Special Effects Pheromone - Chap 14
Mrs. Qu’s words silenced everyone at the table. There was a slight displeasure on their faces as they all looked towards the host of the banquet—Duan Keyi.
Duan Keyi gave a slight smile, trying to ease the tension. “Just kidding—haha, Mrs. Qu, please take a seat!”
“I’m an independent woman and don’t use my husband’s surname,” Mrs. Qu Jing’s mother, Jiang Huixi, said with a hint of sarcasm.
“Oh, sorry about that. Ms. Jiang,” Duan Keyi smiled, “please have a seat.”
Everyone sat down again, and the meal continued.
Jiang Huixi took a few sips of tea. Duan Keyi asked her how she found it. She replied, “It’s fine. Is this Bi Luo Chun?”
One of the ladies said, “Ms. Jiang has such a refined palate. You can even identify Bi Luo Chun?”
“Well, it’s okay,” Jiang Huixi said, “aren’t they all just tea leaves?”
“It’s not the same. Tea leaves are classified as good or bad. Moreover, if expensive tea leaves are brewed in cheap utensils with poor-quality water, the taste will also become cheap.”
“Indeed,” Jiang Huixi nodded, saying, “just like a beautiful exterior with a despicable soul inside will also become ugly.”
The lady’s face twisted.
After a while, a woman wearing a satin peach-colored qipao and gradient sequined high heels walked in—she seemed to be of some age but maintained her figure and skin well. She smiled and said, “Am I late?”
Duan Keyi chuckled, “Yes! We’ve already started eating.”
Duan Keyi then introduced Jiang Huixi. “This is Ms. Jiang, Jiang Huixi. This is General Qin, also an independent woman.”
After General Qin sat down, she talked animatedly about some frustrating things at work that made her late. Nobody brought up the topic of “work” and similar matters again. Instead, they engaged in friendly conversation.
Jiang Huixi found the conversation boring and just wanted to go home.
Unexpectedly, General Qin started chatting with Jiang Huixi, asking, “They don’t call you ‘Mrs.,’ but ‘Ms.’? Are you single?”
“No,” Jiang Huixi shook her head, “I’m married.”
Normally, Jiang Huixi didn’t mind being called “Mrs. Qu,” but here, she wanted to do something different, make a sarcastic remark to this group of “wives,” and draw a clear line.
General Qin said, “Oh, I see. So, you also have your own career?”
Jiang Huixi said somewhat embarrassed, “Not really, I’m just a school teacher.”
“That’s great, an intellectual!” General Qin seemed interested, “Which school do you teach at? Maybe my son also goes there?”
“I teach at XX High School,” Jiang Huixi said, paused, and added, “Your son is in high school?”
“Ah, my son graduated from university several years ago!” General Qin laughed heartily, “What about you? Do you have children?”
“I also have a son who graduated many years ago and is now in business.”
During this exchange, the two started talking about their respective sons. General Qin learned that Jiang Huixi’s son was Qu Jing and commented, “I know him, an outstanding young man! Your son is really successful!” Jiang Huixi modestly downplayed it. General Qin then complained about her own son, saying he was not accomplished, only interested in reading and drawing, and couldn’t be relied on for business matters. Finally, General Qin turned the conversation to matchmaking, revealing that her son was an OMEGA, and she worried about his marriage.
“OMEGA?” Jiang Huixi thought for a moment, laughed, and said, “OMEGA is quite noble, not to mention your distinguished son. You won’t have trouble finding him a match.”
General Qin replied, “Not necessarily. His eyes are on his forehead.”
With that, General Qin revealed her son’s pheromone information type, and to Jiang Huixi’s surprise, their sons’ pheromone information types matched. General Qin was immediately enthusiastic about matchmaking, and although Jiang Huixi felt something was off, she didn’t decline immediately. Instead, she left her contact information at General Qin’s insistence.
As the dinner ended, Duan Keyi escorted Jiang Huixi downstairs, expressing apologies. “Some of my acquaintances are quite outspoken. I hope you don’t mind.”
Jiang Huixi smiled and said, “No… I don’t mind.”
Although she said she didn’t mind, Jiang Huixi felt extremely uncomfortable. She found Duan Keyi peculiar, arrogant, and not someone she wanted to associate with. Most people in this social circle looked down on families like hers, and the air of superiority emanating from them disgusted Jiang Huixi.
Thinking about becoming in-laws with such a person and having to attend such gatherings frequently, she felt she might not be able to eat for ten days.
Considering the straightforward General Qin wanted to become in-laws with her, she thought, “In terms of being in-laws, General Qin is indeed better than Duan Keyi, right?”
The more she thought about it, the more uncomfortable she felt. Lost in contemplation, she walked out of the building and saw a young man standing in the lobby.
“Is this…?” Jiang Huixi paused, “Is it Yu Zhao?”
Seeing Jiang Huixi, Yu Zhao nodded with a smile, “Hello, Auntie! What a coincidence?”
“I came here for dinner.”
Yu Zhao smiled and said, “Me too. I’m about to leave, what about you?”
“I’m leaving too.”
“How coincidental. Let me drive you home?”
Of course, this wasn’t a coincidence; Yu Zhao had been waiting for this. Upon learning that Jiang Huixi was invited for dinner, he felt uneasy. However, since it was a gathering of the wives, he couldn’t interfere. Therefore, he could only wait downstairs, hoping for any changes.
Yu Zhao showed extra courtesy to Jiang Huixi, also trying to gather information from her to be prepared for any potential issues. In the car, he asked Jiang Huixi about the dinner and who she dined with. Jiang Huixi didn’t hide anything and truthfully said, “Your OMEGA dad invited me.”
“Really?” Yu Zhao’s face turned pale, “But… my OMEGA dad already… passed away.”
Jiang Huixi’s face also turned pale, “Really?!!!”
