Ni Jiu (Intoxicated) - Chap 13
When Lian Jue called again, Shen Tingwei had already completed the brain examination and was filling out a test questionnaire in the consultation room by himself.
After filling out the form, he came out of the room and the assistant who accompanied him to check handed him the mobile phone. Lian Jue’s tone without any fluctuations came from the receiver, looking a little cold: “I warned you, don’t pretend to be crazy with me.”
“I’m not pretending.” Shen Tingwei said calmly, “Mr. Lian, I’m not sick.”
The phone was quiet for a second before Lian Jue continued, “Cooperate with the inspection. Don’t play tricks.”
From his tone, Shen Tingwei could almost see his consistent high-pitched expression with his lower jaw slightly raised.
“I will.” Shen Tingwei thought for a while and added, “I have no ill intentions towards you.”
He waited patiently for a while and Lian Jue didn’t speak any more, so he hand the phone back to Lian Jue’s assistant.
The assistant took the call and whispered, “Mr. Lian.”
The other side didn’t know what to say, but the assistant quickly replied: “Okay, President Lian.”
The chief physician sat opposite the square table watching Shen Tingwei’s slender and nimble fingers constantly repeating the movements of disrupting and restoring the rubik’s cube during their conversation.
“You have some slight anxiety.” The doctor put down the questionnaire in his hand and finally came to a conclusion.
The movements in Shen Tingwei’s hands stopped.
“Yes.” He raised his head. “Doctor, I’m anxious.”
After the examination, the doctor handed the diagnosis certificate to the assistant, explained to him the various data on the test sheet in detail and explained to him: “No problem was found in the brain examination. Judging from the patient’s current condition, it can be basically determined. The patient suffers from mild anxiety. But anxiety disorder is one of the more common neuropsychiatric diseases in the social population and it does not require hospitalization if it does not affect normal life.”
Shen Tingwei sat beside him silently and raised his head slightly surprised when the assistant took the diagnosis and politely asked the doctor to prescribe a medicine.
He thought he would be forced to be hospitalized. After all, this shouldn’t be too difficult for Lian Jue.
On the way back, the assistant who sat side by side with Shen Tingwei in the back seat flipped through the test report in his hand and could not find any problems.
Shen Tingwei’s eyes swept across the movements of his hands and he comforted the assistant who seemed more anxious than him in a self-deprecating tone: “Maybe their machine detected it wrong.”
The assistant raised his head and gave him a deep look: “Their hospital uses our company’s equipment.”
“Huh?” Shen Ting couldn’t find the necessary connection between the two for a long time and blinked at him, waiting for the following.
The assistant frowned almost invisibly, looked away and said bluntly, “Our company’s equipment is the best in China, so there can be no problems.”
“…”
Shen Ting didn’t turn his head to look out the window at the shadow of the tree leaning back and couldn’t help but maliciously speculate in his heart whether Lian Jue’s company was conceited as its corporate culture.
Then there was silence all the way.
He imagined that the car would park at a corner and drop him but it didn’t happen. The assistant only took him to the villa and left with the driver. He was even stingy to say a word to him and he didn’t even stay behind. A word of explanation or admonition.
The woman who made him breakfast in the morning was not there either. He was the only one in the big and deserted house.
Shen Tingwei looked around in the living room, walked to the sofa and sat down, reaching for a pillow behind his waist. The strong heart palpitations in his chest still continued. The inexplicable panic accompanied by the soreness that his body was about to fall apart, let him sit and feel uneasy
He took out the oral medicine prescribed by the hospital from the bag and aimlessly read the ingredients listed on the medicine box. After reading the possible side effects of the medicine, he didn’t want to take it.
He pushed the medicine box back on the coffee table and sat on the sofa for a while.
Shen Tingwei was very conscious on relying on others. He didn’t go where he shouldn’t gonand he didn’t touch things he shouldn’t touch. Later, when he got bored sitting on the sofa, he found the TV’s remote control from the drawer on the lower level of the coffee table, turned on the TV and tune to a city channel to watch.
The city TV was broadcasting the noon news, mostly unsafe behaviors on the road. Shen Tingwei watched it for a while with boredom and then gave up the idea of obtaining useful information from the TV.
There is nothing special, the only difference between the news programs here and what he has seen before may only be that the lower end of the program will not scroll and broadcast the incidents of public security disorder caused by the out-of-control pheromone – such incidents are not uncommon, if you want to detail each one. After the broadcast, the TV station may have nothing else to do.
Before Shen Tingwei picked up the remote control pad and was about to turn off the TV, he suddenly thought of himself.
He stared at the black screen for a moment.
‘Is his name also scrolling below the news program now?’
‘Did the friend who last spoke to him on the phone blamed himself for it?’
‘Does the Alpha who deliberately released pheromones to induce him to go into heat need to bear legal responsibility?’
‘Also, his parents who have always been proud of him… how are they now?’
Things that he had been deliberately afraid to think about rushed into his mind uncontrollably at this moment. His breathing tightened instinctively, his heart seemed to be blocked by something and his palpitations became more serious.
Shen Tingwei finally smashed the medicine on the table and ate two pills forcing himself to calm down and make plans for the next step.
His ID card is still in the guest room upstairs and his wallet should still be in the pocket of the trousers he wore that day. He don’t know if it is also upstairs. Thinking of this, he felt that he was a bit superfluousnand it was useless to get a wallet. He paid special attention to it today. The coins and certificates here are obviously not compatible with the ones he holds.
In fact, even if it is universal, the cash he carries with him is not enough to support him living here for a week.
Shen Ting was leaning against the armrest of the sofa, propping up the aching forehead, not only did the pain in his heart not ease but his head also started to hurt. He had a hard choice between leaving and staying for a while. Finally, he decided to stay here for the time being and wait for Lian Jue to come back before making a decision.
***
Kang Tong knelt down in the passenger seat his face on the privacy glass was squeezed out of shape and when he saw Lian Jue coming across the road his eyes first bent.
Lian Jue opened the car door and got in the car handing Kang Tong the pizza box in his hand.
“Thank you dad!”
This child’s cry was louder than usual. Lian Jue felt amused and the corners of his lips had a shallower arc than usual.
“Seat belt.”
Kang Tong put the pizza on his lap, pulled the seat belt to fasten it. While his father wasn’t paying attention he secretly opened the carton and glanced at it.
Lian Jue didn’t allow Kang Tong to eat in the car, so he quickly closed the lid and pretended nothing happened. Changing the subject: “Dad, shall we go to register tomorrow?”
“Okay.”
Kang Tong rolled his eyes and wanted to speak when Lian Jue’s cell phone rang, he immediately shut his mouth and waited for Lian Jue to answer the phone.
“Comrade Lian Jue, I got off the plane, why don’t you come to pick me up?”
It took nearly one and a half hours from the city to the airport. The car stopped in front of the international airport terminal.
After a while, the door of the cafe next to the terminal was pushed open from the inside. A girl looked out on the phone, saw Lian Jue’s car and waved her hand excitedly.
Lian Jue hung up the phone. He told Kang Tong to stay in the car and pushed the door. He got out of the car and walked towards the girl.
“Aren’t you supposed to be back tomorrow?” Lian Jue took Chen Ningxue’s suitcase, “Did you tell Dad?”
“No, isn’t this a surprise for you?” Chen Ningxue put her coat on Lian Jue’s arm and tied up the long hair that was scattered on her shoulders, “It’s really hot in China, I’m dressed like a bear today. I knew I should check the weather in advance.”
Chen Ningxue’s female companion looked at Lian Jue with ambiguous eyes and gently poked her arm: “Ning Xue, don’t you want to introduce me?”
Chen Ningxue tied her hair, threw back a more ambiguous look, took Lian Jue’s arm and said with a smile, “I’m Tong Yangfu.”
There was a slightly surprised expression on the female partner’s face: “Really?”
Lian Jue’s face darkened and before he could speak, Chen Ningxue had already let go of his arm: “Nonsense, of course it’s fake, this is my brother.”
