I Became the Lousy Side Top - Chap 108 Extra 3 - Our Family
Recently, Woohee started taking art lessons after school. He hadn’t realized how fun drawing on crisp, white paper could be. He’d made new friends at his academy, and even the teachers there were kind.
“Shall we have fun drawing again today?”
The teacher wrote the topic in big letters on the board.
[Our Family]
“Let’s draw our family! You can use any coloring tools you want. Your dad, your mom, a dog that you raised, younger brothers, older sisters – you can draw whoever you want!”
Woohee was a bit troubled. He didn’t have a mother or a father, just his older brothers. Was it okay if he only drew them? He approached the teacher and asked quietly.
“Teacher, can I draw just my brothers?”
The teacher, who already knew about Woohee’s family situation, nodded.
“Of course. They’re also part of your family.”
Only then did Woohee return to his seat and start sketching. The first person he drew was his eldest brother, Hyunjin. To Woohee, Hyunjin was the strongest and greatest person in the world, so he tried to do justice to him in his drawing.
Next was Hyeonu. His second brother was smaller than Hyunjin, but he was really smart. He always helped Woohee with his homework and played with him, so he worked hard on his picture as well.
Finally, he drew himself. Woohee thought of himself as the smallest, but the bravest. He had good physical education scores and was a great runner, and on the playground he could swing higher than anyone else. He drew some muscles on his arms, to make him look strong.
After drawing the three of them, the sketch was done. Now all he had to do was color it. But somehow it felt like something was missing from it. Woohee flipped the pages in his sketchbook and finally thought of one last person.
His uncle.
He was just as strong, cool, and kind as his brothers. Not to mention he was really good at cooking. Out of all the food he’d ever eaten, nothing beat the meals his uncle made. His fried chicken was the best! But if he drew him, what should he look like?
His old uncle had been slim and looked like an idol. But then that uncle had died, and a new uncle had appeared. Hyunjin had told him that he was actually the same person as his old uncle, and at first Woohee hadn’t believed him, but eventually he’d been convinced.
‘Because his food tasted the same.’
His personality was the same too. After hesitating for a moment, Woohee drew him as he looked now. With the four of them together, the page was now full.
‘Now, time to color.’
Woohee grinned and picked up his crayons. He used them to color the people, and used paint for the background. He was fully absorbed in his work – even when his friends came over to speak with him, he only answered back briefly. He wanted to complete his picture properly.
“Finished!”
Within two hours, his drawing was done.
“Is everyone done? Raise your hand if you need more time. Alright, good. Most of you are finished. Now, let’s dry our pictures well. Once they’re dry, you can frame them and take them home.”
Woohee found a suitable place for his sketchbook and set it out to dry. It would probably be ready the next day.
“Woohee!”
The voice of Hyeonu, his second brother, came from outside. It seemed like he’d come to pick Woohee up after his own taekwondo lessons had ended.
“I’m coming!”
He shouted loudly, then packed up his bag and left the art class. A few days later, he gave his drawing to Jaewoo and Hyunjin.
“This is Hyunjin, and next to him is Hyeonu, and then me, and then Uncle Jaewoo is here!”
“Wow, Woohee, you’re so good at drawing!”
The flood of compliments made Woohee smile brightly.
“Look at the back too!”
“The back? What’s on the back?”
Jaewoo turned the picture frame over.
[Title: Our Family.
[Sunflower Class – Yoo Woohee]
Jaewoo’s expression wobbled for a moment, but he quickly recovered, smiling as he enveloped Woohee in a warm hug. He couldn’t express the indescribable emotions he was feeling.
“How about we have meat for dinner? Beef, how does beef sound?”
“That sounds great!”
“And let’s hang the drawing somewhere special.”
“Over there!”
Woohee pointed to a wall in the living room.
Woohee’s drawing was hung in a spot where everyone could see it. The four people standing side by side against a background of green trees gave off a warm, loving feeling. It was the very picture of a family.
