Special Effects Pheromone - Chap 5
Qu Jing was a very busy man.
How busy was he, you might ask?
Qu Jing’s secretary, Tang Ke, jokingly said, “Since following Mr. Qu, I don’t even know what jet lag is anymore. Mr. Qu has his own time zone!”
And it wasn’t an exaggeration; they lived by Tokyo time, London time, and New York time, depending on where they needed to be.
Right now, their focus was on New York, so they were operating on New York time.
Qu Jing swiftly handled the matter at hand, which was just a minor issue concerning stock options. He had a brief discussion with the local counterpart and completed the task. Their business partners also invited him to a dinner party, and he naturally accepted the invitation.
The party was a lavish affair with music and dance, and it featured numerous attractive OMEGAs who were quite vulnerable to ALPHAs with strong pheromones.
Qu Jing arrived at the event and told his secretary, Tang Ke, “I won’t be drinking tonight.”
Tang Ke nodded understandingly, took a champagne glass from a server, poured out the champagne, and filled it with pear tea. The tea looked like champagne and no one would notice the difference.
Qu Jing was a cautious person, especially in his private social interactions. He knew he had an abnormally high concentration of pheromones, which could be both a blessing and a curse.
Tang Ke handed Qu Jing the glass filled with pear tea, and Qu Jing smiled. Holding the seemingly safe “champagne,” he engaged in conversations with others about foreign weather and the global economy.
Their business partners introduced Qu Jing to an OMEGA, a young man named Xia Ling. He had striking features with a face like an apple, lips like cherries, and exuded the sweet scent of ripe summer fruits.
“This is Xia Ling,” the business partner introduced, “and he’s from China, just like you. He’s an intern here, very intelligent, and a quick learner. He’s been an admirer of yours for a long time, knowing you were coming, he was eager to attend this event.”
Xia Ling smiled at Qu Jing, his apple-red cheeks giving him an adorable look.
Qu Jing nodded politely and replied, “That’s very flattering; we always welcome talented individuals like yourself at our company.”
Xia Ling smiled gently. He knew he was good-looking and how to make his smile look its best, with shallow dimples, making it his most attractive feature.
Qu Jing’s glass of tea was empty, but Tang Ke had gone to the restroom. Xia Ling noticed and said, “Your glass is empty; shall I refill it for you?”
Qu Jing waved his hand and replied, “Oh, no need. I’ll wait for my secretary to come back.”
Before he could finish speaking, a man handed him a glass of wine and said, “Mr. Qu, care for a drink?”
Qu Jing glanced at the man and saw a seemingly scentless OMEGA with a poker face—Yu Zhao.
Qu Jing had seen Yu Zhao three times in the past two days, and he realized that Yu Zhao never emitted any scent when he was out in public.
This surprised Qu Jing because he had smelled Yu Zhao before.
Yu Zhao’s pheromones were extremely intense, with a fragrance that flowed like deep water, extending two or three feet.
However, in his daily life, Yu Zhao didn’t emit any scent, behaving like an Omega suffering from Scent Suppression Syndrome, with a cold gaze and lack of interest.
Yet in reality, it was quite the opposite.
Qu Jing took the glass of wine that Yu Zhao offered and took a sip, effectively breaking his “no alcohol” rule for the evening.
“Mr. Yu, you’re here too?” Qu Jing said with a smile.
Yu Zhao nodded and replied, “What a coincidence.”
Xia Ling, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, couldn’t help but feel a little displeased. However, he put on a smile and said, “Why don’t you introduce us? Is this your friend, Mr. Qu?”
Qu Jing choked on his words, “Ahem…”
Xia Ling was astonished and couldn’t help but take a closer look at Yu Zhao. He appeared to be an attractive man, but he was like an ice sculpture, devoid of vitality or charm. He didn’t emit even a hint of a seductive scent. All Xia Ling could detect was the scent of shampoo mixed with conditioner. Was this Yu Zhao’s pheromone? If it was, then he was truly uninteresting.
Xia Ling relaxed a bit and remarked, “This can’t be a joke, can it? Mr. Qu, who is so outstanding, still needs to go on blind dates?”
“I’m outstanding, and I need to go on blind dates,” Yu Zhao replied. “Why wouldn’t he?”
Yu Zhao’s tone was consistently lukewarm, making it hard to feel pleased when listening to him.
Xia Ling then said, “If Mr. Qu wanted to find a partner, there should be people lining up for the opportunity, shouldn’t there?”
After some thought, Yu Zhao responded seriously, “There are people lining up on my end as well.”
Xia Ling didn’t anticipate Yu Zhao’s response and was momentarily lost for words. It was Qu Jing who laughed and asked, “May I inquire as to where the line is forming?”
Yu Zhao was about to answer when his phone rang, and he furrowed his brows, excusing himself to take the call. Xia Ling seized the opportunity to approach Qu Jing and suggested, “Mr. Qu, would you like to see the view from the balcony? It offers the best cityscape.”
Qu Jing nodded and followed Xia Ling to the other side to enjoy the view.
Meanwhile, Yu Zhao took a work-related call. When he finished and looked around, he noticed that both Qu Jing and Xia Ling had disappeared.
At that moment, Hua Yao approached and asked, “It seems they’ve gone up to the rooftop. Should we go check it out?”
“No need,” Yu Zhao replied. “You shouldn’t pursue clients too aggressively.”
Hua Yao sighed in resignation. “But they are an ALPHA with intense pheromones and a particularly alluring OMEGA. Aren’t you worried about them getting into trouble and messing your plan up?”
Yu Zhao asked, “What kind of trouble do you think they could get into? Do you think they’ll register their marriage on the rooftop?”
Hua Yao looked surprised. “What if they become involved with each other?”
Yu Zhao said, “Would that affect their assets?”
Hua Yao was puzzled. “No, it wouldn’t, but aren’t you concerned about anything other than property?”
Yu Zhao was equally puzzled. “Why else would I pursue him?”
