Mr. Dior - Chap 102
Meeting You Earlier (2)
In the afternoon, when kindergarten was over, the children stood in the garden, waiting for their parents to pick them up. Zhang Chenfei wriggled his way through a group of girls, ran to Jiao Yan, and held his hand.
Little Jiao Yan shook his hand away: “It’s not nap time now.”
“We are good friends.” Zhang Chenfei said confidently, “Good friends hold hands.”
Good friends?
Jiao Yan understood what it meant to be good friends and was a bit happy that he had a good friend on the first day of kindergarten. So, he accepted classmate Zhang’s logic: “Okay, then I’ll let you.”
Zhang Chenfei happily held the little prince’s hand and stretched his neck to see if his mom had arrived: “Is it your dad picking you up or your mom picking you up?”
“The nanny is picking me up.” Jiao Yan said as he watched the other children being picked up by their parents and slowly lowered his head to look at his toes.
“A nanny? Your family has a nanny ah. You must be really rich.” The little Zhang Chenfei didn’t quite understand what a nanny did exactly, but he remembered one time his dad had mentioned hiring a nanny, and his mom scolded him, saying where did they have that much money. So, he assumed that having a nanny was something expensive.
“Feifei!” Mama Zhang appeared at the kindergarten gate and waved to her son.
“Mom!” Zhang Chenfei ran over happily.
Jiao Yan looked at his suddenly empty hand and slowly clenched his little fist. He looked around, searching for the figure of the wooden nanny. As he looked, he couldn’t help but glance over at Zhang Chenfei and noticed that he was talking to his mom while pointing in his direction.
“Mom, that…”
“I understand, you want a little brother like him, right?” Ever since he started kindergarten, Mama Zhang had been annoyed to death by her son’s constant requests for a little brother or sister whenever he saw a beautiful child and he’d point them out to her.
“No, I don’t want a little brother or sister anymore. I want him.” Zhang Chenfei pointed to the prince in his small suit and said, “I want him to be my wife!”
Mama Zhang laughed and pulled her son’s ear: “Nonsense, he’s a boy.”
Just as they were talking, the nanny arrived. Jiao Yan was lifted up by the nanny, and after a moment’s thought, he waved to Zhang Chenfei.
“Hurry, say goodbye to him.” Mama Zhang gave him a little push.
“Goodbye Yanyan, see you tomorrow.” Zhang Chenfei grinned.
Jiao Yan lay on the wooden nanny’s shoulder and whispered: “See you tomorrow.”
After only one year in kindergarten, Papa Jiao hired a private tutor to provide preschool education for Jiao Qi, saying that the kindergarten didn’t teach enough. The tutor was a retired elementary school teacher, an affable grandmother. Jiao Yan reluctantly accepted the matter of studying at home.
But, there was no one to play with him anymore.
In the blink of an eye, he was in the second grade of elementary school. In the second half of the school year, the school decided to establish a bilingual experimental class and hired foreign teachers for it, which required an additional tuition fee. Papa Jiao, who had been doing well in business recently, didn’t hesitate to pay the tuition to enrol him in the experimental class.
Classes were redistributed, and many students in the experimental class were unfamiliar. Jiao Yan walked into the classroom with a small school bag on his back, found an empty seat and sat down, took out the homework assigned by his tutor and started writing.
“Jiao Yan?” Upon hearing someone call his name, Jiao Yan looked up and saw a shadow rushing over like the wind, taking a seat right next to him.
“Zhang Xiaofei.” As his only good friend, Jiao Yan naturally remembered him.
“So you’re also at this school! I hadn’t seen you before. If I had known you were here, I would’ve transferred to your class in first grade.” Zhang Chenfei danced excitedly. He opened his Ultraman backpack, took out a piece of milk candy, and handed it to Jiao Yan. “Here’s for you to eat.”
“I’m growing my permanent teeth, so I can’t eat candy.” Jiao Yan grabbed the candy and said, “You shouldn’t eat it either.”
“It’s okay to take one now and then. My mother gives me two every week.” Zhang Chenfei showed him the missing teeth area.
Jiao Yan couldn’t help but purse his lips and smile.
The experimental class only had a few students, with only around twenty students in a class, and no matter where you sit, it won’t really affect listening to the class. The teacher didn’t bother reassigning seats, so the two of them just like that became desk-mates.
The school bell rang at the end of the day, and Zhang Chenfei quickly packed up his backpack, waiting for Jiao Yan: “Where do you live? Let’s go together.”
“My nanny will come to pick me up,” Jiao Yan packed his schoolbag slowly and neatly organised all his books and belongings.
“Then I’ll wait with you at the gate for your nanny. I usually go home on my own anyway.” Zhang Chenfei said, pulling his hand as they walked towards the school gate.
“Da Fei——” Gao Shiqing rushed over like a bullet, grabbed onto Zhang Chenfei’s neck, and spun him around. “Let’s go, let’s play some games.”
“Not going, I want to go home and do homework.” Second grader Student Zhang tried hard to defend his image diligently.
“Pei, when have you ever done homework?” Gao Shiqing ruthlessly exposed him. As one of the few high-IQ academic Gods of the school, they were both members of the “Don’t Do Homework and Get High Scores Alliance”.
“Get lost, get lost, get lost!” Zhang Chenfei kicked him and pulled little Jiao Yan away from his unruly friend. They ran to the school gate and bought some spicy strips for Jiao Yan to eat.
Jiao Yan had never eaten this type of three-no food before, and he was quite curious, so he took a bite.
“Once it’s spicy, you blow twice.” Zhang Chenfei showed him, “s-shh, s-shh…”
The two children had red faces from the spiciness, and while they kept making “s-shh” sounds, they ate three spicy strips. However, the nanny had still not arrived.
“Is it still that wooden-faced nanny?” Zhang Chenfei had a deep impression of the livid nanny of the Jiao family.
“No, this one was just changed last semester.” Jiao Yan licked his numb lips and bought a bottle of drink to share with Zhang Chenfei.
Zhang Chenfei asked him to drink first, and after Jiao Yan drank it, he took it and drank up the half bottle left: “Everyone has left and she hasn’t come yet, I’ll take you back.”
“No, I can just go back by myself.”
“Be obedient, you are my wife, I will protect you.”
“Who’s your wife?”
“You promised me when you were a child, have you forgotten?” Zhang Chenfei said confidently, holding Jiao Yan’s hand firmly.
The Jiao family and Zhang Chenfei’s family were on the way, but it was slightly farther than Zhang family, so after dropping off his little wife, student Zhang would have to turn back to go home.
Jiao Yan’s home was in a high-end neighbourhood, the kind with an elevator. He knocked on the door, and the nanny was at home.
The nanny was a woman in her thirties. She exclaimed as soon as she opened the door, “Aiyou, you look at me! I was so busy cooking and lost track of time. I forgot to pick you up… Is this your classmate?”
“En.” Jiao Yan responded and then looked at Zhang Chenfei. “This is Auntie Luo. I’m home now.”
“The classmate is here, please stay and have a meal.” Aunt Luo warmly invited.
“Okay.” Zhang Chenfei was curious and wanted to go in and take a look, so he agreed quickly.
The nanny choked for a moment. She had never seen such an unreserved child. She forced a smile and let the two of them come in, then hurriedly started cooking, seemingly appearing very busy.
The interior decoration of the house was very nice, but there was a strong smell of oil.
It was Jiao Yan’s first time bringing a friend home, and he wasn’t sure how to welcome him, so they both sat on the sofa and he stared at him helplessly. Zhang Chenfei picked up the phone in the living room, called his mom, and told her that he was staying at Jiao Yan’s house for dinner, giving her the specific address.
“Okay, then you have a good meal. Mom will pick you up at eight o’clock.”
Luo Meixiang didn’t expect the child to be so impolite, but the food was already prepared, so she could only serve it. There were stir-fried bean sprouts, stir-fried potatoes, and porridge with steamed buns.
Sitting at the high-quality European-style dining table, Zhang Chenfei picked up a bite of the shabby bean sprouts and couldn’t help but frown: “Auntie, your cooking skills aren’t that great. My dad can make better food using chemistry equipment. Isn’t a nanny supposed to make really delicious food, considering how expensive they are?”
Why is this child so unpleasant? Aunt Luo turned pale and turned around, going to her room to watch TV.
Having encountered many adults who put on false affectionate adults, Zhang Chenfei naturally didn’t have a favourable impression. He whispered to Jiao Yan, “Why did your dad hire such a nanny, and the food is so terrible.”
Jiao Yan continued to eat without changing his expression and replied, “At least she’s willing to talk to me.” The nanny he had during kindergarten never spoke, and he was very scared.
The young Zhang Chenfei, not yet fully understanding the concept of empathy, felt a bit uncomfortable and said, “You can talk to me. Do you have a phone?”
“I do.” Jiao Yan said as he pulled out a lightweight child’s phone hanging from a cord around his neck.
Zhang Chenfei took the phone and saved a number, saying, “I don’t have a phone, so this is my mom’s number. You can call this one in the evening. Don’t worry, my mom knows you’re my wife.”
“……”
In the days that followed, Zhang Chenfei sent Jiao Yan to the gate of the community every day before going home.
One day, as they were walking together as usual, Jiao Yan stopped in front of a snack shop and said, “I’m not going home right now.”
“What happened?”
“Auntie said she won’t cook dinner tonight and asked me to eat outside.”
Hearing this, Zhang Chenfei became angry and said, “Eating out again? Why is this nanny acting like an uncle? How many times have you eaten out this semester?”
Jiao Yan lowered his head and didn’t say anything. He had a lot of pocket money, so sometimes he chose to eat out when he didn’t feel like going home. At first, it seemed enjoyable, but after a while, it started to feel a bit nauseating. Later on, the nanny found out that he was buying his own food outside and would occasionally tell him that she wasn’t cooking dinner.
“Let’s go to my house for dinner.” Zhang Chenfei took his little wife’s hand and took him home.
The Zhang family’s community wasn’t as high-end as Jiao family’s, and was an old neighbourhood without an elevator. Mama Zhang opened the door and was pleasantly surprised when she saw the two kids. “Yan Yan is here! Come on in.”
Mama Zhang had always been fond of this exceptionally good-looking child. She invited them to play on the sofa and brought a large plate of fruits for the kids to eat. Then, she called out to the kitchen: “Zhang Zhishi, we have a little friend as a guest at home, make something delicious.”
Papa Zhang popped his head out of the kitchen, took a look, and nodded: “Okay.” After estimating Jiao Yan’s height and weight, he recalculated the ingredients for dinner, took out a ruler to measure, and sliced a larger piece of pork belly.
The four dishes and one soup were prepared according to the recipe. Jiao Yan focused on eating and couldn’t say anything.
“Feifei, do you still want a little brother or sister?” Papa Zhang looked at the petite and adorable Jiao Yan and then turned to ask Zhang Chenfei.
“No, no.” Zhang Chenfei shook his head like a rattle-drum, “I don’t even have time to take care of Yan Yan, and so I don’t have time to coax another child!”
Papa Zhang and Mama Zhang looked at each other. Mama Zhang covered her mouth and smiled: “I don’t care, just listen to my son.”
Zhang Zhishi nodded and silently crossed out the plan to research easier methods for having children from his mind.
“Let Yan Yan live with us, and when we grow up, we can get married.” Zhang Chenfei said, anxiously looking at his mom.
“Pfft——” Jiao Yan choked on the soup.
Zhang Chenfei patted him on the back seriously.
Mama Zhang burst into laughter: “Hahaha, did you ask if Yan Yan agreed? You just said you want to marry him.”
Jiao Yan’s face turned red, but it wasn’t clear whether it was from choking or anger. He turned to glare at Zhang Chenfei.
“Ding ding ding” The child’s phone hanging from Jiao Yan’s neck rang, and when he took it out, it was a call from Papa Jiao. He was about to answer it when Zhang Chenfei suddenly snatched it away and swiftly hung up the call, turning off the phone very naturally and seamlessly.
“You brat, what are you doing!” Mama Zhang lightly slapped her son on the back of the head.
“If you feel wronged, you should tell your parents. Since the nanny isn’t picking you up or cooking for you, you can pretend to go missing.” Zhang Chenfei refused to return the phone to Jiao Yan even after getting scolded, and he earnestly advised his little wife with all seriousness.
“This isn’t a good idea.” Zhang Zhishi held his wife’s hand to stop her from beating the child further and explained slowly, “His parents will worry.”
Mama Zhang, who had heard her son mention the Jiao family situation before, couldn’t help but comment, “You didn’t care before, and now you do?” She was given a gentle wrist shake by Papa Zhang, realising that it wasn’t appropriate to talk about this in front of Jiao Yan.
“It’s alright, you two go and play. I’ll talk to him when his call comes again.” Mama Zhang took the phone back, turned it on again, and encouraged the two children to have some more food. After they finished eating, she allowed them to go to Zhang Chenfei’s room to play.
Zhang Chenfei happily and excitedly showed Jiao Yan around his room, pulling out a comic book for him to see: “I rented these from the little bookstore. It’s really good.”
“What’s this?” Jiao Yan took a look and, It was a bit old because it was rented. The flashy cover depicted a suit-clad guy holding a girl in a princess dress. It seemed quite out of place in a room filled with video game posters. He carefully read the title:
《The President’s Million Dollar Bride》
