Additional Inheritance - Chap 86
Chapter 86
After he took Feng Yuehua back, Wen Xiaohui received a text message from Luo Yi urging him to return home. He’d just remembered that a week had passed. He felt very ill at ease – Luo Yi would definitely be able to tell that something was wrong if he went back, but if he didn’t go back, Luo Yi could become suspicious in the best case scenario. Most likely, he’d run over and take him back home. He hesitated for a moment before replying to the text message, telling Luo Yi that he was going over to Luo Rui’s for food and that he’d be back later.
He needed some time to calm down. Also, he hadn’t had any of Luo Rui’s cakes in two years.
The bakery was about to close when he arrived at Luo Rui’s. Luo Rui seemed surprised to see him. “Didn’t you go shopping with Auntie?”
“I got tired of walking and drove her home.” Wen Xiaohui looked around inside the bakery – it hadn’t changed much from two years ago. The intense aroma of coffee and the sweet taste of cakes lingered in the air, creating an environment where stepping inside brought immediate relief and softened the heart. It was the same feeling that Luo Rui evoked in others.
“You haven’t tried my cooking in a long time. What would you like to eat? Would you like to try something new?”
Wen Xiaohui shook his head. He smiled and said, “I want to have my favourite strawberry cheesecake.”
Luo Rui smiled gently. “Take a seat and wait for me.”
Wen Xiaohui chose a seat by the window and sat down. It used to be his favourite seat. Back then, when Luo Yi finished his lectures, they used to have afternoon tea together and chat. Afterwards, Luo Yi would take him home on his bicycle. This was before they started dating, but it was sweet and beautiful. However, it was even more soul-destroying when beautiful things got destroyed.
Later, Luo Rui came over with a tray carrying an intricate-looking cake and fruit-flavoured tea.
Wen Xiaohui rubbed his hands. “Come here! I’m such a glutton!”
Luo Rui poured Wen Xiaohui’s tea for him, divided the cake into bite-sized pieces with a fork, and moved the plate in front of Wen Xiaohui. “Here you go. Are you satisfied?”
Wen Xiaohui pinched Luo Rui’s face. “Xiao Ma is still the best househusband.”
Luo Rui smiled slightly.
Wen Xiaohui immersed himself in the food. The aromatic, soft and rich cake dissolved instantly as it entered his mouth, saturating his entire palate with a splendid flavour. Cakes made by Luo Rui used quality ingredients, and they were fresh and tasty. It was no wonder that people queued every day to buy his cakes, and it was even harder to find a table at his bakery.
Luo Rui supported his chin, watching Wen Xiaohui silently.
Wen Xiaohui had eaten half of the cake when he glanced up and laughed. “What’s going on? You’re looking at me so affectionately, are you in love with me?”
Luo Rui sighed, “Two zeros aren’t destined to be together.”
Wen Xiaohui chuckled, “Stop copying me.”
“I’m always copying you. During my student days, I wished that I could be just like you.”
“I feel like stepping down from the altar.” Wen Xiaohui laughed as he shook his head. “I’m actually just a cowardly idiot.”
“I feel bad for you.”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart warmed. He picked up a piece of cake with his fork and put it in his mouth. “Baby, I didn’t want you to worry, but I couldn’t manage to do that.” Wen Xiaohui had already decided to secretly hire a few people to follow his mum and Luo Rui around the clock. He’d already lost the man he loved, he couldn’t bear to lose anyone else.
Luo Rui grabbed his hand, rubbing it gently. “I only want you to have a comfortable life.”
Wen Xiaohui smiled as he replied, “Hurry up and put yourself on the market, I won’t have to worry about you anymore.”
“I’ll try my best.” Luo Rui was momentarily stunned when he looked up; the originally warm look on his face immediately disappeared.
Wen Xiaohui glanced back and saw Luo Yi standing on the other side of the window wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and white trainers, supporting his bicycle with one hand. Luo Yi smiled slightly when he saw them and waved. His youthfulness was unparalleled.
Wen Xiaohui felt like he’d been struck in the chest. Time flies and in an instant, it seemed as though they’d gone back in time to three years ago. Wen Xiaohui and Luo Yi looked at each other through the window as if nothing had happened – he was still that Wen Xiaohui, and Luo Yi was still that Luo Yi. The images of the past and present overlapped, making him feel heartbroken.
Luo Rui was also shocked. How could anyone not feel sad seeing this scene from the past?
Luo Yi pushed the door open and walked in. He grinned, “Xiaohui-ge, let’s go home.”
Xiaohui-ge, let’s go home.
Immediately, Wen Xiaohui felt a sharp pain in his heart. He took a deep breath and said emotionlessly, “Why did you come here?”
“I wanted to pick you up.” Luo Yi replied without the slightest hesitation.
“I cycled here.”
“Put that over there.”
Luo Yi pointed to his bicycle. “It’s refreshingly cool at night. I’ll take you home, you haven’t ridden on my bicycle for a long time.”
Wen Xiaohui replied with a blank face. “Why would I ride a bike when I have a sports car? Also, it’s not appropriate since you’re a director.”
Luo Yi pulled him up to standing, and showed off his dazzling smile. “It’s environmentally-friendly because it’s low carbon.” He waved to Luo Rui. “We’re off now, see you soon.”
The two of them left. Luo Yi patted his rear seat. “This seat is only for you.”
Wen Xiaohui sized up Luo Yi and couldn’t help sneering, “Luo Yi, are you trying to stir up my nostalgic feelings by dressing like this and riding your bike?”
Luo Yi gave Wen Xiaohui a profound look. “I guess.”
“I long for the old days too, but the past is in the past. It’s not real, no matter how similar it is. Don’t you feel ridiculous doing this sort of thing?”
Luo Yi secretly tightened his grip on the handlebars and chuckled. Bleakness permeated the sound of his laughter. “Xiaohui-ge, I have an IQ of 167, but I don’t know how to make you happy. I really couldn’t tell you’d be so stubborn.”
Wen Xiaohui laughed too. “Isn’t it thanks to you? I used to be very easy to please, I’d be happy for days if you took me out for some yummy food. I believed every word of yours for no reason. Luo Yi, you helped me mature, I also helped you grow up. Isn’t it great?”
That’s not all you did.” Luo Yi mounted his bicycle. “Be good and sit down.”
Wen Xiaohui sat down in the rear seat. Whatever, it’s just a way to cool down. Pent-up frustration clogged his chest, accumulating a mass of stale air. It would be good if the evening breeze could dissipate some of it.
With the breeze on his face, Wen Xiaohui felt invigorated and closed his eyes. He didn’t want to think about anything at all. His only wish was to daydream to the gentle swaying of the bicycle, and in that dream, he would find the happiness buried in the depths of his memories.
The wind carried Luo Yi’s voice. “You also gave me the motivation to live.”
Wen Xiaohui opened his eyes, which seemed slightly moist.

When they arrived home, Wen Xiaohui was expecting them to make love, but Luo Yi didn’t try anything, and instead, he’d prepared a coffee table full of snacks and newly released computer games. The pillows on the sofa were brand new, and they appeared soft and cosy. Luo Yi looked at him in anticipation. “Let’s play some computer games.”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart quivered. Even if he referred to Luo Yi’s efforts as pointless, only he knew how each of these scenes dredged up memories of the past.
He felt angry over Luo Yi’s actions, but he couldn’t do anything.
Luo Yi pushed him down onto the sofa. “Let me teach you how to play the hottest zombie game. The graphics are awesome.”
Both of them sat on the sofa with their shoulders touching. Wen Xiaohui glanced over at Luo Yi – his handsome smile looked dazzling.
Recalling the person he met during the day, Wen Xiaohui really wasn’t in the mood to play games, and he hadn’t decided what he was going to do yet.
What would happen if he told Luo Yi about it and what would happen otherwise?
Maybe Luo Yi would come up with a solution if he told him, but there was also the chance that his mum and Luo Rui would be in danger. He wasn’t willing to risk it. If he didn’t tell Luo Yi… The task that Chang Xing wanted him to do could only be harmful to Luo Yi, and as a result, it came down to choosing a side.
This was a decision hated by all.
“Xiaohui-ge, what’s up? You seem a bit absentminded.” Luo Yi hugged him from the back, restricting the hand that held the gamepad. “The default keys used in this game aren’t the same as the others. I’ll help you change it if you’re not used to it.”
Wen Xiaohui shook his head. “It’s fine.”
Luo Yi’s arms tightened as he rested the tip of his nose on Wen Xiaohui’s cheek and inhaled the scent of his hair. “Before I met you, I never realised I wanted a life like this. Thank you.”
Wen Xiaohui found it difficult to resist Luo Yi’s neverending words of affection each day. Luo Yi never used to speak like this, and on the contrary, he used to tease him. How could it be so awkward?
Luo Yi put the gamepad down, standing up to bridal carry him. “You don’t have to play if you don’t want to. You must be tired, I’ll take you upstairs to sleep.”
Wen Xiaohui instinctively wrapped his arms around Luo Yi’s neck.
Luo Yi chuckled, “You used to be too lazy to walk upstairs and would make me piggyback or carry you. As long as I have the strength, I’m willing to carry you for the rest of my life.”
Wen Xiaohui lowered his head as he secretly nibbled his lip.
Despite Wen Xiaohui’s hatred towards Luo Yi and the desire to break free from his clutches, when it came to harming him, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He differed from Luo Yi; he couldn’t forget the kindness Luo Yaya had shown him.
Luo Yi didn’t notice Wen Xiaohui’s unusual behaviour at all, humming a tune as he carried Wen Xiaohui upstairs.
They showered separately, and afterwards, they lay quietly in each other’s embrace on the bed. Luo Yi recounted amusing stories from the past in a low and unhurried voice. He really did have an amazing memory and could recall all the details with ease, evoking vivid imagery. Luo Yi’s gentle voice, soft eyes gazing at him in the darkness, lips that kissed him sporadically, and the hand resting on his waist – all made him quiver, even without passionate lovemaking.

The next day, Luo Yi made breakfast for Wen Xiaohui and left to go to the office. Wen Xiaohui also returned to his own home.
Following days filled with anxious anticipation, Wen Xiaohui finally received a call from an unknown number. The moment he glimpsed the caller display, a sense of foreboding washed over him. As expected, when the call connected, he heard the bodyguard’s sombre voice. “Meet me at the cafe at number 46 XX Road at three in the afternoon. Come alone.” The call was cut off before Wen Xiaohui had the chance to say anything.
Wen Xiaohui took a deep breath and deliberated phoning the police for an hour. In the end, he decided not to call the police and tucked a knife into his pocket instead.
