Special Effects Pheromone - Chap 15
Yu Zhao replied, “It’s true.”
Jiang Huixi felt increasingly uneasy, her scalp tingling. “It’s impossible… then who did I see?”
Yu Zhao, driving, said, “Could it be a scam?”
“It’s not possible,” Jiang Huixi felt the situation didn’t resemble a scam, but added, “Do you know the name ‘Duan Keyi’?”
“Oh!” Yu Zhao suddenly realized, “You mean Mr. Duan! Ah, I didn’t think of it for a moment.”
Perplexed, Jiang Huixi looked at Yu Zhao, who casually smiled and said, “He is the OMEGA dad of my younger brother, also considered my OMEGA dad.”
Finding it odd, Jiang Huixi asked, “You and your younger brother don’t have the same OMEGA dad?”
“Yes. My OMEGA dad passed away early. Mr. Duan here is someone my ALPHA dad befriended later.” Yu Zhao smiled and continued, “I don’t call him dad; I just call him Mr. Duan. So, when you mentioned dad, I didn’t connect it.”
Jiang Huixi nodded and said, “Oh… I see.”
Yu Zhao drove to a white standalone villa – Jiang Huixi’s home. Seeing light through the windows, Jiang Huixi turned to Yu Zhao and said, “Why don’t you come in for a while?”
Yu Zhao declined, “It’s late; I won’t bother.”
“It’s not a bother; come up for tea.” Jiang Huixi insisted.
Yu Zhao no longer refused, parked the car in her garage, and entered the house with Jiang Huixi. The first floor was empty, and Jiang Huixi led Yu Zhao upstairs. When they reached the staircase’s turn, they heard Mr. Qu’s voice, “I think your blind date isn’t a decent person…”
Yu Zhao felt awkward upon hearing this. To avoid further embarrassment, he coughed twice and called out, “Auntie, walk up the stairs slowly.”
Mr. Qu and Qu Jing were sitting upstairs and heard Yu Zhao’s voice. They were somewhat surprised and stopped their previous conversation, looking up to see Yu Zhao and Jiang Huixi coming up the stairs.
“Why are you here too?” Qu Jing stood up, smiling. “And without a word?”
Yu Zhao greeted Mr. Qu with a smile and said to Qu Jing, “I ran into Auntie on the way and gave her a ride back.”
Mr. Qu said, “It’s convenient to get a taxi now; you don’t have to worry about this. It’s troublesome to go back and forth at this late hour.”
“Yeah,” Qu Jing nodded, “Why don’t you just stay at our place tonight?”
Yu Zhao shook his head and smiled, “No need; I still have to go back.”
“I suggested Yu Zhao come up for tea,” Jiang Huixi said.
Mr. Qu had nothing to say, snorted, picked up the remote control, turned on the TV, and didn’t talk to Yu Zhao. Yu Zhao felt awkward, but as long as he treated the other party as a client, it wouldn’t be too difficult. After all, with clients, such expressions were normal.
Yu Zhao accompanied Jiang Huixi to sit down and chatted for a while. She asked about his family situation, and thinking about a possible marriage, Yu Zhao, who couldn’t hide it, briefly introduced his complex family relationships. Mr. Qu, on the side, frowned, “Why is it so complicated?”
Jiang Huixi sneered, saying, “Weren’t you watching TV attentively? Why are you talking now?”
After chatting for a while, they suddenly heard thunder and saw a downpour outside the window. Jiang Huixi stood up, looked outside, and said, “With such a heavy thunderstorm, Yu Zhao, why not just stay overnight?”
Qu Jing nodded, saying, “I was thinking the same.”
Mr. Qu glanced coldly at Yu Zhao, his gaze like Bi Gan looking at Daji on TV.
Yu Zhao hesitated for a moment, considering the potential repercussions if he were seen by someone. However, with the mention of a guest room, he reluctantly agreed.
Jiang Huixi led him to the guest room, turned on the lights, and said, “Do you want to call home and let your family know?”
“No need,” Yu Zhao said, “They don’t pay much attention to me.”
In fact, the Yu family did care about their children. Even now, they would inform them if they stayed out overnight because they made it clear that they should have breakfast together as a family.
However, considering the current situation, Yu Zhao decided to show a side of the “neglected child.” “They don’t pay much attention to me. Maybe they won’t even notice if I don’t go home.”
Jiang Huixi, in a maternal tone, comforted him, patting his shoulder, and after a while, left. Watching Jiang Huixi leave, Yu Zhao sat down in the guest room, called home, and reported, “I went to the suburbs to meet a client today, and now there’s a thunderstorm. I won’t come back tonight.” This reason was convincing, and his father quickly agreed, “Then be careful. You don’t have to come back for breakfast tomorrow; just go to the company.”
After hanging up the phone, Yu Zhao lay down on the bed, ready to sleep, but his phone rang again. He picked it up and found it was a message from Qu Jing: “Come to my room.”
For people who say they are not casual, this is getting out of hand. —That’s what Yu Zhao thought.
Five minutes later, Yu Zhao still went to Qu Jing’s room. Looking at the walnut-colored door, he hesitated, fearing being seen. After thinking for a moment, he decided to leave, but unexpectedly, the door opened.
Wearing a blue pajama set, Qu Jing leaned against the door, looking at Yu Zhao with a half-smile.
Yu Zhao coldly said, “Why did you call me here?”
Qu Jing said, “To chat.”
“In your room?” Yu Zhao said in confusion.
“You’re already here.” Qu Jing said and pulled him into the room.
Caught off guard, Yu Zhao stumbled and fell onto Qu Jing’s chest, instantly catching a whiff of sandalwood.
Yu Zhao shivered, “How can I smell his pheromones…?”
He hurriedly checked his watch, realizing he should have changed his barrier patch thirty minutes ago. However, he had forgotten in the midst of talking with Auntie.
Realizing this, he nervously touched the back of his neck.
Qu Jing noticed him holding the barrier patch and laughed, “Alright, I promise not to touch your barrier patch today, okay?”
Yu Zhao helplessly said, “What do you want to talk to me about? Is it something important?”
Yu Zhao thought that calling him over so late without tearing off his barrier patch must mean there was something really important to discuss.
“Yeah, since you came all this way, take a look at this.” Qu Jing gestured to Yu Zhao. Yu Zhao walked to a corner of the room where there was a chair and a table with a computer and some books. Qu Jing took out a thick book from the desk drawer and handed it to him, saying, “Isn’t it customary to show this when your to-be husband visits for the first time?”
Yu Zhao was surprised, “A photo album?”
He opened the photo album and saw old pictures of Qu Jing. Intrigued, he sat down in the chair, and with it occupied, Qu Jing sat on the table, legs hanging over the edge, hands folded across his chest, idly looking at the ceiling. After a while, he lowered his head to look at Yu Zhao.
Yu Zhao, engrossed in the photo album, from Qu Jing’s perspective, had long, fluttering black eyelashes, quite charming.
Qu Jing couldn’t help but get a bit closer.
Yu Zhao suddenly felt the intense scent of sandalwood, and his heart began to beat rapidly.
He abruptly closed the photo album, saying, “I’ll look at it next time.”
Qu Jing stared at him for a while, saying, “Your face is so red.” He reached out to touch his forehead, “You’re burning up.”
Being touched by Qu Jing, a flush spread across Yu Zhao’s face, and his breath quickened.
Qu Jing, noticing Yu Zhao’s red face, rapid breathing, and feverish forehead, supported him, saying, “Are you running a fever?”
Holding onto his last bit of composure, Yu Zhao stubbornly denied, “Nonsense, I’m not feeling… flirtatious.”
