Mr. Yuan is Always Unhappy - Chap 33
Edited by Yummers
Yuan Rui was telling Zheng Qiuyang a detailed description of what had happened at the dinner table with Yang Lu when Li Lingling called him. She was afraid that he was really going to give up this huge chance to ride Yang Lu’s fame.
“Send her a message right now and tell her that you were too overwhelmed tonight so you couldn’t react,” Li Lingling said. “She wanted to recognize you as her son in front of so many people, yet you hesitated to agree. She’s probably very upset right now. Act more humble and hug that leg firmly, it’ll bring you great fortune in the future.”
“…Oh.”
“What are you oh-ing for? Hurry up and message her!”
With the quietness of the house and combined with the loud volume of Yuan Rui’s phone, Zheng Qiuyang was able to hear every word without a problem. He watched the other standing there motionless for a bit after hanging up. Then, he couldn’t help but remind him, “Didn’t your agent tell you to message that Director Yang?”
“I’m a bit scared, I keep feeling like she’s going to reply to me with a math question.”
“…”
“Hahaha, wasn’t that funny?”
Zheng Qiuyang could only go along as he laughed, “Hahaha.” Funny my dick.
Yuan Rui was immersed in his corny joke for a while before he bit on his nail, saying, “This is such a big deal, my dad wouldn’t be happy if I didn’t ask him first. Plus, although Director Yang seems like a good person, I can’t possibly just address an outsider as my mother like this.”
Zheng Qiuyang didn’t really want him to accept the other as his mother either, but he still asked, “What if your agent asks you about it?”
Yuan Rui was troubled. He thought for a moment, then said, “Then I should text Director Yang, I’ll just be honest and not so humble like what Lingling-Jie said. I don’t want to hug onto her leg anyway.”
He sent a message to Yang Lu, saying that recognizing another as his godmother was a very important matter and that he would need to ask for his dad’s approval first.
Half an hour later, Yang Lu replied with, “Of course.”
Despite him saying that he had to ask Suo Jianjun first, calling his stepdad who’s always too busy for this kind of thing made Yuan Rui a little embarrassed. Coincidentally, Suo Yue just happened to have arrived in Beijing due to a university exchange activity in the following week. As one of the top students, she came as a representative, giving her the chance to come home.
She called Yuan Rui to ask if he was free on any of the weekends so they could all eat together as a family.
Yuan Rui had some errands on Saturday but was free on Sunday, so they scheduled to meet on that day. Yuan Rui planned to discuss the matter about Yang Lu with Suo Jianjun then.
He was going to attend a wedding on Saturday.
The groom was a high school classmate of his, they had a nice history together. Not long ago, he reached out to Yuan Rui after finding his contact information through other people. He hoped that a great celebrity like him could find some time to attend his wedding.
Yuan Rui was elated, he took half a day just picking out an outfit. This was his first time attending a classmate’s wedding, he kept to himself a lot during his high school years as those were his mom’s last days. He didn’t interact with his classmates much, but there were still some that he had a good relationship with, although they’ve all lost contact now.
Zheng Qiuyang helped him pick out an outfit. He looked at himself in the mirror, doubting his choice.
“You’re already handsome enough to steal the spotlight from the groom, let’s not keep going.”
Yuan Rui obliged cheerfully, “Then this will be it.”
Zheng Qiuyang watched him change as he asked vaguely, “Are your other high school classmates also going to be there?”
“The groom was in the student council and he’s doing pretty well right now, he’s a sociable person too, so probably every classmate who’s in Beijing will be there.”
“Mn.”
Once Yuan Rui was done with his clothes, he looked into the mirror as he used a hairspray.
Zheng Qiuyang spoke up again, “Do you want me to drop you off?”
“No need, Zhao Zhengyi’s going to be here soon.”
“Oh.”
Yuan Rui finished doing his hair, then looked in the mirror again. “Say, should I put on some makeup too?”
“…”
Yuan Rui answered himself before the other could, “Actually, no, I don’t want my classmates to think that I’m too girly.”
Zheng Qiuyang wanted to ask him if his first love was going to be there, but he couldn’t really ask, it’d make him seem like he cared about it a lot. But old high school romance always sparks back up during their classmate’s weddings. Although he knew Yuan Rui wasn’t that type of person…what if his first love was? What if Yuan Rui can’t handle the handsome persuasion?
The more his train of thoughts went on, the scarier it became. He almost wanted to simply rip Yuan Rui’s suit off and lock him up at home. Not only the wedding, but it’d also be the best if he didn’t go anywhere at all.
“If you’re going out with friends, don’t drink too much.” Yuan Rui just had to add salt to the wound as he continued, “My classmates planned to have a gathering after the wedding as well, I might be home late tonight.”
For a moment, Zheng Qiuyang’s features were all out of place as he forced himself to speak, “Around when? I’m not going out with friends tonight, I’ll go pick you up. It’s not like you can take Zhao Zhengyi to the gathering.”
Yuan Rui thought for a moment. “You’re right, but I don’t know what their exact plans are either. The groom only brought it up briefly during the call. We’re probably just going to do some karaoke and eat after.”
Zheng Qiuyang immediately imagined the dimmed lights in the KTV room with two old classic songs acting as the background music. It was truly the designated setting for old feelings to spark. If they eat together, there most likely would be alcohol. Yuan Rui could easily get drunk from accepting the other’s offers dumbly. By the time he’s awake, the other probably would’ve already taken all the advantages he could have.
Yuan Rui asked him, “Do you not want me to go? You’ve had a long face for a while now.”
Zheng Qiuyang let out a forced sound from his nose. “Hmph!”
Yuan Rui tried to coax him, “I’ll try to come home as soon as possible tonight, I’ll call you when it’s almost over and you can come to pick me up, okay?”
“What are you going to introduce me as when your classmates see me? That I’m also your assistant?” Zheng Qiuyang asked on purpose.
Yuan Rui responded a bit shyly, “I would just say you’re my boyfriend. My classmates already know that I’m gay.”
Zheng Qiuyang was shocked, “You came out that early?”
Yuan Rui rubbed his face, explaining awkwardly, “It wasn’t my intention to. When I wrote my love letter for Meng Lai, I didn’t have the courage to give it to him in person, so I slipped it into the booklet on his table. I was too nervous, so I didn’t realize that the booklet was the material needed for the class meeting. They didn’t realize there was an extra piece of paper when printing the copies either. So during the class meeting, all thirty-two of my classmates saw the love letter.”
“…”
Yuan Rui kept asking, “Will you go pick me up?”
Zheng Qiuyang was about to explode from anger. He straight up asked, “So is that Meng Lai guy also going?”
Yuan Rui replied like it was common knowledge, “Of course, he was the class president.”
“…”
Yuan Rui was shocked, “What is it? Your face is so white, are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
Zheng Qiuyang bursted, “Everywhere! Call Zhao Zhengyi and tell him not to come! I’m going with you!”
“…”
Zheng Qiuyang was even more aggravated as he asked, “Do you not want me to go?”
“I do, I do. It was just that Zhao Zhengyi said he’d never had food from a five-star restaurant before, he wanted to freeload on the food.”
“…”
Zhao Zhengyi had already borrowed a suit for the occasion, feeling jubilant. However, before he even stepped out of his door, Yuan Rui called to inform him that he didn’t need to go. In the end, he didn’t get to freeload on the five-star wedding menu. He stayed at home, feeling both sorrow and anger intertwining, his hatred for Zheng Qiuyang was about to be embedded into his bones!
What hasn’t the king of jewelry’s son eaten before? Why did he have to fight over a meal with him?! Is he shameless or what?!
Although Zheng Qiuyang did go, aside from Yuan Rui’s classmates, there were many other guests there who were the bride and groom’s close friends. After all, Yuan Rui was a public figure whose fame had been increasing lately. He couldn’t just hang around Yuan Rui all the time to show ownership.
He dropped Yuan Rui off at the restaurant’s front door and watched him go in before getting out of the car as well. He pretended to be a close friend of the newlyweds, he gave them a red pocket, then walked into the wedding hall boldly.
Yuan Rui was seated at the VIP table in the front, currently surrounded by some other female guests wanting to take pictures with him.
Zheng Qiuyang found a table at a corner to sit at. He didn’t pay attention to others, only silently waiting for his rival to appear.
By the time Meng Lai showed himself, there were already many guests in the wedding hall. However, he was taken to the VIP table very quickly. Only the seat beside Yuan Rui was vacant, who knows if it was intentionally left open by their classmates. Meng Lai walked up to the empty spot very naturally. Yuan Rui stood up with everyone else, but Meng Lai landed a hand on his shoulder and patted him, motioning him to sit back down with a smile. Somehow, the two looked rather intimate.
Zheng Qiuyang had heard some things about Meng Lai from Fang Shiqing before, so he made sure he was mentally prepared beforehand. Still, upon seeing the actual person in real life, he was almost pissed half to death when he saw Meng Lai. Just comparing their height alone, he’d lost completely.
