My Perfect Enemy is Finally Broke Novel - Chap 31
The two times Old Madam Ji had come over, she’d caught Ji Ran off guard. She hadn’t given any notice before coming.
Ji Ran crossed his arms and leaned against the garage door, waiting until she got out of the car before asking, “What is it?”
“I’m going back to the US, so I came to see you.” Old Madam Ji walked to his side and looked up. “Do you have any tea at home?”
Ji Ran frowned and replied a second later. “…There is.”
“Make a pot for me.” Leaving behind these words, she walked into his house.
Ji Ran didn’t know how to make tea. To him, pouring hot water onto the leaves was enough.
Old Madam Ji only took a sip and frowned minutely before putting it back with disdain written on her face. “You really know how to waste good tea leaves.”
“I don’t drink tea. It’s not a waste.” Ji Ran leaned back into the sofa, barely sweeping a glance over the guest room’s door before quickly retracting his gaze. “…Is there a reason you came?”
“Must there be a reason to see you?” She smiled
After many years, her youthful aura had completely faded, leaving only the grace of a finely polished noble lady.
Ji Ran didn’t have the skills to guess what she was thinking, only that she wouldn’t seek him out for no reason.
He shrugged. “Of course you can. How long are you intending to stay?”
“You are going to start working soon. Are you prepared?” She smoothly changed the subject.
“More or less,” Ji Ran replied.
“I heard Ji Wei’s assistant was also transferred to your side.” Old Madam Ji gave her chauffeur a look and he immediately put down the item in his hand. He took the tea cup and went back into the kitchen to make a fresh one.
Ji Ran only made a sound of agreement. It looked like those rumours about the old lady giving free reign of the company to Ji Guo Zheng were not completely reliable.
Old Madam Ji narrowed her eyes and asked seriously, “Do you remember the matter you promised me before I left for America?”
“Kind of, but not too clear.” Ji Ran said carelessly. “Why don’t you remind me?”
The old lady didn’t get angry. “You promised me you wouldn’t fight for Yong Shi with Ji Wei in this life. This was the condition I offered to Ji Wei’s mother back then.”
“I originally intended to find you a simple position in Yong Shi which would at least be better than having you play mobile games all day. In the end, you’ve snatched away your brother’s assistant before even starting work. Was that deliberate?”
“I snatched his assistant?” Ji Ran sneered, “Is that what he said? Obviously it was Xu Lin who transferred over willingly, what has it got to do with me?”
“You can refuse if you don’t want him. How could he force his way into your team?” The old lady wasn’t easy to fool. She looked at Ji Ran and pressed deeper, “Let’s put Xu Lin aside for now. For the sake of signing Qin Man, Xiao Wei spent a great deal of effort. Yet, you signed a personal contract with Qin Man?”
“…I did it to disgust him. Can’t I?” Ji Ran controlled his expression.
“What qualifications do you have to go against him?” Despite her gentle appearance, the old lady’s words were extremely poisonous. “Your mother and you destroyed our family. What wrong did he do? Do you still expect him to treat you as his younger brother?”
Ji Ran’s hands were clenched at his sides. His nails dug into his skin painfully.
“Should I care about him?” He gave a deep sigh in his heart while laughing indifferently. “Back then, when he found others to torment me and poison me, he should have expected my revenge.”
The old lady paused, her expression complex with a trace of doubt.
She was silent for some time before continuing, “But you’re fine now.”
“That’s right. He’s unlucky for not being able to torment me to death.”
“He wouldn’t do such dangerous
Ji Ran snorted noncommitally.
“This time, you entering the company is an opportunity to rein in your temper.” Old Madam Ji took the cup of tea from her chauffeur and continued, “Do it properly and don’t overstep. Understand?”
It was rare for Ji Ran to hear a trace of regret in his grandmother’s voice.
What did she regret? Allowing him to join the company?
That made sense. Back then, allowing him to enter the company was merely to put some pressure on Ji Wei. Rumour had it that Ji Wei’s mother had come back to find Father Ji recently, her motive unknown.
Ji Ran didn’t reply. He didn’t have a good temper and was afraid once he spoke, he would lose control of his emotions.
Reaching this point, Old Madam Ji thought it should be sufficient for some time. Her grandson wasn’t stupid. Once she gave a hint, he would naturally understand.
In the last ten years, Ji Ran had always lived according to her wishes. But now that he was grown, it was natural for him to have more ideas. It was good enough to be able to control him.
“Hu.” She called her chauffeur. “Bring those things over for him to take a look at.
Hu quickly nodded. “Mr Ji, please wait for a moment.”
Within a few minutes, Hu had brought up a few pieces of garments hung on a clothes hanger.
“You’re starting work soon. In the future, you can’t wear such…” The old lady glanced at his colourful t-shirt. “Gaudy clothes. I got someone to pick these out, try them.”
“No need. The set from before was okay.” Ji Ran touched his chin and said, “Just leave them on the sofa.”
“Mr Ji, these can’t be put on the sofa. They’ll get wrinkled. Let me help you hang them up.” Hu started walking towards his room.
Ji Ran was caught in his thoughts until he heard a sound coming from the cupboard of the guest room.
“Wait! That’s not my room!” He hurriedly called to Hu who had just opened the door to the room.
The sound wasn’t small, so everyone had heard.
Hu was awkward. He looked at Old Madam Ji.
The old lady put down her cup and calmly asked, “You got a pet?”
“…”
“I guess. The other room is mine. Come out after hanging it,” Ji Ran said.
Hu quickly left the room and shut the door tightly. “Alright.”
Half a minute later, he heard Old Hu say from his room. “Mr Ji, I never expected that you’d have prepared several suits. Once I put these in, it’ll be full.”
Fuck. He forgot the cupboard was full of Qin Man’s clothes.
“…Just stuff it in.” He frowned impatiently.
When Old Hu came out once more, Old Madam Ji stood up.
“Let’s end it here. I have another appointment.”
Ji Ran sent them to the garage.
Old Madam Ji stood in front of the car. She suddenly turned around and asked, “It’s her anniversary in a few days?”
It’s been a long time since anyone mentioned her in front of him.
For a moment, Ji Ran almost asked the question that had been caught in his throat for over two years. The hand holding the door to the garage tightened and turned pale.
His lips parted, “How did she…”
His voice was rarely so soft, and since the old lady was already at a large age, she didn’t hear it. She continued speaking, “Her fans may go visit her and there may even be paparazzis. Now that you’re part of Yong Shi, it’s best you don’t go on the day. It won’t be good to run into them.”
“…”
Ji Ran suddenly let go of the doorknob, allowing a self-deprecating smile to take over. He stood there silently.
Having not received a response, Old Madam Ji turned her head and saw that Ji Ran was simply standing there, his eyes obscured. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking about.
So she asked, “Did you hear what I said?”
In just a few seconds, Ji Ran returned to his usual careless demeanor. He looked up and urged her, “You should go. I’m going back to play games.”
She nodded, “Then, grandmother is leaving.”
He watched the car drive out of his house, turn a corner, and disappear from his sight.
After a long time, Ji Ran lowered his head and smiled.
His grandmother really didn’t know anything about the entertainment industry.
Who would remember a small-time actress who had been dead for more than ten years? Especially when she didn’t have many fans even when she was alive.
No one would visit her and no one would feel a little down for her.
As for the media, they’d only bring her up when exposing the feud between the rich, all to incite anger and spur discussion.
Who would remember her?
Ji Ran stood there for a while before returning to the house.
He walked to the guest room and opened the closet.
Inside the closet, Qin Man sat sideways with his elbows casually slung over his knees and his long legs helplessly pressed against the other side. Since he was tall, this posture made Ji Ran feel uncomfortable just by looking at him.
“Is she gone?” Qin Man asked.
At first, Qin Man hadn’t hidden himself in the closet, but Old Hu had almost opened the door. He had no choice but to get into the closet.
He had never done anything like this before. Amidst his helplessness, he also felt some sense of novelty.
The person by his side was silent for a moment before giving a muffled hum.
Qin Man looked up and saw his absent-minded appearance.
“What’s wrong?” He stood up. Taking advantage of this opportunity, he caressed Ji Ran’s hair. “Did the old lady bully you?”
Qin Man thought he would be scolded. Whenever they made love, Ji Ran didn’t like him touching his hair and would chide him for teasing him like a child. Then, Ji Ran would give him a piece of his mind and eventually label him as a pervert.
But this time, Ji Ran did not.
He lowered his head and stared at Qin Man’s shoes. Suddenly, he asked, “Do your parents treat you well?”
Qin Man froze for a second before replying, “They do. What’s wrong?”
“What about your grandparents?”
“My grandfather has passed away, my grandmother is enjoying her retirement life alone in Hainan.
“Oh.”
Qin Man felt he was a little strange. “What’s wrong?”
“No wonder they raised a child like you.” Ji Ran scolded, “It turned out you were spoiled rotten.”
Qin Man laughed helplessly, “What kind of child am I?”
“Arrogant, aloof, indifferent, and haughty. You deserve to be bullied by a person like me after going bankrupt.”
Qin Man’s laugh turned into a frown when he heard that. “What kind of person are you?”
He had too many flaws and he wasn’t willing to list them out in front of Qin Man.
So he asked instead, “What do you think?”
“Generous, honest, and a person with a sharp mouth but a soft heart.” Qin Man laughed, “A good child.”
Perhaps this was the perks of paying someone. At least during their contract period, Qin Man would have to obey him.
“I gave you four, but you only listed three for me.” Ji Ran ordered coldly, “Think of another one, hurry.”
Qin Man could tell at a glance he had received grievances from the old lady.
“You’re handsome and very strong.” Qin Man gave him one extra.
Ji Ran sank into silence for some time before turning around to leave. He only left behind the words, “…Ass kisser.”
That night, Qin Man had just laid down on the bed when he felt a warm foot rub against his inner thigh.
Before he could react, the leg gently nudged him. “Are you asleep?”
“Not yet.” He asked hoarsely, “What is it?”
“I can’t sleep.”
“What do you want to do?” Qin Man asked.
Ji Ran sat up and stripped his clothes off, throwing them onto the ground.
Looking down at him from above, he said threateningly, “You.”
Unfortunately, Qin Man was calm as usual. He opened his arms and said, “Come.”
“…”
Seeing this, Ji Ran immediately lost interest.
“Forget it.”
Just as Ji Ran was about to leave, Qin Man suddenly sat up. He hooked his arms around Ji Ran’s waist and kissed him without another word.
The kiss was very deep but also extremely gentle, carrying a comforting tone. It made Ji Ran dizzy yet comfortable.
After the kiss ended, Ji Ran felt his lips were probably scalded and swollen.
“Let me down.” He patted Qin Man’s shoulder.
“I thought you didn’t want to sleep?” Qin Man continued holding onto him.
“That’s right.”
“Why don’t we do something else?” Qin Man caressed his lips and said, “You’ll feel sleepy after you become tired.”
Ji Ran stared at him.
“Hmm?”
Ji Ran was rarely held by others, but Qin Man’s hand supporting him was extremely sturdy.
Having been in bed for some time, Qin Man’s body was rather warm and comfortable to touch.
Ji Ran thought he must be crazy. He actually felt this person was strong and reliable.
Seeing his silence, Qin Man smiled. “It’s fine if you don’t…”
Before he could continue, Ji Ran had already wrapped his arms around his shoulders and kissed him.
“Do it longer.”
In the dark, Ji Ran’s voice sounded particularly hoarse. “I don’t want to sleep.”
