Don’t Mess with the Puppy! - Vol.2 Chapter 4 Part 6
After being appointed as the Watcher, Yoon Chi-young was able to escape the grueling training.
‘Now I can return home…’
The exhausted Yoon Chi-young passed the time with only the hope of returning home. After waiting day by day, when the promised day finally arrived, he set out. His always kind mother would welcome him. He believed his siblings would still be as close as ever. Yoon Chi-young wanted to meet his family somehow and rest within the safety of his pack.
Coincidentally, the day of his return was his older sister’s birthday.
‘What does my sister like now? Dolls?’
Although Yoon Chi-young had grown into an adult physically, he personally chose a gift reminiscing about his childhood sister. For Yoon Chi-young, it was a gift signaling a new beginning and a sign of delight.
In the car on the way home, Yoon Chi-young fiddled with the gift box with his exhausted eyes. He couldn’t help it as he hadn’t slept properly. If he fell asleep and woke up, he was afraid someone would collapse and bleed, so he couldn’t even close his eyes for a moment. He tried forcibly relying on sleeping pills to sleep deeply, but to no avail. Rather than passing time, it felt like he was dying within time.
Still, there was hope.
‘Maybe things will get better when I’m with my family…’
As wolves were pack animals, they had excellent solidarity within the pack. They naturally thought they were born in the arms of the pack and died in the arms of the pack. For Yoon Chi-young, returning to his pack and hometown was his only hope and comfort.
‘Even being the Watcher… If I say I don’t want to accept it, Mother will listen.’
And so, Yoon Chi-young arrived at the main house of the large werewolf clan, believing his training was now over.
Although he arrived late at night, lights were on everywhere as it was his sister’s birthday. It was like a romantic Christmas day. With the gift in his hand, Yoon Chi-young entered the house with hope.
And Yoon Chi-young still cannot forget the moment he entered the hall where the birthday party was being held.
〈……〉
The surprised gazes of the relatives gathered discreetly on Yoon Chi-young.
They stared at Yoon Chi-young with eyes filled with surprise and contempt, as if looking at an intruder. There was even fear mixed in. Someone grabbed the hand of a relative and stepped back, while someone blatantly revealed a wary gaze.
In the midst of it, Yoon Chi-young stood still and observed his surroundings. He took in everything, from the way his relatives avoided his path as he walked to the shocked expressions of his family standing at the end.
〈…Chi-young.〉
It was his eldest sister. However, the star of the birthday party did not welcome her younger brother. The changed gazes of his family were no different from those of another wolf pack.
Looking down at the gift box in his hand, Yoon Chi-young had a premonition.
Everyone here knows what he has done.
The fingertips holding the box trembled finely. His gray eyes wavered weakly, then turned pale as if resigned. Biting his lip, Yoon Chi-young laughed as if giving up. Of all days, he had come to clearly see reality.
〈……〉
With darkly and dimly sunken eyes, Yoon Chi-young approached his sister.
Everyone stepped back one step at a time as they watched Yoon Chi-young. He could feel gazes filled with contempt, fear, disgust, and occasionally even admiration. However, Yoon Chi-young could sense that even the admiration wasn’t with pure intentions.
It was strange. Yoon Chi-young had definitely undergone the Watcher’s training to protect his family. However, Yoon Chi-young himself had become a rejected existence.
In any case, he could never return to his pack again.
Having cleanly given up, Yoon Chi-young swept away useless emotions and grasped the situation. Now he had to look at them not as a wolf belonging to the pack, but as an outsider.
From the beginning, his father would have had no intention of hiding from the pack what Yoon Chi-young had done.
That way, the Watcher’s power would become stronger, making it easier for the next-generation Clan Leader to lead the clan. Thinking about it, it was obvious.
〈…Sister.〉
Standing in front of his sister, Yoon Chi-young slowly raised his head. His sister, their father’s favorite trophy. His sister had also grown up as elegant and tall as him. However, her eyes looking at her younger brother were filled with contempt and a hint of sympathy. Even his mother, standing beside her, was fidgeting but unable to approach her fourth son.
After resignation came acceptance.
Now Yoon Chi-young had no hometown to return to, no family waiting for him. He simply had to face them as the next Watcher.
〈…Happy birthday, it’s a gift.〉
Yoon Chi-young smiled and handed over the gift. His sister quietly thanked him but didn’t receive it herself, instead having an attendant beside her receive the gift. Although Yoon Chi-young had exhausted and tired eyes, he quietly left the scene after exchanging final greetings with them. Behind Yoon Chi-young, whispers followed for a long time.
Stepping outside, Yoon Chi-young got in the car and told the attendant,
〈I want to go home.〉
〈…Yes.〉
The driver quietly drove the car. The destination was the terrible place where Yoon Chi-young had been training all this time.
With tired eyes, Yoon Chi-young leaned his forehead against the car window and looked at the mansion of the werewolf clan. It was a place filled with childhood memories, but now it was a place where no one waited for him. That feeling of losing his hometown always left Yoon Chi-young’s heart empty.
After that, Yoon Chi-young accepted the path of the Watcher. If he couldn’t return, he had to adapt.
