Mr. Yuan is Always Unhappy - Chap 9
Edited by Yummers
Zheng Qiuyang finally managed to get his mom in bed, then drove home at lightning speed. He arrived at the door at eleven forty-seven.
It was completely quiet inside. There were candles spelling out, “31” on a cake with a huge bouquet of roses on the side.
He walked to the bedroom door to see Yuan Rui sitting on the bed with his legs crossed. He was watching Conan on a tablet, eyes widened with an agitated expression, he was extremely immersed in the cartoon.
Zheng Qiuyang called out to him, “Yuan Xiao Rui.”
Yuan Rui seemed like he was jump-scared when he lifted his head.
Zheng Qiuyang continued, “There are only ten minutes left, are you still going to celebrate my birthday for me?”
Yuan Rui quickly closed out of the video and tossed the tablet aside. He nodded. “Yes yes yes.”
Zheng Qiuyang tried to entertain the other. “Give me an order of jianbing guozi, here we go! Friends over on that side, let me see your hands!”
“……”
Zheng Qiuyang laughed.
Yuan Rui jumped down to the floor and ran over barefoot, not caring about putting on his slipper. He was shocked as he said, “What happened to your face?”
Zheng Qiuyang grinned. “My dad’s wife scratched me, it doesn’t hurt.”
Yuan Rui held his face in his hands, looking closely at the scratch on his right cheek that was near his chin. He furrowed his eyebrows and said, “Good thing that it isn’t too deep, it probably won’t become a scar. Why did she scratch you?”
“She got physical with my mom, I was accidentally injured when trying to block them.”
Yuan Rui got even closer, he pouted his lips to blow on the scratch. “It wasn’t right for her to get physical with your mom. This is all your dad’s fault, they should both team up to rip him apart. Why should women trouble each other?”
“……”
“……Sorry. This is a matter between the elders of your family, I said too much.”
Zheng Qiuyang sighed. “There’s no need to apologize. All three of them combined wouldn’t even be as mature as you.”
“I think there are still bandaids at home, do you want one? I’ll go get it.”
Zheng Qiuyang grabbed his hand, he smiled. “No need. Don’t waste time, hurry up and celebrate my birthday with me.”
Yuan Rui lit up a candle and sang him Happy Birthday. Zheng Qiuyang made a wish in a sincere manner, then blew all the candles out with one breath.
Yuan Rui took out a gift box from the drawer on the side. “Happy birthday, this is for you.”
Zheng Qiuyang asked him with a smile, “What is this?”
Yuan Rui spoke with anticipation, “Open it and see.”
Zheng Qiuyang was full of anticipation as he took apart the ribbons on the gift box. This was the first gift he’d been so excited over since his coming of age.
Inside the box was a fleshlight.
Zheng Qiuyang said nothing.
Yuan Rui introduced the product to him, “This is a large, you’ll definitely be able to use it.”
Zheng Qiuyang held onto the fleshlight as he exploded, “Why do I have to use this?!”
Yuan Rui answered, “When I’m away shooting films or shows and can’t be at home, this can be very handy.”
Zheng Qiuyang spoke angrily, “Then why didn’t you just buy me a blow-up doll? That’d be even more handy.”
Yuan Rui spoke awkwardly, “The good quality ones are too expensive.”
“……”
Yuan Rui added on embarrassingly, “Plus, most of the models were female.”
“……”
Zheng Qiuyang looked at his watch, then finally spoke, “It’s already past twelve. You know what wish I made earlier?”
“???”
Zheng Qiuyang said, “I wished that we could stay together forever, just like tonight.”
Yuan Rui was very touched. “I also…”
Zheng Qiuyang continued himself thought, “But I didn’t think tonight’s ending was going to be like this, it disappointed me a lot.”
“……”
Zheng Qiuyang crossed his arms. “You have to make it up to me now.”
Yuan Rui thought for a moment then expressed his prompt suggestion, “Then, how about I buy another doll for you?”
“……”
Yuan Rui looked at him with a slight pink tint on his face. He spoke carefully, “I can be your doll, is that okay?”
Zheng Qiuyang couldn’t hold back his smile. “Yuan Xiao Rui, you finally understood.”
Seeing that he’d accepted the offer, Yuan Rui let out a breath. “Sigh, dolls really are too expensive.”
Yuan Rui —who’d rather use his own body than spend money— got his chest rubbed very roughly that night. When he left for class the next day, he sullenly stuck chest pasties onto his chest again.
The box was almost finished.
Ever since he accidentally saw Tomas fighting with his boyfriend, he hasn’t seen him around. When they saw each other again, Yuan Rui already forgot about the awkwardness. He greeted enthusiastically, “Did you just come? Our class already ended.”
Tomas had a subtle expression. “My class already ended. I came here today for some other business.”
There were two film studios at the top of the building where the acting classes were held at. Since he wasn’t there for his class, he most likely came to talk about a collaboration.
Yuan Rui spoke honestly, “That’s pretty good. I heard that the productions from both studios make great sales.”
Zhao Zhengyi coughed loudly, trying to discreetly tell him to not act so familiar again.
Yuan Rui stopped talking.
Yet Tomas spoke up, “That’s about it. I heard that Yuan-Ge got a role in a web novel adapted live action recently. A very popular IP, the viewing rate will probably sky-rocket.”
Yuan Rui was flattered by his surprising comment; that was the longest sentence Tomas had ever said to him.
Zhao Zhengyi cut in, “Tomas, didn’t you say you have some business? You should hurry on your way, we have to go too.”
Tomas glanced at Yuan Rui before saying, “Right, see you next time.”
Once he walked far enough, Yuan Rui spoke excitedly, “He said such a long sentence to me!”
Zhao Zhengyi said nothing.
Yuan Rui continued happily, “He must’ve realized that I’m a fan of his.”
Zhao Zhengyi took out his phone to send a message, not saying a word.
Yuan Rui was still immersed in excitement. “What do you think he’d say if I ask him out for a meal? Maybe we could become friends. Right, the Japanese cuisine restaurant I ate at the last time gave me a voucher, it’s going to expire soon.”
Zhao Zhengyi still didn’t reply.
Yuan Rui saw him being focused on sending messages with his head down, so he tried to make it less awkward by talking to himself. “But we aren’t from the same company, that probably won’t be good then.”
Zhao Zhengyi put his phone in front of him. “Yuan-Ge, look.”
On the screen were messages sent by someone named ‘Xie Zhuxing’: “His boyfriend called Wang Chao already, he’s not an outsider.”
Yuan Rui was puzzled. “Who’s Xie Zhuxing? What does this mean?”
Zhao Zhengyi said, “And you still call yourself a fan. You don’t even know his actual name?”
Yuan Rui briefly remembered that Tomas’ surname was Xie, but he still didn’t get it. “Whose boyfriend called Wang Chao? What does that mean?”
Zhao Zhengyi kept silent for a moment.
He was close to jumping now. “You! Your boyfriend!”
Coincidentally, a few others who attended the acting class walked by.
Yuan Rui put on a serious tone. “Right, right. This type of emotion, the teacher said it can be expressed more explosively on stage.”
“……”
The others walked past them.
Yuan Rui’s face paled from fright when he said, “My boyfriend?! I- I- I don’t have a boyfriend.”
Zhao Zhengyi had the words “Who are you trying to lie to?”, plastered across his face.
Yuan Rui felt that he’d been exposed, so he could only tell him the truth awkwardly, “Lingling-Jie said I’m not allowed to tell.”
Zhao Zhengyi was silent yet again.
Suddenly, Yuan Rui’s mood was picked up again. “Tomas said that I’m not an outsider, does that mean I can ask him out to eat?”
Zhao Zhengyi finally spat out the thought he’d been holding in, “Aren’t you afraid that Mr. Zheng will get jealous?”
“He knows I like Tomas.”
Zhao Zhengyi staggered and almost fell over.
