You Shulang rolled off Lu Zhen, took off the condom, and threw it into the trash can. He turned on his phone on the pillow and used the light to find the messy clothes lying on the floor. Then he half-sat up to grab the pants that were furthest away. His naked body emerged from the pile of blankets on the bed. He had broad shoulders, narrow hips, and a lean waist. Every movement he made exuded a sharp power. He was a perfectly pleasing male body.

He pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and only when he got closer did he see the colorful packaging. These were Fan Xiao’s cigarettes; the man had forced them into his pocket at the banquet the night before.

At that moment, Fan Xiao had just lit a cigarette when someone pulled him aside to offer a toast. The vice president offering the toast was known for his eloquence, spouting off about everything under the sun. Faced with his endless chatter, Fan Xiao showed no sign of annoyance, listening attentively with great interest and occasionally chiming in with a few words.

Out of respect, he held the cigarette but did not smoke it. Just as the vice president was taking a breath, he passed the cigarette in his hand to You Shulang next to him.

You Shulang found that Fan Xiao’s actions would always surprise him from time to time, such as how this newly lit cigarette had become a hot potato.

Although Fan Xiao didn’t smoke it, he lit it by biting his teeth, and there were still damp marks on the yellowish-brown filter.

You Shulang wasn’t sure if this was just a straight man’s casualness or if it was a deliberate act to prove their close relationship and thus elevate You Shulang’s so-called status.

He preferred the latter, because Fan Xiao’s previous display of gentlemanly conduct was exemplary enough to be selected as a textbook example.

In short, after hesitating for a moment, You Shulang took a light puff of the cigarette. The boneless, alluring fragrance once again enveloped his entire body, and the scent of perfume lingered in his mouth before he exhaled it.

“How does this cigarette feel this time?”

The vice president who had been toasting finally left with an empty glass, and Fan Xiao turned around and asked him a question.

“It’s alright,” You Shulang replied somewhat awkwardly, “It has a slightly intoxicating feel to it.”

A hint of delight appeared in Fan Xiao’s eyes, and he then stuffed the freshly unpacked cigarettes on the table into You Shulang’s pocket: “Try it out when you get back, maybe you’ll like it.”

Click, he pressed the lighter, and the bright blue flame illuminated the messy bed. You Shulang lit a Thai cigarette, and as he inhaled the smoke, he felt like something was missing.

“Oh, matches.” You Shulang chuckled, and for a moment he felt that lighting a cigarette with a lighter was a kind of desecration of cigarettes.

The young man beside her was still breathing slightly, and the glow of his cigarette illuminated the rosy cheeks on his face with a touch of allure.

You Shulang gently ruffled the young man’s slightly long hair, where the sweat had not yet subsided, proving just how intense their lovemaking had been.

“Are you feeling unwell?” he asked softly.

The young man’s soft hair swayed, and two fair arms stretched out from the edge of the blanket, pressing the thin blanket down to reveal his alluring upper body.

He leaned closer to the man, wrapped his arm around his lean waist, and said in a slightly hoarse voice, “I don’t feel uncomfortable, it’s very hot.”

You Shulang smiled and slowly rubbed his hair with his fingers.

“You seem really excited today. You usually don’t hit me this hard.” Lu Zhen looked down at the crisscrossing hickeys on his body and chuckled mischievously. “Looks like you’ve been really holding back for the past two weeks.”

“indeed.”

You Shulang held the cigarette between his teeth, a slight smile playing on his thin lips, the dim light illuminating his eyes and brows. Unlike his usual gentle demeanor, his eyes were now veiled with a melancholy, like that of a lonely traveler, whose soul’s solitude could be felt even amidst the bustling city.

The arms around her waist tightened, and Lu Zhen buried herself in the man’s embrace, trying to use her usual method to drive away the boundless loneliness.

“These past two weeks have been exhausting. Not only have I been running around doing gigs every day, but I also have to deal with those petty scoundrels. When I finally become famous, let’s see who dares to mess with me.”

After the excitement subsided, You Shulang was reluctant to speak, but he was also considerate of Lu Zhen’s feelings. He took off his cigarette and comforted him, “Some things are better left unsaid. The law of the world is that the strong prey on the weak. Before you become strong, you need to know how to protect yourself and conserve your energy.”

The person in his arms slowly hummed in agreement. You Shulang gave a doting smile, pinched the back of the neck of the person who looked like an ostrich, and asked, “Did you suffer any injustices outside?”

You Shulang stubbed out his cigarette, glanced at the young man through the wisps of smoke, then rolled over and pressed him deep into the soft blankets.

“As you wish.”

When Lu Zhen woke up again, it was already broad daylight. The bed next to him was empty, and when he reached out to touch it, it was ice cold. It seemed that You Shulang had been gone for a long time.

He scratched his messy hair, threw back the covers to get some water. As usual, he found breakfast and warm water prepared by You Shulang on the table, along with a note.

The warm water soothed his parched body. As he drank, Lu Zhen glanced at the words on the note; it contained only a few words, written in elegant and flowing handwriting.

“Zhenzhen, if you go to a party, take this card with you. You know the PIN. Shulang.”

Lu Zhen’s eyes were stung by the light steam from the warm water, and with red eyes, she muttered to herself, “Why do you know me so well? You know I’ll definitely go to that party. Yeah, why wouldn’t I go? It would be such a waste to miss out on resources for those lousy people.”

He pulled out the bank card from under the paper and held it between his fingers. His voice, which rang out alone in the room, was soft and nasal: “You don’t earn money easily either, I won’t be a big spender and waste my money on those people.”
