Additional Inheritance - Chap 93
Chapter 93
Wiping the tears off his face, Luo Yi said gently, “Xiaohui-ge, you should be the one to go.”
Wen Xiaohui turned to give him a look of disbelief. “Go? And let you get blown to pieces?”
“Chang Xing won’t let me die until he gets what he needs. He must be controlling the bomb remotely, and he’s only doing this to torture us. You should go. My men will be at the port by now, they’ll guarantee your safety.” In the end, Luo Yi gave Wen Xiaohui’s hand a tight squeeze before letting go gradually.
The instant their hands parted, Wen Xiaohui felt the warmth leave his body – he felt a chill and shivered. He gritted his teeth and shook his head. “Chang Xing’s not messing around. What if the bomb isn’t remote-controlled and it can’t be stopped?”
“The bomb is remote-controlled. Trust me.” Luo Yi tilted his chin in the direction of the corner of the cabin. “Look carefully at that stack of cargo, there’s a hidden webcam inside.”
Wen Xiaohui rubbed the moisture from his eyes to take a closer look. It did look like a webcam, but he was still too apprehensive to leave. If he stood up, the bomb would explode within 100 seconds. Merely 100 seconds. Luo Yi could be buried in the depths of the ocean if anything went wrong. In the face of death, their past grievances had paled in significance, and his only concern right was ensuring their survival.
Luo Yi urged, “Go, Xiaohui-ge. I can’t bargain with Chang Xing unless I know you’re safe.”
Wen Xiaohui shook his head. “What if the bomb explodes?”
“If the bomb explodes… Ensuring your safety is enough for me.”
Wen Xiaohui glared at him. “How will I face Yaya if you die?”
Luo Yi was still able to laugh at a time like this. “I’ll head over first and tell her how happy I am to have met you.”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart ached as he closed his eyes tightly. “If your men have reached the shore, why haven’t they come to save us?”
“Chang Xing is out at sea and his boat is just outside of the range of the explosion. If my men onshore came to rescue us, they’d inadvertently alert Chang Xing.”
“What’s he waiting for?”
“A new identity, cash, and diamonds.” Luo Yi replied, “He already had a plan set out before he escaped, but his assets were frozen, and he can’t access his overseas bank account. He won’t kill me until he gets his new identity and money.”
“What about afterwards? How will you get away?”
Luo Yi paused briefly. “My men will come and rescue me.”
“You can’t guarantee that. Do you think Chang Xing will let you off so easily? He risked getting caught to bring both of us here and take revenge on you!”
Luo Yi gave him a look of indifference. “Even if that’s the case, what can you achieve by staying?”
Wen Xiaohui was immediately lost for words.
Luo Yi was right. He couldn’t do anything and might even become a burden.
Luo Yi smiled slightly. “Xiaohui-ge, this is the path I chose, so let me follow it to the end. It shouldn’t be up to you to shoulder the consequences of my actions. That’s why you should go far away from me and Chang Xing. I won’t feel at ease until you’re safe. As for me and Chang Xing, we’ll settle our score here.”
Wen Xiaohui’s voice trembled. “I’m scared that the bomb will go off. I…” He couldn’t persuade himself to get up. He couldn’t bear the possible consequences.
“I promise you the bomb will not explode.”
“How are you going to keep your promise?”
Luo Yi thought to himself for a while, then stripped off his jacket and flung it towards one of the corners of the cabin. The jacket obscured the webcam.
Shortly afterwards, the still waters of the sea were disturbed by the sound of a speedboat. The sound became louder, and within two minutes, the speedboat had stopped by the side of their boat. The sound of heavy footsteps echoed. The man, who had been bringing Wen Xiaohui food for the past few days, came inside cautiously with a gun in his hand.
When he saw that they were both sitting securely on the sensors, he let out a sigh and shouted crudely at Luo Yi, “What are you doing?”
Luo Yi looked at him icily. “I want to chop your hand off! The one you used to touch Xiaohui-ge.”
The man pointed the pitch-black mouth of the gun at Luo Yi, as he berated him. “Do you want to die?!”
Luo Yi did not appear to be flustered, glaring sinisterly at the man.
The man was frightened that Luo Yi would stand up. He held the gun while shuffling towards the corner of the cabin, removing the jacket draped on top of the webcam.
“Have you never used a gun before?” asked Luo Yi softly.
The man’s expression became sombre, and he remained silent.
“Nearly all of Chang Xing’s men have been arrested, I don’t know where he found riff-raff like your lot. How much is he paying you?”
The man yelled, “I’ll shoot you if you don’t stop bullshitting.”
“Do you dare?” Luo Yi sneered. “Chang Xing’s bank account has been frozen, and he can’t access his foreign accounts. How much is he paying you? Let me guess, he said you’ll receive either cash or diamonds today. I have them prepared, but I’m the one with the final say on whether they’ll arrive, when they’ll arrive, and the amount that will arrive. In reality, you’re being paid by me. I’m your boss.”
The man was dumbfounded – seemingly intimidated by those words.
“Not only can I pay you ten times your fee immediately, I can also promise you won’t be arrested.”
The man’s eyes wandered. He was clearly tempted.
Luo Yi smiled ambiguously at the webcam, then continued to use his captivating voice to lead the man astray. “Think carefully. Taking Chang Xing’s money is not only dangerous, there’s also no guarantee. I’m different.”
“My boss said you’re cunning and that I shouldn’t fall for your tricks!” shouted the man.
“It’s true, but Chang Xing might not trust you any more.”
“What?” The man looked at the webcam after his sudden reaction. They’d been talking in front of it for a while, and although there was a lack of audio, their expressions were still visible, which appeared suspicious. The man knew he looked a little guilty, and he appeared even more guilty the more he thought about it.
“If I decided to stand up and grab you, do you think you’ll be able to get away within 100 seconds?”
The man recoiled and said anxiously, “Don’t be hasty.”
“Do you think Chang Xing will terminate the countdown for you?”
The man’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
“He wouldn’t, am I right? Why would he care about you dying? Similarly, betrayal is his bottom line. We’ve been chatting for a few minutes, I bet he already suspects you. How can you have the guts to go back?”
The man opened his eyes so wide that they nearly popped out. In just a few minutes, Luo Yi had forced him into a quandary.
At that moment, a speedboat sounded again, and soon, it moored outside their cabin. A thin man walked in holding a gun, looking at them warily. “What’s taking so long?”
Staring at the muzzle, the man didn’t dare to move at all. “N-nothing. This guy wanted to bribe me to let him go.”
“Did the boss tell you not to listen to him? Head back once the webcam is working!”
“Okay.” Before he left, he turned to glance at Luo Yi with a complicated look.
Luo Yi smiled and remained silent.
After both men left, the fake smile disappeared off Luo Yi’s face. “Xiaohui-ge, did you hear that the bomb has a termination setting and it’s being controlled from Chang Xing’s boat? It could be in Chang Xing’s hands.”
Wen Xiaohui didn’t know how to react. Not only did Luo Yi nearly succeed in bringing the enemy to his side with a simple move and a few words, he also extracted some important information. Only someone as shrewd as Chang Xing could compete with that level of IQ. Wen Xiaohui was an idiot compared with Luo Yi. He took a deep breath. “Are you confident you can escape?”
“Yes.” Luo Yi replied confidently, “Xiaohui-ge, you won’t be able to help me even if you stay, and you might ruin my plans. You need to leave as soon as possible, so I can focus my attention on dealing with Chang Xing.”
Wen Xiaohui gulped. Despite feeling uneasy, he couldn’t think of a better plan and he couldn’t stay and wait around forever. Chang Xing would kill them even if they didn’t die from dehydration or starvation.
Luo Yi added softly, “Xiaohui-ge, trust me one more time. Trust me, okay? You should go now. Run straight out, start the speedboat, and get back onshore. Chang Xing’s men onshore will have been taken care of, so you’ll be safe.”
Wen Xiaohui drew a deep breath. “What should I do when I get back onshore? Should I call the police?”
“Don’t do anything. Let them take you back home and pretend nothing happened.”
“But, you…”
“Don’t worry about me. Don’t turn back, no matter what happens.”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart trembled. Despite Luo Yi’s confidence, it was impossible to dispel the feeling that they could be forever parted. After all, they were sitting on explosives. He clenched his teeth, eventually running out of reasons to hesitate. He was left with no choice but to reply: “Okay.”
Luo Yi heaved a sigh of relief and looked at Wen Xiaohui with a tender and mesmerising smile. “Have a good night’s sleep when you get home, your life will be back to normal the next day. I won’t disturb you any more… I’m giving your life back to you. Also, I previously promised you the inheritance Mum left you – Cao Hai has already sorted it and he’ll be in touch. I hope that one day you won’t hate me when you think of me, and instead, you’ll have happy memories.”
Wen Xiaohui’s heart throbbed, like he was about to drown in Luo Yi’s deeply affectionate eyes. He didn’t know whether he should continue doubting those eyes, because they looked so genuine. Wen Xiaohui croaked in his husky voice, “Let’s discuss this when you get back.”
Luo Yi looked at him with eyes that shone as bright as the moon, but his tone of voice resembled the most desolate star in the sky. “Okay, let’s talk about it when we get back.”
Wen Xiaohui sat with his fists clenched, his legs felt numb after such a long time. Thinking about how he’d have to get up off the bomb sensor, not only were his legs numb, they also began to weaken at the knees.
With red-rimmed eyes, Luo Yi glanced at Wen Xiaohui, and his voice trembled as he said, “Go. Leave this boat as fast as you can.”
Wen Xiaohui turned to look at Luo Yi with tears rolling down his cheeks to the ground. “Will you come back?”
Luo Yi smiled tearfully. “I’ll definitely come back.”
Wen Xiaohui clamped down on his lower lip as he shifted his right leg and bent it at the knee in preparation to stand.
Luo Yi called out to him softly, “Xiaohui-ge.”
Wen Xiaohui turned his head. “What?”
Fixing his attention on Wen Xiaohui, Luo Yi whispered, “I just wanted to see you.”
The courage gathered by Wen Xiaohui was nearly wiped out. Both his legs felt wobbly, he was unable to stand.
Luo Yi closed his eyes and said hoarsely, “Go.”
Wen Xiaohui’s vision blurred.
“Go. I’m begging you, please leave.” Luo Yi’s cries echoed throughout the cabin, tearing through their souls like a sharp blade.
A howl tore from Wen Xiaohui’s throat, he sprung up and dashed out of the cabin without looking back. The device’s countdown initiated behind him.
