This strong man was actually begging him! Zhang Chen suddenly found it utterly ridiculous! He had chosen to shoulder so many difficult things all by himself, and now that the path to making money was right in front of him, he was pleading with him to give it up!

The cigarette was finished. You Shulang stubbed it out on the rough wall, wrapped it in a tissue from his pocket, held it in his palm, and then looked up at Zhang Chen.
His eyes were dark and brooding, blending into the sky behind him. He glanced down at the building below and said slowly, “Zhang Chen, do you know what the consequences would be if you jumped from here?”
“You’ll fall through the air for about 10 seconds before landing,” You Shulang said, not going into too much detail, but simply stating, “You’ll look terrible.”
He lit another cigarette, and with each inhale and exhale, a sense of melancholy yet nonchalant air about him: “Oh, there’s a safety mat down there.” He lifted his chin slightly. “You can ask these firefighters, is it even necessary to use a structure this tall?”
Zhang Chen’s face grew increasingly pale: “Trying to scare me? Jumping down would look awful, but do you think I’d look any better if I didn’t jump? If that matter comes to light, I won’t be able to survive in any circle, and it’s not something that can be solved by you and me leaving here! This circle is too small; without any connections, I must clear my name!”
He started getting agitated again, even the leg that had missed its footing was straining: “Do you know how hard I’ve worked these past few years, how difficult it’s been? I haven’t had a girlfriend, do you know why? Because I don’t want anyone to suffer with me, and I don’t want my kids to have to live a hard life! I’ve fucking had enough!”
“You Shulang, I beg you, please, for the sake of our mother who saved you and raised you, can you help me this once! If you don’t care about any of our past relationship, then I’ll have no choice but to jump off this cliff today!”
After hearing the threats, You Shulang turned around, rested his elbows on the railing, and looked at the vast sky in the distance, as if he were looking at a gentle face: “Zhang Chen, you keep mentioning our mother, but if our mother were still alive, she would never agree to what you are doing now.”
He slowed down his speech: “Everyone says our mom is silly, but she is the kindest and most insightful woman in the world. No matter how complicated things are, she can turn them into the simplest thing: the whole family should be happy together.”
You Shulang turned his head, looked at Zhang Chen’s hand gripping the railing tightly, and said indifferently, “Now I’m telling you clearly, I can’t fulfill your wishes.”
He continued, “If you really jump, I can’t stop you.”
Looking into Zhang Chen’s utterly shocked eyes, You Shulang continued calmly, “Over the years, our mother has been quite lonely on her own. This is a good opportunity for you to go and keep her company.”
“I don’t have much money right now, but I will definitely get you a spot next to Mom’s grave, and buy another one on the other side. I’ll come to find you after I’m gone. If Mom really blames me, I’ll kowtow to her and admit my mistake, and let her punish me however she wants.”
Having not smoked for a long time, You Shulang could no longer produce a spark. After saying this, he took a single puff, and his already gloomy expression was now tinged with frustration: “Hurry up and decide, Zhang Chen, everyone’s tired.”
The words carried far. From behind the crowd, someone let out a soft chuckle.
It turned out to be Shi Lihua.

A tall man stood beside him, hidden in the background, standing in a corner.

“You didn’t instigate it?” Shi Lihua asked, slightly surprised. “That’s strange.”
“But even after trying to jump off a building, he remained unmoved.” He clicked his tongue and shook his head slightly. “I’m afraid your Director You is truly beyond redemption.”
The man beside him visibly stiffened. A sickly glint appeared in his already deep eyes.
Her hand instinctively reached into her pocket and gripped his phone tightly…
