My Perfect Enemy is Finally Broke Novel - Chap 29
As soon as this was said, the living room went quiet for half a minute, leaving only the background music of the game to play.
Qin Man thought for a while before he spoke, “Does your butt hurt again?”
Ji Ran, “…Your butt hurts, your whole family’s butt hurts.”
“Then how did I provoke you?” Qin Man asked innocently.
Ji Ran threw the file into his bedroom, then came back out. He sat down on the carpet and continued to play the game.
Qin Man sat next to him and undid his tie slowly. “Take your medicine.”
“Can you stop acting in front of me, I didn’t add this to the package I bought.” Ji Ran said.
Qin Man laughed, “It’s a bonus service.”
“I don’t need it. If you continue to make a fuss, I’ll return you.”
Qin Man nodded, “Okay.”
After saying so, he stood up and went into the bedroom, closing the door behind him.
He really left? Was it really a bonus service?
With a dark expression, Ji Ran beat the enemy on the screen to death.
That night, Ji Ran took a bath early and went to sleep. Due to the inflammation in his throat, his body temperature was higher, and he was finally woken up after having several nightmares.
He opened his eyes with much difficulty and looked at the person in front of him, asking angrily, “…What are you doing?”
Only then did he realize that he could no longer speak out loud. His words were barely a whisper.
Qin Man pressed a palm against his face, his expression serious. Then, his face tensed as he touched Ji Ran’s forehead.
“You were talking in your sleep.”
Qin Man said as he sat up, “You’re running a fever, let’s go to the hospital.”
Ji Ran looked at the time and pulled the quilt over his body. “It’s three o’clock, what’s the point of a hospital? Not going… I want to sleep, don’t bother me.”
Half a minute later, his quilt was lifted. Qin Man had changed into his regular clothes. “Either you get up by yourself, or I will carry you.”
“I said I’m not going.”
As soon as he spoke, Qin Man took action. He forcibly picked Ji Ran up and grabbed some clothes from the closet to put onto him, wrapping him up tightly.
Ji Ran instinctively stretched out his hand and raised his leg while cursing, “Once I get better, I will teach you a lesson. Put the clothes on properly, don’t touch me… These clothes are out of season, I don’t want to wear them. Did you hear me? ”
Qin Man patiently helped him get dressed while thinking, if this person said fewer words, he wouldn’t be as ill as he was now.
He knelt by the side of the bed and stared at Ji Ran, “I’ll ask you again. Do you want to go by yourself or should I carry you?”
Ji Ran looked down at him for a few seconds.
“I’m a big man, I don’t need you to carry me.” He said and looked away, “… Stand up and support me.”
A sick person tended to be sleepy. Ji Ran endured the heaviness on his eyelids and watched the scenery outside the car window.
3 a.m. in the middle of the night. The streets were empty.
Qin Man drove fast, causing Ji Ran to glance at the speedometer. “You’re not afraid of having your points deducted??”
“I’m afraid,” Qin Man said, “but my points haven’t been deducted much, so it’s okay to occasionally have some demerits.”
“…Is this a bonus service or a fee-based service?” Ji Ran asked, “I’ll say it beforehand, but I won’t pay the fine. Don’t dream of having me pay for it.”
Qin Man raised a hand and pressed the back of his hand against Ji Ran’s face. “I won’t, don’t worry.”
Ji Ran’s fever was a little high, so the doctor put him on a drip.
He leaned back on the chair lazily, watching the needle slowly penetrate his skin.
“Your throat is inflamed. You should eat less fried food and drink more water these days.” The nurse carefully helped him fix the needle and asked the person next to him, “Are you his friend?”
Qin Man answered, “Yes.”
“These medicines are best taken after meals. How about you buy him something to eat? There are two porridge shops nearby that are open 24 hours.”
“I don’t want to eat.” Ji Ran muttered.
The nurse, “…”
Qin Man reassured her, “I’ll take care of him. Thank you for your help.”
After the nurse left, Qin Man sat next to him and squeezed all the medicine into a medicine box. “Eat it.”
Qin Man actually didn’t force him to eat porridge? Judging from his previous temperament, Ji Ran thought he would at least say a couple of hypocritical words no matter what.
Ji Ran stared at the medicine box and suddenly said stiffly, “I want to eat porridge.”
Qin Man raised his eyebrows. “Didn’t you say you didn’t want to?”
“I want to eat it now, can’t I?” Ji Ran asked, “Are you buying or not? If not, I will order takeaway on my own.”
As soon as Qin Man walked out of the injection room, he heard the nurse from earlier chatting with a colleague.
“Look, that handsome young patient has a bad temper.”
“Really? How bad?”
“Just… he’s very rude when talking to his friend and doesn’t seem easy to get along with. Although his temper is a little bit bad, he looks good and has easily identifiable blood vessels. If you really like him, you can go for it.”
“He doesn’t have a temper.”
Qin Man interrupted their conversation, causing the nurse to turn around, her face flushed. “I…I didn’t mean that, sorry…”
“It’s okay.” Qin Man smiled, “He just doesn’t feel well. He’s usually good to me and his friends.”
“That makes sense…” The nurse quickly changed the subject, “Are you leaving?”
“I’m going to buy him some porridge.” Qin Man smiled impeccably and continued with a natural tone, “His girlfriend is busy and couldn’t come, so I’ll take care of him.”
The other nurse’s face changed when she heard the word “girlfriend”.
“In that case, go quickly.”
After Ji Ran ate some porridge, his stomach became warmer and he felt much better.
He took the medicine, looked at the drip hung above his head, and said, “It’s almost done, can you tell the nurse to come and remove the needle.”
Qin Man didn’t move. “It’s only half the bag.”
“I don’t want to sit here anymore. I’ve taken the medicine, so just a few hours of sleep is enough.” Ji Ran urged, “Hurry up.”
“Finish it.”
Ji Ran’s head was spinning and didn’t have any energy left to argue with him. He leaned back, intending to sleep in the chair for a while.
“Xu Lin has worked under Ji Wei for many years,” Qin Man suddenly spoke up. “Although he’s only an assistant, he has been involved in Ji Wei’s projects, and is basically the same as Ji Wei’s confidant. Are you really comfortable with allowing him into your department?”
“None of your business.” Ji Ran closed his eyes and asked mockingly. “Since you seem to know Ji Wei’s assistant so well, what, are you his half-brother?”
Qin Man laughed, “It’s not just Xu Lin, I have checked all of Ji Wei’s staff, didn’t I show them all to you?”
Ji Ran had only glanced at the information in a hurry and didn’t have time to read it carefully. “Oh, I thought Ji Wei panicked after Xu Lin came over to my side, and asked you out for some suggestions.”
“Suggestions?” Qin Man paused and quickly understood, “Are you talking about the matter this afternoon?”
Ji Ran replied, “No.”
Recalling how he saw Yue Wen Wen in the restaurant, Qin Man explained, “I made an appointment with a friend in the afternoon, and just happened to meet Ji Wei after our discussion. He said he wanted to talk about the class gathering, so I couldn’t refuse.”
Ji Ran muttered, “…No one is interested to know who you met this afternoon. Don’t bother me, I want to sleep.”
It was close to five o’clock when he left the hospital after his drip finished.
When he finally got home, Ji Ran walked into his room tiredly. All he wanted was to lie on his bed and get a good night’s sleep. He didn’t care about anything else.
Qin Man went to fetch the medicine from the car. As he locked the door and was about to walk in, his sight coincidentally fell onto a very conspicuous pink paper ball in the trash can.
Every time Ji Ran was here, he wouldn’t stay long. That was why even though Qin Man had been here for many days, he had practically never seen any rubbish in the trash can.
His gaze was pulled back to it several more times. As he was about to leave, he seemed to see a black dot in the corner of the paper ball.
Like an exclamation mark.
Ji Ran was awakened by the ringing of his phone the next morning.
It was Xu Lin. He woke up instantly and remembered having made an appointment with the other party.
Just as he was preparing to get out of bed, a force unexpectedly pressed him down. A hand suddenly appeared on his shoulder. The other person pressed him back onto the sheets and touched his forehead with the other hand.
Ji Ran’s fever had subsided a little and his strength had returned. He slapped the stray hand and pushed the person away, “What are you doing?”
“Checking to see if your fever has gone down.” Qin Man retracted his hand, and turned to lie on his side. “Who called?”
“Xu Lin.”
After Ji Ran washed up, he saw that Qin Man had also changed into a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans. He finally resembled a young man.
“Do you want to have breakfast before going to see him?” Qin Man asked.
Ji Ran finished combing his hair, “I’ll eat later.”
Qin Man nodded. “Then I will go wash up. If you are ready, you can go to the car and wait for me.”
Ji Ran paused. “You’re going too? I’m going to discuss work, what are you going for?”
“Let’s not talk about the previous terms.” Qin Man walked into the bathroom, “We still have an employment contract between us, so I think I am qualified to be present for work matters.”
Ji Ran thought about it, and figured he wouldn’t understand anything the monk Xu Lin was preaching anyway. Bringing Qin Man along would be like having a useful memo.
“Whatever.” He changed into his clothes and walked out. “Be quick.”
Ji Ran entered the garage. Just as he was about to get in the car, he suddenly remembered something.
He turned back, walked towards the trash can, and squatted down abruptly.
There was only one black plastic bag in the trash can and nothing else, not even a speck of dust.
?!
It shouldn’t be.
He searched around the trash can for a long time with a frown. He squatted and thought for a while. As he was about to look for it again, he suddenly heard footsteps outside.
He quivered and quickly stood up, patting the dust off his body.
Qin Man walked into the garage, and when he saw him standing near the corner, he raised his brow: “Why are you still standing here?”
“No reason.” Ji Ran walked to the car.
Qin Man looked around. “Are you looking for something?”
“No, I’m checking to see if Auntie is cleaning properly.” Ji Ran started the car, “Are you getting in?”
Xu Lin was a little surprised when he saw Qin Man, but he quickly controlled his expression and extended a hand to Qin Man. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Qin. I’ve been looking forward to meeting you for a long time.”
“Hello.” Qin Man shook his hand, “I often hear about you, too.”
It was just like a couple of businessmen talking.
Ji Ran crossed his legs and listened in disgust. He picked up his phone and sent a WeChat message to the cleaning lady to ask if she had come over in the last two days.
“I thought I would have to wait until I joined the company before getting a chance to see you. Actually, there are a lot of work-related matters that I would like your advice on. Now, I finally have a chance to speak to you.” Xu Lin said.
“No need to be courteous.” Qin Man smiled, “I’m living at Ji Ran’s house now. If there’s anything you would like to ask, you can simply ask him to pass it on.”
“Can’t you two just exchange numbers? Can you afford to have me pass on your messages?” Ji Ran didn’t even bother to look up.
Xu Lin froze, feeling that there was something hidden in his words.
Half a month ago, Ji Wei had lost his temper in front of him many times over Ji Ran and Qin Man’s relationship. He’d even sent people to investigate.
He investigated, but it was all clean. Apart from schoolmates, they had no other interactions.
Qin Man didn’t care. He took out his phone and said, “In that case, shall we exchange numbers?”
Xu Lin was awoken from his thoughts and hurriedly pulled out his phone. “Sure.”
Ji Ran felt that he truly had foresight. The documents Xu Lin brought together were doubled from yesterday’s. Qin Man would flip through it and occasionally ask a couple of questions.
Just like this, the afternoon passed by.
Ji Ran grew impatient after listening to the discussion which he understood nothing of. Just as he was about to interrupt them, his phone vibrated.
A text from an unfamiliar number.
“Ji Ran, are you playing with me?”
Ji Ran frowned, and asked who it was.
A few seconds later, a reply came—
“Gu Zhe.”
Qin Man was about to ask him whether he was hungry when Ji Ran suddenly stood up. He gripped his phone tightly and turned.
“Where are you going?”
Ji Ran didn’t turn back. “Washroom.”
