Silent Lover (The Silent Concubine) - Chap 80
Chapter 80 – The Utmost Disdain is Yearning
As winter transitioned into spring, the winter in the northern city lingered, with just a hint of snow melting.
Shen Yu’s clothes quickly became soaked by the melting snow, his knee nails covered in muddy stains, the icy water piercing his bones. Initially feeling like being cut by a knife, his hands soon grew numb, stiff and uncontrollable.
“Where is it… I clearly dropped it in this direction…”
Shen Yu sniffed, wiping away a bead of sweat from his nose. He used to handle chores like chopping firewood and fetching water effortlessly, but now even a little running made his legs weak and his sweat poured profusely.
“I’m so useless… I can’t even communicate in sign language. If I were him, I wouldn’t have the patience to watch a mute person gesturing aimlessly… If only I had written it down earlier… Then the Prince might have understood…”
Shen Yu reproached himself, as if he couldn’t do anything right.
Suddenly, Shen Yu’s eyes lit up. He saw a hint of red not far away, the color of red beans. He hurriedly reached out to grab it, only to grab a handful of snow, with a glaring crimson dot on it, but it wasn’t a red bean. Shen Yu didn’t know when his fingers were cut by the ice, dripping blood onto the ground.
Disappointed, Shen Yu brushed off the snow and crawled to another spot to search.
Prince Zhenbei leaned on the railing, watching Shen Yu’s frantic search with an affectionate gaze. The snow-covered ground was marked with his footprints and the imprints left by his kneeling.
Unperturbed, Prince Zhenbei returned to the sand table and inserted a flag on one side of the pass.
Half an hour later, just as Prince Zhenbei was about to leave, Shen Yu hurriedly ran back and stopped him.
Shen Yu held the recovered red bean dice, carefully presenting it to Prince Zhenbei.
It was stained with snow, mud, and traces of Shen Yu’s blood on his fingertips, looking dirty and messy.
Shen Yu’s fingers were numb from the cold, and the cuts didn’t cause much pain.
Looking at him, there wasn’t a clean spot on his body, covered in mud and water, even his hair and face were dirty.
Beneath the dirt was Shen Yu’s smiling face, which he often used when pleading.
“This isn’t just child’s play. I spent many days and nights carving 152 red beans. Take a look, the words ‘Jun Xuan Xiao’ were also taught by you…”
Shen Yu had many explanations in his heart, but he couldn’t articulate them. He could only make incomprehensible sounds, as he usually didn’t dare to speak. When he tried to speak in his childhood, he was laughed at, but now Shen Yu was already in a sorry state and didn’t care whether Prince Zhenbei laughed at him or not.
“That’s enough.”
With a flick of Prince Zhenbei’s hand, the red bean dice fell to the ground with a snap. Shen Yu immediately squatted down to pick it up, but Prince Zhenbei stepped on it before he could, crushing it with his boot.
Crack-
There was a voice in Shen Yu’s heart, accompanying the sound of the red bean dice shattering into pieces.
“Don’t ever make these kinds of things again!”
Prince Zhenbei said coldly, then strode away from the Ice Heart Pavilion. The red bean dice was crushed under his foot, scattered all over the ground.
Shen Yu lay on the ground, using his hands to gather the fragments. Because they were too small, he couldn’t pick them up, so he spread his clothes on the ground and used his hands to sweep them in.
He opened his mouth but couldn’t make a sound, his facial features twisted, emitting a low, muffled sound.
Prince Zhenbei stopped in his tracks. Although he had seen Shen Yu shed tears before, he had never heard him cry. When Shen Yu’s hand was severed in the past, he writhed in pain from the poison fed to him by the Princess, but never cried out.
It turned out that even a mute could cry, and it sounded desolate.
