Special Effects Pheromone - Chap 39
Yu Zhao wore a beige knitted sweater with a light green scarf wrapped around his neck. Half of his face was buried in the scarf, looking a bit pale and tired. Qu Jing couldn’t help but touch his cold face and asked, “Why is your complexion so pale? Are you sick?”
“No,” Yu Zhao shook his head, “I just got off the plane and feel a bit tired.”
“Do you want to eat?” Qu Jing had to ask.
Yu Zhao shook his head and asked, “Haven’t you eaten yet?”
Qu Jing touched his forehead, feeling overwhelmed, “I had something. Well, sort of.”
Tang Ke, on the side, said, “Mr Qu has been worried about you all day and couldn’t eat anything!”
Yu Zhao was surprised, “Worried about me?”
Qu Jing cleared his throat and said, “Didn’t I miss your call? When I called back, I found your phone was off, so I got a bit worried.”
“Oh,” Yu Zhao nodded, “I boarded the plane, and I turned it off.”
“Now I understand,” Qu Jing nodded, “Let’s go. Did you eat well and rest on the plane?”
Yu Zhao said, “I had the airplane meal, it was okay, just a bit tired.”
Qu Jing suggested, “Then let’s go back and rest.”
Since Yu Zhao mentioned feeling tired but not hungry, Qu Jing took him back to the hotel suite, preparing to get some sleep. Little did they know, they wouldn’t sleep, they only became more tired, sweating profusely and gasping for breath.
After being intimate, they finally rested together.
Exhausted, they had no energy to think about the significant issue of “my fiancé might be angry.” They immediately fell asleep like two pigs – no, wait, it should be like two well-fed pigs.
In the morning, thanks to the ringing of the room service bell, they woke up in the early morning. Otherwise, they might have slept until midday, and then Tang Ke would have come knocking on the door, scolding the boss for “neglecting his duties.”
The doorbell woke up Qu Jing, and he habitually got out of bed, put on slippers, and went to the living room, saying, “Bring it in.”
The room service pushed in a food cart and set down breakfast. Qu Jing suddenly remembered that Yu Zhao was here, and there was only one serving of breakfast. He said, “Bring another one.”
The room service agreed and left.
Later, Yu Zhao, looking a bit dazed, walked out of the bedroom. Qu Jing looked at him; he was wearing a loose robe, and his shoulders were not as well-protected by a suit as usual. Therefore, the morning light coming in through the window fell directly on his collarbone, making Qu Jing feel like he was shining brighter than anything else.
This was the first time Qu Jing had seen Yu Zhao waking up in the morning.
Although they had many exciting nights together, they had never experienced such a peaceful morning.
Qu Jing felt happy from the bottom of his heart, pulled out a chair, and said, “Breakfast is ready.”
Yu Zhao looked at the food on the table, frowned, and asked, “Why is there only one portion?”
“We were too tired last night, right?” Qu Jing said, “I forgot to tell them to bring an extra one for this morning.”
Yu Zhao nodded and said, “I’ll wash my face first. Let’s wait for them to bring it up together.”
Yu Zhao turned and walked into the bathroom. He lowered his head, splashed water on his face, and when he looked up at the mirror, he saw Qu Jing shaving. Somehow, this scene made him blush and his heart beat faster.
After washing up, when the room service brought another breakfast, Qu Jing gave Yu Zhao the new one, and he ate the one that had cooled down. Yu Zhao sat down and started eating breakfast slowly, one bite at a time.
Qu Jing looked at him and said, “By the way, are you not feeling well?”
“Hmm?” Yu Zhao didn’t understand, “Why do you ask?”
Qu Jing explained, “I heard from your company that you took sick leave…”
“Oh…” Yu Zhao understood and said, “I took sick leave because it’s not convenient to take personal leave on short notice. I wasn’t actually sick.”
“That’s good then,” Qu Jing nodded, adding, “Did you rush over because I didn’t answer your call?”
Partly, thought Yu Zhao.
This morning, drinking orange juice and eating a European-style breakfast, Yu Zhao came to his senses. Flying to the United States just because his fiancé didn’t answer five calls seemed strange.
Maybe he would think he’s neurotic?
Duan Keyi wouldn’t do something like this!
Feeling embarrassed, Yu Zhao said, “Well… mainly for some other things.”
“What things?” Qu Jing asked, concerned. Seeing Yu Zhao so calm and collected, suddenly rushing to the United States must be due to something urgent!
Yu Zhao wiped his mouth with a napkin, straightened up, and said, “It’s to apologize to you.”
“Huh?” Qu Jing was extremely surprised. “For what?”
Yu Zhao blinked, looked at Qu Jing, and said, “I caused some trouble… I thought the PR team took care of it for you?”
“Oh…” Qu Jing suddenly realized, “Yes, it was me.” Putting down the knife and fork, he crossed his fingers under his chin and thought for a moment, “But why are you apologizing?”
Yu Zhao furrowed his brows, feeling a bit anxious, “Actually, both Lena and Gao Bohua are just clients. What was captured was just a regular social event…”
“I know,” Qu Jing nodded, “If this kind of thing is considered a ‘scandal,’ then someone might as well stake out my ‘scandal.’ I’m in the business world, and this is very normal. I completely trust you.”
“I completely trust you” – when Yu Zhao heard this, his whole body felt warm, but he didn’t know why.
Qu Jing continued, “This matter has been resolved. But if we don’t solve the problem at its root, this kind of thing might happen again.”
Yu Zhao frowned, “What do you mean?”
“Do you know who did this?”
“I can guess,” Yu Zhao replied, “Is it… is it Duan Keyi?”
Qu Jing sneered, “I’ve long seen that he doesn’t want us to get married. However, he is still an elder, and he comes from a wealthy family. We can’t confront him directly.”
“True,” Yu Zhao nodded, “We can’t openly break ties with him either.”
“Yes, so I have a way to solve this problem without ‘openly breaking ties,’” Qu Jing said.
“What way?” Yu Zhao was quite interested, leaning forward and looking at his fiancé seriously.
“He did all this just to prevent us from getting married, right?” Qu Jing tapped his finger joints on the table, “So let’s go to Vegas and get married today. He will have no move left.”
“Huh?” Yu Zhao’s eyes widened.
Thirty minutes later, Yu Zhao and Qu Jing sat in a limo, and Tang Ke opened a bottle of champagne for them.
Qu Jing smiled, took the champagne, and clinked glasses with Yu Zhao.
Yu Zhao’s head was still dizzy, and after a while, he said, “Is today an auspicious day?”
Qu Jing looked confused, picked up his phone, opened the Auspicious Days app, and saw “Avoid Marriage” on the screen.
Both of them were stunned.
Tang Ke hurriedly said, “No problem, this is in American time. According to Chinese time, it’s still an auspicious day!”
Qu Jing nodded quickly, “Yes, we Chinese have Chinese hearts, living in Chinese time!” Saying that, Qu Jing clinked glasses with Yu Zhao again, “To China!”
Yu Zhao didn’t understand Qu Jing’s sudden patriotic sentiment but still raised his glass and drank.
When the limo stopped outside the church, Yu Zhao and Qu Jing got off, feeling like they were walking on cotton, their eyes sparkling. The church, aside from the clergy and Tang Ke, had no one else. But they didn’t care, their faces flushed with champagne, their eyes shining like children looking at candies.
The priest’s words sounded like they were echoing, like God was speaking, solemn and gentle, “We are gathered here today in the sight of God… from this day forward, forever and ever, Amen.”
Forever in love, Amen.
