After Pretending To Have Amnesia, My Rival Said I Was His Boyfriend - Chap 4
There are many rumors about Ji Canghai dropping out of school.
Some say he is the illegitimate child of the chairman of a certain group and only attended school to experience life. Now, he is preparing to go back and inherit the family business.
Others say that he and the omega who used to stick to him all the time have formed a bond and are taking a year off school for their true love. They plan to repeat the year next year.
There are all kinds of rumors and it’s hard to tell what’s true and what’s false.
Since Ji Canghai dropped out of school, Ling Yunfan’s motivation to study has decreased. He even fell out of the top 20 in the next monthly exam, which scared the homeroom teacher, who quickly had a talk with him.
Homeroom teacher: “Ling Yunfan, you know that this year of high school is very important and you can’t take it lightly. If others are working hard and you’re just standing still, that’s falling behind. Why did you regress so much in the last monthly exam? Did you fall in love or something? Blah blah blah…”
Ling Yunfan was overwhelmed by the scolding and didn’t really listen to what the teacher was saying. He just said, “Yes, yes, you’re right, teacher.”
Homeroom teacher: “What?! Are you really in love? How dare you, young man!”
Ling Yunfan: “No, I’m not! I’m not!”
However, after the talk, Ling Yunfan suddenly realized that he couldn’t slack off like this. After all, Ji Canghai might suddenly come back, and if he couldn’t even pass the person who dropped out of school, wouldn’t that be embarrassing?
But even on the day he left campus, Ling Yunfan didn’t see Ji Canghai again.
On the day of graduation, classmates gathered to sing and feast until late at night, using carefree cheerfulness to mask their deep-seated sorrow.
Ling Yunfan didn’t get home until two in the morning, hurriedly showered, and collapsed onto his bed, ready to sleep. Suddenly, his phone, lying next to his pillow, vibrated.
Struggling to stay awake, Ling Yunfan picked up his phone and saw a short message from an unknown number.
The message read simply: “Happy graduation, Fan-ge. Don’t forget me.”
Ling Yunfan replied, “Thanks, but sorry, I don’t have you saved in my contacts. Who are you?”
He never received a response to this message.
Ling Yunfan didn’t dwell on the matter, because the upcoming exam results and college applications kept him busy and distracted.
But then his life took a sharp turn.
During his freshman year, Ling Yunfan’s parents were killed in a car accident.
When he arrived at the hospital at 3:30 in the morning, all he found waiting for him were two unrecognizable and lifeless bodies in the morgue.
The world spun around him, and Ling Yunfan collapsed to his knees, feeling as though his insides had been thrown into a blender, too overwhelmed to even cry out in pain.
The icy white tiles beneath his knees shattered with a resounding crack.
Just like Ling Yunfan’s life.
When Ling Yunfan’s parents got married, there were some things they never talked about, and as a result, the Ling family never visited any relatives over the years. Ling Yunfan didn’t even know who his grandparents or his maternal grandparents were.
As a result, Ling Yunfan was alone and found it difficult to move forward.
The insurance company and the person responsible for the accident paid a sum of money, but at that time, Ling’s father’s company was going through a transformation and borrowed a lot of money. After Ling’s father passed away, there was no one to manage the company, and the funding chain broke, resulting in a loss of millions and a direct bankruptcy.
Ling Yunfan tried to stay strong and took care of his parents’ affairs and the company’s affairs, but he didn’t have much money left.
He didn’t go back to school and locked himself at home, seeing no one.
Ling Yunfan started suffering from severe insomnia. He couldn’t sleep for several days and nights. Whenever he closed his eyes, he could see his parents lying in the funeral home, disfigured.
In order to get some sleep, Ling Yunfan started drinking and even took sleeping pills, which eventually ruined his health.
One day, he overdosed and vomited in the bathroom, feeling as if the Grim Reaper had tightly grabbed his throat. In a daze, Ling Yunfan crawled from the bathroom to the living room and, in a pitiful state, picked up his phone and dialed 120 himself.
Although it was painful, Ling Yunfan managed to pull through, both physically and mentally.
After being discharged from the hospital, he adjusted his schedule, ate regularly, exercised, and, when his body had recovered enough, Ling Yunfan contacted his university advisor, apologized for dropping out without explanation, and hoped to return to school.
The advisor had already heard about the changes in Ling Yunfan’s family and sympathized with him. The advisor did everything possible to help him contact the school, and they agreed to let him return.
Ling Yunfan didn’t disappoint his advisor and earned a scholarship with excellent grades at the end of his sophomore year.
Unexpectedly, during the summer between his sophomore and junior year, something happened again.
It all started when a friend from high school came to ask for Ling Yunfan’s help.
This friend had been supportive of Ling Yunfan when his family was going through a tough time, sending him messages of encouragement and helping him in many ways while he was in the hospital.
Grateful for his friend’s support, Ling Yunfan wholeheartedly helped him when he asked for it.
So when Ling Yunfan found out that his friend had used his personal information to borrow a large sum of money at high interest rates and then disappeared the next day, he was dumbfounded.
Ling Yunfan reported the incident to the police, but because all the loan information pointed to him, he had no choice but to repay the debt.
Ling Yunfan had to take another leave of absence from school because the incident of the illegal loan was brought to the attention of the school. If it weren’t for his advisor’s efforts to fight for him, Ling Yunfan would have been expelled instead of having his enrollment status preserved.
Things went from bad to worse.
The loan sharks found out where Ling Yunfan lived and vandalized his home with paint, smashed his door, and put up posters. Although these actions were not illegal, they were enough to drive someone crazy.
Ling Yunfan sold the house he had lived in with his parents for 20 years in order to quickly restore a normal life. He gathered all the money he had, but still couldn’t pay off his debts.
He rented a small, dilapidated room in a village in the city that was less than ten square meters. During the day, he delivered takeout for a small restaurant, and at night he worked as a bartender at a bar. He slept only four or five hours a day, just to be able to repay his loans as soon as possible.
The owner of the restaurant was a big tattooed man with a scar from his eye to his mouth. His entire body seemed to say, “I have a story. Do you have any alcohol?”
The big tattooed man was warm and generous. After learning about Ling Yunfan’s situation, he not only didn’t look down on him, but also let him eat for free in the restaurant three times a day and occasionally gave him some financial help.
One time, a loan shark came to cause trouble and found their way to the restaurant. The big man took a drag of his cigarette, pulled out a butcher knife, and slammed it on the table, scaring off the loan shark and his associates.
The big tattooed man had a daughter who was a beta, and the little girl inherited her father’s warmth. After two months of getting to know each other, she treated Ling Yunfan as a brother and secretly told him that the scar on her father’s face was caused by a cat scratching him.
Ling Yunfan asked, “Was it a cat or a tiger? Please make it clear.”
The small restaurant, filled with human warmth and fire, allowed Ling Yunfan to feel the warmth of home that he had long missed.
However, these feelings of warmth could not melt the three-foot block of ice in his destiny.
Although Ling Yunfan had been working hard, the debts he owed were increasing with compound interest, and the hole couldn’t be filled.
One day, the henchmen of the loan shark found Ling Yunfan’s rented house in the middle of the night and blocked him inside.
