The Abandoned Wife’s Rebirth - Chap 14
Wu Ruo caught the big white egg in a flurry of arms and legs, and asked doubtfully: “My egg?”
If there were any whites in Ji Xi’s eyes, he would’ve flipped them
at Wu Ruo: “I took it from between your thighs, if it’s not the egg that you gave birth to, who else could it belong to?”
“What?” Wu Ruo looked at him with a face full of shock: “You took it from between my thighs?!”
Shit
!
He must be kidding, right?
Ji Xi was too lazy to explain any further, and simply vanished from the room with a spin of his body.
Wu Ruo called out anxiously, holding onto the egg: “Hey, hey! You should explain it to me clearly before you go!”
He was a person, how could he lay an egg?
Could it be that Ji Xi was retaliating to the fact that Wu Ruo had accidentally summoned him, and was trying to trick him with this big white egg?
However, according to what he understood of Ji Xi, the other was not someone who liked to tease and taunt people. So, could this egg really be his?
But how did it come about?
This matter could only be clarified when Ji Xi came back, and he believed that Ji Xi would come back to look for him.
Wu Ruo tried using his spiritual energy to feel around at the living thing inside the egg, but only managed to see that it was a white ball of flesh within the egg.
At this point, Hei Xuanyi pushed his way into the room through the door, entering the inner room with hurried footsteps. His gaze swept across the entire room: “A Mo came by?”
From the main house, he had felt the energy of a Mo emanating from the residential quarters and immediately hurried over.
“Hn
.” Wu Ruo didn’t hide it from him, and couldn’t hide it even if he wanted to: “He just appeared for a while and then left.”
Hei Xuanyi saw that nothing had happened to him, so he didn’t probe any further. Then, his gaze fell and stayed on the big white egg in his arms.
Wu Ruo noticed the focus of his attention, and suddenly felt like teasing him, so he handed the egg over to him: “This is your son that I just suffered a lot to give birth to. So, you have to be in charge of incubating and hatching him.”
Hei Xuanyi’s indifferent gaze became dumbfounded.
Wu Ruo found that his stupefied expression was quite cute, and couldn’t hold back, laughing with a “puchi
” sound: “Hahahaha, I’m just joking with you.”
It really was rare to be able to see any expression other than cold indifference on his face.
Hei Xuanyi: “…”
Wu Ruo only had to think of the image of Hei Xuanyi incubating the egg like a hen and he couldn’t stop himself from wanting to laugh.
After some time had passed, and he was just about done getting the laughter out of his system, he then asked: “What time is it now?”
“
Maoshi
.”
“Then I’ll have to trouble you to go outside and call some people to come and help me to bathe and change.”
Hei Xuanyi carried the egg out and passed it into Hei Gan’s hands: “Hatch this personally.”
Hei Gan: “…”
“My son.”
“!!!!!!!!!!” Hei Gan’s eyes widened and unconsciously tightened his grip on the big white egg in his arms.
He hadn’t heard wrongly, right? This egg was the master’s son?
Hei Xuanyi looked at his foolish expression and the corners of his lips couldn’t help but quirk up. He realised that teasing people sometimes was pretty fun. No wonder Wu Ruo wanted to tease him.
The master smiled! The master actually smiled! Hei Gan was stunned silly, eyes wide, again. Good heavens, he was actually blessed enough to be able to see the master’s smile in this lifetime. Had he gone blind? Or had the master been possessed by the Mo?
Hei Xuanyi very quickly stopped smiling and left with a turn of his body. However, after taking two steps, he turned back to take the egg back. Then, he left the residential quarters.
“…” the corners of Hei Gan’s eyes wrinkled, his heart full of excitement. Only after a while did he turn to the corpse servants and command them: “The lot of you, go in and serve the madam.”
“It’s okay, we’ll go!” When Wu Da and Wu Xiao who were just behind him heard, they hurried into the room.
When Wu Ruo saw them, his eyebrows twitched.
In his previous life, ever since he got married, every time when he woke up, he would have to “invite” both of them to come serve him repeatedly before they would show up. How come they were taking such initiative to come in now?
“Young Master,” Wu Da looked at him with a fawning expression.
Yet Wu Xiao’s expression was as if he’d been greatly wronged: “Young Master, do you not want us anymore?”
Could the young master be faulting them for coming back too late last night?
But, they couldn’t be blamed either. The carriage had broken, they had had to take it to be repaired.
Wu Ruo asked without batting an eyelid: “Why do you ask?”
“Bodyguard Hei sent 10 servants to our quarters.”
Wu Ruo laughed: “Isn’t it good that he sent some servants? From now on, the both of you can work a little less, and you can get them to run errands instead.”
Wu Da and Wu Xiao’s gazes brightened.
That’s right!
How could they not have thought of this? And just now, they’d still thought that the young master no longer wanted them.
Wu Ruo closed his eyes to hide the coldness in his gaze: “Wu Da, Wu Xiao, how many years have the both of you served me for?”
Wu Da immediately said: “12 years.”
“How fast, in a blink of the eye it’s been 12 years already.” Wu Ruo felt some sorrow in his heart. In 12 years, even if it was just raising a dog, it was still enough time to let the dog become loyal and devoted to him. Yet how did these two people before his eyes treat him?
“Yes, how fast. Thinking back on those years, when we met the young master, Young Master was only six years old, at that time…”
Wu Da wanted to lend on those years of affection to curry better relations, but he didn’t expect that Wu Ruo would speak up and cut off his words: “The two of you brothers are almost 25 years old too. If you were from a regular family, you would’ve already had hordes of children. It is about time for the both of you to be married as well.”
Wu Da and Wu Xiao were both stunned, delighted that things were even better than they’d expected, and because of that they didn’t notice Wu Ruo had started smiling; smiling in an absolutely strange and cold manner.
The phrase for rolling your eyes at someone in Chinese is to “flip the whites of your eyes” at someone.
大爷的 (da ye de): literally, 大爷 refers to your father’s older brother or is just a respectful way to refer to a male elder. However, Chinese people love to use their familial relations to curse/swear! Over here, it’s much more like when someone yells “shit!” to a terrible situation, so I’ve translated it like that in text and left the cultural nuances here in the footnotes.
嗯: the “hn” sound will appear often in the story. It’s a grunt/murmur sort of sound to indicate agreement to a previous statement or question. I have preserved it within the text as a cultural decision, because I don’t think any English form of “yes” encapsulates the meaning well enough.
In case you wanted to know what the onomatopoeia for snorting/laughter sounds like, it’s “puchi”. I left it in as a cultural choice again.
Wu Ruo actually asks for the 时辰 (shichen).
Maoshi
refers to the block from 5am to 6:59am.
