Additional Inheritance - Chap 56
Chapter 56.1
A few days later, Li Shuo invited Wen Xiaohui out for dinner. Wen Xiaohui recalled what he’d asked him last time and after some hesitation, he still decided to go. His excuse was that he didn’t want to trouble Li Shuo for nothing and he should at least pay for dinner.
As always, Li Shuo was in high-spirits, handsome and carefree, as if there was nothing in this world that would make him furrow his brows. Standing next to Li Shuo, Wen Xiaohui was illuminated by the dazzling radiance from his body. Wen Xiaohui couldn’t help but ask himself whether he regretted it or not. If he chose Li Shuo in the first place, he wouldn’t have suffered such pain or sleepless nights nor would he have found his food tasteless. After spewing all his worries from the pit of his stomach, all he received in return from Luo Yi was a single phrase: “I don’t know what love is.”
It was a shame that such a supposition was completely pointless and would only add to his troubles.
When Li Shuo first glanced at Wen Xiaohui, he shook his head. “Xiaohui, I’m very concerned about your health – you’re even skinnier than last time.”
“I actually eat a lot.” Wen Xiaohui felt his own cheeks. “I’ve been working out recently, so I look thinner. I haven’t really lost much weight.”
Li Shuo cast him a look of disapproval. “You can’t fool me with those words.”
Wen Xiaohui smiled a little, then lowered his head.
“It looks like you really like him. I’m very curious about the kind of person he is. Do you have any photos of him?”
“I’ve deleted them.” When he thought about it seriously, he and Luo Yi had barely taken any photos together because Luo Yi didn’t like having his photo taken. The rare occasion of a public display of affection was when he uploaded a picture of their intertwining fingers onto his blog. So you could say that the public displays of affection died quickly and said their farewells after a period of three to four months.
“I really shouldn’t be saying this, but if it’s that painful, maybe you should try to see if you could get back together. In a lot of cases, people are able to reconcile their differences and it just depends on whether you’re both able to compromise.”
Wen Xiaohui said with a smile, “Li-dage, your advice is sensible as always, but we really can’t resolve our differences.”
Li Shuo smiled as he nodded. “Okay, then you should try and find a new date to quickly forget him.”
“I… I’ve been too busy recently. Let’s think about it later.” He wasn’t sure how long it would take before he built up enough courage to fall in love again. He felt scared after this experience.
“I used to think like you – that I had to finish a piece of work before I had enough energy to date. Later, I discovered that you should go with the flow for these sorts of things. When the person who makes your heart flutter appears in front of you, you’ll still try your best to find time to date even if you’re feeling dead tired. It’s a pity that I’m not the person to make your heart flutter.” Li Shuo waved his wine glass in the air and winked at him.
Wen Xiaohui laughed as well. “Li-dage, you’re so carefree – it’s as if you’ve never encountered any problems.”
“Who said that? I encounter a lot of problems from a work perspective. It’s challenging to tackle them one after another, but it also gives me a sense of achievement.”
“I meant your relationships.”
“My relationships, huh?” Li Shuo nodded. “Emotions can get out of control very easily and once you lose control, the impacts on others can be devastating. Therefore, if you want to maintain control over your life, you need to learn how to control your emotions first.”
“How can you call it an emotion if you’re able to control it? Emotions make us lose control.”
Li Shuo tilted his head to the side, he was deep in thought for a while. “Before you start a relationship, you should think clearly about what you’re putting into the relationship and what you want to get out of it, what you want and what you don’t want, pros and cons, and gains and losses, and then decide on the next steps. It may be possible for you to assert control over your emotions as you please. One day, if you end up losing control over your own emotions or the person who is on the receiving end of your affection loses control before you, you’ll have an escape route to protect yourself.”
Wen Xiaohui was flabbergasted and he couldn’t hold himself back from saying: “Li-dage, have you truly loved anybody?”
Li Shuo was a little shocked. He smiled slightly as he asked, “Why?”
“Aren’t you controlling your emotions as you please? You’ve never truly loved someone, that’s why you have an escape route to protect yourself.” Wen Xiaohui longed to say these words for a while, but he didn’t think it was necessary as he was in no position to judge Li Shuo’s approach to love. Wen Xiaohui had only decided to retreat in the first place because he was conscious of Li Shuo’s ‘controlling of emotions as he pleased,’ but today, he couldn’t hold himself back. Perhaps it was because he didn’t want to seem too stupid.
Li Shuo narrowed his eyes. “That’s the first time someone told me this.”
Wen Xiaohui lowered his head. “I’m sorry. Actually, I have a foul mouth and I couldn’t stop myself just now.”
“Never mind.” Li Shuo smiled. “I’ve been reflecting on my previous relationships and maybe what you said is right. Are you going to continue? I used to think that I was very clear-headed, but do I seem heartless in your eyes?”
Wen Xiaohui stayed silent for a short while and nodded. “You’re not heartless, but you’ve never fallen in love with anyone. You can treat others well, but you’re unable to make them feel your love.”
“Is that the reason why you rejected me?”
Wen Xiaohui pondered and he nodded again. “It’s one of the reasons.” If before his departure to the US, Li Shuo hadn’t said ‘you’re free’ and instead said ‘be my boyfriend, I’ll wait for you,’ then everything with Luo Yi wouldn’t have happened.
Li Shuo also contemplated for a while. “I like to give each side the maximum amount of freedom and comfort. I feel that this sort of relationship isn’t a burden, but your point of view is very interesting, so I should think about it seriously. Could this be the reason why my love life isn’t going that well?”
“Perhaps it is.”
Li Shuo started to laugh. “Let’s not talk about this. I have some information about the matter you asked me to look into last time.”
“Oh, what is it?” Wen Xiaohui immediately felt his heart clench.
“Changhong Corporation’s newest real estate development is selling very well and the share price has increased a lot recently as a result. It was the best-regarded high-quality stock in the period. I also purchased a little for fun.”
Wen Xiaohui was stunned. This seemed like good news. He didn’t understand stocks, but wasn’t it good for share prices to rise?
“But wait and see, I normally don’t like buying stocks where there is a sudden rise in the share price. I’ve seen too many examples where share prices have plummeted from their peak or where companies prepare fraudulent accounts to frantically rake in money. As a result of capitalism in the US, there’s no direct intervention from the government and every year, extreme events happen in the financial services industry1. A company with a market capitalisation of several hundred billion yuan could collapse overnight. It’s very brutal. In comparison, the Chinese domestic market is more stable, but I’ve already developed a habit of being prudent. In any case, I’m just playing around by buying this stock and if your mum really intends to buy shares of this company, she shouldn’t buy too many at a time.”
Wen Xiaohui’s mind went blank as he listened. He pretended to be stupid when he asked, “Isn’t it good when the share price goes up? Doesn’t everyone buy shares that are rising instead of falling?”
“Buying when prices rise instead of falling is the general rule for the real estate industry, but it might not be the case for the stock markets and you need to consider the specific circumstances. In most cases, it’s good news that the share price is rising, but I’ve seen too many brutal examples and usually avoid these sorts of stocks. Don’t worry too much about it if your mother is just interested in having some fun as a hobby – it should be okay.”
“What might be the reason for the share price continuing to rise? What I’m trying to say is, could there be some kind of misconduct behind it?”
“There could be many reasons – for example, the company could be preparing fraudulent accounts to inflate the share price and afterwards the boss runs away with the money, or the company might be on the verge of a merger and acquisition or takeover and inflating the share price means the company is worth more. Another case might be when someone sets their eye on a company and continuously pours money in to boost the share price. Once it’s at its peak, they’ll cash in and withdraw. The share plummets. The investors2 are unlucky and it’s also the end of the company. However, the chances of these three possibilities happening to Changhong Corporation is very slim. Changhong Corporation’s business is in a healthy state, it doesn’t need to be taken over, and there’s no news of any merger and acquisition activity. The possibility of the last scenario happening is the lowest because you can’t afford to do it unless you have tens or hundreds of billions. How the game works is that the person who has the most money and is the most daring will pour tons of money into it, but once the gamble is lost, one side will lose everything.”
Wen Xiaohui listened to the thudding of his own heart. He didn’t think it was possible for Luo Yi to have so much money, so Li Shuo’s explanation was just speculation.
Li Shuo noticed that Wen Xiaohui’s expression didn’t look too good. “What’s wrong? Rest assured, if the scenarios I described do happen and small investors can make a small profit by following along and buying the shares. You just have to avoid being too greedy.”
Wen Xiaohui smiled. “Okay, I’ll go home and tell my mum, so she’s not making a fuss all the time.”
The food was served. They chatted about other things, but Wen Xiaohui continued to think about what Li Shuo had said. There was an ominous feeling inside his heart.
Shao Qun asked him to keep his eye on Changhong Corporation’s stock, so he must know something even if he was reluctant to tell him…
Did Luo Yi have anything to do with this? What would happen to him?
With a sense of self-hatred, Wen Xiaohui couldn’t help but feel a little concerned.
————————————–
After a busy week, Wen Xiaohui finally fitted all the furniture and appliances. A few of the soft furnishings were gradually put in place. He and his mum moved back in.
He still wasn’t sure what to do with Yaya’s house, so he decided to leave it. After he moved back, he remembered something depressing – the apartment was still under Luo Yi’s name. He needed to find a way to change the title back before his mum found out.
He phoned Cao Hai to discuss. Cao Hai told him that all the legal documents were at Luo Yi’s house and he would ask him about it tomorrow.
Wen Xiaohui recalled how there was no topic of conversation that he and Luo Yi couldn’t talk about in the past, but now he had to ask Mr Cao to pass on his message to get something done. His heart felt so distressed that he couldn’t straighten his back. He felt much better than he did at the beginning, because his brain wasn’t completely filled with Luo Yi, but his whole body felt hollow whenever he thought of him. However, someday, his mind will remain calm when he thinks of Luo Yi.
Footnotes:
In this paragraph, incidences of bank/financial institution failures in the US are exaggerated. Capitalist countries can still use regulation, supervision, and government intervention to prevent bank failures. The author, Shui Qian Cheng, graduated with a major in International Business Administration at Rotterdam School of Management, so I’m sure Li Shuo’s observations are just for dramatic effect.
The Chinese text means netizens (网民), but I’m sure this is a typo for investors as this term was used in a later paragraph (股民).
Chapter 56.2
Trigger warnings: Domestic abuse, child abuse, animal cruelty
Two days later, he got a call from Luo Yi, he recognised the number from a quick glance despite not having Luo Yi saved as a contact on this phone.
Hesitating until the ringing stopped for the first time, he pressed the answer key when it rang for the second time.
“Xiaohui-ge.” Luo Yi’s hoarse and solemn voice came from the other end of the line.
Wen Xiaohui knitted his brows. That voice… It sounded as though he was sick. Wen Xiaohui stopped himself from asking further and he said coldly, “What’s the matter?”
“You wanted to transfer the title.”
“Mn.”
“The legal documents are at my house. Come over for them.”
“Pass them to Cao Hai and I’ll get them from him.”
“Why go to all that trouble? Come over to pick them up.”
“I need to go to Cao Hai’s anyway to transfer the title.”
“No, I’ll go personally.”
“You…”
“I really want to see you…” Luo Yi’s voice sounded weak. “I want to see you now.”
Wen Xiaohui immediately hung up. His first reaction was to smash the mobile phone, but on second thoughts, this was his own phone. Why would he make life hard for himself? He cursed Luo Yi a bit, feeling so angry that his heart and lungs were about to explode.
Luo Yi continued to call him; his phone rang non-stop as if it would continue to ring until Wen Xiaohui picked up.
Wen Xiaohui thought about the apartment before deciding to take the call anyway. “If you keep talking bullshit, I’ll never answer your calls again.”
“Please come over to mine and bring me some medicine if it’s not too inconvenient.”
Wen Xiaohui replied firmly and decisively1, “I’m not going. You can drop dead from your illness.”
“If you don’t come over, I won’t give you the apartment.”
“Fuck you, Luo Yi!” Wen Xiaohui roared, “What the hell do you want?!”
“I want to see you.”
“What will it achieve, you idiot?!”
“I just want to see you.” Luo Yi gasped, “Your scent still lingers throughout the house; it’s painful.”
Wen Xiaohui’s eyes felt warm and his heart began to clench. “Luo Yi, are you a fucking dog? Do you feel like provoking me? Do you enjoy seeing me suffer or are you so idle that you suddenly thought of me? Go. To. Hell!”
The other end of the line fell silent. Luo Yi’s breathing became more frantic and he said quietly, “I only want to see you, come see me. If you don’t come over today, I won’t give you the apartment.”
“Luo Yi!” Wen Xiaohui was so angry that the veins on his forehead popped out.
After hanging up, Wen Xiaohui viciously kicked the bin on the side of the road a few times, wishing it was Luo Yi’s head instead.
What was Luo Yi trying to do? Even though Luo Yi never had feelings for him and Wen Xiaohui no longer had any value to exploit, he must still remember the pleasurable times they had in bed. Wen Xiaohui couldn’t think of anything apart from this possibility. Why did he fall in love with someone like this in the first place? Was it because he was blind or was it because Luo Yi was too accomplished at acting?
After finishing work, he went home and found his mum choosing curtains from a brochure.
“Mum, haven’t we put up curtains already?”
“I’m helping Ian choose – he wants to change some of his curtains. The shop that installed our curtains is offering a discount.” Feng Yuehua stood up, touching the curtains in the living room as she said with a smile, “The quality is excellent, but it’s cheap as well. Look how beautiful our apartment is after the renovations. It feels a lot bigger than before. It must be the newest-looking in the whole block.”
“Of course. These are all old apartments, so it’s impressive how it looks so good after the renovations.”
“To be honest, this apartment is so beautiful, I don’t want to move to a bigger house. All our neighbours that we’ve known for ages are here and it’s convenient. I’m used to living here.”
“I still want to live in a mansion when I make lots of money.”
“Forget it, housing is so expensive in the capital. What’s the point of buying? It’s fine as long as you have somewhere to live. Our quality of living will be much better if we don’t buy a house. It’s not worth it when you think about it.” Feng Yuehua smiled as she said, “My heart feels at ease having an apartment of my own.”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart clenched. If his mum found out that the house wasn’t under his name…
He hesitated for most of the night. Finally, he decided to go to the place that he thought he would never return to.
————————————–
When he arrived at the neighbourhood, the security guard came out acting surprised. “Oh, how come you haven’t visited in such a long time? Did you go abroad to study again?”
Wen Xiaohui smiled, but he didn’t say anything.
With heavy footsteps, he arrived in front of Luo Yi’s house. The whole house was pitch-black; none of the lights were on. He felt around in his pocket and took out the key. In spite of everything, he still kept the key to Luo Yi’s house.
He went inside after opening the door, turning on the light. The glow from the huge crystal chandelier lit up the living room as if it was daytime. He looked around him and disordered, but familiar memories assaulted his senses. In every inch of this house, scenes of him and Luo Yi frantically popped up – they were sweet, heartwarming, and happy. Perhaps it was because this house held too many of their happy memories or perhaps he was trying so hard to forget to the extent that he couldn’t piece together a complete image of the night they finally broke up.
He leant against the doorway, feeling his legs weaken. He drew a deep breath and shouted, “Luo Yi!”
After shouting a couple of times, only the echoing of his own voice could be heard in the room.
He hesitated briefly before he went upstairs. He opened the door of the bedroom to find a dark figure lying on the bed. When he turned on the lights, Luo Yi lifted his hand up to shield his eyes and grunted quietly with a strong nasal tone.
Wen Xiaohui looked at Luo Yi’s reddened skin caused by fever, then hid his clenched fist.
Luo Yi was very healthy – he’d only had two colds in the space of just over three years – once in the US and now. Luo Yi loathed hospitals and if Wen Xiaohui didn’t come over, maybe Luo Yi would have continued to lie there, either burning to death from the fever or until he got better by himself.
“Xiaohui-ge.” Luo Yi supported himself to sit up slightly as he used his watery eyes to stare at Wen Xiaohui. “You’re here.”
Without any expression, Wen Xiaohui asked, “Where are the title deeds?”
“I want water.” Luo Yi coughed a couple of times.
Looking down on him at the side of the bed, Wen Xiaohui saw Luo Yi eyes pleading with him like someone on their deathbed. He felt a little satisfied as he turned around to pour a cup of water. Afterwards, he got some fever-reducing medicine from the cupboard and placed them on the bedside cabinet.
Luo Yi exerted all his strength to prop himself up and he took the medicine with water.
Wen Xiaohui asked, “Where are the title deeds?”
Luo Yi lay back down on the bed, gasping for breath a few times before he opened his eyes to stare at Wen Xiaohui. “Suddenly, I can’t remember.”
Wen Xiaohui wished that he could rush over and choke Luo Yi to death. He asked angrily, “Where are the title deeds?!”
“How come you haven’t gained weight yet? You seem too skinny every time I hug you. You must feel even skinnier if I hug you now.”
Wen Xiaohui grabbed a pillow and threw it at Luo Yi. “Fuck you! Can’t you speak like a human being? Where are the title deeds?!”
Luo Yi pushed the pillow out of the way and he got out of bed. Using his moistened eyes, he gave Wen Xiaohui a profound look. “Xiaohui-ge, I’m sorry for lying to you. I hated you at the beginning. We were complete strangers, but Mum spoke about you a lot and she even left all the money to you. I couldn’t take it, I wanted to get it back. Afterwards, I… But I regretted early on because you treated me so well, trusting me unconditionally. There were a few times that I wanted to come clean, but I began to feel scared the longer I left it. Xiaohui-ge, can you forgive me?”
Wen Xiaohui started to tremble. Luo Yi’s watery eyes and reddened nose made it seem as though he’d been crying. He looked so pitiful. As pitiful as he usually did, every time he apologised to Wen Xiaohui. Wen Xiaohui almost believed him for a split second.
He became so angry that he ended up laughing. “Your acting’s truly amazing. Sometimes, I feel like you’ve fooled me for three years because my low IQ is to blame, but it’s not. You’re just too good at acting. Whenever I uncovered your abnormal behaviour behind my back, you’d pretend to be pitiful and mention your childhood misfortunes or how important I was to you. My heart would immediately ache. That’s the reason I’m an idiot who has been fooled into running around in circles by you. You’d still be lying to me if President Chang hadn’t exposed you. Luo Yi, how could there be someone as terrifying as you in this world? You still manage to challenge my bottom line every time I think I’ve figured you out.”
Luo Yi stared at Wen Xiaohui in silence. His eyes were filled with moisture as if he would cry any second.
Wen Xiaohui’s breathing was momentarily disrupted.
“In your eyes, I’m also a monster.” The corners of Luo Yi’s mouth twitched slightly. “Mum called me that before when I was eight years old. That year, I tried to burn that person to death.”
Wen Xiaohui stared right at him. Although he’d heard about this incident from his mum, his heart still trembled when he heard Luo Yi admitting it himself. He couldn’t stop himself from asking, “Why?”
“Because I was scared of him.” Luo Yi coughed a couple of times before he whispered, “Mum thought I wanted to kill him because I hated him, but hating him was only one of the reasons. The most important reason was that I was scared of him – he was a threat to my life. I wanted to kill him to protect myself and Mum.”
“W-What did he do?”
“He used to beat and drug her. He once pointed a gun to her head and mine…” Luo Yi’s damp eyelashes began to tremble slightly. “He has a strong compulsion to control – he couldn’t stand the thought of Mum leaving him. Mum became more scared of him when he behaved like this. From an early age, I saw how he used to abuse Mum. I thought we’d die in his hands one day, so I wanted to kill him before that happened.”
Wen Xiaohui’s body started to tremble a little. Luo Yi was very calm when he recounted his story and the only fluctuation to his mood was possibly due to his fever. After Wen Xiaohui heard these words, he felt even more apprehensive towards Luo Yi. A child who was only a few years old normally wouldn’t even know what hatred was, but he came up with the idea to murder someone to protect himself. His innate character was even more terrifying than the thought of someone committing murder out of hatred, because the latter was mainly driven by an emotional reaction whilst the former felt more calm and cold-blooded.
“Do you know how he used to teach me when I was young?” Luo Yi smiled coldly, “My nanny was mute and Mum was often away from home. There wasn’t anyone who could speak to me, so I kept a parrot as a pet. It was an especially beautiful parrot. I spent over a year teaching it how to talk and eventually, it learned how to say ‘hello’ and it would call me by my name.” Luo Yi’s gaze wandered as if he had sunk into a sea of memories. “Afterwards, he found out. The next day, a plate of stewed parrot appeared on the dining table. He smiled as he watched me eat all of it and then he told me. I vomited for three days and my fever wouldn’t break. Since then, I don’t catch colds easily, but I always develop a fever if I have a cold.”
Wen Xiaohui’s lips quivered. He stared at Luo Yi with a complicated look in his eyes.
“Are you curious why he did it? It’s the same reason why he gave me the birthday present2. He said that his son ought to preserve his ruthlessness, he was very successful in his endeavours.”
Wen Xiaohui felt intimidated by the darkness released from Luo Yi’s body, unwittingly taking a step back.
“Are you scared of me too?” Luo Yi’s dewy eyes were so beautiful that they resembled the limpid waters of autumn3, but the words that came out of him were as chilling as the dead of winter. “My first attempt was when I was seven years old. I poured bleach into his coffee, but Mum found out because the smell was too strong. Afterwards, I tried to buy some rat poison – no one wanted to sell it to a child. I saw in films that there are some foods that clash and become toxic if you eat them at the same time. I tried it, but it’s all a lie.” Luo Yi revealed a chilling smile. “I was still too young at that stage, so I didn’t manage to succeed. I actually had countless opportunities because he was never on his guard against me.”
“What about the arson?” Wen Xiaohui swallowed. He didn’t know why he asked the question because his instincts told him that he shouldn’t try to find out since it had nothing to do with him.
“I read loads of books and used different channels to acquire knowledge, so I could kill him. After considering different factors, I discovered I might be able to set the engine on fire to make the car spontaneously combust. I gave him some water laced with sleeping pills to drink, then tricked him to get into the car. But I was still too young – my plans weren’t adequate enough. After the engine was set on fire, the controls for the automatic locking system malfunctioned and I was also trapped in the car.”
“That’s why your back…”
A wry smile appeared on Luo Yi’s face. “Originally, I could have succeeded in killing him because he was unconscious. However, Mum came home unexpectedly. When she saw me, I told her not to worry about me, but she still went to get help… It was so stupid, that was the best opportunity and she wasted it. She became scared of me after that.”
Wen Xiaohui clenched his fists. “She’s your mother, how could she not save you?” That bastard Luo Yi, did he even know that Yaya once knelt in front of Wen Xiaohui’s father for his sake?
“She never welcomed my birth nor has she fulfilled the responsibilities of a mother. Why did she go against her will for the sake of conventional ethical constraints? She should have been looking forward to my death alongside that person, so that she could be free. I couldn’t kill that person because of her and he’s been on his guard ever since. I never found another opportunity.”
“You’re raving mad – how could you think that? My sister didn’t leave the inheritance to you because she was worried you would take revenge. It was all for your own good!”
“I don’t need her uneducated IQ to determine what’s good for me. She never treated me well when she was still alive, so why waste any effort once she’s dead? I just know that I won’t be able to breathe properly as long as that person is alive.”
Wen Xiaohui said furiously, “Grab a bag of explosives and take him down with you! Why are you still bullshitting to me? Are you hoping that I’ll take pity on you or approve of your actions?”
Luo Yi’s expression was tinged with a hint of melancholy. “No, I just wanted you to know the real me and not the pretend Luo Yi of the past.” He fixed his gaze on Wen Xiaohui. “Are you willing to get to know the real me? I won’t lie to you, I won’t hurt you again.”
Wen Xiaohui stared at him with an expression filled with wariness. His fists relaxed themselves and clenched repeatedly in response to Luo Yi’s explanation. He couldn’t shake off the image of a lonely, helpless, and desperate child in his head. He forced himself to dispel such useless feelings, gritting his teeth to say: “I don’t want to. I don’t trust you.”
Luo Yi’s eyes glistened until a few teardrops rolled down his face. “You’re the only person who cared about me and kept me company, but I let you down. Maybe I’ve already lost the ability to live like a normal person. I’ll drag him to hell with me.”
Wen Xiaohui replied sternly, “My sister did so much for you, it’s not so you can act like a moth to a flame.”
“So what? It might be possible for me to get rid of him.” Luo Yi’s eyes were bright as he gazed at Wen Xiaohui. “Do you not want me to avenge Mum?”
Wen Xiaohui felt a tightening in his heart as he asked the question that he’d always wanted but felt too afraid to ask. “How did my sister actually die?”
“She was forced to commit suicide by that person. Mum had some evidence that could bring him down. He used me and your whole family to blackmail her and that’s why she committed suicide. She wanted to be rid of him forever.”
“Me. Our…” Wen Xiaohui felt a sharp pain in his head. President Chang used them to blackmail Yaya?
“That’s right, I’ve been preparing to get rid of him ever since I was a child. I won’t breathe in the air in the same area as him, I can feel the threat of death. That’s why he either needs to go to prison or go to hell.” The unswerving determination in Luo Yi’s gaze made others tremble with fear.
Wen Xiaohui drew a deep breath. Of course he wanted the person responsible for his sister’s death to go to hell, but there was nothing that he could do. Would it be possible for Luo Yi to defeat that person or would he follow in his mother’s footsteps? When this came to mind, a wave of fear passed directly through the top of his head.
Would Luo Yi involve him for the sake of revenge?!
Tenderness shone through Luo Yi’s gaze towards Wen Xiaohui. “Xiaohui-ge, if I manage to succeed one day, would we be able to start over again? I want you to get to know the real me and maybe someday, you will fall in love with the real me.”
Footnotes:
斩钉截铁, literally to chop the nail and slice the iron (idiom), is used to describe words or actions which are firm and decisive, i.e. without hesitation. The phrase originates from the description of someone practising Buddhism in a book by a Northern Song dynasty Buddhist monk and author.
Reminder: For Luo Yi’s 16th birthday, he received a gun from his dad (Chapter 23)
This Chinese phrase is often used in literature to describe eyes (usually female) that look clear and beautiful.
