Additional Inheritance - Chap 79
Chapter 79
Luo Yi looked a few years younger when Wen Xiaohui was done trimming his hair. Since he was less than 20 years old, he wouldn’t have been able to repress his flourishing student aura if he wasn’t dressed so impeccably.
Wen Xiaohui glanced at Luo Yi in the mirror, then himself. When they first met, he was one year younger than Luo Yi’s current age, and five years had passed in the blink of an eye. Time had flown by without a chance to look back.
Luo Yi grabbed Wen Xiaohui’s hand all of a sudden. He smiled slightly and said, “It’s been five years. It has gone by so quickly.”
“Yeah, so quick.” Wen Xiaohui mumbled.
“Your haircuts are the best.”
Wen Xiaohui lowered his eyes, wanting to free his hand.
Luo Yi brought Wen Xiaohui’s hand to his lips and kissed it. “Let’s go home.”
Wen Xiaohui packed his stuff away, said goodbye to the staff, and left without looking back.
He thought of the five years he’d spent working at his dearest Juxing Studios – he didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye. Under similar circumstances, it was inevitable that it would stir up his emotions.
Luo Yi picked up the heavy suitcase with ease and wrapped his other arm around Wen Xiaohui’s shoulder. “I know you like this job. When we get back to Beijing, you could go back to Juxing or you could open your own studio. Nothing has to change.”
Everything has long since changed. Wen Xiaohui thought to himself.
Straight after getting back into the car, Wen Xiaohui’s mobile began to ring, and he picked it up to check. He saw it was Li Shuo calling, and he had a feeling he knew what Li Shuo was going to say, but he was eager to find out how Li Chengxiu was getting on. Hesitating briefly, he then decided to answer.
“Xiaohui.” Li Shuo’s voice sounded irascible and anxious. “Did Luo Yi find you?”
Wen Xiaohui acted relaxed and replied, “Ah, yeah. Don’t worry, I’m okay.”
“Where are you now? I’ll come find you.”
Wen Xiaohui smiled as he said, “I’m at the studio. Li-dage, you should worry about your own matters first. I’m fine. I think…” He looked over at Luo Yi quickly, gritting his teeth, “there were some misunderstandings between us, but we’re talking now. I was too childish and made a big deal out of nothing. I caused you all a lot of trouble. I’m fine now. I’ll be going back to Beijing soon. I’ll see you when I’m free.”
Li Shuo questioned, “Are you saying this willingly?”
“Of course! Li-dage, our issues are somewhat complicated, but they’re not impossible to resolve. It’s better to tackle the issues than continuing to avoid them. I’m really fine.” Wen Xiaohui said softly, “You have someone else you need to protect, you should go find him.”
Li Shuo was momentarily silent. “I’ll find Chengxiu first and contact you in a few days’ time.”
“Okay, take care.”
After he hung up, Luo Yi said, “You spoke well.”
Wen Xiaohui replied coldly, “I didn’t do it for you.”
Luo Yi’s heart throbbed as he saw Wen Xiaohui’s smile disappear from his face in an instant. He stared at Wen Xiaohui’s taut side profile and felt an urge to sweep him into his embrace. If he did that, would he be able to possess Wen Xiaohui entirely, never to part again?
——————————————
After they arrived home, Wen Xiaohui started to pack. There was also a load of other things to sort like the house and car, which he planned to hand to Luo Yi.
Luo Yi made him some tea and said gently, “We’re not going back yet.”
Wen Xiaohui froze. “We’re not going back?”
“Chang Xing has been sentenced – he’s been sentenced to 12 years and he’s planning to appeal. It’s too dangerous, so it’s better to stay here.”
Wen Xiaohui threw his clothes on the floor. “Did you come to seek refuge?”
“No, I only came to find you. You’re most important to me.”
Wen Xiaohui grinned mockingly without replying.
Luo Yi said solemnly, “I used to think my reason for living was to topple Chang Xing, but then you appeared. I’ve already said you’re my purpose in life.”
“Nothing to do with me.” Wen Xiaohui put the suitcase back to its original position and wanted to leave the room.
Luo Yi grabbed Wen Xiaohui’s arm, looking at him from above. “I’ll go to the US with you to see your mum.”
Wen Xiaohui glared at him, “Why the heck do you want to see my mum?”
“You still haven’t given her the jade jewellery set. I can give it to her myself.”
“How dare you!” Wen Xiaohui said harshly.
Luo Yi looked gentle in comparison to Wen Xiaohui’s anger. “Xiaohui-ge, there’s nothing I don’t dare to do. It’s a case of whether I want to or not.”
“You’re not allowed to show up in front of my mum!” Wen Xiaohui grabbed Luo Yi by the collar.
Luo Yi said calmly, “She knows about me and our relationship already. I also want her to know that I’ll take care of you for the rest of your life.”
“You’ll fucking infuriate my mum!”
“She’ll have to accept it sooner or later…”
Wen Xiaohui couldn’t restrain himself and ended up slapping Luo Yi in the face. His voice trembled as he said, “Luo Yi, are you ever going to think of someone other than yourself? Yeah, you’re outstanding and there isn’t anything you don’t dare to do, but not everyone is like you. Are you trying to hound me to death?”
Luo Yi stared at Wen Xiaohui without blinking. The rims of his eyes gradually reddened. He whispered, “I only want her to acknowledge our relationship.”
“It’s not a matter of whether people acknowledge it or not.”
Luo Yi lowered his head. “What should I do then?”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart ached as he glanced at Luo Yi. He turned to leave.
Luo Yi hugged him tightly as he sobbed, “What should I do then? Tell me what I should say or what I should do, so you’ll forgive me. Don’t make me leave – that’s the only thing I won’t do.” Luo Yi clearly had Wen Xiaohui confined in his arms, but he felt as though there were ten thousand crags and torrents separating them. He used to think that clever people would have a way of solving problems, so why did he feel so helpless when it came to this? The sand flowed out of his hand faster, the tighter he squeezed his fist. Seeing Wen Xiaohui in a daze every day, he no longer knew how to describe the suffering in his heart.
Wen Xiaohui closed his eyes. He suddenly felt a sharp pain in his heart, and it seemed as if his legs had sprouted roots – he was unable to move.
“I’m sorry, Xiaohui-ge. I’m sorry…” Luo Yi’s voice quivered as he added, “Tell me what I should do. I’m willing to do anything and I can give you anything at all.”
Wen Xiaohui opened his mouth and croaked, “…Let go.”
“Today… It’s been five years since I last saw mum.” Luo Yi said suddenly.
Wen Xiaohui’s heart trembled.
“It was the first time she celebrated Chinese New Year with me. She kept me company from Chinese New Year’s Eve until the seventh, then she left and disappeared for nearly a month. When I saw her again, she’d already…” Luo Yi tightened his arms as if it would merge Wen Xiaohui into his own body. “I… I actually have nothing. Everything of importance seems to disappear in the end. That’s why I can pledge all I have to take revenge on the person responsible for taking everything away from me. I never thought there would be someone like you, and I didn’t realise you’d become so important to me. You’re much more important than the goal I was determined to achieve, but I realised too late…”
Wen Xiaohui’s complexion became as pale as a sheet as Luo Yaya appeared in front of him. In reality, he shouldn’t have remembered her appearance after so many years, but Luo Yi had inherited her features, engraving it into his memories for the rest of his life. Therefore, he remembered face very clearly, in the same way that he would never forget Luo Yi’s face.
It was indeed a flawless and stunning face. What a shame that one of them was destined to have her life cut short and the other was destined to be fickle in love.
Every one of Luo Yi’s words pierced Wen Xiaohui’s heart like a knife, as something resembling blood, possibly his vitality, seemed to drain from his body. His limbs weakened and his brain gradually went blank. When he felt flustered, he instinctively chose not to think.
He couldn’t afford to be bamboozled by Luo Yi again. The reason for falling so hard that he nearly couldn’t get back up was because he trusted this person, and it wasn’t just once. He couldn’t allow himself to get sucked into such a vortex.
Shaking his head, he mumbled, “Luo Yi, you can stop pretending to be pitiful. I don’t believe you. I won’t believe anything you say.”
Luo Yi closed his eyes and furrowed his brows. Pain was clearly etched on his face as he drew in a deep breath. “We’re not going to the US anymore. I can stay away from her for the time being, but I hope that one day we’ll be able to stand openly in front of her. I’ll treat her as if she’s my own mother.”
Wen Xiaohui heaved a sigh of relief. He gradually pried Luo Yi’s hand off himself and broke away from his grasp.
Luo Yi watched the back of Wen Xiaohui’s body while leaning against the doorframe feeling exhausted. His mind was in turmoil. He stared at the ceiling as his vision gradually went from bleary to sharp focus. His complicated and dark eyes gleamed with determination.
—————————————-
In the space of a few days, Wen Xiaohui reverted back to the state he was in when he first arrived in Pengcheng – a lifeless and muddled degenerate. The only difference was that he had Luo Yi attending to his needs, so he wouldn’t mix up night and day or skip meals. By Luo Yi’s side, he seemed to have lost his ability to smile. It was as if he was living in the den of a wolf – his heartstrings were always taut.
Every day, Luo Yi wanted to talk more to him, cook him a variety of tasty food, hold him in his arms and kiss him. Wen Xiaohui didn’t have much of a reaction. Seeing this, Luo Yi felt so upset that he didn’t know what to do.
One day, the doorbell rang suddenly.
Wen Xiaohui didn’t react when he heard the doorbell, because it was ornamental, and barely anyone rang it except for property management and delivery men.
Luo Yi drew closer and kissed him. “Open the door and take a look.”
Wen Xiaohui glanced at him and he immediately felt anxious. “What did you do?”
Luo Yi sighed and replied, “I didn’t do anything.”
Full of doubt, Wen Xiaohui walked over and opened the door. The person at the door made him forget to breathe.
“Xiaohui!” Luo Rui appeared exhausted from travelling. His eyes reddened the instant he saw Wen Xiaohui and he threw himself on him, hugging him tightly.
Wen Xiaohui tilted backwards, narrowing avoiding being knocked to the ground. He was in a daze for a couple of seconds as he struggled to believe that the friend he missed the most was actually in his arms. “Luo Rui?”
Luo Rui sobbed as he hugged Wen Xiaohui.
Wen Xiaohui felt upset and tears streamed down his face. He hugged Luo Rui tightly as a gush of warmth filled his frozen heart.
