense in the bedroom first, then he changed into the extremely short maid outfit. He styled his hair and pulled the skirt up a bit. Looking at himself in the mirror, he felt very satisfied and cackled.
When Luo Yi walked in the door, Wen Xiaohui felt as though his tiny little heart was about to pop out of his chest. He shouted down the stairs: “Luo Yi!”
“Xiaohui-ge, are you in the bedroom?”
“Duh, come up quickly.”
Luo Yi stomped up the stairs. Wen Xiaohui pushed against the door to stop him from going inside. “Close your eyes first.”
“Oh?”
“Do as I say!”
“I’ve closed them.”
Wen Xiaohui opened the door and dragged him inside. “You’re only allowed to open your eyes when I tell you to.”
Luo Yi smiled and replied, “Okay.”
Wen Xiaohui jumped onto the bed, kneeling into a doggie position until his bum was raised up high and his long legs were stretched out. He whispered, “Open your eyes.”
Luo Yi opened his eyes.
Wen Xiaohui said shyly and timidly, “Master, I broke another vase today.”
Luo Yi was dumbfounded, then he couldn’t stop himself from breaking out into laughter.
Wen Xiaohui rolled his eyes despairingly. “Are you looking for a beating? Work with me.”
Luo Yi tossed his rucksack on the ground, ripping open his shirt as he lunged forward. “You’re the one looking for a beating. Why did you break another vase? You deserve to be punished.”
Wen Xiaohui looked at Luo Yi’s expression until eventually, he burst out laughing.
Luo Yi couldn’t keep up the act anymore. They hugged each other as they laughed, rolling into a heap on the bed.
Wen Xiaohui laughed so much that his tummy ached. He rested his head in Luo Yi’s arms as he grumbled, “I’m so annoyed, I planned it so carefully.”
Luo Yi stooped to kiss him as he unzipped Wen Xiaohui’s skirt. “We shouldn’t let it go to waste.”
“Do you like this surprise?” With a warm and sweet feeling in his heart, Wen Xiaohui licked his lips.
“I like it.” Luo Yi smiled and said, “I have a surprise for you too. You’re sure to like it.”
“What is it?”
Luo Yi rolled over and sat upright, using his long legs to scoop up the rucksack that was on the ground. He took out a paper bag from inside the rucksack. “Open it and take a look.”
Wen Xiaohui took the stuff out of the paper bag – the title deeds1 for the property and a bank card. His eyes glimmered. “This is it!”
Luo Yi nodded as he replied with a smile, “Mum left you them.”
Wen Xiaohui cheered, hugging Luo Yi around the neck. “I’m rich!”
Luo Yi smiled as he caressed Wen Xiaohui’s back.
Wen Xiaohui embraced him tightly. “My sister was so good to me… She was really good to me.” As he spoke, the rims of his eyes suddenly turned red and his voice sounded like he was choked up with emotion. Recalling the conversation that he had with his mum last night, he felt even more sad.
Luo Yi’s eyes dimmed. He said gently, “That’s right. She was really good to you. In my mum’s heart, perhaps you were even more important than me.”
Wen Xiaohui clapped him on the back. “How could that be? You’re her son and she left you so much stuff.”
Luo Yi’s smile had a hint of mockery. “Yeah, she left me so much stuff.”
Wen Xiaohui sniffled as he looked at the title deeds and bank card. “I can’t get used to it – receiving these things all at once. It’s like reaping the benefits without putting in any work.”
“You deserve it,” said Luo Yi.
“I’m a little scared since I’ve never had so much money before. I’m not even sure how to spend it.”
Luo Yi rubbed Wen Xiaohui’s head and he smiled as he said, “It’s only a small sum of money, but you can’t figure out how to spend it? Then how will you manage to spend my money?”
Wen Xiaohui chuckled, “Let me get used to the lifestyle of a rich person first. In future, you can’t resent me for being a wastrel.”
“I won’t resent you.” Luo Yi dipped his head to kiss him. He placed Wen Xiaohui back on the bed as he reached under the skirt to remove his panties.
Wen Xiaohui wrapped his arms around Luo Yi’s waist, kissing him passionately.
Making the most of the perfect mood, it was destined to be another sleepless night.
——————————–
Wen Xiaohui originally thought he would rush to the shopping centre to squander the money and house as soon as he received them. However, after he calmed down, he realised that he still didn’t understand anything. Yaya left it to him as part of his inheritance, so he had to spend it properly.
He found a free slot to take his mum to view the house. It was also the first time he visited the house. They were both mesmerised once they went inside the house. The house was designed in an American style with the main tones of off-white and timber logs. It was simple, but elegant and fashionable. The layout of both floors of the duplex were also reasonable. In addition, the location was good and the neighbourhood was pleasant. It was difficult to find fault with it.
Feng Yuehua said that the house was pretty good, but her only worry was that the price was too high. When Wen Xiaohui recalled how Yaya left the house to him, he felt very moved.
“Mum, this house is really not that expensive. The owner wants to emigrate, so they’re in a rush to liquidate their assets. The price is two or three thousand lower than the other houses in this area. It would be a bargain if we buy it.”
“It’s so much cheaper. Is there something wrong with the house?”
“There won’t be. My friend recommended it to me, so it’s someone I know.”
“I don’t know if we have enough money.”
“I’ve done some calculations. The deposit is 1.5 million and the rest will be covered by the mortgage. It’ll be fine.”
“We should sell our current apartment first, so that we have enough money.”
“Yeah, I’m trying to arrange it.”
Feng Yuehua smiled. “Having lived in the apartment for over 20 years, it’s difficult to get used to the idea of moving.”
“We’ll have to move sooner or later.”
“Okay, I’ll also register at the nearby estate agents, so they can help us sell it.”
“Great.”
After sending off his mum in the taxi, Wen Xiaohui called Luo Yi to tell him that he and his mum went to view the house and they loved it.
Luo Yi smiled as he said, “It’s good that you both like it. You should move as soon as you can since it’s a lot safer there.”
“Yeah, the only thing remaining at the moment is to sell the old apartment to put towards the deposit.”
“I can buy your old apartment.”
“What?”
“If I bought it, Auntie wouldn’t suspect anything and you’ll be able to move in as soon as possible.”
“No, there’s no need for that.” Wen Xiaohui said hurriedly, “Why the heck would you buy it? It’s an old apartment.”
“The housing market will continue to rise over the next couple of years, so I can treat it as an investment.”
“Just leave it, the apartment doesn’t have much investment potential. Don’t waste your time and money because of me.”
Luo Yi chuckled, “It’s worth wasting my time and money for you. Let’s do that then. I won’t lose much.”
“But…”
“No more buts. Don’t you want to move in sooner?”
Wen Xiaohui did want to move in sooner, but he didn’t think it was necessary for the apartment to change hands from his to Luo Yi. Why should they have to waste money like that? For some reason, he felt as though Luo Yi was more keen for him to move than he was.
Luo Yi added, “Whenever I recall how a thief broke into your home, I think that it’s too dangerous. I won’t feel at ease if you continue living there. Be good and don’t argue with me. It’s been decided.”
Wen Xiaohui said, “Okay, but after you buy it, you should sell it as quickly as possible. Even though you’re not short of money, it’s still a million yuan, so don’t tie your money up.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Everything progressed rather smoothly. He told his mum that he put the apartment up for sale online and he had interest straight away. They agreed on a price of 1.5 million yuan in the end. In reality, if others saw that their 80 square metre old apartment sold for 1.5 million yuan, they’d think that they hit the jackpot.
It wasn’t appropriate for Luo Yi to show himself, so Cao Hai handled the conveyancing on his behalf. When Wen Xiaohui accompanied his mum to see Cao Hai, he had to pretend that he didn’t know him. When he thought about all the lies he’d been telling his mum, he felt extremely guilty. But the more lies he told, the more he needed to continue lying and he was more scared than ever about telling the truth. He just wanted to let his mum live a good life and perhaps she would forgive him as a result.
After Wen Xiaohui received the money, he had to go to the bank to arrange a mortgage. Feeling a little worried, Feng Yuehua said, “Why do I feel like things are progressing too quickly? All of a sudden, we sold our home and now we’re buying a house. Not only that, the house was a lot cheaper than the average asking price. Will it be alright?”
“It’ll be fine, Mum. Isn’t it good that things are progressing quickly?”
“I mentioned it to your Uncle Ian the other day and he told us to be cautious. Usually, it’s the houses looking for a quick sale that have the most problems. Why don’t we ask him over to take a look?”
“It’s fine, it was recommended to me by a friend. What could go wrong? In any case, the purchase will follow legal procedures. Just leave it to me and you can look forward to living in a new house.”
Still feeling anxious, Feng Yuehua knitted her eyebrows.
Footnotes:
The ‘red book’ title deeds look a bit like a passport. It’s issued by the government and grants the owner rights to own, transfer or mortgage the property in question.
Chapter 50.2
Although Wen Xiaohui said he was going to apply for the mortgage on his own, in reality, he’d been wandering around home decor and furniture stores with Luo Yi for the past few days. The house was ready for him to move in, but it was likely that something wouldn’t be quite to his tastes, so he’d have to spend some time sorting it out.
Strolling around, Wen Xiaohui suddenly chuckled, “Do you think we seem like a couple who are renovating a house before we get married?”
Luo Yi smiled and replied, “Yeah, we do.” Acting as though no one else was around, he held Wen Xiaohui’s hand.
“If we end up living together in future, I’m not going to let you bring all your junk into our bedroom or it’ll end up looking super messy.”
“Okay, I’ll do as you say.”
“I need to leave a room free to be my dressing room – one wall will be for my makeup and the other for my shoes.” There was a twinkle in Wen Xiaohui’s eyes as he pictured it.
“No problem.”
Wen Xiaohui gave him a sidelong glance. “Won’t you despise me for being a spendthrift?”
Luo Yi smiled and said, “Mum was the same. I don’t think it’s a big deal; it’s fine as long as you like it.”
Wen Xiaohui hugged Luo Yi around the waist, rubbing against his chest eagerly. “You’re so good to me.”
The people around them gave them strange looks, but neither of them cared.
After walking around all day, they finally settled on a few pieces of furniture, then they went for dinner at a restaurant that had great ambience. Wen Xiaohui suddenly realised that this could be considered a date, which meant that they had to end it with a 300-round battle in the sheets before it could be considered successful.
——————————-
Towards the end of the year, Luo Yi successfully earned his degree. Wen Xiaohui felt extremely proud because his partner was handsome, intelligent, and wealthy, as well as having a sizable ding-dong1. He was perfect!
After New Year’s Day, Wen Xiaohui brought the title deeds back home. He was ecstatic as he told his mum that the ownership of the house had been transferred to him, so they could move in right away.
He originally thought that his mum would be delighted, but his mum only stared at him without saying a word.
As soon as Wen Xiaohui saw her expression, he knew it was the calm before the storm2. He immediately felt a tightening in his chest. “Mum, what’s going on?”
“How did you get the house?”
“Huh? What are you talking about, Mum? Do you have amnesia?”
Feng Yuehua replied sternly, “How long were you planning to lie to me?!”
Wen Xiaohui was stunned and he broke out in a cold sweat as a result of his guilty conscience. He’d lied to his mum so much that he couldn’t tell which lie she was referring to.
Feng Yuehua was so furious that she stood up, then she rushed over and slapped Wen Xiaohui across the face. “I was worried that there was something wrong with the house and that you were being conned. I asked Ian to help me look into it. The house used to be Luo Yaya’s until it was transferred to you a while ago!”
A buzzing sound rang in Wen Xiaohui’s head. He covered his cheek with his hand, and he felt lost as he stared at his mum.
“Yaya left the house to you, but you hid such an important matter from me! How dare you hide things from me!” Feng Yuehua was so angry that her whole body was trembling.
“Mum, I’m sorry. I was worried you wouldn’t approve. That’s why…”
“Of course, I won’t approve. Do you know Yaya’s money came from illegal sources? Do you know who Yaya’s partner was? How could you dare to accept her house?!”
Wen Xiaohui started to tremble. This had never occurred to him.
The rims of Feng Yuehua’s eyes turned red. “Was there anything else besides the house?”
Wen Xiaohui struggled internally, feeling too scared to say anything.
“Speak!”
“There was also three million.”
“You!” Feng Yuehua was speechless. “You’ve gone mad! You’re just a kid and you dare to make decisions by yourself for such an important matter. Have you been bewitched by money?!” Feng Yuehua picked up a cushion from the sofa and whacked Wen Xiaohui with it.
Wen Xiaohui wasn’t brave enough to dodge. He felt so wronged that he wanted to cry. It was initially good news, so how did it turn out this way? He wasn’t bewitched by money – his only thought was that Yaya had left it to them because she’d regarded them as the special people in her life.
Feng Yuehua was tired from beating him up, so she plonked her bottom down on the sofa. She started to cry.
“Mum…” Wen Xiaohui didn’t know what to do.
Feng Yuehua’s voice quivered as she said, “The person who bought our apartment has the surname Luo3. In my entire life, I’ve only met one other person who had the surname Luo. I thought it must have been a coincidence, but everything seems connected… Tell me the truth. Tell me what you’ve been hiding from me!” Feng Yuehua’s voice became increasingly shrill – a sign that her anger was at breaking point.
Never in a million years did Wen Xiaohui expect the truth to be revealed under such circumstances. His greatest fear was having to deal with this sort of situation, but in the depths of his heart, he was already prepared. From the day he received Yaya’s suicide note when he decided to hide the truth from his mum, he’d planted a ticking time bomb and sooner or later, it was going to explode. The intensity of the blast would be more extreme the longer the delay.
Wen Xiaohui took a deep breath, wiping away his tears and trying to calm down as much as he could. He decided to tell his mum everything. He didn’t want to continue lying to her regardless of the end result. He sobbed, “Mum, I’m sorry. I was wrong and I’ve been hiding things from you. That person is Yaya’s son.”
“Feng Yuehua trembled as she pointed at him. Her eyes were bloodshot. She asked hoarsely, “When did you first meet?”
“It was two and a half years ago.”
“You…” Feng Yuehua bit her lip, as she struggled to get a word out.
“I found out about Yaya’s passing soon after it happened. Sun Ying told me when she delivered the suicide note. Yaya asked me to look after her son…” Wen Xiaohui lowered his head. “I couldn’t refuse her dying wish.”
“Two and a half years ago…” Feng Yuehua glared at him. “Were you living together with him when you said you were staying over at a colleague’s house after your night shifts? Was that the case?”
Wen Xiaohui’s voice trembled as he replied, “The kid was only 15. I wanted to look after him…”
“15? Do you think 15 years old is that young? Do you know what kind of monster he is?!” Both Feng Yuehua’s tone of voice and her expression looked stern with her bloodshot eyes.
Wen Xiaohui stepped back because he’d never seen his mum look so fierce before. Also, he was very shocked by what his mum said aloud.
Feng Yuehua stood up, drawing closer to him one step at a time. She looked him straight in the eyes and said mercilessly, “When he was 8 years old, he attempted to burn his own father alive in his car.”
Wen Xiaohui’s eyes widened and an image appeared in his mind – the burn scars on Luo Yi’s back. His voice shook: “Mum, stop… Stop scaring me. How do you know? What could an 8 year old kid be capable of?”
“How do I know? It’s because Yaya knelt in front of your dad, begging him to make the deliberate setting of the car on fire look as though the car spontaneously combusted. Otherwise both of them would have lost their lives if that person found out what her son did.”
Wen Xiaohui was terrified. When he listened to these words, it was almost as if the sounds were coming from another planet. What on earth did his mum say? When Luo Yi was 8 years old, he attempted to burn his own father to death? Yaya begged his dad to tamper with the evidence?
Tears streamed from Feng Yuehua’s eyes. “During these few years, did you think we stopped all contact with Yaya? What kind of person was your dad? He was a soldier in the special forces. If he wanted to look into something, he’d manage to find out quickly and accurately. He wanted to save Yaya, but he couldn’t and if Yaya hadn’t begged him like that, I wouldn’t have let him get involved in something as dangerous. We tried our best to cut all ties with Yaya, but you… You’re such a bastard.”
Wen Xiaohui’s mind went blank. “Why? Why did he want to murder his father? W-What was he doing?”
“I’m not sure, but I found from Yaya that it wasn’t his first attempt to murder that person. He tried to poison him before and tampered with his brakes, but because he was too young, he wasn’t meticulous enough and Yaya found out about everything. Eventually with the arson, he would have definitely succeeded if that person’s bodyguard hadn’t found out in time. If that person found out that it was him who did it… That’s why Yaya was so terrified. Her fear wasn’t just because of that person, it was also caused by her son. If he were a normal person, would he think about murdering someone at such a young age? How dare you contact him?!”
Wen Xiaohui’s legs became weak and he sat down on the sofa. He felt a chill over his entire body.
He thought that the Luo Yi his mum mentioned and the one he knew were two completely different people. Compared with a normal person, he had to concede that Luo Yi’s moral standpoint and his empathy were somewhat lacking and that’s why Luo Yi did lots of things that Wen Xiaohui found difficult to accept when he initially wanted to protect him. But it didn’t mean that he was… a monster. Why would Luo Yi do something like that? His flashbacks contained the gentle Luo Yi with the sunny smile and all of the sweetness and happiness that they experienced together.
Wen Xiaohui shook his head forcefully, feeling powerless as he tried to defend Luo Yi. “Mum, I don’t think Luo Yi is that sort of person – he’s a really good kid. You’ll know once you meet him. Could there be some kind of misunderstanding?”
“Do you think I’d make up lies to fool you?” said Feng Yuehua sternly.
“No, I didn’t say you’re lying to me, but Luo Yi really isn’t that sort of person. In any case, even if it were true, he… Maybe he was too young and it was a prank that’d gone wrong? That person never treated him well, so Luo Yi was full of resentment and wanted to cause trouble. It’s excusable.” Wen Xiaohui tried his best to explain by saying these words, but even he himself found it to be a bit of a stretch. However, he was still unable to accept that the person he loved was the ‘monster’ that his mum was referring to.
Feng Yuehua’s became furious, swinging her arm forward to slap him on the face twice. She was so angry that she was speechless.
With tears in his eyes, Wen Xiaohui said, “Mum, I’ve known him for over two years and I think he’s a good person. At least he treats me very well. Really well. He won’t harm me. Trust me this once, Mum.”
Feng Yuehua pushed him away viciously as she snarled, “Piss off! Get the heck out of here!”
“Mum…”
“Get lost!” Feng Yuehua picked up the title deeds, firmly tearing it into two pieces. “I don’t want Luo Yaya’s house or money. Give me my apartment back! Piss off!”
Wen Xiaohui’s whole face was covered in tears. He grabbed his stuff and ran out.
He ran all the way down to the ground floor and he couldn’t hold it in any longer as he started to sob.
What the heck happened today? Why did everything suddenly change? He wasn’t prepared at all for this, so why did so many bombshells drop at the same time?
He felt frightened – an unlimited amount of fear.
His mum was right, she had no reason to make stuff up to lie to him, but if what she said was true… In reality, deep down at the bottom of his heart, he already believed what she’d said. The burn scars on Luo Yi’s back, Luo Yi’s hatred of cars, Luo Yi’s complex schemes and his ruthless ways of doing things… For his sake, Luo Yi would employ improper measures behind his back, but that was one side of Luo Yi. Most of the time, he saw the gentle and sunny Luo Yi, which is why he overlooked it.
A gust of chilling wind swept past. His tears resembled ice, causing bouts of stabbing pain on his face, and his mind was in a muddle. As someone who was kicked out of the family home, he didn’t dare to go to Luo Yi’s house because he didn’t know how to deal with him. He could only flag down a taxi and head to Luo Rui’s house.
———————————-
Luo Rui was stunned by Wen Xiaoui’s appearance as soon as he opened the door. “Baby, what happened? Did you have a fight with Luo Yi?”
Wen Xiaohui shook his head. “It was with my mum.”
“Quickly come inside.” Luo Rui pulled him into the house, using a tissue to gently wipe Wen Xiaohui’s face. “Why did you have a fight?”
“My mum found out about Yaya and Luo Yi.” Wen Xiaohui recounted the whole story except for the parts about Luo Yi’s childhood.
Luo Rui sighed, “She was going to find out sooner or later, so I think it’s better to get over the pain than to prolong the agony. It’s good that she found out. Speaking of which, you don’t have to lie to her anymore and you and Luo Yi can openly be together.”
Wen Xiaohui shook his head. “That’s impossible. My mum refuses to accept Luo Yi – she said Luo Yi’s very dangerous and that I shouldn’t get close to him.”
“Is it because of Luo Yi’s family background? It’s so mysterious. What kind of person is his father? No matter what kind of person he is, even a vicious tiger wouldn’t devour its own cubs. He wouldn’t do anything to Luo Yi and you’re the person that he loves, so he wouldn’t do anything to you either. Don’t you think so?”
Wen Xiaohui looked at Luo Rui’s innocent and big, bright eyes. He really didn’t have the heart to tell him anything else. After all, even if Luo Rui knew, it would only add to his worries without solving anything. He sniffled, “You’re right. I don’t think it’s a big deal either, but my mum doesn’t agree and that’s why we argued. We can’t move house at the moment.”
Luo Rui stroked his head. “Don’t worry too much. Like you, Auntie has a quick temper, so wait for her to calm down, then have a chat with her. Eventually, she will come around4.”
Wen Xiaohui shook his head as he thought it wasn’t likely that his mum would come around to the idea.
“Oh yeah, have you told Luo Yi yet? Luo Yi’s so intelligent, you can ask him to come up with an idea.”
Luo Yi… Wen Xiaohui really didn’t have the courage to face Luo Yi at this moment.
Footnotes:
The raws use the words 丁丁 (ding ding) which is slang for penis (and also the Chinese translation for comic book character Tintin), so I’ve gone for an English equivalent that sounds somewhat similar. The character 丁 by itself can mean a male adult, hence the slang.
山雨欲来 means that a great change is about to happen. The phrase was originally used to describe Xianyang, a city in Shaanxi and refers to the high winds that precedes the rain.
As previously mentioned, the Luo (洛) in Luo Yi’s name is different to Director Luo and Luo Rui. It is a surname dating back to ancient times, thought to originate from the River Luo. It’s currently ranked within the top 1,000 surnames in China.
I think there’s a typo in the raws where the word identical ‘相同’ should be ‘想通’ i.e. someone will come around to the idea, as they all sound similar in Mandarin. The next sentence uses the correct Chinese characters, when Wen Xiaohui confirms what Luo Rui just said.
