Stringy Wind in the Ear - Chap 4
–class……
Li Xun smiled from the bottom of his heart when he received this message.
Unexpected, but seems to be under control.
So I followed Song Yang’s suggestion and recommended a single timed experience class, which was cheap and the hall would arrange a coach to give a simple explanation.
That night, he did not receive any reply from Song Yang.
There were too many things going on at home, so Li Xun turned around and forgot about it until the Mid-Autumn Festival, when he ran into Song Yang again at the entrance of the archery hall.
To be precise, it is seeing.
Song Yang was handing out flyers on the roadside. He was wearing a light green hooded sweatshirt and a beige baseball cap on his head. This color combination would not work on someone with darker or yellower skin, but it took on a different look on Song Yang.
He has very fair skin and walks briskly, with a bounce in his step, like a vigorous young seedling. Perhaps because he looks good, the little girls who pass by will take him from him.
Li Xun picked up a leaflet that had fallen on the ground and realized it was a flyer for the archery hall.
Song Yang was explaining the course to a couple and didn’t notice him.
“The one outside, is he new here?” Li Xun asked casually when he went to the front desk to pour water.
“Oh, yes. He came the night before yesterday and left after two hours. There were many people here today during the Mid-Autumn Festival, so he came early in the morning.”
“How old is he? Doesn’t he go to school?” Li Xun asked.
“He’s a day student. He said his family is poor and he needs to earn money to pay for his tuition. So his boss asked him to hand out flyers or something.” The girl at the front desk took out a bag of snacks from the drawer and handed it to him. She looked expectant. “Want to eat?”
Li Xun picked out a cartoon-patterned lollipop that Chu Zhi would probably like, “Thanks.”
The receptionist smiled and said, “Come back for more after you finish eating. You’re welcome.”
Although Song Yang is a temporary worker, his task is not as simple as distributing flyers. When there are many students, he has to help the coach pull out arrows.
There is a saying circulating in the archery gym: shooting arrows is fun, but pulling out the arrows is a funeral procession. Some of the wealthier clients bring their own high-pound compound bows. The archery gym’s range is short, so one arrow can almost go through the straw target. The coach’s expression when pulling out the arrows is the same as when playing tug-of-war.
Song Yang was arranged to the second floor. The one on the east side was a practice room exclusively for VIPs, and the one on the west side was a special training area under the jurisdiction of Li Xun. The two areas were separated by only a glass wall, with a door in the middle for everyone to pass through.
The school is closed today and many children are sent by their parents to attend classes to prepare for a youth archery competition in October.
Song Yang had nothing to do so he sat on the sidelines and watched the archery practice next door. Li Xun’s teaching methods were varied, sometimes he threw balloons, sometimes he made noise for everyone. It was only because the sound insulation effect of the glass wall was too good that he could not hear Li Xun’s voice clearly. He could only judge whether he was angry or happy from his eyes and expression.
Most of the time, his expression was blank, just like when he was shooting arrows.
“Hey, come here and pull out the arrow.” A man in a black T-shirt shouted, and Song Yang immediately came back to his senses and stood up.
This man is a regular customer of the store. This time he brought two friends to play. Each of them had a bow and a set of arrows. In each round, he would wait until everyone had finished shooting before calling him. This time, Song Yang saw that the short man still had a few arrows in his quiver, so he asked, “Do you want to shoot more? Or I’ll pull them out after you finish shooting.”
Before the dwarf could respond, the man in the black T-shirt said impatiently, “Just pull it out when I tell you to. Why are you talking so much nonsense?”
Song Yang curled his lips and walked towards the target silently.
These guys were using high-pound compound bows, the kind that could be used to hunt wild animals. The arrows were stuck very tightly, and he put one foot on the wall and used both his hands and feet to exert force.
There was a burst of whispers behind him at first, and then there was a strange laugh, which lasted for a long time. He had a very uncomfortable feeling – they were probably laughing at the way he pulled out the arrow.
Song Yang didn’t look back. He put his legs down and changed to a less awkward position.
He held three arrows in his hands and was about to shoot when he heard someone shouting from behind: “What are you doing? Put down your bow!”
It was a familiar voice. He turned around and found that Li Xun was actually running over from next door.
“Didn’t you see there’s someone on the other side? What you’re doing is very dangerous.” Li Xun said this to the customer. His voice was not as loud as before. Song Yang couldn’t hear it clearly, so he continued to work.
The man in the black T-shirt looked Li Xun up and down, sneered with disdain, said nothing, then inserted the tail of the arrow into the nock, and made a posture ready to shoot – while Song Yang was still pulling arrows from the target next to him.
Li Xun snatched the arrow from him and almost roared, “Don’t you understand what I’m saying?”
Song Yang was startled by his shout.
The dwarf next to him interrupted: “How can you talk like that? Why are you so fierce? We didn’t do anything.”
“I haven’t done anything yet.” Li Xun glanced at the black T-shirt and pointed at the opposite wall. “Are your eyes on your face just for decoration? I can’t read the words on them?”
The arrow is not pointed at anyone, so pull it out together.
It was impossible for anyone not to see the big red banner. Li Xun suspected that these people came here deliberately to seek excitement by relying on their status as guests.
Sure enough, the man in the black T-shirt sneered and said, “I have been practicing for many years. Let alone him pulling arrows from my friend’s target, even if he stands on my archery path, I can guarantee that I can shoot past him and hit the target. If you don’t believe me, let him stand on me and try.”
“Can you guarantee it? Your guarantee is useless!” Li Xun was irritated by him, “This is a shooting range, not a place for you to play around! Now that you are here, you must abide by our rules and respect our employees! Our coaches will remind every guest who comes here, even if your eyesight is not good, you still have ears, right? Or is your brain not working well?”
The man in the black T-shirt glared: “Do you know who I am?”
“I don’t care who you are!” Li Xun was not afraid at all, and raised his voice again, “If you are really capable, just go to the shooting range by yourself and shoot whatever you want. Don’t fucking talk nonsense to me here. If you dare to point at anyone again, I will call the police.”
“Why are you still swearing!” A burly man with tattoos all over his arms pointed at Li Xun, “What’s your name? I’m going to complain to your boss about you!”
Li Xun ignored him and shouted from a distance: “Song Yang, you’ve been pulling out arrows for so long, can you be more efficient?”
Song Yang was stunned. He thought they were going to fight and was ready to stop them, but he was suddenly called out and was a little at a loss.
“My, my…” He pointed at the target and said stutteringly, “It’s a little hard to pull out. The arrow went too deep.”
Li Xun walked over and saw him holding the arrow in one hand and pressing the target with the other. When he exerted force, blue blood vessels burst out on his forearm.
Song Yang leaned over and asked in a low voice: “Aren’t you afraid that they will really complain about you? Will your salary be deducted?”
“I don’t know, I haven’t tried it.” Li Xun had a blank expression.
Although it was Song Yang’s first time working, he could sense that those people were not easy to deal with. He said nervously, “Don’t worry, I will explain it to the boss for you. If they deduct your salary, it will be my fault…”
Li Xun laughed lightly and said nothing, but the corners of his mouth were curved, which did not sound like sarcasm.
Song Yang: “Don’t take my words lightly, I am serious.”
Li Xun raised his eyes with interest. Song Yang’s eyes were frank and sincere, like a little animal.
“Don’t think too much about it,” Li Xun said lightly, “I’m not saying that about him because of you.”
“Then why are you here next door?”
Li Xun choked.
Song Yang looked at him as if asking, “Were you secretly staring at me?”
“…”
“What are you guys doing there talking about love?” the dwarf yelled, “Hurry up!”
