Lovely Allergen - Chap 39
When he sent the message, Le Zhishi was still in the classroom. He was so excited that he secretly used his phone for the first time while the teacher was still at the podium.
He didn’t even hear the reason why the break was brought forward in the morning.
In the classroom, the students were excited about the early break. The head teacher emphasized again, “The rainstorm warning this time is red. It’s the heaviest rainfall of the year so far. Students should try not to leave the school. Safety first …”
Le Zhishi’s heart was on WeChat. He thought he would have to wait for a long time, but Song Yu’s reply was faster than he expected.
[Brother Yu: It’s raining today. Don’t come.]
Le Zhishi frowned. He wasn’t satisfied with his reply.
[Le Zhishi: That won’t do. I took the job last night. If you don’t come to see me, I’ll go to your laboratory building.]
After replying, Le Zhishi looked up and saw that everyone was packing up to go home. He put his phone in his pocket and quickly packed his bag. His phone was on silent. Le Zhishi only remembered it when he left the classroom and got on the bus. He opened it and saw that there was indeed a reply two minutes after he sent the last message.
[Brother Yu: What time?]
There was another line below, one minute after this one.
[Brother Yu: I’m going to the laboratory now. There’s a batch of newly collected data to process and model. Let me know in advance when you’re almost there. I’ll come out to pick you up. Remember to bring an umbrella. Be careful.]
Song Yu was usually quiet, but sometimes he was very clear, even if Le Zhishi didn’t know what the work was.
Le Zhishi read the message silently. It felt stiff, so he replied to Song Yu with an emoji of a puppy nodding. It made their conversation seem much softer.
[Le Zhishi: I’ll be there at 6 pm.]
He didn’t want to tell Song Yu that he was taking the early break. He wanted to give him a surprise. Even if Song Yu wanted to study, it didn’t matter. He could sit next to him and not disturb him.
It was good to see him in advance.
When he got home, Lin Rong was transferring the boiled soup into a thermos. She had heard that Peiya had an early month-long break. She said that the school was kind, but she was a little worried about letting Le Zhishi go to W University.
After Le Zhishi changed his clothes and came downstairs, Lin Rong said, “What if there’s a rainstorm on the way there in the afternoon? It’s not safe to take a car. ”
Le Zhishi had changed into a hazy blue short-sleeved shirt and a pair of black jeans. His entire body seemed to have long arms and legs, and he was so fair that he seemed to be glowing. He held a black baseball cap in his hand and sat at the dining table. He picked up a small piece of cantaloupe with a fork and stuffed it into his mouth. “Then I’ll take the subway. It’s a direct route anyway, just a little slower.”
“How about I go?” Lin Rong was still worried. “I’ll drive there first and then go to the high-speed railway station from W University.”
“No, it’s too troublesome. You only took the high-speed railway because your flight was canceled. What if the high-speed railway is delayed too?” Le Zhishi forked a big piece of cantaloupe and reached out to feed it to Lin Rong’s mouth. “Aunt Rong, don’t worry. It’ll be fine.”
Le Zhishi added, “And I’m going there early. It’s only 10 pm now. I can have lunch at my brother’s place. I haven’t eaten in W University’s cafeteria yet.”
Lin Rong thought that it was a good idea. She put the thermos into the bag in her hand. “Have you discussed it with your brother?”
Le Zhishi nodded, but didn’t tell Lin Rong about the surprise. “He said he’ll pick me up at the entrance.”
“Your brother, too. It’s good to go home.” Lin Rong squatted down and opened the oven door. There was a hint of complaint in her voice. “Last year, he went home once every three months. After the winter break, school started and he hasn’t been home since.” Lin Rong had prepared the cantaloupe and fresh flower pancakes specially for Song Yu’s roommate.
“Maybe he’s too busy. They say that some majors are even scarier than the third year of high school.” Le Zhishi helped her pack the cantaloupe into a box and put it in her schoolbag. Both cantaloupes were made with gluten-free flour. He tasted a piece when he packed the cantaloupe. It was delicious. The cantaloupe and hot cantaloupe were especially fragrant.
After dividing the cantaloupe and cleaning up the kitchen, Lin Rong let down her curly hair. “I don’t think so. Maybe this guy has a girlfriend and is busy with her at school. He doesn’t want to go home.”
Le Zhishi was carrying his schoolbag. When he heard this, he was stunned for a moment.
Lin Rong liked to joke about children, but she never took it to heart. She immediately forgot about it and changed the topic faster than anyone else. “It’s okay to eat at school, but you must be careful not to eat anything inedible.” She put some nutritional supplements into Le Zhishi’s schoolbag. “Is it heavy? Or you should bring less. ”
“It’s not heavy.” Le Zhishi looked up at the clock. It was getting late. He turned around and urged Lin Rong to hurry to the high-speed rail station.
The two of them left the house together. Lin Rong sent Le Zhishi to the subway station. She put an umbrella in his hand and kept reminding him as if he was still a child. Le Zhishi smiled and said, “Why don’t you come with me? Don’t look for Uncle. Let’s go to W University together.”
Lin Rong was relieved. She smiled. “Then your Uncle is too pitiful. Okay, you should hurry and take the subway. ”
“Okay. Give me a video call when you arrive.” Le Zhishi sat in the escalator and turned around to wave at Lin Rong.
There were many people in the subway station. Most of them were students on vacation or people who came out to play on the weekend. Le Zhishi got on the train. He was lucky enough to find an empty seat at the side and sat down. In front of him stood a young couple. The boy was taller. He pulled the tab on his right hand and hugged his girlfriend’s waist with his left. The girl couldn’t stand steadily. Her arms were wrapped around her boyfriend’s waist and buried in his chest. She looked very attached.
As they were too close, Le Zhishi felt that it was a little impolite to look at them like this. Moreover, the girl was glancing at him intentionally or unintentionally. So Le Zhishi pulled down the brim of his hat and closed his eyes to pretend to be asleep.
He told his brain that he was pretending to be asleep, but Le Zhishi really did fall asleep. When he woke up again, the couple was no longer there. The people in the train hadn’t decreased at all. When the train stopped, it happened to be the station where he was going to get off.
There were many people. Le Zhishi immediately stood up. He carried his bag and a thermos and squeezed out of the sardine-like train. He rushed out at the last moment before the doors closed. Le Zhishi felt as if he had been reborn. It was as if he had swum back to the ocean from the canned fish.
He sat in the elevator and sighed in his heart that his luck was unbelievably good today. There just happened to be an empty seat. Luckily, he woke up when he reached the station. But when he walked to the entrance of the subway station and saw the waterfall-like rain, he was stunned for a second.
The old lady who had set up a stall at the entrance of the subway station looked up. She saw this beautiful boy touch her all over as if she had been stolen by a thief. Then she turned around in annoyance. She walked a few steps and turned back. Then she stood there in a daze facing the rain.
She asked tentatively, “Little handsome, do you want to buy an umbrella? It’s 15 yuan. It’s very cheap. This is the last one. ”
Then she got what she wanted.
Le Zhishi bought the last non-foldable transparent umbrella. After opening it, he was just about to leave when he saw the old lady with her head lowered. She was tidying up the wet cloth. On it were fresh gardenias and magnolia flowers. They were arranged very neatly with not much left.
Glancing at the rain, Le Zhishi stopped. He squatted down and asked softly, “Grandma, how much are these flowers?”
“You want to buy flowers?” The old granny was a little surprised at first, but soon began to introduce the price to Le Zhishi. She was wearing fresh magnolia flower earrings on her earlobes. When she spoke, she would shake them gently, emitting a faint fragrance.
The entrance of the subway station was crowded with people. Everyone was very busy and hurried. Not many people cared about the faint fragrance of the flowers.
“I want all of them.”
The old lady was grinning from ear to ear. She carefully strung the flowers together for him. “You want to give them to your girlfriend, right? I’ll string them up for you. They can be hung up. They’re very fragrant.”
Le Zhishi paid and smiled honestly. “I don’t have a girlfriend.”
“Aiya, that’s impossible. How can you not have a girlfriend when you’re so handsome?” The old lady put the flowers back into a transparent bag and handed it to Le Zhishi. “I sit here every day. You’re the most handsome young man I’ve ever seen.”
Le Zhishi was a little embarrassed by the praise. He helped her clean up the stall and urged her to go home, saying that the rain would last for a long time.
Seeing the old lady walk away with the old plaid umbrella, Le Zhishi left the subway station. He held the transparent umbrella that he didn’t need to buy and went to W University.
In high school, Le Zhishi would occasionally ask to see Song Yu during the holidays. However, he was basically rejected. He also knew that Song Yu was very busy and didn’t have time to play with him, so he didn’t take the initiative to disturb him. However, there was one time when Lin Rong came to see Song Yu. She brought Le Zhishi with her, but they didn’t even enter the dormitory.
Later, he became busier and busier, and his holidays became fewer and fewer. There was no suitable reason for him to come to W University.
The torrential rain didn’t stop. The raindrops hit the transparent umbrella and the sound was loud. The ground was already covered with a layer of water. Le Zhishi’s canvas shoes were soaked in a short time. W University was really too big. Le Zhishi felt dizzy as soon as he entered. He followed the map app and stopped a girl to ask for directions. Finally, he found the very hidden teaching building.
It was just past noon, and the sky was dark. Dark clouds covered most of the sky. He came so early. Maybe he could make it in time for Song Yu’s meal. Le Zhishi knew very well that Song Yu was very careless when it came to meals. He would forget to eat when he was busy. At this time, if no one rushed him, the possibility of him eating was not high.
He began to imagine how Song Yu would look when he saw him. He would definitely blame him for not notifying him in advance and messing up his plan. Then he would put on a reluctant expression and tell him not to do it again. Then he would take him to eat.
Le Zhishi quickly walked to the front of the building. He changed the thermos in one hand and used the other to hold the umbrella. His wrist was a little sore. When he changed the thermos, a gust of wind blew and the umbrella almost overturned. Le Zhishi raised his hand to steady the umbrella handle. The hat was blown away and fell to the ground, quickly soaked by the rain.
Le Zhishi wanted to bend down and pick up the hat, but the umbrella handle and the bag in his hand were too inconvenient. He was too tired. He stood in the same place, looked up, and sighed. Suddenly, he saw a familiar figure under the teaching building.
It was Song Yu.
There was no more coincidence than this. Just as Le Zhishi was about to call his name, he saw a petite girl walk out from beside him. The two of them were quite close. Song Yu held a black folding umbrella in his hand. The girl kept looking up at him when she spoke. She even stood on her tiptoes and talked non-stop. Song Yu would occasionally nod and give a short reply.
For some reason, when he saw him nod, Le Zhishi suddenly felt a sense of depression and anxiety. His subconscious mind came out and urged him to leave. The rain was very heavy. It fell on the umbrella and the ground. It was everywhere. There was nothing to hide from it.
Le Zhishi, who had been worried about the hat just a second ago, couldn’t care less. He turned around and used the umbrella to block half of his back. He quickly left the place and even started to run.
He could feel the rain on the ground increasing. His pants were already soaked in the rain. Although his upper body wasn’t drenched, the wet and cold water from the bottom seemed to wrap around him. It made Le Zhishi feel uncomfortable. In a panic, he ran out of a small path, trying to find a place to hide from the rain and sit down. He was indeed a little tired.
As he ran, his footsteps splashed water, making some noise, but it was quickly drowned out by the restless rain. More and more students gathered under the roof of the teaching building. They were discussing which cafeteria to go to for lunch.
“Song Yu? Are you still listening? ”
Song Yu retracted his gaze, but his brows were still furrowed. He half-heartedly apologized for being distracted. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay.” The girl smiled brightly and didn’t seem to mind. “We’ll discuss the rest in the afternoon. Let’s go eat first.” She felt that her invitation was very natural and unlikely to be rejected.
Unexpectedly, Song Yu took out his phone, lowered his head, and dialed a number. Then, he said to her absent-mindedly, “I have something to do. I can’t eat.”
“Huh? You’re not eating? ” The girl was stunned. She moved closer to Song Yu and found that his attention was no longer on her. He had even moved a little away from her.
She tried to change the way she put it. Her face showed a pleading expression, and her voice was very soft. “Then can you take me back to the dorm? I don’t have an umbrella. It’s very close. It’s just over there. ”
The rain was too heavy. Many of the surrounding students carried one another, sharing the same umbrella and quickly leaving the place. She stared at Song Yu. Seeing that no one answered the second time he dialed the same number, she thought that he didn’t hear her question and was about to ask again.
“I’ll lend it to you.” Song Yu handed the umbrella to the girl and rushed into the rain.
The girl held the umbrella and stood there in a daze. She didn’t understand why Song Yu was suddenly in such a hurry. He was so anxious that he threw the only umbrella to her and didn’t want to take her back first.
Obviously, she wouldn’t have guessed that all this was because of a similar and slightly possible back view.
Le Zhishi held the umbrella. He felt like a stray dog on a bumpy journey, dragged by the rain, and his steps were heavy. Unknowingly, he turned to a cafeteria. The hall on the first floor was very transparent with floor-to-ceiling windows, and the inside looked very clean. He walked up the steps, closed the umbrella, and went in.
When he found a seat by the window and sat down, Le Zhishi finally put down the things in his hands. His palms were red from the squeezing. He rubbed them, wanting to see if he had brought any tissues. In the end, he only took out his phone.
The screen lit up. There were four missed calls, all from Song Yu.
Le Zhishi was shocked. He suddenly remembered that because of his habit of going to class, he hadn’t turned on the phone until now. There was no reminder at all. He hurriedly picked up the phone and prepared to call back. Unexpectedly, the other party was one step faster and called. Le Zhishi was a little scared. He picked up the call with trepidation.
“Where are you now? Why didn’t you pick up the phone? “Song Yu’s tone wasn’t very good. It was very different from his usual tone. He sounded very anxious, as if he was angry.
Le Zhishi wanted to answer his question, but he really didn’t know where he was. He panicked and opened the call interface to look at the map. However, he was worried that he would miss Song Yu’s call. He could only stand up and ask a random person around him, “Hello, may I know which cafeteria this is?”
On the other end of the phone, Song Yu heard the passerby give a vague location. He immediately said, “Wait for me.”
Le Zhishi sat back down at the seat by the window. He looked down at the interface that had already ended the call. He placed the phone on the table. After two seconds, he picked it up again and turned it to vibrate.
Le Zhishi’s brain was dull. He lowered his head and stared at the red spots on his palms from the squeezing and the plastic bag that was soaked by the rain. He opened the bag and lowered his head to look inside. The flowers inside were still good and fragrant.
This scene was different from what he had imagined before he came. It was much more embarrassing. He began to feel that his good luck had slipped away again.
After a while, the phone vibrated again. Le Zhishi immediately picked it up and put it to his ear.
“Which floor are you on?”
Le Zhishi knew that he might have already arrived. He turned around to look at the door and explained his location to Song Yu. “I’m on the first floor, near the door. After you come in, turn right and you should be able to see me. I’m wearing …”
“A blue top,” Song Yu said first.
His voice became gloomy amidst the static. “Found you.”
So fast? Le Zhishi looked around in confusion, looking for Song Yu’s voice. Suddenly, he heard the sound of glass being knocked on from behind.
Knock knock —
He turned around and saw Song Yu outside. He was holding the phone and was soaking wet. There was only a layer of transparent glass that was blurred by the rain between them.
His bent knuckles were still leaning against the glass window. The small area of contact was also wet.
Unknowingly, Le Zhishi put his palm on it and covered his knuckles. But the next second, he felt that his action was too silly and wanted to take it back awkwardly.
But Song Yu was always one step faster.
He opened his bent knuckles and turned his palm over. Then, naturally, he put his palm on Le Zhishi’s palm.
“Why are you running?”
Song Yu stood in front of him, but his voice came from the phone. His tone was much more relaxed than before, which made Le Zhishi feel a little lost. But after he asked the question, he dropped his hand to his side and left for the cafeteria.
Taking advantage of the time when Song Yu couldn’t see him, Le Zhishi frowned and thought about how he had just run away. He couldn’t explain it. He hoped that Song Yu didn’t see him and was just guessing.
Without giving him too much time to think, Song Yu came in front of him and hung up the phone. His face was full of water droplets, his short hair and eyebrows were wet, and even his eyelashes were dripping with water. He should have been in a sorry state, but it gave him a strange and charming temperament.
No one wouldn’t like this face, Le Zhishi thought. He completely forgot why he was wet. He had brought an umbrella.
Song Yu asked again, “Why did you run away just now?”
“I didn’t run.” Le Zhishi was stubborn. “Look, I’m carrying so many things. Can I run?” He finally muttered, “I just got here.”
“Do you think you’re good at lying?” Song Yu raised his eyebrows as he spoke.
Although his tone wasn’t gentle, Le Zhishi could clearly feel that after seeing him, Song Yu wasn’t as anxious as he was when he picked up the phone. He slowed down and wasn’t as angry as before.
However, this change was too slight for a serious person like Song Yu. If it were anyone else, they might feel that there was no difference. It was more like Le Zhishi was thinking too much.
He stared at Song Yu’s dark pupils and struggled internally. In the end, he chose to admit defeat. “You saw me? That shouldn’t be. You didn’t see me before I turned around. “He was very sure of this. He even used the umbrella to block it.
Song Yu put his hat on the table.
For a similar back, he was drenched in the heavy rain.
This reason was too ridiculous, so he made up a temporary one.
“Your umbrella is transparent.”
