Ni Jiu (Intoxicated) - Chap 58
Lian Jue didn’t have the habit of sleeping with people, let alone hugging people, so he didn’t sleep well that night.
Shen Tingwei was sound asleep, maybe because he was really tired. But after he fell asleep, he made a lot of small movements. From time to time, his ankle rubbed against Lian Jue’s calf and occasionally he raised his hand to touch Lian Jue’s arm. It seemed that he felt at ease when he touched him and he could keep it for a while without moving.
Lian Jue was not used to lying on his side, so he tried to pull his arm back but Shen Tingwei suddenly muttered ‘goodbye’ in his arms as if he is dreaming. ‘What else did he say?’ The voice was too soft and Lian Jue couldn’t hear it clearly. He only felt that Shen Tingwei was coming back to his arms. He arched his arms and pressed his back tightly again.
Later, Lian Jue fell asleep in the faint sweetness emanating from him.
In the morning, Shen Tingwei woke up first.
Lian Jue used to draw the curtains so tightly that there was no light in the room. The darkness could not tell day and night. Shen Tingwei still felt weak but it was a little better than last nigh and it was more of a backache. He subconsciously raised his hand to rub his lower back but unintentionally woke the person behind him.
Lian Jue grabbed his hand and his lips still pressed against the back of his neck. His voice had the languid and hoarseness characteristic of sleep and said, “Don’t move.”
Shen Tingwei settled down quickly, his ears were reddened by the breath rubbing the back of his neck and his fingers were slightly stiff. Lian Jue held his hand for a long time. He didn’t move for a while then he released him to let go of him and laid his body upright.
So Shen Tingwei lifted his neck slightly and let Lian Jue pull his arm back from under his neck.
Lian Jue closed his eyes and touched the pillow for a while thinking that his mobile phone was not by the pillow. He then thought of getting an electronic clock for the bedside table.
He narrowed his eyes and glanced at the time. He put the watch back on the table casually and lay down for a while before sitting up.
“I’ll turn on the lights.” Lian Jue said.
Shen Tingwei replied in a low voice, “Okay.”
Lian Jue touched the switch beside the wall and only turned on the wall lamp on his side. Shen Tingwei was stabbed by the sudden warm light and closed his eyes. After a few seconds, he slowly adapted to the light and reopened his eyes.
Lian Jue sat on the bed half awake. He started rubbing his temples with his head down.
Shen Tingwei was lying down. He could only see his naked and sturdy back. His eyelids suddenly felt hot again.
He was hesitating whether to say a word to Lian Jue or something else. When there was a light that can be spotted from an incoming call came at the bathroom, Lian Jue rarely showed a little bit of emotion however his brows wrinkled unconsciously. With an impatient “tsk”, he picked up the bathrobe that he had thrown yesterday from the carpet, put it on, got out of bed and walked into the bathroom.
Shen Tingwei heard him pick up the phone in the bathroom and returned to the usual indifferent tone of speech. Unexpectedly he found that Lian Jue seemed to be a little…anxious.
Shen Tingwei seemed to have spied on some unknown secret, until Lian Jue hung up the phone to wash up and came out of the bathroom, he was still a little dazed. Lian Jue’s expression returned to calm from the impatience he had just woken up. He didn’t seem to notice his gaze. He went straight to the closet, found what to wear and slowly started to untie the tie of the bathrobe. The action made Shen Tingwei quickly retracted his eyes.
After changing clothes, Lian Jue randomly chose a dark tie from the drawer and tied it out for himself. He glanced at Shen Tingwei, who was pretending to be asleep with his eyes closed and red-faced from the full-length mirror next to the wardrobe, and said: ” It’s still early, go to sleep.”
It was not the first time that Shen Tingwei was caught pretending to be asleep but he was as embarrassed as the first time.
When the door of the room was closed, Shen Tingwei opened his eyes very slowly, stared blankly for a while, found his mobile phone on the bedside table and glanced at the time. He inevitably recalled that Lian Jue gave his mobile phone to him last night. He forced him to check the answer to his question. He put the phone aside, pulled the quilt up to cover half of his face and let himself fall into this shallow and familiar atmosphere that made him feel at ease.
Lian Jue came out of the room and saw Kang Tong sneaking at the door of Shen Tingwei’s room with his bare feet, as if he was about to knock on the door but hesitant.
Lian Jue stopped and asked him, “Why did you get up so early?”
Kang Tong was startled by him, turned around and stood up straight, and hesitantly said, “I want to see if Weiwei is better…”
Lian Jue looked at his bare feet, frowned and said, “He’s fine.” Then he told Kang Tong to go back and put on his slippers.
Kang Tong obediently said ‘okay’. Seeing that Lian Jue was about to leave, he hurriedly stopped again: “Dad!”
Lian Jue glanced at the watch. He seemed to be in a hurry but asked him, “What’s wrong?”
“Is Aunt Liu coming back soon?” Kang Tong asked timidly.
Lian Jue raised his eyebrow.
He didn’t find the time to tell Kang Tong about his idea of dismissing the nanny. Now, he has something to do and he can’t talk Kang Tong for too long. He was thinking about how to talk to Kang Tong then he heard the chid whispering to him: “Dad, why don’t you let Aunt Liu come again, can you?”
Lian Jue was a little surprised but he didn’t expect Kang Tong to take the initiative to tell him about this, so he asked, “Why? Do you like Aunt Liu very much?”
It was the first time that Kang Tong made a request to Lian Jue, as if he was afraid of being rejected by him, his eyes were a bit dodgy: “I promised to help in keeping Weiwei’s secret. If Weiwei’s baby is known to others, he will be bullied of……”
Lian Jue looked at the worried look on Kang Tong’s face silently and suddenly felt that Shen Tingwei seemed to know how to get along with Kang Tong better than him.
“Well.” Lian Jue said, “I see.”
Lian Jue drove back by himself last night, so he didn’t call the driver and drove to the company by himself.
It wasn’t until he started the car and drove out of the community that he suddenly smelled this faint sweet wine fragrance still lingering on his body – this scent had been smelled all night by him that he had adapted to the fact that if he didn’t think about it deliberately, he would not be enchanted. ‘Ignore it yourself.’
After thinking for a while, he drove through two narrow tree-lined streets but could not park. Onto the main road, he found a parking space to stop the car.
Just as he was unbuckling his seat belt, he took out his mobile phone first to call the driver but the window was knocked twice from the outside. Lian Jue saw the traffic police standing outside the window, his hands froze and after a few seconds of hesitation, he rolled the window. down.
As soon as the window came down, the traffic policeman standing beside his car frowned but quickly saluted to him and said to him professionally and politely, “Hello, please cooperate with us.”
When Lian Jue saw the alcohol tester stretched out in front of him, his expression froze.
Only then did he notice that a few cars were stopped not far away. This part of the bustling road in the city is now in morning rush hour. Obviously, they were all ‘hangover drivers’ who were caught by surprise.
Lian Jue’s eyelids twitched indistinctly.
When the traffic police saw that he was reluctant to blow the alcohol tester, he called his colleagues not far awayand two more people came towards Lian Jue.
“Hello, Mr. Please blow it up.”
Lian Jue frowned and finally took a breath.
After that, Lian Jue and the traffic police held their breath and looked at the alcohol tester in front of them – nothing happened.
Lian Jue secretly breathed a sigh of relief and the tense nerve also relaxed, stretching his eyebrows.
The traffic policeman looked down at the alcohol tester that showed no abnormality in his hand and looked at Lianjue suspiciously, probably seeing that he hesitated for too long just now that he was suspected of guilty conscience and whispered something to his colleagues.
Another traffic policeman apparently smelled the alcohol on him and exchanged an alcohol tester with the person next to him. He handed it to Lian Jue again, saying to him, “Please show your driver’s license and ID card.”
A second test still showed that the driver did not drink alcohol. After the traffic police verified the identity information. They returned the driver’s license and ID card to Lian Jue, feeling strange again and looked at the detector in his hand.
An unnatural look flashed across Lian Jue’s face, knowing that the explanation was redundant, he still wanted to cover up and said, “I sprayed some perfume in the morning.”
The traffic policeman wrinkled his nose and said, “Okay, thank you for your cooperation.” After speaking, he seemed helpless and added another sentence, “Your perfume smells of too much alcohol.”
