The moment Luo ZhouZhou jumped out of the car, he shivered at the temperature difference between inside and outside. Now it was night, and in the open, the temperature had dropped considerably. Here were endless fields, unharvested stalks of wheat rattling in the wind. One of the fields was illuminated by lights, and there were a lot of people around and the sound of walkie-talkies calling out.
“Chu Feng, over here.” Their parking drew the attention of the people, when someone raised his hand and called out to Chu Feng, sounding like Chen SiHan.
“General Chu.”
“Hello, General Chu.”
The group of people greeted him.
Luo ZhouZhou took a step to go that way, but was stopped by Chu Feng, “Wait a minute.”
As soon as he stopped, he was covered by a warm coat. Chu Feng, who was wearing only a white shirt, walked past him and said, “Let’s go, watch your step.”
Luo ZhouZhou followed behind him, tightening the uniform he was wrapped in. It was big, carrying the heat of Chu Feng’s body and the scent of woods after rain. He thought it was probably some kind of perfume, not a pheromone smell.
Luo ZhouZhou buried his head and put his nose to the neckline, smelling it, vaguely catching a whiff of a familiar pheromone that disappeared in an instant. His heart shuddered, and he couldn’t help but sniff it more intensely.
“What are you doing? You’re like a puppy.” Chu Feng stopped and waited for him, sounding a bit helpless.
Luo ZhouZhou was embarrassed by being seen and quickly took a few steps to catch up.
The field was not far from the road, and the stalks had been crushed to pieces. A police cordon has been set up around it, and a few villager-like people were being questioned.
“Officer, I’m really freaking out.”
“After dinner, I took a walk along the ridges to see my land, and saw what looked like a person lying there, white as a sheet. I thought it was a beggar sleeping here, so I called out a few times. When there was no movement, I went over to see. It scared me so bad I fell and hit my butt on the ground.”
…
When the police officers saw Chu Feng arrive, they all made way for them and saluted, and Luo ZhouZhou followed behind him, being surreptitiously eyed by curious gazes. At the entrance to the police line, Chu Feng said, “Wait for me here.”
Luo ZhouZhou smiled and stood still at his words.
Chu Feng took a few steps forward and then turned back, tugging him across the cordon with outstretched hands and fastening the rows of buttons on the uniform.
“Tsk tsk tsk.” Chen SiHan, who was squatting on the ground not far away, couldn’t stop smacking his lips, “It’s really enviable to have a little tail everywhere you go.”
The surrounding police officers also smiled knowingly.
When Luo ZhouZhou saw Chen SiHan, he remembered that he had thought he was his mate and nervously looked away, pretending not to see him.
“Give me the details.” Chu Feng took the gloves from the police officer next to him, asking Chen SiHan as he put them on.
Several police officers moved aside, revealing a clearing of straw in the middle.
A naked young male body was lying in the middle of it.
Chen SiHan looked downcast as he was explaining the situation, “The identity of the deceased has been pulled from the information database. Lin WenCai, male Omega, 18 years old, was a waiter at a bar called Black Fire in Safe Town, Aleisha. The time of death was 9:00 last night. Evidence shows that this was the first scene of the crime.”
“The Black Fire Bar in Safe Town?” Chu Feng squatted down and asked as he examined the body.
“Yes, that’s the bar.”
“Safe Town is so far from here, why did he die here?” Chu Feng muttered.
“The details are still unclear, and there were no unusual items in the backpack that the deceased was carrying.” Chen SiHan continued, “There is a village near here, called Happy Village, and the villagers claim they hadn’t seen the deceased or anyone suspicious in the past two days.”
“What about the cause of death?” Chu Feng asked.
“The cause of death was the same as the previous cases: the carotid artery was cut with a knife, but other than that, there were no other wounds on the whole body. The victim was sexually assaulted while alive, and his reproductive cavity showed signs of knotting, so the perpetrator must have been an Alpha. There were no pheromones in the extracted semen or corresponding data in the database.”
Chu Feng’s expression became very solemn as he pressed his gloved hand against the victim’s skin, “There are bruises, like on the others.”
Chen SiHan replied, “I guess it was the same as theirs, caused after death.”
Chu Feng thought about it, stood up and walked to the police line. Luo ZhouZhou was still standing where he was left, and had not moved a step. With nothing else to do anyway, so his eyes followed Chu Feng.
Chu Feng walked up to him. “Zhou Zhou.”
Luo ZhouZhou hmm ed and asked, “Are you going back?”
Chu Feng shook his head, “I can’t go back yet, but I need a favor from you right now.”
“Okay.” Luo ZhouZhou responded.
Chu Feng paused and remarked, “I haven’t told you what I need your help with yet.”
Luo ZhouZhou said, “Oh, then you can tell me now.”
Chu Feng seemed to be eager to touch his head, but as soon as he raised his hand, he saw the gloves on it and lowered it. Chu Feng asked, “Zhou Zhou, if you were to see the body, would you be afraid?”
Although Luo ZhouZhou’s behavior at the morgue last time was quite unexpected, there was a difference between that and the direct impact from the murder scene.
Luo ZhouZhou shook his head, “I’m not afraid.”
“Really not afraid?” Chu Feng was not so sure.
“Really not afraid.” Luo ZhouZhou didn’t understand. What was there to be afraid of in a dead person? He wasn’t even afraid of a werewolf, let alone a human. What’s more, it was a dead one.
“Well, let me know if you’re afraid.” Chu Feng took off his gloves and tossed them to the side into an empty cardboard box.
On the ground next to the empty cardboard box were several evidence bags containing the contents of the dead man’s backpack and torn clothing, guarded by a police officer. Not far away was the entrance to the police cordon, and Luo ZhouZhou tried to go in from there, but before he could turn around, Chu Feng put his hands under his armpits and lifted him up.
Luo ZhouZhou was suddenly lifted into the air, panicked, and reflexively gripped the arm that was holding him up.
Chu Feng, sensing that his whole body was tense, so he soothed, “Don’t be afraid, you won’t fall.”
Under the thin shirt, the two arms were strong and firm, exuding warmth. Luo ZhouZhou’s heart was beating very fast, as Chu Feng carried him over the leg-high cordon and placed him on the ground.
The field was full of stalks of wheat, so it was very difficult to walk. Chu Feng naturally took his hand and explained, “Zhou Zhou, he has bruises on his body, check if they were caused after death.”
Luo ZhouZhou agreed with a mhm and stared down at the hand he was holding. His hand was held in Chu Feng’s palm, encircled by the whole thing, with just the right amount of strength, just enough to hold it but not too tight, so that if he struggled a little, it would slip out of his grasp. Luo ZhouZhou was not satisfied, so he stretched his fingers, crossed them through the gaps in Chu Fen fingers and clasped their hands tightly.
Now it would not slip out of place.
Chu Feng paused in his steps, but didn’t say anything, nor did he let go of his hand, so they walked to the body with Luo ZhouZhou holding on to him tightly.
Chen SiHan was stunned when he saw Luo ZhouZhou being brought over, and his gaze fell on his and Chu Feng’s hands, his eyes behind the lenses of his glasses flashed.
“Old Chu, are you really… sticking together all the time?” He made a gasping sound like he had a toothache.
Chu Feng ignored him, only speaking to Luo ZhouZhou, “Look.”
Luo ZhouZhou walked up to the corpse and looked at it from head to toe. Chu Feng observed his expression and was relieved to find that he did not show any fear or resistance, and was even very calm.
It was the same as the previous corpses he had seen, with petechiae scattered all over the naked body.
“These two were formed within five minutes of death.” Luo ZhouZhou said, pointing to the two separate petechiae on the arms, then pointing to the forehead, “This one is more than five minutes old.”
But the forehead was clean, with no marks on it.
The surrounding police officers, including Chen SiHan, stared at him blankly, unable to react to the scene before them.
Luo ZhouZhou turned to Chu Feng and said, “I also want to look on his back.”
“Mm.” Chu Feng nodded his head and ordered the people around him, “Turn the body over.”
Everyone was surprised by Luo ZhouZhou’s sudden voice, not to mention Chu Feng’s obedience to his instructions. Could there be something more to this seemingly fragile little Omega?
Several police officers looked at each other, but did not dare to object, so they put on their gloves and went to turn the body over. Chen SiHan tried to say something, but then stopped, only shaking his head helplessly.
After the corpse was turned over, two bruises on the left and right side of the thighs appeared in the crowd’s view. Luo ZhouZhou only took one look at the body, then turned to Chu Feng, “It was caused within five minutes after death.”
“All right, you guys search the area carefully again, and if you don’t find anything, get ready to take the body back.” Chu Feng instructed the police officers.
Chen SiHan realized that something was wrong and asked, “Chu Feng, what are you doing?”
As the police were putting the bodies into morgue bags, Chu Feng pulled Luo ZhouZhou back a few steps and said, “The bruises on the other bodies were found by Zhou Zhou.”
“…But he said there was one on the forehead too.”
“The bruises that didn’t show up last time were pointed out by Zhou Zhou and re-examined later, proving that they were indeed there. Just now he said there was one on the forehead, and with the ones on the two arms and legs, there were exactly five. Like the previous victims, the bruises form a pentagonal shape.”
Chen SiHan looked at Luo ZhouZhou, who was standing beside him, and was amazed, “That impressive?”
“Yeah, he’s awesome.” Chu Feng nodded in agreement.
“How did he see that?”
Chu Feng looked around, whispered in a lowered voice, “It’s a gift called Vampire’s Eyes.”
Luo ZhouZhou looked at Chu Feng with a bit of pleasure, but at the same time with a bit of concern. Chu Feng appeased him, “It’s okay, he doesn’t understand. He’s stupid.”
“What?” Chen SiHan looked bewildered.
When no one answered, he asked, “What kind of work does Zhou Zhou do at the institute if he is so good?”
Chu Feng led Luo ZhouZhou outside while replying, “Cleans up.”
Chen SiHan flinched and after a few seconds, rushed to catch up.
Chu Feng walked over to his SUV and pulled out the passenger door first to let Luo ZhouZhou into the car. After closing the door, he turned to Chen SiHan.
“The deceased was killed a few dozen miles away from the city. If he had been held hostage by the murderer, there would have been signs of bondage even if there had been no struggle, but he only had bruises from his death. You investigate the people around him to see if he had any unusual behavior last night.”
“I’m going back, the department has already brought everyone around him for questioning,” Chen SiHan said. As Chu Feng got into the driver’s seat and started the vehicle, he asked aloud, “What about you?”
Without answering, Chu Feng expertly turned the car around on the narrow road. As he passed by Chen SiHan, he replied, “I’ll take the Little Tail home first.”
Luo ZhouZhou fell asleep on the return trip and didn’t wake up until the car stopped. He rubbed his eyes and asked in a daze. “Are we there yet?”
Chu Feng didn’t answer, but only looked out through the car window. Only then did Luo ZhouZhou realize that there were no lights outside and they were still on the road.
“Zhou Zhou, you stay in the car. I’ll go down and take a look.” Chu Feng unbuckled his seat belt.
Luo ZhouZhou asked, “What’s wrong?”.
“The headlights just shined on this area, and the stalks were all crushed and there’s also a trace of a vehicle.” Chu Feng said briefly, “I’ll go and see what’s going on.” When he jumped out of the car and closed the door, he uneasily warned him again, “Lock the car door and don’t run around.”
Luo ZhouZhou shook his head, “I won’t run.”
“Mn, I’ll be right back,” Chu Feng finished, turned on the terminal light, and went into the dark field.
Luo ZhouZhou watched the bright light stop and go, and obediently sat in the car without moving, only watching through the window from a distance.
In the silence of the car, only his own breathing could be heard. He did not turn around until Chu Feng’s dot of light disappeared into the straw field. The moment he glanced back, he saw a moving shadow on the road ahead.
Like a ghost, the shadow was moving slowly and silently toward the car.
