Additional Inheritance - Chap 87
Chapter 87
Before he left the house, Wen Xiaohui, for some inexplicable reason, applied makeup and put on a whole new outfit, meticulously dolling himself up. He scoffed at himself. He was likely to appear on the news if he stabbed the bodyguard, so he might as well look beautiful, even if he was going to prison.
When his mum saw how he was so well-dressed, she thought he was going on a date and teased him for shamelessly showing off his handsome looks.
Wen Xiaohui went over and gave his mum a kiss, then with a smile on his face, he left.
As soon as he stepped out the door, his smile disappeared. He gripped the knife and set off in his car.

Arriving at the cafe, Wen Xiaohui found that the bodyguard was already waiting for him at a window seat. He put on a brave face and walked over.
The bodyguard glanced at him awkwardly and sneered, “You’re so well-dressed, do you think you’re here to strut your stuff on the catwalk?”
Perhaps he was terrified by what he was planning to do, but he wasn’t actually scared of the bodyguard when he came face-to-face with him. He sat down calmly and said in a cold voice, “Even if I’m destined to die today, I’m going to die with dignity. Tell me, what do you want me to do?”
“It’s not me who wants you to do something, it’s my boss.” The bodyguard sized him up. “You have more guts than I expected.”
Wen Xiaohui narrowed his eyes. “What do you mean?”
The bodyguard looked up. “That must be a knife in your pocket.”
Wen Xiaohui paled and subconsciously gripped the knife in his pocket even tighter.
The bodyguard sneered, “I bet you were only learning to walk when I was playing with knives. One of your shoulders is stiff, you occasionally put your hand inside your pocket, and you look so nervous and solemn. There’s no way you could go unnoticed by a professional. What? Do you want to stab me to death? If you go to prison with that pretty face, you won’t survive.”
Wen Xiaohui replied through clenched teeth, “You’re a fugitive, it’s self-defence.”
“That’s a good point, but unfortunately, you won’t have the chance.” The bodyguard said sinisterly, “If you dare move, I’ll scoop out your eyeballs on the spot. Plastic surgery won’t be able to help you.”
Bitter coldness filled Wen Xiaohui’s heart, and he couldn’t control the trembling of his shoulders.
The bodyguard gave him a chilling smile. “Put those thoughts of yours away and listen to what I have to say.”
Wen Xiaohui took a deep breath and looked at him with hostility.
“I need you to find a few things at Luo Yi’s house – a CD, an official seal, and a document wallet. They’ll be together.”
“Where should I look? How can I tell if they’re the items you’re after?”
“It’s up to you to decide where to look. The CD is very old, so there’s a chance that Luo Yi might have written over it, but he won’t have carved over the official seal. There’s no point in doing that. Same with the documents. Just look for a Changhong Consultancy Limited official seal and a full document wallet.
“What’s in the document wallet?”
“There should be a few classified government documents, receipts, itineraries, and some photos. As for the content, I’m not too sure either, but you’ll be able to tell that they’re the ones my boss wants, once you see them.”
Wen Xiaohui replied in a deep voice. “What are you planning to do once I get them?”
“They’re for the boss’s lawsuit.” The bodyguard added, “We’re very short on time, so you’ll have to give us what we need within a week.”
“A week? I don’t even know where they are.”
The bodyguard tapped his temple. “Think of a way. I can tell you those items were dug out of the walls of your apartment by Luo Yi.”
Wen Xiaohui’s eyes widened, Whaaat?”
“Luo Yaya kept them as a safeguard to preserve her own life, so she left them at your father’s apartment. I don’t care how you go about finding them.” The bodyguard stood up. “I’ll get in touch with you again.” He took several steps, then paused and turned suddenly to give Wen Xiaohui a smile. “Your friend’s bakery is doing very well.”
Wen Xiaohui’s expression appeared brutal momentarily. He gritted his teeth, wishing he could devour the person before him whole.
He sat in the cafe for a while after the bodyguard left. In reality, he had a good idea where Luo Yi might be keeping those items. People like Luo Yi shouldn’t be trusted, and at the same time, he didn’t trust anyone else. Such important items would be placed somewhere within his control, so they must be kept at home.
The villa was huge, he didn’t know where to look. If he found them… If he found them and gave them to Chang Xing, what would happen? Would Chang Xing be freed from prison? Luo Yi would be in danger if Chang Xing was released.
Wen Xiaohui tugged his hair and rubbed it forcefully, as he suffered from a splitting headache.
Sometimes, while in a daze, he felt as though his life was surreal. His core value was to lead a happy life, but he didn’t know when he started being plagued by endless worries that he couldn’t put into words. There wasn’t a single day – just one day– when his mind was truly at rest. It was all because of Luo Yi, and to this day, he still wouldn’t let him go. How could he not hate Luo Yi?
He deliberately recounted everything Luo Yi had done. Even though he’d never thought about revenge nor did he dare to do anything, he shouldn’t hesitate when the safety of his family conflicted with Luo Yi’s self interests.
Wen Xiaohui’s eyes shone with determination – he ought to send his mum back to the US as soon as possible, and it would be best for Luo Rui to go to Australia for a period of time as well. It didn’t matter if it was Chang Xing’s plan or Luo Yi’s rage, it was enough for him to suffer alone.
Once they finished talking, Wen Xiaohui went straight to Luo Yi’s villa.
———————————————-
Cao Hai happened to be there as Wen Xiaohui stepped into the house. The pair were engaged in conversation when Luo Yi noticed Wen Xiaohui; his solemn expression turned into a radiant smile, like a dormant flower bud suddenly bursting into bloom. It was so pretty, it was impossible for anyone to take their eyes off him.
“Xiaohui-ge, you’re back. I didn’t think you’d be back until next week.” Luo Yi went to greet him, lowering his head to kiss Wen Xiaohui without holding back. He took the opportunity to whisper in his ear, “You look beautiful today.”
Feeling slightly awkward, Wen Xiaohui glanced at Cao Hai. Beforehand, Luo Yi never showed his affection towards Wen Xiaohui publicly, even when they were most passionately in love. Wen Xiaohui used to think it was normal, and he wasn’t bothered since they were both men after all. Thinking about it, he realised that Luo Yi didn’t want to be seen to have any connections with him; his only value, at the time, was the inheritance.
Currently, Luo Yi wanted to let the whole world know about their relationship, and Wen Xiaohui was the one who didn’t care.
Cao Hai was calm as he said to Wen Xiaohui, “Long time no see.”
Wen Xiaohui nodded in response.
Luo Yi said cheerfully, “Did you come back for dinner?”
“No, I want to speak to you about the studio, but you two should continue first.”
“Okay, I’ll be done soon if you want to go upstairs and wait for me.”
Wen Xiaohui turned to head upstairs.
Seeing Wen Xiaohui’s figure disappear at the foot of the stairs, Cao Hai asked, “Are you sure you want to do this? It’s too much of a risk – Chang Xing has pledged everything on this last gamble, and he’ll drag you to hell with him, even if he can’t escape.”
Luo Yi picked up the martini from the table and took a sip before saying, “Cao Hai, do you think I’m actually that far from being in hell?”
Cao Hai was stunned.
Luo Yi applied the tip of the pen to the contract and said quietly, “You’ve practically watched me grow up, and I’m aware you’re only working with me because you felt you had no choice. A person like me can’t even keep a dog. If I died, perhaps no one would shed a tear.” Luo Yi glanced up and gave Cao Hai an intense look. “But Wen Xiaohui truly loved me. It was genuine and pure. He loved me. How could anybody love someone like me?” His voice conveyed a range of emotions as he chuckled. “He was still willing to help me after he found out I lied to him.”
Cao Hai frowned deeply. “While you understand ethics and you’re able to see through people, you always choose the most extreme and unusual path. What’s Wen Xiaohui like now? Can’t you tell? The more you force him, the more counterproductive it will be. Do you really not understand?”
“How could I not understand? I know exactly what he’s thinking, but I don’t know what to do. Seeing him is the only thing that makes me happy, but it’s the opposite for him. He’s only happy when I’m out of sight,” sneered Luo Yi. He picked up the glass of wine, swishing it gently. His eyes looked so deep and seemingly bottomless. “Of course I want him to be happy, but as long as I’m alive, it’s impossible for me to let him go.” He downed the martini in one gulp.
Cao Hai looked at Luo Yi – the extremely intelligent and handsome young man who had a glint of craziness and extremism in his eyes. He could have had a wonderful and perfect life, but he was born into this family, unfortunately. The greatest lament in this world happened to be a delicate and splendid fruit that was actually rotten to the core.
———————————————-
After Wen Xiaohui went upstairs, he took a few deep breaths consecutively, finally calming his frantically-beating heart. He kept the bedroom door open, so that he could hear Luo Yi coming upstairs, and then he started to search the room.
Having lived in the bedroom for several years, he was very familiar with it and rummaged through the places that could be used to hide something in order.
He was startled by the sound of footsteps after a while, and he hurriedly returned everything back to their original positions. He sat in front of the computer, opened up the film that he’d chosen in advance and started to watch it.
Upon arriving upstairs, Luo Yi had a faint smell of alcohol lingering on his body. Standing behind Wen Xiaohui, he put his weight on the computer desk, and his voice carried a hint of a laugh that could make a person’s heart race. “What are you watching?”
“Didn’t you download this?”
“I downloaded it for you. Don’t you like action films?” Luo Yi lowered his head to take in the fresh scent of Wen Xiaohui’s hair. He laughed softly, “Of course, I know you prefer a different kind of action film.”
Wen Xiaohui paused the film as he turned around to say, “I need to talk to you… mhmm.”
Luo Yi took the opportunity to kiss him on the lips, sucking gently.
Wen Xiaohui’s heart quivered, and he gripped the armrest of his chair.
After the kiss, Luo Yi looked satisfied as he licked his own lips. He pulled another chair out and sat down. “Tell me.”
“What’s the deal with Juxing? I haven’t contacted anyone from Juxing since I got back.”
“I’ve stayed in contact with Juxing’s largest shareholder. Juxing’s doing really well, but Liu Xing doesn’t seem to have the energy to keep up with it. He got divorced and looks after his two children by himself, so he really needs someone to help him. If you decide to go back, they’d be willing to discuss anything.”
Wen Xiaohui replied, “But I want to have my own studio and I’m planning to relocate my staff over from Pengcheng.”
“Do you not want to go back to Juxing?”
Wen Xiaohui shook his head. “I really like Juxing, but I want to have more freedom.”
Luo Yi smiled. “I’ll support you no matter what. Where do you want to set up the studio? If you let me know roughly which district and your requirements, I’ll sort the rest for you.”
“Juxing has three stores in Beijing at the moment. Let’s try to avoid them as much as possible and find somewhere closer to home.”
“Let’s choose XX Commercial District. It’s really close to Luo Rui’s bakery.”
“Okay.”
Luo Yi smiled as he pinched Wen Xiaohui’s cheeks. “I feel so happy I can do something for you.”
Wen Xiaohui lowered his head.
“What would you like to eat tonight? Or should we go out for dinner?”
“Let’s stay at home.”
“No problem.”
Luo Yi turned to head downstairs when Wen Xiaohui suddenly called out to him. “Luo Yi, how’s Chang Xing’s court case going?”
Luo Yi was shocked, then came back to his senses. “The trial is still ongoing. Why?”
“Are you sure he’ll be sentenced to prison?”
Luo Yi nodded. “It’s just a matter of how many years he’ll be sentenced to.”
“How many years will he get?”
“There’s a chance he won’t ever be released or he might be allowed out in a few years.”
“Aren’t you worried he’ll be out for revenge when he’s released?”
Luo Yi replied sombrely, “As long as he goes to prison, I’ll destroy his power structure, so that there’ll be nothing left, even if he is released some day.”
Wen Xiaohui mumbled to himself for a second. “You’re father and son, do you really have to go so far?”
“I started plotting my revenge from the moment he forced my mum to her death, and neither of us can turn back. If he doesn’t go to hell, then I’ll be the one to go to hell. I won’t let him off, he won’t spare me either.” Luo Yi gave Wen Xiaohui a profound look. “Also, he’s the reason I lost you. I can’t let everything I’ve done go to waste.”
Wen Xiaohui narrowed his eyes. “You’re responsible for your own actions, don’t blame other people.”
Luo Yi smiled a little. “Why did you suddenly ask about Chang Xing?”
“The sooner he’s sentenced, the sooner I’ll feel at ease. He’s so powerful, I’m worried about my mum’s safety.”
“Auntie will be going back to the US shortly.”
“Yeah, I’ll tell her to go back soon.”
“That’s good she’s going soon. Do you need me to arrange anything?”
“No, it’s okay.”
“I’m off to cook.” Luo Yi took a couple of steps before turning to ask, “Xiaohui-ge, you’re so worried about Auntie and Luo Rui, if I disappeared one day, would you be worried too?”
Wen Xiaohui furrowed his brows. “What are you trying to say?”
Luo Yi chuckled, “I’m just curious. We’ve known each other for nearly five years. Even if you hate me and always try to run away from me, would you feel sad if I wasn’t around anymore?”
Instinctively, Wen Xiaohui didn’t want to think about this question.
Luo Yi had many great qualities – he was intelligent and young, with both power and influence. But he also had a callous heart. There was nothing in this world that could knock him down, so Wen Xiaohui had never considered the possibility that he might disappear. He didn’t know Luo Yi’s motive for asking the question. Was he trying to gain sympathy? No matter what, Wen Xiaohui didn’t want to think about it at all – he couldn’t imagine a world without Luo Yi. After all, this person left marks as deep as rifts in his life. He turned to say, “I’m going to watch the film.”
Luo Yi looked at Wen Xiaohui from behind and smiled slightly.
After Luo Yi went downstairs, Wen Xiaohui rushed to pause the film and continued searching for the items mentioned by the bodyguard.
