Desharow Mermaid - Chap 52
“Are you sure there was someone here just now?”
“Yes, Colonel, I heard someone’s voice just now, it sounded like… like Desarollo!”
My nerves tightened as it was the voices of Lein and Shakaral, and I shrunk in the shadow, my back pressed against the trunk of a tree, watching them appear near a pile of pillars about ten meters away from me. If they approached a little closer, they would hear my heavy breathing that I couldn’t suppress. I covered my mouth and nose tightly, not daring to move, and my eardrums throbbed with my own chaotic heartbeat. My whole body was trembling with intense anxiety, and I only hoped they wouldn’t hear the slightest sound.
“He must still be around here.” Lein continued, scanning around, shining his flashlight in all directions, approaching my direction. I retreated further back into the shadows, hiding myself deeper, my heart hanging in my throat, and just as he was about to push aside the bushes in front of me, Shakaral spoke up.
“Hey, don’t bother, we need to focus on the task at hand. We have to hurry to the coast to meet up with the doctor and the others. As for Desarollo, who you want to find… the island will be occupied by the military tomorrow, and those Russians won’t be able to escape.”
Shakaral spoke lightly, but my heart sank, knowing that something was wrong. Those ships belonged to Shakaral’s people, and they were being accompanied by the military! Who were they, and what was their purpose in coming to Merfolk Island?
I stared at Lein’s pensive face, and saw him frown in silence for a few seconds before turning around. “Colonel Shakaral, I have no objections to dealing with those Russian bastards, but I hope you can spare Desarollo’s life. He’s so young, a genius in the field of biology. He has value as a survivor. We can recruit him as a member of the experimental base that will be built here.”
An experimental base? They wanted to turn this island into an experimental base? For what? Mermaids? Were they using the genes of mermaids to create biological weapons, and why did they need to be guarded by the military?
I took a deep breath and broke out in a sweat.
In shock, I saw Shakaral turn around, laughing coldly, her sharp eyes flashing with cold light. “This is not something you and I can decide, Lein. Don’t let your emotions affect your actions and judgment. I admit that Desarollo is very useful, and he’s very charming and brave. He throws himself into danger for his dreams,” her face suddenly darkened, and she whispered a few words, “like a… ”
Sakaral interrupted, “You like him, you have fallen in love with him. Rein, admit it openly. We are not rigid Russians, we allow homosexuality, but emotions can only exist under military orders.”
“…I understand.”
Damn it! My hand was clenched into the bark, breathing heavily. The intense mental strain heightened my physiological reaction. I was sure that Sakaral’s words just now contained a language other than English. I couldn’t understand her meaning, but I could tell it was German.
They are Germans, and it is very likely that they are Nazi remnants who are still trying to make a comeback after World War II.
They had been hiding in Moscow for a long time, maybe they had set their sights on the mermaid island discovered by Dr. Venogradov many years ago, and then cunningly disguised themselves as Russians to plan a huge conspiracy, dragging the Americans into it, making them think that Russia was up to something, making us think that the United States was going to deal with Russia, and they hid in the shadows, reaping benefits and seizing the opportunity for a resurgence.
Oh my God… I have to tell Raffael and the others about this as soon as possible. I can’t stay here any longer!
I swallowed my saliva and watched as Rein and the others walked away. I struggled to get up from the ground with my body as weak as rotten mud. But just as I took a few steps, I fell down again, slipping down a small slope. Rein’s shout came from behind, and the sound of footsteps approached me from far to near. “Hey! Who’s there? Is it D’Asaro?”
Damn, this is bad! I rolled over and crawled towards the forest, but my weak legs couldn’t give me any strength. After running a few meters, I stumbled and fell to the ground. When I looked back, I saw Lain standing close by, apparently noticing my whole body’s abnormality – my feverish, reddened body, the bulge under the canvas at my waist, and the transparent fluid that was difficult to mention.
I curled up and shrunk back, using my arms to cover my bright red cheeks, and shouted in embarrassment, “Get away from me! Don’t look at me like that, stay away!”
“Let me help you, Tesoro! You’re sick!” Lain grabbed my arm and tried to pull me up, but my body was too heavy and I struggled, causing him to fall on top of me. For a moment, his face hung over mine, and he seemed stunned, unable to take his eyes off me. I knew I looked like a drugged-up adult film actor, maybe not exactly attractive, but falling into Lain’s hands like this was too dangerous.
Too dangerous! Tesoro, hurry, get out of here!
I thought this and tried to climb up and run away, but my body couldn’t move. I lay dizzy and breathless, feeling around on the ground to prop myself up, but I felt a rough hand on my thigh. My leg jerked like a spring, and my blurry eyes refocused with a sense of danger. I saw a hint of warmth in his resolute face, “Hey, did my little Wallace get hit by some kind of special drug? You seem to need to do that thing…” he said, his hand moving towards my crotch, his voice hoarse, “it’s all swollen here…”
“Get away from me!” I reluctantly bent my knee and gave Lain a kick, took the opportunity to pull away, but he pounced on me from behind and hugged me tightly. I screamed and struggled with him, but he pressed me against a tree, seemingly trying to tie me up by crossing my hands. I fought with all my might, and in the intense struggle, all the mud on my body was wiped away. I couldn’t match Lain’s military skills, and after a few moves, he had me firmly restrained. When I was gasping for air, and about to run out of strength, a low growl suddenly came from somewhere in the darkness, making the surrounding leaves rustle…
My whole body shook as if electrified. In that moment when Rhein’s strength relaxed, I shot up like a frightened rabbit, running blindly into the forest. Gunshots sounded behind me, and Shakalal shouted, “That mermaid! Rhein, shoot her!”
Bang, bang, bang, more shots rang out, but I heard Aegres’s roar, and the wind at my back pushed me forward, faster and faster. I couldn’t breathe properly, and the lack of oxygen made my brain feel fuzzy. I couldn’t tell if I was dreaming or in the real world. Rhein’s shouts seemed far away, “Desallo, come back, the mermaid is in front of you!”
Panicking, I looked ahead and suddenly found myself standing at the edge of a steep cliff. Below was a huge dark cave. Before I could stop myself, I fell over the edge. Just as I was about to hit the bottom, someone grabbed my arm and I was left hanging in mid-air. Looking up, I saw Rhein staring down at me, his eyes bulging. I grabbed onto his arm tightly and tried not to look down, but I could hear the muffled sounds of roars coming from the cave below.
My nerves were stretched to the limit. Rhein held me tightly, his grip on my sweaty arm firm. “Don’t look, Desallo! Hang on, I’ll pull you up!” But before he finished warning me, I couldn’t resist looking down.
God only knows what I saw.
I saw Henry, lying on a rock, his naked body pressed down by several pairs of white webbed hands and feet. Several strong male mermaids were on top of him, one of them thrusting into him relentlessly. Blood and indiscernible objects ran down his buttocks, maybe his intestines. He was barely conscious, having been taken by many of them. And there were countless others waiting their turn, hungry for their own piece of him.
Where is D’Artagnan? I looked around in a daze, but I couldn’t see him anywhere. The disgusting scene in front of me made me convulse and dry heave in terror. I clutched Raoul’s hand tightly and struggled to climb up the rocks with my feet, but my arms were too slippery, and my feet couldn’t find any traction. Just as I was about to lose all hope, a dark shadow suddenly darted out from behind Raoul!
I was caught off guard and startled. My body shook, and my arm slipped out of Raoul’s grip in an instant. The feeling of weightlessness filled my entire body, and the next moment, I plunged into the sea. I looked up at the blurry opening of the cave for a few seconds, and then I saw many dark shadows rushing towards me from all sides. My brain exploded, and I immediately flailed my limbs and floated up to the surface of the water. The surrounding male mermaids gathered around me, glaring at me with their crazed, shining pupils, like ghostly flames floating in a cemetery, as if they wanted to burn me to ashes.
Henry’s painful screams pierced my scalp, but I didn’t dare to turn my head to look. I just panicked and retreated, crawling onto a rock in the center of the water chamber, trembling all over. I couldn’t tell how many pairs of webbed claws were reaching out from the water surface beside me, holding down my limbs, touching my legs, and tearing my clothes, as if they were fighting over a precious booty. I swore that this was definitely the most terrifying day of my life, and I had never experienced anything like this hellish nightmare before.
Just when I felt like I was about to collapse from fear, a long shadow suddenly fell from above, like a sharp blade splitting the surface of the sea and creating a huge wave. The familiar silhouette emerged from the scattered water mist, and those gloomy eyes just roamed around me without any warning or roar. All the mermaids around me retreated in an instant and hid in the water, only showing half of their heads, quietly watching their leader.
I slumped weakly against the rock, the hot desire inside me swelling rapidly, leaving me no strength to run away. I could only watch as Aegir approached me from the water, swimming up to me from above, leaning over me, his shadow covering me completely. The thick hormone scent was like a cloud about to burst into a torrential rain, falling heavily on me.
His webbed claws scooped me up by the waist and hugged me tightly. I deeply sniffed his breath, as if a heavy drug addict who had been sober for days was relapsing…
