Ni Jiu (Intoxicated) - Chap 19
In the end, Shen Tingwei couldn’t accept the luxurious kindness with peace of mind. He borrowed a cell phone from his colleague and called Chen Ningxue.
It took a long time for someone on the opposite side to pick up and the tone was not as gentle as when they met yesterday. The slightly faster speed indicated the host’s irritable mood at the moment: “Hello, who is it?”
“…Miss Chen?” Shen Tingwei paused, “Hello, I’m Shen Tingwei who helped you find the necklace at the trampoline park yesterday.”
The other side was quiet for a second and seemed to remember who he was. Her tone became a little softer than before: “Hello. May I ask what’s the matter?”
“I heard from my colleague today that you gave a card…” Shen Tingwei stopped speaking when someone talked on the other end of the phone. The female customer impatiently replied to the person outside the phone and then continued to ask him: “What card?”
“The membership card you applied for us this afternoon is signed by Lian Kangtong.”
Chen Chulian sent servants from time to time to urge Chen Ningxue to go to dinner. Chen Ningxue was so upset that she thought that Tongtong was having a good time and went back to pester Lian Jue to do it but he didn’t care and politely interrupted, “I’m sorry. I have something to do here, if there is a problem with the card, please remind me next time when the child goes to play again.”
“It’s not a card problem…”
Shen Tingwei spoke in a hurry but was interrupted again by Chen Ningxue: “The card is fine.”
“If there is nothing else. I’m going since I am currently busy. Bye.”
“Miss Chen…—”
Chen Ningxue hung up without waiting for the other side to finish speaking. She put away her phone and walked to the restaurant saying, “Come on! You don’t have to keep urging me to have a meal at home. I don’t know why you thought that the United Nations would have to change the Secretary-General. Everyone is there.”
Chen Chulian looked displeased: “Ning Xue, is that how you should talk? After staying out for a few years, why has your manners become lesser and lesser?”
Yu Man greeted Lian Jue and patted Chen Chulian’s arm: “It’s okay. The child is already an adult. Don’t make noise in front of so many people. Just sit down and start dinner.”
Chen Ningxue could see her being so arrogant. She rolled her eyes unabashedly and sat down beside Lian Jue reluctantly.
Chen Chulian was overjoyed after reading Yu Man’s pregnancy test report in the afternoon. The wrinkles at the end of his eyes deepened a few times, so he immediately asked the housekeeper to add more dishes in the evening.
Chen Chulian was in a good mood. The dinner went smoothly. During dinner, Chen Ningxue pulled her face and deliberately messed the tablewares which arouse Chen Chulian’s dissatisfaction.
Chen Chulian put the bird’s nest soup brought by the servant in front of Yu Man. Yu Man smiled and was caught by Chen Ningxue.
“Look how proud she is.” Chen Ningxue poked a knife on the rib on the plate and muttered, “I don’t know, I thought she was carrying a dragon seed.”
Lian Jue brought the red wine to his mouth and took a sip. His expression remained unchanged. He also whispered: “For many people, this is indeed the case.”
“I don’t think I’m treated like a princess at home either.” Chen Ningxue tilted her head and whispered to him, “Do you feel that way, crown prince?”
Lian Jue silently put the cup on the tablecloth and said lightly, “It’s different.”
Chen Ningxue was stunned for a while then looked up at him subconsciously but Lian Jue was still calm with no superfluous expression on his face.
After being stunned, the topic at the dinner table has changed from diet and nutrition to the child’s name.
Chen Chulian even had several proposals rejected by Yu Man. He couldn’t make up his mind, so he threw the conversation to Lian Jue: “Do you have any suggestions? What do you think?”
The corner of Lian Jue’s mouth had a gentle smile but there was no turbulence in his eyes. After thinking for a moment, he said, “It’s better to be called Chen Zhuo.” It was like being asked a question by a teacher while reading and the answer was polite and serious without emotion, “Excellent Zhuo, what do you think?”
“Chen Zhuo, calm… Yes, that is good name.” Chen Chulian laughed, “The son of Chen Chulian is naturally extraordinary.”
“Chen Zhuo, calm down when you are in trouble. This name is really good.” Yu Man pretended to think for a while but the words were already arranged in her heart, as if she was waiting for a stall to say, “But what if it’s a girl? You can’t be called Xiao Zhuo. How ugly it would sound.”
Chen Chullian frowned invisibly but still followed her wishes: “Do you want a daughter?”
“No, it’s all the same.” Yu Man smiled, “But it would be nice to have a daughter as beautiful as Ning Xue.”
This was deliberately said, as if to please but it made Chen Ningxue feel bad for no reason.
Chen Chulian was obviously pleased by his considerate wife, so he turned to Chen Ningxue: “Ningxue wants a younger brother or a younger sister?”
Chen Ningxue said in her heart that she wanted a fart but what she said was still a little bit of a thorn but it didn’t get any better: “Whatever, it’s not my birth.”
The end of Yu Man’s eyes trembled slightly and before Chen Chulian’s attack, he still laughed with a gentle voice: “I didn’t like children when I was the age of Ningxue. The age difference is too big to play together. ”
Chen Chullian nodded and said: “Indeed, children are quite lonely now. Unlike Ning Xue’s time, at least there is Lian Jue who can accompany her to talk.” After speaking, he turned his head and glanced there. He don’t know if it was Chen Ningxue or Lian Jue’s body, the smile on his face did not change. He said calmly, “If there is a child of the same age who can play with him, it would be great and he will not be alone anymore. Do you think so, Lian Jue?”
The suddenly thrown words made Lian Jue’s jaw line tighten involuntarily. He calmly took a napkin, tapped it on his lips, and replied vaguely
“Are you still seeing a doctor recently?”
Chen Chulian picked up the red wine.
Lian Jue’s face changed slightly when he heard the words.e raised his eyes to look at Chen Chulian. His eyes were not concealed.
The voice of the person next to him suddenly interjected: “See a doctor? Brother, what’s wrong with you?”
Chen Chulian seemed to notice the gaze he cast. He took a sip of red wine and whispered with Yu Man.
After a long while, Lian Jue retracted his eyes. The patterned curvature of the corner of his lips flattened and replied bluntly: “Well, I didn’t rest well in the past few years, so I asked a doctor to adjust it.”
“What about now? Is it better?” Chen Ningxue looked worried, “Are you too tired from work?”
Lian Jue half-drooped his eyes and stared in front of her. Her eyes covered with thick eyelashes were deep in the deep pool: “It’s all right now.”
Chen Chulian lifted his eyes and said slowly, “It’s fine. If it’s not a big problem, I think it can be put on the agenda to have a child of your own — an adopted child can’t compare to you.”
The complicated emotions mixed into anger boiling in the heart and it was difficult to maintain the surface peace.
Chen Ningxue’s expression was not good-looking and the topic of pregnancy and childbirth kept in her ears all night. At this moment, her pressure was on the verge of breaking out. When Chen Chulian mentioned it again, she finally couldn’t help her face cold: “Is it still possible? Have you eaten? You have to rush to let the whole world accompany you to have children when you have children yourself? How old is my brother? He didn’t even have a girlfriend.”
As soon as these words came out, the atmosphere immediately froze.
Even Yu Man’s heart was raised. She wanted to come out and make a round of it but Chen Chulian was not annoyed. He said in a hurry: “Is it something he wants to do right away?”
In sync with his voice, the sound of knives and forks touching the plates came down.
“I’m done eating.” Lian Jue got up calmly. His voice did not fluctuate, “You eat slowly. I’ll go first.”
When he left his seat, he heard the harsh sound of the chair dragging the floor behind him and Chen Ningxue said calmly, “I’m done eating too.”
This family has always not allowed such a thing to happen. There is no reason for the juniors to leave the table before the elders have finished eating.
So Chen Chulian even whispered: “Sit down for me.”
The butler held Lian Jue’s coat and did not dare to say a word. Lian Jue kept walking, took the coat from the butler’s hand and left.
…
“Fuck, what about savages? Are you playing with your mother?”
“Just know how to send it! Fuck, are you a fucking philanthropist?”
The person next to him was swearing vaguely with a cigarette in his mouth and when he was in a hurry, he slapped the keyboard on the table and dusted the cigarette ashes into the instant noodle bucket after eating.
The internet cafe is on the basement floor. The strong smell of smoke mixed with the greasy and rancid smell of instant noodles filled the enclosed space.
He held his breath slightly, trying to put his attention back on the screen in front of him. The physiological structure of a normal woman is very different from the omega physiological structure diagram he had seen in the physical health textbook. The position of the uterus is different from the reproductive cavity.
The person beside him probably lost the game. He pulled the headset off and threw it on the table. He threw the cigarette butt into the instant noodle bucket, got up and left.
After waiting for the others to go far, Shen Tingwei continued to search the internet for the precautions for medical abortion and after thinking about it, he added the word ectopic pregnancy to the search term.
The query results came into view. The contents made him tremble.
His breathing was tight. He didn’t dare to look carefully at the cases of drug flow failures. When he wanted to turn it off, he realized that even his hands were shaking.
When he came out of the internet cafe, the cool evening breeze hit his face and he took a breath.
When he returned to the dormitory and lay on the bed, the pictures he had browsed had not completely dissipated from his mind.
Maybe his anxiety is more serious than before and his heart palpitations became more rancid. The constant tightening of his heart makes it difficult for him to even breathe.
The doctor reminded him that if he is really uncomfortable. He can add medicine appropriately. After eating, he closed his eyes and sleep without thinking about anything. Hoping that he will wake up much better.
The medicine was on the table. Two steps away from the bed.
Shen Tingwei lay motionless. The light from the crack of the door drew a yellowish shadow on the ceiling and the mottled mildew on the ceiling revealed a dirty and ugly surface under the light.
He stared aimlessly for a while, the light and shadow in his vision blurred by the dense fog, so he closed his eyes.
The lights in the living room went out at some point. The light through the eyelids dimmed and then rose to a thick darkness.
The night obscured his eyes and magnified his senses. He could clearly hear his own erratic heartbeat and breathing.
The burning glands in the back of the neck release faint pheromones, an omega’s way of self-soothing during the first trimester. He stroked his still flat belly, thinking wildly—perhaps soon his belly would swell and feel round. If it gets bigger, maybe the little thing will roll over in his stomach. The restless little feet will kick him and it will hurt… will it hurt? than surgery.
Shen Tingwei closed his eyes tightly ignoring the damp heat that fell into his ears along the end of his eyes. Then, let his emotions fall into great fear and powerlessness.
Fear is fear of pain, fear of going to the hospital and being treated as a freak…
What he is more afraid is that he can’t overcome his fear and choose to keep it.
Stay, what about later? Will he survive?
He looks like this, in this world. He can’t even see his own future. How dare he think about the future of his children.
Powerless…
The hand resting on his lower abdomen should have been warm but it became extremely hot under his increasingly difficult breathing, burning the only connection between his flesh and blood with this world through the hard rough clothes.
Calmness is bought with sleepless nights.
It was not until there was movement in the living room that Shen Tingwei made a choice from the struggle after calm.
He took the cell phone borrowed from his roommate and let out a light breath.
He didn’t need to memorize that phone call, the series of eight numbers was so high-profile that it was hard to forget after reading it once.
The call on the other side was very fast and before Shen Tingwei took another deep breath to exhale, a cold and polite voice came from the receiver: “Hello.”
Shen Tingwei just said hello but the other end of the phone quickly recognized him: “Mr. Shen?”
“Well…” Shen Tingwei hid in the room and kept his voice low, “Hello, Mr. Lin.”
Lin Chen hesitated for a moment: “Is something wrong?”
Shen Tingwei had no other way.
If someone could help him, the only person he could think of was Lian Jue.
Shen Tingwei closed his eyes and breathed lightly. The knuckles of the hand holding the phone were white due to the force. He wasn’t sure whether Lian Jue was willing to help him but he stubbornly thought it was necessary to tell Lian Jue.
Lian Jue is the father of the child.
… In addition, Lian Jue’s company creates medical devices.
He has money and connections. It is the safest way to solve the child’s problems, through him.
“Can you please help me get in touch with Mr. Lian Jue?”
When Lian Jue received the call, the company was having a weekly morning meeting.
It’s not an important meeting, so when Lin Chen called, he didn’t stop the dispute between the two directors of the marketing and sales department. He got up alone and went to the conference room to pick up the phone.
He slept late last night, Lian Jue tiredly rubbed his eyebrows, and answered the phone: “What’s wrong?”
Lin Chen was familiar with his habits and went straight to the topic: “Mr. Lian, Mr. Shen called you.”
Lian Jue pressed the hand between his eyebrows for a while: “Who?”
“Shen Tingwei.”
Lian Jue frowned, unavoidably immediately thinking of the card that was issued yesterday. Does he know?
“Turn the phone over.”
While waiting for the call to be connected, Lian Jue glanced at the conference room. The verbal war between the two escalated to slapping the table and staring.
Both of them are senior-level employees of the company. Disagreement of opinions at work is a common occurrence. Both of them have strong personalities. This happens from time to time. Lian Jue originally did not have a high tolerance for invalid disputes but over time he got used to it.
He raised his hand and knocked on the door of the conference room reminding them to keep their voices low but the two of them were so excited that no one noticed the movement there.
Lian Jue was about to open the door and go in when the chattering in his ears was suddenly replaced by a warm whisper on the phone.
“Mr. Lian.”
Shen Tingwei’s voice was very low. He don’t know if it was because he just woke up in the morning or because his throat was uncomfortable. There was an inconspicuous hoarseness in his voice.
Lian Jue’s hand that pushed the door then stopped.
He retracted his hand, took a few steps farther from the conference room and replied, “What’s the matter?”
Lian Jue waited for two seconds but the other side didn’t make a sound. His lack of patience was quickly exhausted by the silence and he said impatiently, “If it’s because of that card—.”
The person on the other end of the phone spoke at the same time as him. The voice was so soft that it seemed as if the final sound was scattered into the air.
Lian Jue heard it clearly but in a trance, he thought he didn’t hear it clearly. After a moment of stunnedness he said, “…You, what did you say?”
It was obviously easier to speak again than the first time. The opposite side only paused a little this time and then repeated the words just now.
“Mr. Lian, I’m pregnant.”
Even Jue didn’t have to think about how wonderful the expression on his face would be at the moment. He even tried to restrain himself for a long time but he still failed and scolded the other end of the phone.
“Shen Tingwei,” Lian Jue’s small blue veins burst slightly on the corner of his forehead, his jaw tightened, “Do you think I’m a three-year-old child?”
The other side whispered no, followed by a brief silence.
Then Shen Tingeei asked him in a low voice with a trembling voice, “…does your company have any equipment for abortion?”
Unbelievably, Lian Jue realized that he could even hear the meaning of bearing humiliation and burden in his tone.
Lian Jue took a deep breath.
His emotions had never been so close to being out of control. When he pursed his lips and endured a little, he finally couldn’t hold back and he almost leaked a sentence from the clenched teeth:
“Are you fucking sick?”
Without waiting for the other party to speak again, Lian Jue hung up the phone.
He stood by the window with a cold face and calmed down his disordered breathing for a while.
Back in the conference room again, the eyes of the people in the quarrel swept across his darkened face and invariably quieted down.
Lian Jue looked around in the conference room with a dark face. The people below were moved by his sudden low air pressure. They couldn’t help but breathe a little screen and then became nervous.
His eyes stayed on Director Huang of the R&D Department.
The other party suddenly panicked, lowered his head and was reflecting on whether his department had not been able to do something in place recently.
Then, he heard Lian Jue say: “The batch of equipment our company supplied to the city mental hospital last year, today sent someone to maintain and test it. Then, show me the test report before going off work at night.”
Director Huang: “…?”
