Stringy Wind in the Ear - Chap 18
As Song Yang was about to run out of the yard, he suddenly remembered that he was wearing a pajama set. The clothes were bought by his grandma. They were dark blue in color with a teddy bear pattern. They looked very childish and did not fit his image as an adult man at all.
He rushed back to the bedroom and changed into a new short-sleeved shirt and pants. The clothes looked crisp and energetic on him for the first time.
Li Huiying was working on data in the study room when she heard hurried footsteps. She shouted at the top of her voice, “Slow down! The stairs are about to collapse. What are you doing in such a hurry?”
“My uncle called me for something.”
Li Huiying said “Oh” at first, pushed up her glasses, and then realized, “Where did your uncle come from? Is it Li Xun?”
The little guy has run away.
There are three parks in the community, one big and two small. One is closer to Teacher Sun’s home, and the smaller one is closer to Song Yang’s home.
They didn’t agree on a place in advance, but Song Yang wanted to try his luck, so he went to the small park closest to his home.
The heat was not as strong as during the day, but it was still a bit stuffy. The cicadas in the trees were chirping endlessly, and occasionally there was the sound of a wild cat jumping out from the bushes.
It was already very late and there was no one in the park. Song Yang was about to walk to another park when he noticed that there seemed to be a little shadow over the slide.
He walked towards it uncertainly, and the shadow grew larger, and then he smiled.
“You are here indeed.”
Li Xun stood up from the slide and patted his pants. On the pedal of the slide was a long box, wrapped in beautiful gift paper and tied with a dark green bow.
This looks like a gift prepared in advance.
Song Yang’s joy was hard to suppress and rushed to his eyebrows.
He thought Li Xun would say something like “This is the gift I bought for you” or “Congratulations on getting into your ideal university”, and he had already prepared a bunch of thank-you speeches, but the other party just said “hmm” and handed the box to him. This exclamation only reminded him to take it quickly, as if there was something dirty in it and he wanted to get rid of it early.
The object was a bit heavy. Song Yang shook it close to his ear and heard only a slight friction sound. He judged based on its size: “Is it an arrow?”
“You’ve guessed all this, how boring.” Li Xun leaned against the slide.
“Hehe, then I’ll pretend I don’t know. I’ll untie it now.” Song Yang untied the ribbon.
Li Xun held him down and said, “Go back and take it apart.”
“Why? What’s the difference between dismantling it now and going back to dismantle it?”
Li Xun scratched his hair in silence, looking somewhat embarrassed. After a while, he managed to squeeze out a sentence from between his teeth: “I wrote a few words inside, take it back and read it.”
Song Yang laughed out loud, and asked expectantly, “Is it corny?”
Li Xun didn’t respond, but looked at the silent night sky. He hadn’t paid attention to the stars in the sky for a long time. There were not as many as when he was a child, but there were two planes with flashing lights flying by.
Song Yang leaned against him holding the gift and looked out in the direction he was looking.
No one spoke, but they didn’t feel awkward. A breeze blew by, and Song Yang smelled a fresh citrus scent coming from the laundry detergent that had been touched by the scorching sun.
The smell has changed, but it smells better than before.
“There are so many stars tonight.” Song Yang couldn’t help but sigh.
“Really?” Li Xun looked up, propping his arms up on a step, “Why do I feel so thin?”
“Usually there aren’t so many. I used to count them often, and there were only about ten. Today I couldn’t count them all,” said Song Yang.
“Then our pasts were very different. I’ve seen more than this.” Li Xun gestured with a small circle, “and to the naked eye, each one is this big.”
Song Yang’s eyes widened, “Really?”
“Of course,” Li Xun said, “I’ve even seen meteor showers.”
“Wow… where did you meet? Your hometown?”
“No, during the training camp on the plateau, we trained very late, around nine o’clock, and suddenly a star passed by, like a star in the sky falling.” Li Xun said, raising his hand to gesture the appearance of a shooting star passing by, “and then they fell down one by one.”
Song Yang had never been to the plateau, so his eyes lit up when he heard this: “Have you made a wish?”
“of course.”
Song Yang was quite surprised when these three words came out of Li Xun’s mouth: “You don’t look like someone who would believe in such a thing…”
“Little brat,” Li Xun stood up and clapped his hands, “There are many things you can’t see.”
Song Yang frowned: “I told you I’m an adult!”
“You’re still a kid in front of me.” Li Xun walked back and turned his head. “It’s getting late. You should go back and rest.”
“oh.”
Before Li Xun had gone far, Song Yang couldn’t wait to untie the bow. He really couldn’t wait to go home.
But he was afraid that the slide would be dirty, so he sat on a park bench and put the gift on his lap.
The street light above his head just happened to illuminate the small corner where he was. The adult man rubbed his hands and happily opened the cardboard box. It was a pure black earthquake-resistant suitcase. He couldn’t help but exclaimed “Wow”.
In the suitcase lay a brand new set of competitive recurve bows, with a cobalt blue handle that had a metallic sheen and black limbs. A set of sea blue carbon arrows were stuck in the sponge pad on the other side of the box, matching the color of the handle.
A brand new bow and arrow is like a computer that has just been unsealed. It has a strange but not unpleasant smell.
Song Yang raised the corners of his mouth and gently stroked them with his fingertips.
At this moment, they were more precious than the works of art displayed in the museum and more delicate than the roses covered with dew. He did not dare to take them out too hard, but just admired them quietly.
Just looking at him makes me feel satisfied.
A dead leaf floated down from the tree, he reached out to brush it off, and then was surprised to find that the shafts of these arrows were all printed with the initials of his name!
It’s custom made!
He raised his head and took in deep gulps of the spiritual energy from heaven and earth, trying to calm himself down, but his heart was still pounding and his brain took the initiative to start a grand fireworks party.
If you can’t control it, then don’t control it.
He held the gift and grinned for a long time.
If conditions allowed, we would be setting off real fireworks now.
He wanted to yell to vent his anger, but there were residents all around him, so he had to get up and jog around the park twice, then said to a wild cat, “I received a gift!”
The wild cat stared at him with its round eyes, motionless, and repeatedly jumped between the options of running away and continuing to look for “game”. It had been running around the park for so many years, and this was the first time it encountered such a mentally retarded person.
When Song Yang came over and told him that “this matter started from a game ten years ago”, it could no longer bear it and gave up the “wild game”.
Song Yang made a “tsk” sound and yelled at the cat, “I haven’t finished talking yet, you are such a rude cat!”
He could not suppress the joy in his heart, so he took out an arrow and kissed it devoutly several times in the moonlight.
Little did they know that another adult man turned back after walking fifty meters, secretly hiding behind a bush to admire it all, laughing so hard that his cheeks were sore but he didn’t dare to make a sound, and he bit his lower lip and got a bruise on his leg from mosquito bites.
After returning home with the gift, Song Yang suddenly remembered something. He had not yet seen the words that Li Xun said.
He originally thought it was something like a greeting card that he accidentally dropped on the road, so he went back along the same route to look for it, but he couldn’t find it after searching for almost an hour. He sent a message to Li Xun with a sad face.
Li Xun said, if it was lost, it was lost, there were only a few words anyway.
Song Yang was so upset about this that he couldn’t sleep, and he forced Li Xun to write another one, but Li Xun refused.
It was not until many days later that the accessories Song Yang ordered online arrived one by one. He took out the bow handle and found a line of inconspicuous small words engraved on the handle.
“Dreams never die, let’s do happy things together.”
