Ex-Husband Wants To Marry Again - Chap 29
The sky in Kyoto appeared especially cold and desolate under the furious night chill, in contrast to the beautiful October weather in Tongcheng.
On the tall, slender ginkgo trees lining the roads in Tongcheng, the edges of the leaves had already turned yellow, and the vivid green mixed with the faint yellow, conveying a slight melancholy in the midst of flourishing life. This autumn scene gave the whole city a sense of sedate calmness.
Ji Ran had already recovered quickly and could walk out of bed. He looked up at the birds in the sky with a relaxed and contented mood.
A light breeze blew and carried the subtle scent of osmanthus in the air. In a few days, it would be the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the servants were harvesting osmanthus to make mooncakes with osmanthus filling.
Ji Ran sat in the garden watching the servants pick osmanthus. Suddenly, footsteps approached from behind. He turned around and faced Rong Cheng’s gentle smile. “Senior, how are you feeling?” Rong Cheng asked.
“Much better!” Ji Ran smiled slightly.
Under the sunlight, Ji Ran’s smile shone brightly, making Rong Cheng’s heart skip a beat. His eyes locked onto Ji Ran’s eyes passionately, causing Ji Ran to notice his intentions.
Ji Ran was secretly surprised that Rong Cheng had feelings for him.
Ji Ran looked away and gazed into the distance, feeling a bit flustered. Sensing Ji Ran’s emotional change, Rong Cheng anxiously lowered his head and clenched and loosened his hand beside him repeatedly. After several repetitions, he seemed to have finally made up his mind. He mustered up the courage to approach Ji Ran and looked straight into his eyes, saying, “Senior, I like you! Give me a chance to take good care of you.”
Ji Ran was slightly taken aback. He did not expect Rong Cheng to confess to him so directly. After a brief shock, he sincerely said, “Rong Cheng, thank you for liking me! But I really have no intention of falling in love recently.”
After four years of being in love with Ye Linghan, Ji Ran had exhausted all his efforts, resulting in a battered body. Now he dared not touch love again.
Rong Cheng did not give up after Ji Ran’s rejection. He took a step forward and said earnestly, “Senior, let’s start as friends. Step by step, if things develop well in the future, we can become lovers. If you still don’t like me in the future, we will always be friends.”
“You don’t have to do this!” Ji Ran was both moved and guilty. It seemed that rejecting such a sincere and excellent person would become a lifelong regret.
But he couldn’t just be with Rong Cheng because of gratitude; that would be disrespectful to Rong Cheng. “I know you have just come out of a relationship and can’t trust anyone else for the time being,” Rong Cheng continued, “but I can wait. As long as you need me, I’ll be here.”
Under the sunlight, Rong Cheng’s smile was particularly beautiful.
Suddenly, Jiran felt that there were many beautiful things in this world, and only by being alive could she feel every moment of life.
Chapter 44: Angels and Ugliness
On the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Four Seasons Hotel in Tongcheng held a large costume ball.
Since arriving in Tongcheng, Jiran had never left his house. Rongcheng was afraid that he would feel bored at home, so he specially obtained an entrance ticket to the ball and planned to help Jiran adjust his mood.
When Jiran saw the ticket, he didn’t want to go.
He worriedly said, “Yelinghan won’t let me go. During this period, I should not show up. I will go abroad after everything is settled. I don’t want to cause trouble for you.”
But Rongcheng did not share his concerns. “Senior, don’t worry! Tongcheng is my brother’s territory. Even if Yelinghan has connections in Kyoto, his hands won’t reach here. I heard that the ball is very interesting and has many entertainment activities. Let’s go and check it out.”
Rongcheng was like an un-grown child, sunny and lively.
Under his lead, Jiran’s mood also relaxed, and he decided to go to the ball.
The costume ball did not reveal their true identities, so Jiran was not afraid of being recognized.
Many ball gowns were sent by the servants for Jiran to choose from. In the end, Jiran picked a black medieval-style gown from northern Europe.
Jiran had a good figure with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. The waistline of the dress perfectly adorned his strong waist, making him look noble and elegant.
When Rongcheng changed his clothes and saw Jiran’s attire, his gaze straightened for a moment.
Jiran was already handsome. With a little bit of dressing up, he became even more attractive.
Rongcheng generously complimented, “Senior, you look really handsome!”
Jiran smiled and said, “You look good too.”
Rongcheng was a sunny and outgoing guy, and his eyes curved like crescent moons when he smiled, giving people a particularly lively and friendly feeling.
He wore a Chinese-style suit today, with embroidered patterns on the cuffs and collar.
The regular clothes gave him a heroic and elegant feeling.
After being praised by Jiran, Rongcheng became even happier.
He handed over a mask in his hand. It was an angel wing mask, with two wings, one black and one white.
The combination of a black angel and a white angel, darkness and light perfectly merged into one mask.
“Senior, I think this mask is especially suitable for you!” Rongcheng said.
Jiran took the mask and tried it on his face. The mask covered his entire face, leaving only his eyes exposed.
Rongcheng wore a small ugly mask, with black tears falling from the right corner of his eye to his cheek.
The face of the small ugly mask was half sad and half joyful.
Rong Cheng shook the mask in his hand and said with a smile: “Senior, don’t you think our masks match really well? Your darkness and light, and my sadness and joy.”
“I want to take away your darkness and give you my joy.”
Rong Cheng’s words were like a warm current flowing into Ji Ran’s heart, the warm feeling making his eyebrows and eyes curl up with a smile: “Rong Cheng, thank you!”h
