Never Meeting Again In Our Next Life (Living Life Over) - Volume 1 (99)
After talking about business, Song Yan looked at the time. They still have a few minutes left. He then asked: “Can I ask a few more questions?”
Song Huaixing made a ‘go ahead’ gesture.
“You said just now that you are from different planes and there have been armed conflicts between you so who among the three of you do you generally listen to?”
“We listen to whoever makes sense.” Song Huaixing said.
“Of course, most of the time it is still based on Huaixing’s opinions.” Ke Mei added.
“Why?” Song Yan asked.
“Because he is better than us.” Du Lanze shrugged, “Actually, there are differences between our three planes. The planes of Ke Mei and I are at the same level while Huaixing’s plane is at a higher level than us. In the beginning, I and Ke Mei’s clan fought hard and suffered heavy casualties. Later, we relied on the people of the Liudao Realm, where Huaixing was from, to mediate. Finally, the armistice agreement was signed, otherwise, there will be endless fights.”
(armistice: an agreement made by opposing sides in a war to stop fighting for a certain time; a truce)
Ke Mei snorted coldly: “Who’s to blame? All of your Alphas are militants and most of the disputes are caused by you first, okay?”
“Is your sentinel a good bird?” Du Lanze retorted, “If it weren’t for your aggressiveness, we wouldn’t be…”
(sentinel: a soldier stationed to keep guard or to control access to a place)
“Wait a minute!” Song Yan couldn’t help interrupting. “What did you just say? Alpha? Sentinel?”
“I’m sorry, I haven’t introduced myself yet,” Du Lanze coughed lightly and said seriously, “My name is Du Lanze from the ABO family. I am a Beta. ”
(ABO: alpha beta omega universe where people have three genders and an omega can get pregnant)
He pointed to Ke Mei and said, “This guy is from the sentinel family. He is a guide.”
Song Yan looked at Du Lanze, then at Ke Mei. He’s stunned.
Are all the strange racial settings that you can find in the novels true? Who will tell him that he is really not dreaming?
“It seems that you don’t understand our race very well,” Du Lanze said very enthusiastically, “Come, come. I’ll give you popular science…”
(Popular Science: an interpretation of science intended for a general audience)
“I understand,” Song Yan said, “Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Three types of attributes and six genders, of which two-thirds of the sexes can give birth to an offspring. The reproduction ability of your race is simply unmatched.”
(In ABO Universe, all people are assigned one of the three secondary genders: alpha, beta, or omega, resulting in a combination of six different possible genders.)
“Pfft, two-thirds of the sexes, hahaha,” Du Lanze leaned forward with a smile, “Theoretically, it’s true. It seems you understand it!”
“I’ve read about it in novels before but I’m curious, how amazing is your Alpha’s mark to an Omega?”
Du Lanze stared in a daze and asked, “Do you want to try it too? This feeling is said to be unspeakable. I am a Beta, I don’t know.”
“Forget it,” Song Yan glanced at his left leg and suddenly felt his mood go down again, “I’m just asking casually.”
Ke Mei patted him on the shoulder gently, without speaking.
Song Yan turned his head and looked at Ke Mei again: “You are a guide so you should have a spiritual body. What kind of animal is it?”
Ke Mei was stunned for a moment and then smiled: “You read about it from a novel again? It must be our people who smuggled here and passed the information of our race. But this information is out of date. Now that we have completed the evolution of the race genes, the weapon we rely on to fight is no longer a spiritual body but a contract beast.”
“What is a contract beast? Is it different from a spiritual body?”
“Spiritual bodies are generally real creatures in reality. They have weak fighting ability and coexist and die with the body. If the spiritual body dies, the body cannot live alone so the death rate of our race in ancient times was very high.”
Ke Mei paused and continued: “Later on, we discovered a huge group of alien animals in the subspace of the original plane. By changing our genes, we refined our spiritual body pheromone to attract those subspace alien beasts and sign a master-servant contract. Since the contract beast and the body are not in a symbiotic relationship, when the contract beast dies, the body will be severely damaged but it will not die.”
Song Yan asked, “What about your contract beast?”
“Dead,” Ke Mei said lightly, “Died on the battlefield.”
Song Yan was startled and said in a low voice, “Sorry.”
When they said this, Du Lanze silently shrank his neck, trying to reduce his sense of existence as much as possible for fear that Ke Mei would be uncomfortable and repeat the old thing.
But Ke Mei didn’t seem to want to talk more so he nodded slightly and changed the subject: “Time is running out,” he said to Song Yan, “I will take you back.”
“Okay.” Song Yan nodded then looked at Song Huaixing again, “Remember what you promised me.”
As Song Huaixing was about to speak, he heard Song Yan continue: “Just like you don’t trust me, I don’t trust you. From now on, I will send someone to protect Xia Lin secretly. If I discover that you have violated the agreement and involved Xia Lin without authorization, don’t blame me for not keeping my promise.”
“Okay,” Song Huaixing reached out to him, “It’s a deal.”
Song Yan shook his head briefly, then turned to Ke Mei and said, “Thank you, send me back.”
(I started MTLing this story because of the drama. I thought that the plot of the story is somehow similar to Black Lotus and 10 Years That I Loved You The Most lol I was wrong 😂)
