My Perfect Enemy is Finally Broke Novel - Chap 68
Ji Ran was finally tired. He picked up the phone on the table and said, “Call your parents.”
“It’s not a big deal.” Qin Man stared at him closely and noticed that Ji Ran’s eyes were bloodshot. Originally, it was due to fatigue but they later became redder after he cried. “Don’t be angry.”
“I’m not angry.” Ji Ran said while turning on the phone, “I’m not the one who is lying on the hospital bed. Why would I be angry?”
Qin Man knew that the word ‘car accident’ was a minefield for Ji Ran, so his first thought upon waking up was to crack a joke to lighten the mood.
Unexpectedly, it had the opposite effect.
“Voice or video call?” Ji Ran asked.
“Let’s do a video call, but we’ll wait for a few days, okay?” Qin Man compromised, “Although it’s not a serious injury, the wounds are quite exaggerated, I’m afraid it will scare them.”
Ji Ran hummed sullenly.
Qin Man asked, “Does your face hurt?”
“It’s just some skin.”
“What about your body?”
“There aren’t any injuries.” Ji Ran pursed his lips, “I will investigate this matter.”
The door of the ward was pushed open, and Yue Wen Wen came in with an armful of bags. A delicious scent wafted out through the bag.
“Man Man, you finally came out of the operating room.” Yue Wen Wen breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the person on the bed.
“You didn’t see Ji Ran earlier, but he was sitting on the bench waiting for you as if he had lost his soul. I didn’t even dare to speak to him.”
“Do you have nothing else to talk about?” Ji Ran interrupted him, “What did you buy?”
“I bought a lot, I don’t know what you wanted to eat, so I just bought some of the signature dishes from several nearby stores.”
Ji Ran glanced at the bags. “…Are you feeding pigs?”
“It’s alright,” Yue Wen Wen said. “There are so many people in the ward, everyone can share it. Man Man will be alone most of the time, it’s important to forge a good relationship with his neighbours.”
“He’s only staying for a few days.”
Yue Wen Wen probed, “Man Man, is anyone taking care of you these days? Should I find a nurse for you?”
The corners of Qin Man’s mouth twitched. The doctor didn’t let him touch the water, so his lips were cracked. “No, it’s fine, I should be able to get out of bed soon.”
“But your right hand isn’t in good condition.”
“I have my other hand.” Qin Man said, “I’d be able to move once the anaesthetic wears off.”
Ji Ran said nothing. He poured a glass of water from the table, dipped a cotton swab in it, and dabbed Qin Man’s lips a few times.
“Ran Ran, Qin Man can’t eat after his operation, why don’t you eat it yourself.” Yue Wen Wen picked out a few boxes for him, “I bought roast meat, if you want to eat something light, there’s porridge…”
Ji Ran stood up. “You can keep it for yourself.”
Yue Wen Wen was taken aback. “What about you? You’re not eating?”
He was not in the mood to eat now, and he had no appetite. “No, I’m leaving.”
“Where are you going?” Qin Man turned to look at him.
“Going home.”
Qin Man couldn’t move his neck, but his eyes could follow and he replied, “Okay.”
“Go back to sleep, remember not to let your wound come into contact with water. Be careful on the way back.” He looked at Yue Wen Wen and said with a smile, “Can I trouble you to send him back? I’m very worried after the accident.”
Yue Wen Wen was dumbfounded.
He left, just like this?!
…and Qin Man’s tone of voice sounded like he was entrusting his own child to him.
Ji Ran didn’t even refute, only turning to ask him, “Did you drive here?”
Yue Wen Wen was stunned for a while. “I mean I did…”
Ji Ran nodded. “Send me back.”
“…”
Yue Wen Wen didn’t react until he had walked out of the hospital.
“No, wait.” Yue Wen Wen confirmed again, “Are we really leaving just like this?”
Ji Ran sat in the car. “Or do you want to stay?”
“…”
Yue Wen Wen silently started the car. “But I don’t think it’s convenient for Man Man to be alone, why don’t we hire a nurse for him?”
“No.”
Yue Wen Wen shut up.
The car drove to Ji Ran’s house. Along the way, Ji Ran looked out the window and didn’t say much.
Yue Wen Wen felt that he was still in a bad mood. Fair enough, he was just assaulted by someone, anyone would be depressed for days.
Ji Ran took out his mobile phone and sent an update to Cheng Peng.
In fact, he had already calmed down a lot. He was mostly tired now.
Cheng Peng: Got it, it’s fine as long as you are okay. I’ll have someone look into this matter, don’t worry, I’ll make the driver spit out the truth.
Ji Ran thanked him, looked up and saw that the car was approaching his house. He asked, “Are you free?”
“Yeah, I’m not going to the construction site today. What is it? Do you want me to accompany you?”
The car stopped, Ji Ran opened the door and got off.
“In that case, can you wait here for me for a while? I’ll be out in ten minutes…or do you want to come in and sit down?”
“No more sitting, I’ll wait here.” Yue Wen Wen blinked. “But where do you want to go?”
Ten minutes later, Ji Ran walked out with a small duffel bag.
He buckled his seat belt and said, “Take me back to the hospital.”
“Hey, lad.”
Qin Man was lying down thinking about something when he was suddenly interrupted by a voice calling him.
The middle-aged auntie on the next bed walked over to the bed and smiled kindly. “Why are you alone in the ward, has your friend left?”
Qin Man hummed. “He’s a little tired, so he went back to rest.”
“Yeah, that kid must have been really frightened. When I went to the cafeteria, I saw him sitting on the bench. It must have been over half an hour but his posture didn’t change. He had the same expression the whole time when you were moved into the ward before you regained consciousness. Fortunately, you woke up.”
Auntie glanced at the empty table beside his hospital bed, “When will your family come over?”
Qin Man’s expression changed, but he quickly returned to normal. “They are out of town, so they won’t be able to come.”
“It’s not that serious, I’ll be able to take care of myself once the anaesthetic has subsided.” Qin Man smiled.
“That won’t work.” Auntie thought for a while, “Right, my husband is next to you. While I’m here, feel free to call me if you need anything, I’ll help you.”
Qin Man only smiled and was about to thank her when the door of the ward opened again.
The man had come back with a change of clothes, carrying a duffel bag in his left hand and a hospital folding chair in his right hand. He walked in with a dark face.
Qin Man looked at him with flickering eyes until the other person had come next to his bed. “Why did you come back?”
Ji Ran, “I’m afraid you’d die here.”
“Are you here to accompany him? The aunt was finally relieved. “You have such a great relationship. Are you guys friends or brothers?”
“Friends.”
“Brothers.”
They both spoke at the same time.
The aunt: “…”
Ji Ran paused for a moment. “We are not blood-related brothers.”
The aunt returned to her husband’s side while Ji Ran struggled to unfold the folding bed.
This ‘bed’ was truly pathetic. It was hard to even roll over.
In the end, this was a hospital and not a hotel; resources were tight. Ji Ran never thought of getting another room.
He sat on a folding bed and touched Qin Man’s fingertips. “Does it hurt?”
“A little.” Qin Man replied.
Ji Ran gently pinched again. “After the anaesthetic passes, it will hurt.”
“I’m not a child, why would I be afraid of pain?”
Ji Ran wondered if this person had any sense of pain.
After the accident, Qin Man did not immediately lose consciousness. His eyes kept turning to Ji Ran, as if confirming whether he was injured or not. It wasn’t until he heard the sound of the ambulance did he close his eyes and pass out.
“Just now I went to get the medicine and asked the doctor about your situation.” Ji Ran spoke again, his tone suddenly became heavy. “I asked … if there would be any after effects?”
“And then?”
“And then ..”
Seeing him hesitate, Qin Man raised his eyebrows: “Hmm?”
“The doctor said …”
Ji Ran looked around and leaned closer to whisper in Qin Man’s ear, “He said … your there may … have some problems.”
Qin Man, “…”
“He said that you may never get hard again.” Ji Ran leaned against the hospital bed, holding his chin and carefully observed his expression. “Don’t be too sad. Things change, when you are healed, I will take you to the urology hospital to try and get it fixed.”
“It’s okay.” Qin Man was calm and composed, “I can satisfy you with my mouth too, don’t you like it when I blow you?”
There were still people around. Ji Ran was alarmed when he heard this, and quickly reached out to cover his mouth. “Qin Man!”
“If you feel it’s not good, we can buy some toys.” Qin Man didn’t stop even though his mouth was covered. However, his voice when muffled was even louder, “No matter what, I won’t let you dry up from thirst.”
F*ck!
Ji Ran could no longer bear it. He let his hands go and lowered his voice. “You are doing it on purpose!”
“Who let you curse yourself this way?”
When did he curse himself?
Ji Ran took sometime before understanding those words. With a red face, he snarled, “Your lips are already cracked to this extent, how are you still able to speak?”
At night, Ji Ran used a clean washcloth to help him wipe his face.
Then, he laid back down on the narrow folding bed.
The curtains at the side had been closed. In the small and enclosed space, it felt as if they were the only two people in the world.
There were still patients who weren’t asleep, and the TV continued playing outside.
He was also exhausted. The person who usually disliked sleeping on a big and comfortable hotel bed now felt comfortable lying on a bed made of iron bars.
“Were you scared today?” Qin Man asked.
“No.” Ji Ran paused, then continued, “That broken car didn’t scare me, but you did.”
Qin Man wanted to turn and look at him, but his actions were limited.
Meanwhile, Ji Ran continued, “I was thinking the whole way back, in case something really happened to you, how would I give your parents an explanation?”
“Just this?”
“And the contract we signed is too much of a loss for you.”
The sounds coming from the television drowned out their conversation, only the parties involved could hear each other clearly.
“What else?” Qin Man laughed.
Ji Ran fell silent. “Nothing, I only had so much time. What else could I have thought about?”
Qin Man didn’t respond. Although the anaesthesia had worn off, he was still tired. Coupled with the injuries on his body, he felt uncomfortable.
“Hey.”
There was a brief moment of silence before Ji Ran abruptly called out. “Are you asleep?”
“Not yet.”
Qin Man didn’t say anything else after responding.
Just as Qin Man thought he would fall asleep, he finally heard the words he’d been waiting for.
“…Thanks.”
Qin Man raised a brow. “What did you say? I didn’t catch it.”
Ji Ran, “I said thanks!”
Qin Man smiled. Looks like this junior brother wasn’t so ungrateful after all.
His sleepiness had flown off. Qin Man stared at the ceiling for a while before he asked, “Is that all?”
“What?”
“Just a word of thanks and nothing else?”
Ji Ran was stunned. “What else do you want?”
“Your thanks is too shallow. Shouldn’t you repay this favour through your actions?”
“…” Ji Ran narrowed his eyes and sneered. “You really hate losing out.”
Qin Man persisted. “Alright?”
Ji Ran only hesitated for a bit. “What do you want?”
Thinking for a moment, Qin Man replied, “Promise me one thing.”
“Fine.” Ji Ran immediately agreed, but quickly added, “I’m saying this first… if your demands are too excessive, I’m not doing it.”
His ears turned red as he thought of something. “And nothing perverted.”
These words tore apart Qin Man’s beautiful train of thoughts. He coughed, “Am I that sort of person in your eyes?”
“Yes.” Ji Ran replied impatiently. “Quickly tell me what it is. Money? A House? Or a car?”
“I want you to quit smoking.”
“…”
“Can you do it?”
“…Did you get possessed when you went back to school? Why do you sound like my old school teacher?” Ji Ran reiterated, “I’m only agreeing to one thing. Are you sure you want to waste it on this useless request?”
“I actually wanted you to agree to date me,” Qin Man confessed.
The words ‘date me’ caused Ji Ran’s heart to thump irregularly.
“But I still want to wait until you’ve truly fallen for me.”
Qin Man paused for a moment. Knowing he was embarrassed, he whispered, “I also thought of asking you to do it here in this ward.”
A beautiful scene was ruined just like this.
“Bastard!” Ji Ran cursed.
His face must certainly be red now, Qin Man thought.
He really wanted to take a look.
Without the ability to move, he felt extremely annoyed. He licked his lips and asked, “Can I add one more request?”
The other person replied without hesitation, “Dream on.”
Although he had directly refused, Ji Ran still asked a few seconds later. “…What do you want?”
“Nothing much. I just suddenly really felt like kissing you. But I thought about it, even if you agree, there’s no way for me to do it.”
The room fell silent.
Qin Man wanted to say that he was only spouting rubbish, lest his junior brother think his mind was full of yellow trash and ignore him.
He smiled helplessly.
The other patients were tired. With the lights out, the entire ward was enveloped in darkness.
Qin Man closed his eyes, preparing to fall asleep when he felt a familiar breath next to him.
He first caught a whiff of the cologne Ji Ran usually wore. In the next moment, he felt something gently touch his lips. It was soft and warm, but also light.
“Is that good enough?” Ji Ran got up. The sparse light was dimly reflected in the depth of his eyes and coupled with his tense brows, he appeared somewhat embarrassed.
This was the first time Ji Ran had taken the initiative to kiss him outside of bed.
In reality, the number of times he had done so in bed was also pitifully few.
Qin Man stared at him and suddenly felt that it was extremely worthwhile to be in an accident.
