Ni Jiu (Intoxicated) - Chap 85
From the moment Lian Jue received the call, countless thoughts flashed through his mind and all his messy thoughts came to a standstill when Shen Tingwei’s sentence “When are you coming to pick me up and go home,” fell.
He picked up the key and rushed out of the house in a hurry without even having time to explain the reason why he went out to Kang Tong, who was chasing after him.
At this moment, he seemed to feel that all the calmness over the years was just unreal him. It was Shen Tingwei who was waiting for him not far away, who woke him up from the haze of the past.
Lian Jue was almost unable to resist the urge to rush past at many intersections with red lights but in the end he was restrained by the thought of “Shen Tingwei is still waiting for him”. He counted the long seconds in the traffic lights and at the moment when the lights changed, he pressed the maximum speed of the current section of the road to the address that the little boy told him on the phone.
It seems that what he is going to rush to is not a long-awaited reunion but a fiery redemption.
He came with fiery and urgent emotions to save Shen Tingwei and himself.
Lian Jue parked the car on the side of the street where parking was forbidden at the entrance of the alley and rushed into the inconspicuous narrow alley in the bustling street.
The dim and warm yellow street lights slanted into the alley reflecting a soft halo on the bumpy ground underfoot.
His running slowed down in the narrow light and his footsteps stopped at the junction of light and shadow. He looked at Shen Tingwei, who seemed to have nothing to do with the excitement outside the alley under the thick shadow of the alley. The tight strings of the body suddenly loosened at this moment.
At every step of approaching Shen Tingwei, Lian Jue walked anxiously but slowly, as if the disappearance of these two short days had turned into an unbearable time which made Lian Jue become more and more in the moment facing Shen Tingwei. Unfamiliar and clumsy.
He tried his best to stabilize his fast heartbeat. Half of his face was hidden in the halo of darkness. He stared intently and greedily at the thin outline standing in the dark, for fear of making the wrong eye. Shen Tingwei might disappear under his eyes again.
“I’m here.” Lian Jue used an extremely hoarse and unsteady voice to break the sentence strangely, “I’m here to take you home.”
Shen Tingwei’s misty eyes seemed to be filled with bright light in the thick night. He flashed his eyelashes and met Lian Jue’s eyes, as if the eyelashes will hold the tears that could not be held back but he couldn’t hold back. It is really Lian Jue.
Lian Jue’s movement of taking off his coat stopped when he saw the coat on Shen Tingwei’s body, his warm and rough thumb wiped the wetness from Shen Tingwei’s cheeks. He suddenly touched Shen Tingwei’s cool and damp wetness like a dream. His hands held his cheek eager to confirm that the Shen Tingwei in front of him is real. Lian Jue held Shen Tingwei’s face, bowed his head and kissed his red eyes, the tears at the corners of his eyes and his trembling dry lips.
Shen Tingwei’s hot breath sprayed lightly and heavily on his face. He lightly rubbed his lips with a kiss. Lian Jue has a lot to say, such as where have you been running for the past two days? Kang Tong and I are very worried about you. I miss you very much.
In the end, after a shallow kiss, he only said one sentence and couldn’t stop trembling: “…I will accompany you every year in your future birthdays.”
Shen Ting nodded without force and said in a hoarse voice, “Okay.”
Maybe Shen Tingwei was really tired, he let go of his strength from the moment he saw him, clinging to him and reluctant to leave.
Lian Jue helped him close his coat tightly to cover his lower abdomen. When he hugged his shoulders and brought him back to the car, he suddenly recalled the Shen Tingwei whom he saw for the first time.
In the same pitiful appearance, with his eyes down. He said, “Go home.” in a low volume amid the noise of the traffic. Lian Jue only reacted after doing those absurd and bastard things to him. When he came over, he probably said, “Can you take me home?” Lian Jue during that time was full of doubts about him.
But what was different from before was that compared to the cold ‘rescuing’ at the beginning, there was a lot of sourness and compassion that overflowed from his heart at this moment. Compared with the trivial and bizarre things that happened to Shen Tingwei, he was more concerned about whether Shen Tingwei was safe or not.
Whether Shen Tingwei said some frivolous words or did some stupid and cute things, as long as Shen Tingwei was well and stayed by his side, he will feel rest assured.
Lian Jue helped him open the car door in the back seat, hugged him and got into the car. Without thinking, he went around to the other side of the car door and squeezed back to Shen Tingwei’s side.
Shen Tingwei heard him calling the driver and explained his address in a calm voice. Urging him to come over as soon as possible.
Shen Tingwei looked at Lian Jue’s still tense jawline and the muscle lines shown by his arms. He wanted to touch his arm to relax him but he just raised his hand. Lian Jue grabbed it tightly.
Lian Jue squeezed his hand tightly, signaled him to be more obedient with his eyes and continued to say to the driver on the other end of the phone in a calm tone: “South, let the doctor go there as soon as possible.”
After hanging up the phone, Lian Jue looked at Shen Tingwei, somewhat exaggeratedly alert: “How are you?”
Shen Tingwei looked at his hand and thought that he was a little too cautious. After crying for too long, his red and swollen eyes couldn’t help but bend and with a thick nasal voice, he said in a deep voice, “I’m hungry.” Wanting to arouse Lian Jue’s sympathy, he looked at him pitifully with a tone of coquettishness that he only shown in front of his mother before, “I haven’t eaten for two days and the baby is hungry too.”
Lian Jue was obviously hesitant for a while because of
his words. He quickly glanced out the car window. He saw the small pizza shop across the road that was about to close and not many people were queuing.
“Wait for me.” Lian Jue let go of his hand, pushed open the car door, looked at him and repeated in a deep voice, “Wait for me.”
Shen Tingwei nodded obediently, watched him close the car door, quickly ran across the road, stood at the window of a house where the light box at the door had been turned off and talked to the people inside.
Maybe the conversation went well. Shen Tingwei saw Lian Jue taking out his wallet from his pocket and without looking at it, he took out a few banknotes and placed them on the counter bluntly.
Shen Tingwei wanted to laugh a little but after laughing for a while, his nose was sore again.
Lian Jue is not good at expressing emotions but this strange and somewhat clumsy way makes Shen Tingwei’s heart flutter after suddenly fall into the ground these past few days.
It was obvious that Lian Jue, like him, had a bad time. The haggardness on Lian Jue’s face that was deliberately concealed made Shen Tingwei feel sad but also contradictedly made Shen Tingwei happy. After his family broke, he developed a sense of security that values him more than he imagined.
Shen Tingwei bit into the hot curled edge of the pizza in his hand, looked at the obviously dark stubble on Lian Jue’s chin, and said, “You’ve grown a beard.”
Lian Jue said, “Yeah,” and then added, “I’ll shave when I go back.”
“It looks good too.” Shen Tingwei couldn’t help but reached out and touched his stubbled chin. After thinking about it, he laughed again, “It’s better to shave it now and keep it when you’re old.”
Lian Jue grabbed his hand: “Okay.”
Shen Tingwei laughed sullenly: “You can’t help me cut my hair. I want to keep it for now.”
Lian Jue quickly picked up on his words: “Then let it grow longer and then cut it.”
Shen Tingwei looked at him and smiled for a while, without withdrawing his hand, he took a sip of the hot drink in Lian Jue’s hand, perhaps to make the atmosphere lighter, Shen Tingwei said casually, “Actually, I am a little bit like you. Not suitable.”
Lian Jue paused: “What?”
“Just answer me when I ask you anything, and you agree with everything I say.” Shen Tingwei looked up at him, smiling bitterly at the corners of his mouth, “It feels so weird, your personality is broken.”
Lian Jue seemed to be amused by his words. Although the corners of his mouth did not rise, he finally showed a little smile in his eyes: “What kind of person am I?”
Shen Tingwei pretended to think, “Uh–” for a while and then threw out a question: “Heartless?” Then he deliberately added, “Ruthless?”
Lian Jue didn’t expect him to say such words. He raised his eyebrows slightly at him, showing a somewhat unhappy look and then let go of his hand.
Shen Tingwei looked at his pretended indifferent expressionband tugged at his sleeve amusingly: “I find that you are quite childish sometimes.”
Shen Tingwei was obviously really hungry. Before the driver arrived, he finished the pizza with two hands in a polite manner. He then leaned on Lian Jue’s shoulder and felt a little sleepy.
The driver drove quietly on the driveway in the middle of the night. Shen Tingwei closed his eyes, feeling the breathing and temperature of Lian Jue beside him. Hearing his eased breathing, he could not help but whisper Lian Jue’s name.
When Lian Jue turned his head, his chin brushed the gauze wrapped around Shen Tingwei’s head: “What’s wrong?”
After a little silence, Shen Tingwei said softly, “I don’t have a home anymore.”
“I’ll give it to you.” Lian Jue answered without any hesitation while holding his hand that was cold for some reason, he said in a low voice, “I’ll take you home.”
