My Little Poplar - Chap 96
Manager Xu opened the safe in the house with a sullen face, there was a cabinet of weapons, he grabbed a Type 92 pistol and threw it to Bai Xinyu, “Here, here’s one for you to get used to.” He took one for himself and the men walked out together.
Bai Xinyu gripped the heavy pistol with all his might, feeling a sense of security and exhilaration he hadn’t felt in a long time, he pinned it to his back and followed him.
He went outside, there was a confrontation between the Louji gang and the Botswana border police outside the base, it was after three o’clock in the morning, the two sides had been at loggerheads but were safe for the time being, if there was a confrontation at a time when they should be asleep, it must have been premeditated by one side to strike when the man was at his most exhausted.
Manager Xu bellowed: “Quick, move our staff to the basement, get the interpreter over here.”
A few men crept to the door, outside the big metal door, the police and the Rogues were shouting, speaking in a language they did not understand. The interpreter soon came out, he was in a cold sweat.
“What are they saying?”
“It’s too far away, can’t quite make it out, it’s like they’re arguing about who shot first.”
“Fucking bullshit.” Manager Xu cursed: “I don’t know how this is going to end.”
“Huh? What’s going on? Did the police pull out?” Bai Xinyu stared up, his eyesight was excellent, he could see the other man’s movements even in the darkness.
“What?” Manager Xu exclaimed: “The police have really withdrawn?”
They had just finished speaking, when they saw two police cars drive away down the road in front of their door, without even turning on their headlights.
Da-Hui said through clenched teeth: “The police may have been bribed, they’re always bribing going on here.”
Bai Xinyu couldn’t believe it, “Shit, they just left us behind?”
“This is the border, it’s not very populated, what really happened, it could take days for the public to find out, if the police are trying to cover it up, it’s even more problematic.” Manager Xu grabbed one of the security officers and said, “Get back to the Embassy with our information immediately.”
“Yes.”
Da-Hui said: “Brother Xu, what do we do now?”
The Louji were coming towards their gate, there were at least 40 or 50 of them, all armed and their territory was seven or eight kilometres away, reinforcements could arrive at any moment, if they fought, even if they managed to kill this group, they would be in a trap and the base station would not be saved.
Manager Xu has dealt with a lot of emergencies and is still calm, wanting a peaceful solution. He stood in front of the iron gate, said hello in the language of the Rogues and then dragged the interpreter over, asking what they wanted.
The Louji demanded access to the base, to view almost half a month of CCTV footage and to search for other evidence.
Manager Xu stresses that there are a lot of trade secrets on the base, they can hand over the CCTV footage but don’t want the Rogues to enter the base.
After the police leave, the Louji men were very aggressive, almost to the point of pulling out their guns.
There was a stand off for about five minutes, Manager Xu knew he couldn’t afford to lose out, so he opened the door and let them in.
