Limited Possession - Chap 4
After Tu Yan’s comeback, there were a continuous number of topics; everyone was discussing where Tu Yan had gone in the past six months.
Some said he went abroad to pursue further studies, while some guessed that he had health problems and was going through recovery. What’s more, some even said that he was pregnant with the film emperor Qi He’s child and was hiding in a private luxurious maternity care center to take care of the fetus.
Tu Yan put down his phone. He looked at Qi He, who was reading a script beside him, and made a throwing up action, “Can you not disgust me?”
“You think I want to?” Qi He replied with a roll of his eyes, “The Gu family sent their greetings to my boss asking to control public opinion within a week and don’t allow anyone to know about your secret marriage. My boss didn’t have any other choice so he could only drag me out to take the bullet.”
Hearing the two words “Gu family”, Tu Yan didn’t say anything else. Bored from doing nothing, he flipped open the script beside him, and suddenly furrowed his brow, “A teen film again?”
He debuted from a teen film and his role also had a strong sense of youthfulness. He was tired of acting in so many of these films, so he didn’t want to shoot them again.
“What’s wrong? Teen films aren’t good?” Qi He was in a flowery shirt, the collar opened to reveal his pectoral muscles, emitting the smell of special luxury perfume worn by alphas like a peacock in courtship. He turned around to look at Tu Yan, his tone sounding like he needed a beating, “I want to be in a teen film too. Too bad my temperament is too overbearing to act as a poor student. Ai, I really want to transform too. Acting too many times as a powerful president of a company and a noble son is also really tiring.”
Tu Yan was too lazy to even roll his eyes. He lowered his head to read the script. Qi He then said, “Oh right, are you and Gu Chaocheng’s brother really divorced? He just let you go without pestering you?”
Gu Chaocheng was Gu Chenbai’s older brother, the president of Hua Sheng, known to all as the utmost powerful person in the market.
Tu Yan’s hand flipped a page lightly, “Mn.”
“That’s really strange. What does that cripple man want? Just to spend a few hundred million to buy you for half a year?” Qi He shook his head incomprehensibly, then he looked Tu Yan up and down in suspicion, “Does he have any special hobbies? My god.”
“Can you not call him a cripple? He has a name.”
Without noticing Tu Yan’s frown, Qi He continued to immerse himself in his imagination, “But it’s scary to think about it. In the last film I acted in, the murderer was an ordinary-looking cripple.”
Qi He continued to speak until he thought of worse things. He thought of those perverts that often appeared on the news who would lock up ignorant omegas in the basement, or those kinds of chaotic parties that rich people’s circles would often throw… QI He’s face seized into a panic for a moment. He organized his words and asked implicitly, “Tu Yan, did you suffer from any grievances?”
Tu Yan was speechless, “No. Can you shut up now?”
“Don’t worry. Tu Yan, don’t be scared. If you really did suffer any grievances, I’ll help you restore your justice even if I become bankrupt! Tell me the truth, did that cripple bully you at all?”
Tu Yan was silent, his mind racing through many images from the past six months. His nose suddenly turned sour.
Bullying; where did the bullying come from?
Qi He was filled with righteous indignation for a long time. Only when his fire had extinguished did he hear Tu Yan whisper with his head lowered, “It seemed that I was the one who bullied him from start to end.”
The first sentence Tu Yan said to Gu Chenbai after living in the Gu family’s house was: I don’t like you, and I don’t want to marry you either. The relationship between us before makes me disgusted, extremely disgusted.
When Tu Yan said this, Gu Chenbai had just taken out the wedding ring that he had meticulously designed. He was just about to open it, but as he heard Tu Yan’s words, he silently kept it away.
The smile on the corners of Gu Chenbai’s lips froze a little, but he didn’t forget his manners, still as gentle as before, “I’m sorry, I’ve been too abrupt.”
Tu Yan glanced scornfully at Gu Chenbai’s cane, his words filled with thorns, “Just get married then, it’s just a piece of paper, I don’t care. Besides, marrying a cripple is something quite new. I’ve acted in so many films, but I still haven’t tried this role yet.”
Gu Chenbai’s expression remained unchanged, smiling as he said, “It’s an honour to participate in your new script.”
Tu Yan punched the cotton directly, releasing all the hateful words. His resentment was suppressed in his throat as he glared at Gu Chenbai in shameful embarrassment. He couldn’t help but ask, “Why do you want to marry me?”
Gu Chenbai helped Tu Yan cut the sneak, then placed the knife down. Unperturbed, he said, “Because I like you. To be exact, it was love at first sight.”
Goosebumps broke out all over Tu Yan’s body. He said in detestment, “Are you sick?”
He thought that Gu Chenbai was joking and even thought about the marriage life in the future that could make him feel sick. His heart surged. As a result, he pushed Gu Chenbai onto the sofa and started taking off his own shirt, giving up on caring, “You like me? Come on then, I’ve already been bought by you anyway. Do whatever you want, then let me go once you’re done, okay?”
Tu Yan debuted at nineteen years old. Within the last four years, countless people had both explicitly and implicitly thrown olive branches at him, but he had blocked them all out. For this reason, he had lost many opportunities and suffered many unfair treatment, holding out until the end with great difficulty. When he received his first Best New Actor Award and the path to being a star had began to turn bright, fate played such a big joke on him—due to being on the verge of bankruptcy, his father, Tu Feihong, desperately needed funding to fill up vacancies, so he found the wealthy Gu family.
Hearing that the second young master of the Gu family had a serious leg condition and had not married, Tu Feihong brought up the idea of marriage. Initially, it was to make every possible effort, but who would’ve thought that the Gu family had unexpectedly agreed.
Such an absurd marriage made Tu Yan’s clean and pure self-discipline from the past few years turn into a joke.
The last button was too tight and he couldn’t undo it.
His whole body was trembling and shivering, his vision blurred.
He thought about his parents; about his father bowing respectfully when he sent Tu Yan to the Gu family, about his mother saying “I understand” without a care when he got married, about how everyone thought he was still God’s favourite, about how his fans liked to call him the star in the night sky, and how so many people were looking forward to his new projects.
But he was about to fall.
He felt something pitter patter on his hand. Glancing down, he saw that it was tears.
He cried.
Suddenly, a faint cedar fragrance hit his face. Gu Chenbai picked up the neatly folded thin blanket by the sofa and spread it over Tu Yan’s body, then lifted Tu Yan’s arm, which appeared strong but was internally weak, and helped him fasten the button on his chest without a word.
After wrapping Tu Yan up, he apologized, “I’m sorry. If I could, I hope that we can meet in a simpler way as well, I’m too selfish.”
With tearful eyes, Tu Yan looked over hazily. Seeing Gu Chenbai’s helpless hands and his eyes filled with affection, Tu Yan cried even more.
It would be better if Gu Chenbai was a bad person, if he were as ugly and as treacherous as the rumours have said.
That way, Tu Yan could hate him completely and unreservedly.
–
“Fortunately, you’re finally free now.”
Qi He breathed a long sigh, “I had a particularly deep impression of the message you sent me when you got married. You said that others’ marriage is just the grave of love, but you helplessly watched yourself get buried alive.”
Tu Yan was so embarrassed that his whole face was covered with black lines, “How could I have possibly said such pretentious words?”
“It’s the night you were drunk when you just got the certificate and sent me a voice message in the early morning. I still keep it.”
Tu Yan humiliated himself. He immediately pushed Qi He to delete it.
“Why would I delete it? It’s so well said, I even cried after listening to it. After that, I’ve been using your words to constantly remind myself that if I can’t get married, then I can’t get married. If one day I die a natural death and scatter my ashes into the sea, I wouldn’t bring a single thing to the grave of marriage!”
Tu Yan hesitated, “Actually, if you meet someone suitable——”
Speaking halfway, he suddenly realized that he didn’t seem qualified to say these words.
“Hm? What did you say?” Qi He asked.
Tu Yan waved his hand, “Nothing.”
As the two of them were chatting, Tu Yan’s phone suddenly rang. His manager called to ask him to send over some recent pictures of his natural face for the producers of the new film.
Tu Yan didn’t really like to take selfies, so he asked Qi He to casually take two for him. Qi He was a selfie king and self-proclaimed as the alpha who takes the best selfies in the fashion industry. How could he be willing to just make do? Tu Yan only heard the shutter sound going ‘click click’ an infinite number of times in a few seconds.
“That’s enough. Aren’t you bored?”
Qi He scrolled through Tu Yan’s camera roll and carefully selected, “What do you know? This is called details that determine your success or failure.”
As a result, his hand slipped and flipped through a few more, “Wait, wait, it looks like I just scrolled past a handsome guy.”
Tu Yan hid his phone against his body, holding it tightly.
“Not letting me see? I’ll post that picture of you wetting your bed on Weibo right now.”
“You!”
Qi He held his own phone with his fingers and scrolled through it. This trick was proven to be effective every time. Succeeding in his trick, he stretched his other hand towards Tu Yan’s face, “If your fans knew that you still wet your bed at two and a half years old, your image will be gone okay.”
Tu Yan wanted to secretly delete the picture, but before he could touch the power button, Qi He reached out his arm at the right time and snatched the phone. The screen just so happened to remain on that picture.
“What the fuck, he’s really my type!”
Qi He zoomed it in with two fingers, admiring it carefully and praising as he tutted, “Such refined temperament, his contour is so exquisite as well, one could tell he’s the noble son from a good ancestry. Wah, even his fashion is good, looks like he’s very gentle…”
Listening to this, Tu Yan inexplicably felt suffocated in his heart. He originally wanted to fool him, but after listening to Qi He’s words, he was a little upset and refuted, “How is it so exaggerated? There are plenty of people in the entertainment industry who are better looking than him.”
“Not many people in the entertainment industry have the kind of temperament like he does. Tu Yan, tell me honestly, what’s his full name?”
Tu Yan said dispiritedly, “…Gu Chenbai.”
“Who?”
“Gu Chaocheng’s brother.”
Qi He’s eyes widened. He became silent for a full minute, then shouted loudly, “H-h-how is that possible?? Didn’t the rumours say that he-that he’s ugly and a crip…”
Tu Yan thought: I had this reaction when I met Gu Chenbai for the first time too.
Then, Qi He suddenly slapped the table, startling Tu Yan. As he was about to curse at him, he heard Qi He ask, “How are you willing to divorce such a high-grade person?”
Tu Yan was stunned. He asked himself: That’s right, why?
He thought of a convincing answer: Because his signed agreement with Gu Chenbai was due, which stated that they would get a divorce when it expired. At that time, in order to force Gu Chenbai to sign this agreement, he tried his best to think of a plan, even using seduction.
Who would’ve thought that so many unexpected events would happen later.
