I Became the Lousy Side Top - Chap 86
Mujin spat out his cigarette, catching it in his hand before it could hit the ground. In a relaxed tone of voice, he drawled out.
“You think that’s possible?”
He’d already gotten what he wanted. Even though he hated Hyunjin for being the one Jaewoo liked, that was something he could deal with later. There was no need for him to incur Jaewoo’s hatred by touching him now.
Even though Jaewoo seemed ambivalent about him at best, there was no need for him to make things worse.
Hah. He could see the brat clenching his teeth. He knew that Hyunjin had always disliked him as well, but after needling him like that, his dislike had turned into hatred. But even if Hyunjin hated him, there wasn’t anything he could do about it.
Mujin held out his hand to Jaewoo.
“You made me a promise.”
Jaewoo’s eyes wavered, but it was only for a moment. He knew what he had to do. Jaewoo’s hand fell away from Hyunjin’s arm, and he slowly turned and started walking towards Mujin.
“Jaewoo!”
This time, Hyunjin was the one to grab hold of Jaewoo, forcing him to a stop.
“Don’t go.”
That short sentence was enough to shake Jaewoo’s resolve once more. Unfortunately, he knew better than anyone that his promise to Mujin could no longer be avoided. He slowly pried Hyunjin’s fingers off his wrist.
Seeing that, Mujin’s nerves faded slightly, his lips turning up in a small smirk. He passed the unlit cigarette off to one of his subordinates and took a step forward.
“Hyunjin, let go.”
An expression of despair fell across Hyunjin’s face. This was the sort of drama that Mujin loved to watch. People liked to say that the world today was cruel, but Mujin had often come across people like this while doing his job. People who were willing to sacrifice everything for the ones they loved.
And when he found them, Mujin took great pleasure in separating them and destroying them. The excitement he felt from completely ruining someone couldn’t be matched. That was the same feeling he was experiencing now.
He’d separate the two of them, and win the body of the person he loved. What a joyous day this was.
Mujin’s sharp eyes softened as he looked at Jaewoo. Some people might think him evil, but as long as he got what he wanted, he didn’t care.
“The deadline has already passed.”
Jaewoo didn’t delay any further. He put on his shoes and exited the RV to stand in front of Mujin. Hyunjin leapt out after him, not even bothering with his own shoes, but was forced to stop as Dongsoo suddenly appeared in front of him.
When Dongsoo blocked his path, Hyunjin instantly threw a punch at him. He never would have done that in the past. The impact of his time as a gangster could be seen in small things like that. Mujin smiled at the sight.
“Shall we go?”
Mujin asked, his grip on Jaewoo’s hand tight.
“Yes.”
The two of them walked forward, leaving Hyunjin behind.
Jaewoo thanked God that the kids weren’t here to see this. At least they would be spared that pain.
“Don’t go!”
Hyunjin’s voice rang out behind them, but Jaewoo couldn’t hesitate, no matter how much he wanted to. He had to fight back the urge to stop, turn around, and run back to him.
‘But I can’t do that.’
Mujin had treated Jaewoo gently all this time, but he knew what a terrible person he was. If he broke his promise now, he didn’t know what he might do to Hyunjin and the kids. All he could do was keep walking forward.
His steps were heavy, as if he was having to force his feet off the ground.
‘I don’t want to go.’
He felt like a thick stain was crawling its way up his body.
‘I don’t want to go.’
The tears he’d been holding back began to flow down his cheeks. If he’d been rich enough, or powerful enough, would things have been different? Why did he have to possess such a lousy side character?!
He felt like his heart was breaking.
“Tsk.”
Mujin clicked his tongue when he saw Jaewoo’s sorrow, but Jaewoo didn’t have the fortitude to worry about him just then. He stood there frozen, the tears pouring down his face as he choked back his sobs.
“Stop crying.”
Mujin spoke in a voice that was used to being obeyed. Despite that, Jaewoo couldn’t seem to stop.
“What are you doing?”
Mujin swiped his hands roughly over Jaewoo’s eyes, wiping away the tears.
“Stop crying!”
Jaewoo knew that he needed to stop. If he cried any more, Mujin’s mood would just get worse. He wiped the sleeve of his shirt over his face, using it to soak up his tears.
Between the blurriness from his tears and the shirt sleeve, Jaewoo didn’t notice the figure staggering towards him until it was right in front of him. Even Mujin, who would normally have been on guard, only realized someone else was there after he’d already collided with Jaewoo.
The man’s shoulder rammed into Jaewoo hard. For just a moment, Jaewoo caught a glimpse of his face before the other man scampered away, looking almost delighted.
‘Yoo Junghyun…?’
He should have been in police custody. Why was he there? Jaewoo could think of only one person with the power to free him: Eunjoon. There wasn’t anyone else.
It was only now that Jaewoo began to feel something hot running down his stomach. He looked down and saw blood soaking through his clothes. Dazed, he thought to himself that he wished he was wearing a jacket. At least his shirt was dark enough that Mujin hadn’t noticed yet.
Jaewoo grabbed hold of Mujin’s wrist and asked frantically.
“I’ve fulfilled my promise to you, right?”
Mujin frowned at the sudden question.
“What, now?”
“Answer me, please.”
There was something coating the back of his throat. Jaewoo had to swallow hard to keep from coughing. It looked as if the stab wound hadn’t been a clean one. Bad luck, he supposed. Although when had his luck been anything but bad?
“Alright, sure. You’ve fulfilled your promise.”
“Then you won’t touch Hyunjin or the kids, right?”
“Yes, like I told you.”
“And you absolutely won’t go back on your word, you promise?”
“Yes, yes. I’ll make sure no one bothers them, so stop asking. More importantly, why are you so pale?”
Mujin frowned as he looked down at Jaewoo, whose face had gone bone-white. Jaewoo didn’t have the strength to hold on any longer. He opened his mouth with a gasp and blood spewed out of it. Only then did Mujin realize what had happened. He quickly looked him over and discovered the stab wound.
“What the fuck is that?!”
Mujin immediately laid Jaewoo down and pressed his hands against the wound fiercely.
“Ahh!”
Jaewoo let out a scream at the horrendous pain.
“Both of you! Get over here, now!”
Mujin called out for his subordinates, pressing on the wound with one hand and taking out his cell phone with the other. In his hurry, he fumbled the phone, sending it clattering onto the pavement.
“Fuck!”
Jaewoo had never heard him swear so much. Jaewoo looked up at Mujin through increasingly blurry eyes. His usual confident expression had vanished, and he looked anxious, with red, blotchy cheeks. Just then, Mujin’s men finally arrived.
Without them blocking Hyunjin, he’d been free to follow as well. He stared down at Jaewoo’s body blankly for a moment before falling to his knees next to him, mirroring Mujin’s pose.
“What can I do?!”
“Get my phone. No, wait – it’ll be faster to drive. Put pressure on the wound.”
Mujin didn’t bother explaining to Hyunjin how to apply pressure. He just grabbed Hyunjin’s hand, positioned it correctly, and told him.
“Push!”
Then he lifted Jaewoo into his arms. Hyunjin moved with him, still applying pressure. The two tall men surrounded Jaewoo, hurrying towards the car.
“Find the nearest hospital!”
“I saw one on my way here. It’s not far!”
“Then go there!”
Mujin contorted himself so that he and Hyunjin could both enter the car while keeping Jaewoo steady. Dongsoo leapt behind the wheel and the four of them peeled out, leaving Mujin’s other associate behind.
“It won’t stop bleeding!”
Hyunjin shouted, his face as white as Jaewoo’s.
“Take your hands off for a second.”
Mujin lifted up Jaewoo’s shirt and examined the wound. It wasn’t easy to get a good look at it due to all the blood, but he saw enough.
Dongsoo drove like a maniac, ignoring the traffic lights. However, before they could reach the hospital, a car came screaming up from behind them and pulled out in front before slowing down, trying to block their way. Dongsoo clenched his teeth.
“Sir, it seems like someone followed us.”
“They’re trying to stop us. Damn them!”
Mujin let out another curse. The only people that even knew he was coming here were Dongsoo and one other subordinate. Everything had been peaceful recently, so he hadn’t expected trouble. Now it turned out that someone had followed them.
“They keep getting in our way!”
Normally, Mujin would have come up with a plan to trap his opponents and destroy them, but right now time was of the essence.
“Avoid them at all costs!”
“Yes sir!”
Dongsoo faithfully followed Mujin’s orders. Even as the car swerved wildly, Jaewoo’s eyes remained closed. Mujin patted his cheek.
“Keep your eyes open!”
At those words, Jaewoo’s eyes fluttered open.
“Don’t fall asleep.”
Jaewoo glanced over at Mujin, surprised by the urgency in his voice. But his gaze soon turned towards Hyunjin, sitting on his other side. He muttered something. Hyunjin lowered his head, listening intently.
“…‘m sorry…”
Mujin also heard Jaewoo’s muttered apology. Even now, the only one Jaewoo had eyes for was Hyunjin. Mujin’s stomach twisted, and he felt like he was going to vomit, but all he could do was endure. He couldn’t afford to lose his cool, no matter what.
‘I forbid you to do this to me now.’
Jaewoo had finally fallen into his hands; he couldn’t let him go so easily. Mujin clenched his teeth. Meanwhile, thanks to Dongsoo’s capable driving, the car finally arrived at the hospital. Dongsoo quickly got out of the driver’s seat and opened the rear door.
“We’re here!”
Mujin got out first, then turned and carefully pulled Jaewoo out with Hyunjin’s help. Luckily the hospital was a large one. The two of them hurried into the emergency room, Jaewoo cradled in their arms.
“We need a doctor!”
Seeing two men wearing blood-soaked clothes calling out for a doctor, the nurse looked over in shock. However, despite her surprise, she quickly sprang into action.
“Place him down over here!”
As soon as Jaewoo was on the gurney, a doctor came running over. Whether they’d made it in time or not, none of them knew.
“You can take your hands off now!”
As soon as Hyunjin and Mujin stepped back, Jaewoo was surrounded by a crowd of medical workers. One of them asked the two some simple questions, but once those were answered, there was nothing more for them to do. Now everything was up to the competence of the doctors.
