Mr. Yuan is Always Unhappy - Chap 39
Since Bai Tu had just finished filming a movie, he was going to be on break for a while. At the same time, the filming for Yuan Rui’s TV show wasn’t going to start until next month. Thus, when the two had nothing to do, they would go to the supermarket or the mall together. Yuan Rui even went to his apartment to give the two chow chows a shower once. The closer they became, the more Yuan Rui pitied Bai Tu. One time when he went to Bai Tu’s place, he saw with his own eyes the scene of Bai Tu finding a pair of underwear under the sofa mat. Bai Tu felt very awkward, while Yuan Rui had no choice but to act blind.
Thinking about how organized and clean Bai Tu liked everything to be, that underwear definitely wasn’t his. Then, it must be Liang Xi’s. What could Liang Xi have done when Bai Tu wasn’t home for his underwear to get under there? Just thinking about it had him get angry on Bai Tu’s behalf
One time when he came to play video games with Bai Tu, Liang Xi came home with a dusted face, who knows if he was filming or something. Yuan Rui forced himself to greet him, but the look that Liang Xi shot back was a mix of both dislike and cautiousness. Maybe it was due to obvious tension in the air, Bai Tu quickly pushed Liang Xi into the bedroom to change. Bai Tu came out after a rather long while. His top that was all buttoned neatly earlier had one button undone, his lips were also unusually red.
Yuan Rui was very sad. He put down the game controller, said goodbye to Bai Tu, and then went home.
He thought that Liang Xi must’ve remembered what happened last time when he saw him doing the vicious deed of bringing Wang Chao home to play. That was probably why he gave him such an attitude. But he didn’t have the heart to tell Bai Tu. His male god seemed to be so far gone into Liang Xi’s manipulation. He didn’t even seem mad when he found the pair of underwear underneath the sofa mat, instead, he seemed a bit shy when he saw it.
His male god didn’t have any friends either, he had a simple life. He always holed himself up at home when there was no work, and he’s probably never been in a romantic relationship before. Liang Xi was pretty handsome and seemed very intelligent on shows, he knew what to say and how to persuade people. That was probably also how he tricked his male god into this relationship.
Yuan Rui’s heart was about to break over his worries for Bai Tu, but he couldn’t tell anyone else about this either. His heart ached for his male god every time he thought of it, he was about to form an internal injury from keeping it in at this point.
Ever since Zheng Qiuyang found out that Bai Tu was a bottom, he hadn’t been showing any obvious signs of jealousy over him like he used to. However, he would still occasionally roll his eyes and hmph when Yuan Rui told him about their interactions.
Ever since Mom Zheng talked to them about moving to her house last time, there hadn’t been any commotion for a few days after. Yuan Rui didn’t question it either, if she didn’t want to live with them, then it was fine wherever he lived. Zheng Qiuyang simply found moving to be too troublesome so he never brought it up either.
In the end, Mom Zheng came in person.
Zheng Qiuyang was home alone eating the pizza he ordered while Yuan Rui was attending a charity dinner, hosted by a fashion magazine company.
His mom had specially dressed up before coming, but in the end, only her son was there to see it. She immediately got a bit irked and said, “See? Why did you decide to date a celebrity? He doesn’t even have the time to stay home to share a meal with you.”
Zheng Qiuyang whined in Yuan Rui’s place, “It’s not always like this, usually he would already have dinner cooked by the time I’m back. I told you before, his cooking is good.”
Mom Zheng walked to the kitchen to take a look and saw that he wasn’t lying. She turned to inspect the fridge as well, nitpicking as she went, “Look at how messy it is in here, he doesn’t even know to tidy up.”
Zheng Qiuyang spoke up, “It’s only messy because I was looking for the ketchup earlier.”
Mom Zheng turned to side-eye him. He could only reply, “I’ll tell him to clean it up once he’s home.”
His mom also wanted to go into their bedroom, he quickly blocked her. “Mom, there’s nothing to see here.”
But his mom was determined on going in no matter what. “What is it that I can’t see? What have I not seen? Move!”
Zheng Qiuyang could only move aside.
Honestly, they didn’t have anything that needed to be hidden in the bedroom either.
The bed was clean and tidy. Yuan Rui would change and wash the bed sheets and blankets often. A few jewelry magazines were placed on top of the nightstand, and on the other side was a stack of comics.
Mom Zheng looked around, then went to the closet.
Zheng Qiuyang was completely speechless. “Mom! Are you raiding or what? Why do you have to look at everything, what’s there to see in the closet of two men?”
Mom Zheng finally didn’t persist this time. She glanced at the nightstand, speaking with disdain, “He still reads these picture books as a grown adult?”
Zheng Qiuyang didn’t respond, he knew that no matter what he replied with, it would be wrong.
At the scene of the charity dinner, Yuan Rui was currently having a conversation with someone at his table. The hosts placed the stable guests of The Sparkling Friends at the same table, and everyone was comfortable enough with each other so the atmosphere wasn’t awkward at all. They were all conversing happily with each other, not bored at all.
The Taiwanese artist sat next to Yuan Rui as she said to him, “Our show has quite the recognition in Taiwan too. I have many friends who’d like to meet you, they think you’re super interesting.”
Yuan Rui was glad. “Really? If I ever get the chance to travel there, I’ll definitely treat you guys to a good meal. I heard that the authentic grass jelly there is awesome.”
The two talked about Taiwanese cuisine for a bit until the girl suddenly said, “There’s a handsome guy over there who keeps looking at us, do you know him?”
Yuan Rui followed her line of vision and met eyes with the other person. The person smiled at him and walked towards them.
The girl’s young heart combusted. “He’s so tall! Also, very handsome!”
But Yuan Rui was unsettled.
He didn’t think he’d run into Meng Lai here.
A few days after the friend’s wedding, he called him and said that he’s finally done with all the after matters; he wanted to invite the whole class out for another meal. Yuan Rui found an excuse to get out of this event as well, he didn’t want to see Meng Lai and have to endure the awkward atmosphere. Plus, Zheng Qiuyang wouldn’t be pleased either.
He was originally worried about how he should deal with Meng Lai if he called, but thankfully, he didn’t.
As Meng Lai walked up to their table, all the others looked up at him. Yuan Rui had no choice but to stand up and introduce him, “This is my high school classmate, he works within the media.”
Everyone gave Meng Lai friendly smiles as he reciprocated it. Then, he said, “Yuan Rui, can we have a private chat?”
Yuan Rui thought, Can we not? Can’t we just talk here?
Meng Lai’s expression clearly told him no, so he forced himself to agree, “Okay.”
He and Meng Lai walked to the other side of the banquet hall. His eyes darted all around the room, not daring to look at the other.
Meng Lai said, “Don’t be so nervous, it’s not like I’ll do something to you.”
Yuan Rui thought, Yeah, you won’t do anything to me, but my boyfriend will if he finds out.
“When Zhang Yangqing invited everyone out to eat last time, did you not go because you wanted to avoid me?”
Yuan Rui lied against his conscience, “No, I just happened to have work.”
Meng Lai didn’t persist to question either. “That’s good then. I didn’t dare to contact you privately either, you might overthink it and assume that I’m scheming something.”
“……”
Meng Lai smiled. “I do still like you, but you said that your boyfriend treats you well. I’m not that boring of a person, I’m not going to get in between you two when I know you two are in a good relationship.”
Yuan Rui replied with a sluggish expression, “Oh.”
Meng Lai raised his hand, he probably wanted to rub his head, but his hands retreated halfway into the action. “I don’t have anything else to say, just wanted to clear this up with you. You should go to the class gatherings in the future, they’ve all liked you since our school days. They miss you a lot too, especially after so many years of no contact.”
“Mn.”
Meng Lai joked with him, “Don’t be unwilling to meet your old classmates just because you’re famous now.”
Yuan Rui instantly shook his head, “I wouldn’t. Plus, I’m not that famous.”
Meng Lai laughed. “When there’s a gathering again, I’ll notify you.”
“Okay.”
Meng Lai stared at him for a while, he said, “Let’s go, the event’s about to start.”
Yuan Rui nodded. He turned to leave, then turned back again to look at Meng Lai.
“What is it?” Meng Lai asked.
Yuan Rui held it in, but he finally couldn’t help it anymore as he asked, “You say you ‘still’ like me? Does that mean you’ve liked me since back then?”
Meng Lai smiled. “Yeah, since back then.”
“…”
“Don’t ask too many questions, anyway, it was my own fault.”
Yuan Rui thought, Yeah, that’s exactly it! If he liked him back then, then why did he reject him three times? He originally wanted to console Meng Lai, but now he felt like Meng Lai deserved this, he didn’t even want to tell him that he was at least a good person.
Meng Lai urged him on, “Hurry on back, I heard that they’re doing a raffle where you have to get a number first.”
Yuan Rui didn’t know about the raffle so he was surprised. He loved raffles the most! He always reposted these raffle-related stuff on his Weibo side account, the only thing was that he’s never won a single one. But sooner or later, he will! May the Koi King bless him!
He really couldn’t set his mind on anything else now. He immediately ran over to get a number.
Meng Lai walked out the side door and took a smoke before going back in. Yuan Rui had already gotten his number. He had his hands together, praying that he’d win a prize.
Meng Lai looked at him from far away, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
However, the Koi King did not bless Yuan Rui, he didn’t win anything. The Taiwan girl won a box of chocolate though. She shared it with everyone else but upon seeing how disappointed Yuan Rui was, she decided to give the rest to him, along with the box itself. She played it off, saying that she was on a diet and couldn’t eat them.
Yuan Rui finally felt relieved, he went home holding the chocolate box.
“The Koi King must’ve placed the blessing off. I was sitting right next to her, only a few centimeters apart. Even our numbers were next to each other.” Yuan Rui held his own wrist in aching pain, “I’ll definitely win next time!”
Zheng Qiuyang was speechless. “……”
Yuan Rui unwrapped two pieces of chocolate to feed him, asking, “Did you only eat two slices of pizza for dinner? I saw a bunch leftover, is this store’s pizza bad?”
“It was alright. My mom came.”
Yuan Rui was shocked. “She came in?!”
Zheng Qiuyang pulled out his chain of keys from his pocket, “She came to deliver the key. The one to her house. She said it’s all cleaned up and we should move there as soon as possible.”
Yuan Rui looked around, feeling like the house was somehow very messy today. He asked nervously, “Should we move?”
Zheng Qiuyang was very troubled, he asked back, “Do you want to move? I think it makes no difference if we move or not. My mom just thinks that since this place was rented to you by the company, it’s embarrassing for her if I live here.”
Yuan Rui thought about it, he said, “Then let’s move, or else she’ll be upset again.”
“…”
Still, he didn’t let out the latter half of his mom’s words: “Stupid child, if you guys break up while living here, you’ll be the one dragging your luggage out of the door. If it’s at our house, then it’s him who has to scram!”
Yuan Rui was already taking mental notes on how to pack everything up. He stood in the middle of the living room, eyes rolling here and there.
Zheng Qiuyang walked up to him and he wrapped an arm around his waist as he also looked around with him. “Then let’s move, but let’s not live at my mom’s place, we have our own home.”
“…Ah?”
“I mean my house, do you think it’s too small?”
Yuan Rui shook his head.
Zheng Qiuyang smiled, “Then it’s decided. My mom’s too troublesome. Plus, that house was bought with my dad’s money, in case one day…anyway, we have our own home, there’s no need to freeload off her.”
Yuan Rui’s eyes widened, asking, “We have our own what?”
Zheng Qiuyang didn’t comprehend his reaction. He simply repeated, “Home.”
Yuan Rui hugged him tightly, exclaiming in joy, “I love you!”
