Additional Inheritance - Chap 6
Chapter 6
Wen Xiaohui came out wearing Luo Yi’s pyjamas after his shower. Luo Yi had yet to return from his shower in Luo Yaya’s room, but Wen Xiaohui made himself at home and flung himself onto Luo Yi’s super king size bed. The firmness of the mattress was perfect and it was very comfortable.
He stretched his waist, rotated his hips twice and started cycling with his legs in the air.
When Luo Yi returned to the room, he saw Wen Xiaohui stretching his pair of long, slender and pale legs while exercising. The generous-fitting shorts had rolled up to his thighs due to his movements and the faint outline of his underwear was visible.
Luo Yi was slightly startled and his jaw tensed.
Wen Xiaohui panted and said, “Don’t talk to me now.”
Luo Yi smiled. “You were the one who spoke to me first.” After speaking, he leaned against the door frame and watched Wen Xiaohui pedalling his legs as if there was no one watching. His legs resembled rabbits hopping chaotically, compelling people to suppress them.
After Wen Xiaohui completed these three movements, he gasped for breath and put his legs down. He collapsed on the bed, spreading his arms and legs out. “I’m so exhausted.”
“Why are you doing this?”
“I want to tone my legs and hips.”
Luo Yi said, “You need to slow down for the best results. You’re pedalling too fast and your breathing is all over the place. You need to work your muscles more.”
Wen Xiaohui widened his eyes. “Really?”
“Yes, if you want to exercise a specific part of your body, you’re better off finding a professional fitness coach to take some courses. You can start again after you’ve built up a basic foundation.”
Wen Xiaohui pouted. “Private lessons are too expensive, how could I afford them?”
“You can use my living expenses as spending money.”
Wen Xiaohui’s eyes lit up. “Huh? No, I can’t do that.”
Luo Yi faintly smiled. “It’s fine.”
“Then, what will you live on?”
“I’ll still have my bank deposits, stock market investments and funds.”
In Wen Xiaohui’s eyes, Luo Yi had already become a shining angel. He said coyly, “I can’t accept…”
“It’s fine. Anyway, the money is at your disposal, you can pretend that it’s your salary.”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart was bursting with joy. “Okay then, thanks. Don’t worry, I’ll buy you some nice things. Oh yeah, come find me at Juxing some time and I’ll trim your hair.”
Luo Yi touched his hair. “But it’s not long?”
“It’s not long, but the style isn’t great. I’ll change your hairstyle and I guarantee that you’ll look even more handsome. You’ll have girls falling at your feet.”
Luo Yi chuckled, “Okay.”
Wen Xiaohui winked at him and said, “Hey, do you have a girlfriend?”
Luo Yi shook his head. “I haven’t.”
“Are you telling the truth? There must be loads of girls after you.”
“Fortunately, I don’t have enough time to date.”
Wen Xiaohui rolled his eyes. “And you have time for this stuff?” He extended his finger and pointed to the hideous mess in the room.
“They’re all really interesting.”
“So you’ve never been with anyone before?”
Luo Yi shook his head, looking innocent and confused.
Wen Xiaohui revealed an expression of disbelief, he got up and said, “Tell me about yourself. You’re so handsome and rich, and you don’t even have the pressure of university entrance exams. You spend loads of time studying poisons and Muay Thai – aren’t you just wasting your youth? Young people should date.”
Luo Yi responded, “What about you? Do you have a boyfriend?”
Wen Xiaohui became agitated. “Me…? How did you know that I’m…”
Luo Yi smiled without saying a word.
Wen Xiaohui scratched his hair. “Oh! You’ve seen my blog.” He squinted at Luo Yi hesitatingly. “Could you accept that I’m…?”
Luo Yi shrugged. “Why would I be bothered by that? You’re free to choose.”
Wen Xiaohui breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s great. I don’t actually care what others say. Even my mum doesn’t try to control me. Who gives a damn about others1?”
“That’s right.” Luo Yi asked, “Do you have a boyfriend?”
“I’m still single at the moment.” Wen Xiaohui recalled something and pouted. “I had a boyfriend last year – my first love. He was tall, handsome and a sweet-talker. A few years older than me. After only half a month, I found out he was two-timing1 bastard. He already had a steady girlfriend, but he was still messing around. Damn it! I must have been blind – how did I fall for such a scumbag? I was so angry.” Wen Xiaohui was furious as he remembered his bad experience.
The corners of Luo Yi’s mouth were slightly upturned. “That’s so absurd.”
“Not just that, he’s a bastard. I told his girlfriend after I found out, and then I beat him up a bit. I even keyed his car,” said Wen Xiaohui. He started laughing. “I used an awl and drew several tortoises6 on his car. I deflated all four tyres and the headlights were also smashed by me. Hahaha! He looked unwell when he found out. He deserved it.”
Luo Yi said in agreement, “Well deserved.”
“I let him off too easily.” Wen Xiaohui snorted, “I didn’t dare tell my mum, she wouldn’t let me date before graduating from secondary school. She wouldn’t let him off if she found out, but I’d be screwed too.”
“You need to be more cautious when meeting people in future.”
Wen Xiaohui sighed, “That’s easy to say, but some people intentionally pretend to be nice. How can you tell? I only realised how innocent school is after I started working.” He lay down on the bed and he looked a little bit lonely. Although he wasn’t really hurt by this so-called first dating experience, it really disgusted him and it was from this point that he started to be more guarded.
Luo Yi said, “In future, if you want to date someone, show them to me. At least you’ll have one more person to offer you advice.”
Wen Xiaohui laughed, “Okay, since you’re so smart, maybe you really can distinguish between good and bad people.”
Luo Yi smiled. “How do you define a bad person?”
Wen Xiaohui frowned and said, “A bad person? Criminals, those with no morals, scammers, people with violent tendencies…”
“These kinds of bad people are easy to distinguish.”
Wen Xiaohui blinked; his attention was unconsciously captured by Luo Yi. “Then what kind of bad people aren’t easy to distinguish?”
Luo Yi stared into his eyes and his voice was a little quiet. With a shadow of a smile, he said, “Those who do bad things when their interests are endangered.”
Wen Xiaohui inexplicably felt a chill rising up from his nape, but he thought he’d imagined it. While rubbing his neck, he thought about what Luo Yi had said and he felt he’d only partially understood.
Luo Yi smiled cheerfully. “Anyway, you should be more careful in future and don’t trust others so easily.”
Wen Xiaohui nodded, “Of course, I’ve matured a lot now.”
Luo Yi pulled back the quilt and got in. “Go to sleep, I have school tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Luo Yi switched off the light. Wen Xiaohui yawned and closed his eyes.
After a while, Luo Yi suddenly asked in the dark, “Xiaohui-ge, what kind of men do you like?”
Wen Xiaohui laughed out loud and said, “I like tall, muscular men who are also mature. It’d be even better if they’re rich.”
Luo Yi chuckled twice. “You’ll find one.”
“Of course. However, I don’t have time to date, I’m so busy in Juxing. I need to work hard and then I’ll have money and spare time in the future. Dating now would be a waste of time. Whatever, just let nature take its course.”
“Okay. Xiaohui-ge, goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Luo Yi opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. His pupils looked especially bright in the darkness.
It was already dawn by the time he woke up, Wen Xiaohui opened his sleepy eyes and a few seconds later, he realised that he was not at home, but at Luo Yi’s house. He thought about how this was the first time that he’d slept over at a stranger’s house and unexpectedly, it wasn’t his boyfriend. Wen Xiaohui wanted to laugh; perhaps the bond of familial love could really transcend blood ties. This was obviously the first time that he’d met Luo Yi, but there was no estrangement at all. Although he didn’t permit Luo Yi to call him uncle, he still treated him like his nephew.
Luo Yi pushed open the door, just in time to see him climbing out of bed. “You’re up? Great! Come downstairs for breakfast.” Luo Yi wore a sweatshirt on his upper body, with track compression shorts on his lower half. They were black and the skin-tight, the crotch area had a significant bulge, which could lead to people having inappropriate thoughts. The muscle lines extending from the thigh to the calf were distinct, and his long legs were absolutely stunning.
Wen Xiaohui gulped, although he wasn’t interested in boys, it didn’t mean that he couldn’t appreciate their beauty. Moreover, Luo Yi’s figure didn’t look like a teenager; besides having a slim body, he was very well developed.
Wen Xiaohui tried to disguise his thoughts by rubbing his eyes. “You’re up really early. I’ll brush my teeth first and then go downstairs.”
“Okay. Hurry up, otherwise the congee4 will cool down.”
After Wen Xiaohui finished washing up, he went downstairs. Luo Yi was already sitting at the dining table, drinking milk and reading a newspaper while waiting for him.
Wen Xiaohui scratched his hair. “How come you don’t have anything that I can use to style my hair? It’s a bit messy.”
Luo Yi laughed and said, “There might be something in my mum’s room. You can go check it out.”
“…Forget it.” Wen Xiaohui sat down at the table, and in front of him was a bowl of pumpkin porridge, a fried egg, two sandwiches plus four side dishes, milk, coffee and cool boiled water, arranged in that order. The presentation of the food was elaborate and the food looked very appetising. “Wow, breakfast looks amazing.”
Luo Yi put down the newspaper. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so you need to eat well.”
“My mum’s awful at cooking, we basically eat leftovers for breakfast.” Wen Xiaohui shrugged. “Unfortunately, I’m lazy. I can’t be bothered to cook for myself even though the food is terrible.”
Luo Yi winked. “Your studio is close to mine. Why don’t you come over and I’ll cook for you?”
Wen Xiaohui thought about how the distance from the studio to his home was more than three times farther compared with Luo Yi’s, it was basically the same as travelling across half of the capital. He was immediately tempted by Luo Yi’s proposal, since it was very tiring to travel to and from work every day and it could prevent his mum from meddling with his life.
“It’s actually a little lonely to live by myself in such a large house.” Luo Yi looked around and sighed softly. “Sometimes, it’s really quiet and you can’t even hear a single sound in the house. Once you arrived, you livened it up a lot.”
Wen Xiaohui suddenly felt distressed for Luo Yi. “Don’t worry, since I’ve decided to take care of you, I won’t let my sister down. I’ll come to see you often.”
Luo Yi gently stirred the strong coffee with a teaspoon. “It’d be nice if you could move in.”
Wen Xiaohui scratched his hair. “Actually…it’s a really convenient location, but I’m a little worried about my mum. Do you know that my dad passed away a few years ago?”
“I heard my mum mention it.”
“Hmm, although my mum appears to be very spirited, she’s actually quite dependent on me. I can’t leave her alone at home all the time. However, I’ll come and stay over occasionally. I’ll go back and discuss it with my mum because for the past six months, the commute to and from the studio has been exhausting. It’s so far that it takes around an hour by subway.”
Luo Yi laughed, “I look forward to your good news.”
Footnotes:
算老几, this phrase is slang which means who the heck are you/what status do you have? It’s not particularly polite.
脚踏两条船, literally means someone who has a foot on each boat i.e. two-timing (idiom).
王八, this term is often used to call someone a bastard, which is why Wen Xiaohui chiselled them onto his ex’s car.
This is a type of savoury rice porridge (made with roughly 10 parts water to 1 part rice) that’s typically eaten for breakfast with Chinese fried doughnuts known as youtiao.
