Since he was too tired, Luo ZhouZhou fell asleep again on the way back.
When he woke up, he found the car parked on the side of the road, with the familiar Star Villa area ahead of him. The car was quiet, and as he straightened up and rubbed his eyes, he saw Chu Feng leaning back in the driver’s seat with his eyes closed as well.
The street light was shining through the window, and half of his face was in the shadows, only the outline of his high nose could be seen. Chu Feng asked without opening his eyes, “Awake?”
Luo ZhouZhou gave a mhm , with a nasal sound of someone who just woke up.
Chu Feng finally opened his eyes and looked at him, “Not fully awake?”
Luo ZhouZhou nodded and replied, “Not fully awake.”
“Then go home quickly, and go back to sleep before the sleepiness wears off,” Chu Feng said.
Luo ZhouZhou took off his uniform jacket and got out of the car. As he was about to close the door, Chu Feng suddenly asked, “Do you have plans for tomorrow?”
“Huh?” Luo ZhouZhou looked confused. “Maybe I have something.” He wanted to take the weekend to plant a circle of roses around the fence of his villa, and wondered if that was something.
Chu Feng said in a disappointed tone, “Tomorrow is the weekend, I was going to pick you up, but if you have something to do, then forget it.”
“It’s okay, it’s not that important.” Luo ZhouZhou suddenly lost all his sleepiness.
Chu Feng looked at him through the car window, and after a few seconds of silence, beckoned him, “Come here.”
Luo ZhouZhou was about to open the car door and get into the passenger side when Chu Feng said, “Come around.”
“Oh.” Luo ZhouZhou didn’t ask him what he was doing, but obediently went around the front of the car to the driver’s side. He looked at Chu Feng through the open window. Under the streetlight, his brown eyes felt lighter, filled with a soft light.
Chu Feng suddenly smiled, reached out and rubbed the top of his head, and said, “I can only take you here, or General Luo will be angry if he sees me. Go, I will see you back.”
Not far away, the General’s residence was lit up, and Butler Li could be seen still walking around in the garden.
Luo ZhouZhou walked toward the gate and felt two lines of sight behind him on his back. He was both happy and a little uncomfortable. As he stepped through the carved iron gate, Butler Li noticed him, “Young Master is back.”
Luo ZhouZhou answered him, and when he turned back, the car in the distance had turned around and left, and all he could see were two red taillights.
During the night, Luo ZhouZhou lay under the bed, his hands folded in front of his chest, remembering Chu Feng’s promise to pick him up tomorrow, and he got so excited, that he could only fall into a heavy sleep after mulling it over for a long time.
The next morning, Luo ZhouZhou woke up early. After washing up, he looked through his closet for a long time, but wasn’t satisfied with any of the clothing he had put on the bed. Finally, he put on a white shirt and a light gray V-neck sweater, paired it with brown oxford shoes, carried the black backpack he had packed last night, and went downstairs, not completely satisfied.
It was the weekend and Luo Pei wasn’t at work, but was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper with a preoccupied look on his face.
When he saw the well-dressed Luo ZhouZhou, he took off his glasses from the bridge of his nose and asked, “Where are you going?”
Luo ZhouZhou didn’t dare to say that he wanted to be with Chu Feng, so he simply replied, “I’m going to look for Lin Fan.”
“Then come back early, and don’t fight when playing together.” Luo Pei knew that he and Lin Fan had quarreled a lot in the past.
Luo ZhouZhou sat down at the table with a guilty conscience, ate the breakfast brought by Butler Li, and said, “Got it.”
Luo Pei sighed, put on his glasses again and continued to read the newspaper, “Eat, eat, and drink more milk.”
But the newspaper didn’t move for a long time.
The terminal vibrated, as a message had arrived. Luo ZhouZhou glanced noiselessly at his wrist and soon finished reading the short message.
【ID54367】: Are you up yet? I’m at the place I dropped you off at last night.
Luo ZhouZhou quickly stuffed the rest of the toast into his mouth and drank the milk in one gulp.
Luo Pei frowned and said, “You look like you’ve been starving for hundreds of years, behave yourself.” Just as Luo ZhouZhou was about to leave the house, he shouted again, “Where’s your suppressant? Have you brought the inhibitors?”
Linda yawned as she came down the stairs and said, “It’s too early. It only happens once a month, it’s only been a few days.”
“Don’t let your guard down for a moment! The last time almost didn’t end well!.” Luo Pei ordered Luo ZhouZhou, “Go, take an inhibitor with you.”
After receiving the inhibitor from Butler Li, Luo ZhouZhou stuffed it into his black backpack.
Luo Pei asked again, “Do you want Assistant Qin to take you to Lin Fan’s place?”
“No need,” Luo ZhouZhou refused, “I’ll just go out and take the bus.”
Aleisha was conveniently served by a bus that passed through here every ten minutes.
“Don’t argue with Lin Fan.”
“Got it.” Luo ZhouZhou jogged out of the villa’s iron gate and immediately saw the familiar military SUV parked at the spot where he and Chu Feng had parted ways last night. He didn’t want to show his eagerness, but he couldn’t control his leaping feet.
Faster and faster, he finally took off in a trot.
Chu Feng opened the car door and stepped out, shouting at him, “Slow down.”
He didn’t wear a uniform today, only a gray casual windbreaker, but his characteristic military upright posture and temperament drew a few glances from the passers-by. Luo ZhouZhou ran closer, got into the passenger side, took off his backpack and hugged it in his arms.
When Chu Feng got into the driver’s seat, Luo ZhouZhou asked with a little gasp, his eyes sparkling, “Where are we going?”
Chu Feng’s eyes fell on his face, which was flushed red from running, and said, “I’ll give you the whole day today. We can go wherever you want to go.”
Luo ZhouZhou listened and began to think blankly, his eyes staring straight at him.
Chu Feng knew he had no idea, so he helped, “What does ZhouZhou want to do most? I’ll go with you to do whatever you want to do.”
What do I want to do?
“I don’t know, just let me follow what you’re doing,” Luo ZhouZhou said seriously.
Chu Feng looked at him and Luo ZhouZhou did not answer.
Luo ZhouZhou suddenly became apprehensive. His fingers subconsciously tugging at the hem of his sweater undershirt.
“Don’t tear your clothes.” Chu Feng started the car.
Luo ZhouZhou unbuttoned the undershirt, but with nowhere to put his hands, he began to pinch his fingers again.
“Since there’s nothing you want to do, and I’m not sure what to do with an Omega, what do you think about following my original plan for today?” Chu Feng asked.
Luo ZhouZhou nodded his head in agreement, “Okay.”
“Then it’s decided.” Chu Feng looked ahead with narrowed eyes, his voice sounding amused.
Luo ZhouZhou opened his backpack and began to dig out the contents.
Chu Feng looked over his shoulder from time to time as he drove.
Watching him put a dark blue thermos cup into the passenger glove compartment, he pulled out a round object and slapped it a few times.
“What’s that?” Chu Feng asked curiously.
Luo ZhouZhou replied, “A pillow that I prepared.” It was a soft, flexible pillow with stars of all sizes, far and near, printed on it, a vast starry sky. Luo ZhouZhou put the cushion on his lap and said, “These will be placed in your car, and the cups will be used for drinking warm water and you can use the pillow if you’re sleepy.”
“…Very good, very thoughtful,” Chu Feng commented.
Luo ZhouZhou rummaged around his backpack again, took out a stack of colorful stickers, and asked Chu Feng, “These are stickers. Can I put one on the car?”
Luo ZhouZhou saw Lin Fan’s stickers on his locker room door last time and thought they looked great, so he asked Lin Fan to buy some for him.
“…It’s fine,” Chu Feng replied.
Luo ZhouZhou pursed his lips in satisfaction, removed the sticker from the sheet, pulled down the front light shield, and carefully stuck the sticker on it.
Chu Feng looked at the sticker. It was a little man with big, round eyes, wearing a chubby astronaut suit, and holding a round astronaut helmet in his hand.
“Who is this?” Chu Feng asked.
Luo ZhouZhou put the rest of the stickers into his backpack and said, “It’s a vampire.”
“Is that so? I can’t tell,” Chu Feng said.
Luo ZhouZhou took a closer look and confirmed, “It’s a vampire.”
“How did you decide he was a vampire?” Chu Feng hit the brakes and waited for a red light.
“He has two sharp teeth.”
“Let me take a look.” Chu Feng pulled over to the side of the road and leaned over to look at the sticker. “Well, there are two little tiger teeth, and he’s cute, he looks like a little vampire.”
As he said this, he rested his eyes on Luo ZhouZhou. After he finished speaking, he sat back down and continued driving. The car soon reached the Aleisha-Bayard checkpoint again. Just when Luo ZhouZhou thought they would go straight through the checkpoint, Chu Feng pulled over.
“The deceased was working in Aleisha yesterday, but nobody around him knew why he went to Bayard, so I came to take a look.” Chu Feng explained to Luo ZhouZhou.
As they got out of the car, the guards on duty all stood up and saluted.
“Give me the video from yesterday’s border crossing, and play the recent suspicious records again,” Chu Feng said.
The camera system had an identification function that singled out suspicious border crossers and then categorized automatically, making it easier to find them.
The guard shouted, “Yes, sir.”
A few moments later, Chu Feng was standing in the surveillance room on the second floor of the outpost, poking at the 3D image in front of him to fast-forward the video.
Luo ZhouZhou sat behind him on the couch, quietly following along.
When the image fast-forwarded to a certain segment, Chu Feng stopped. On the screen, Luo ZhouZhou saw a bus pulling up near the guard post and a group of people slowly getting off the bus. He quickly recognized the victimized Omega named Lin WenCai from the crowd. He had seen the yellow shirt and the bag he was holding in his arms in the evidence box at the scene of Lin WenCai’s death.
The group of people were just off work, trying to get back to Bayard through the checkpoint. They were either silent or using terminals, all with a touch of fatigue and the ease of being off work.
No one paid any particular attention to or followed Lin WenCai as he lined up to use the terminal for identification and followed the crowd out of the checkpoint.
“When he stepped out of the barrier, he got into a taxi, and according to the driver, the destination was the Bayard Upland development site. It was still under construction, and no surveillance was installed there, so his whereabouts were lost.” Chu Feng explained to Luo ZhouZhou.
Just then, Lin WenCai’s image was bumped by someone and he stumbled and dropped the backpack he was holding in his arms. The backpack had not been zipped properly, and its contents, such as lipstick, wallet, and tissues, had scattered all over the floor.
Luo ZhouZhou looked at the footage and asked Chu Feng, “What is that?”
Chu Feng looked back at him.
Luo ZhouZhou walked forward, pointed to a spot in the 3D image, stating, “It fell out of his backpack, but I didn’t see it last night at the scene.”
Last night when he was waiting outside the police line, he was standing next to a pile of evidence bags, but he hadn’t seen this item, only small items like lipstick.
As the footage continued, Lin WenCai, who was just standing still, couldn’t care less about the scattered backpacks or the apologies of others, crouched down and snatched the object into his arms, hugging it tightly.
But the shape of it looked like a book.
Chu Feng paused and raised his hand to zoom in on that place, and Luo ZhouZhou saw clearly that what Lin WenCai was holding was indeed a book. The book was thick, with a purple hard cover, and the yellowed edges of the pages indicated that it was not new and had been read from time to time. It was just that he was holding it so tightly that he couldn’t see what words were printed on the cover.
“Flame Sutra.” Chu Feng suddenly spoke. He explained to Luo ZhouZhou, “I’ve seen the cover of this book before, and it’s the Flame Sutra of the Olin Truth Church.”
Afterwards, he picked a suitable angle and partially enlarged the image.
Sure enough, there were three golden traced words – the Flame Sutra – printed on the book.
Lin WenCai frantically stuffed the Flame Sutra into his backpack, picked up the other small objects, said something to the people next to him, probably that it was okay or something, and flagged down a cab with his hand. When the cab disappeared from the camera, Chu Feng raised his hand to turn off the 3D projection.
On the other side of the projection, there was also footage of suspicious people entering and exiting the checkpoint during this time. They were all teenagers who forgot their terminals or drove their cars through the checkpoint, nothing worthy of special attention.
Seeing nothing, Chu Feng was about to turn off this projection as well, but as soon as he reached out his hand, he saw something and suddenly paused. In the projection, a bearded man wearing a worker’s uniform and a cap was being questioned by the guards.
Under the cap, his round eyes swiveled around, never stopping to glance at the card slot on the reader. The skin outside the beard was almost transparent white under the light. Chu Feng squinted for a few seconds, reached out and pressed the speaker button, and a conversation floated out.
“Name.”
“Johnson Lee.”
“Age.”
“43.”
Luo ZhouZhou was recalling what else he had seen in evidence yesterday when he heard his own voice ring out in the room. He looked up in surprise just in time to see his own magnified face, hidden in his beard, on the 3D image.
“Ah!” He bounced up with a scream and grabbed the remote control from Chu Feng’s hand.
Chu Feng held the remote high over his head so he wouldn’t reach it, keeping his eyes on the screen.
“Don’t look at it, don’t look at it.” Luo ZhouZhou jumped around and couldn’t grab it, so he hurriedly covered Chu Feng’s eyes in embarrassment.
Chu Feng took his outstretched hand in his palm and said, “Look at you, you look so nice with a beard, very manly.”
Luo ZhouZhou turned around, and his screen self was peeking at the guards, sneaking close to the checkpoint gate, and then running away. Like a cannonball fired from a cannon, the cap on his head fell to the ground.
“Don’t look, don’t look.” Luo ZhouZhou turned around, his voice out of tone in desperation.
Chu Feng pressed a pause button on the remote control in his hand, reassuring, “Okay, okay, I won’t look.”
Luo ZhouZhou looked back again with a blush on his face and saw himself in the freeze frame, turning his head to see the guards coming after him. His hair and beard were blowing up, and his mouth is wide open in a fierce grimace.
“I’m, going, to, get, angry.” He clenched his fists in front of his chest and said one word at a time.
Chu Feng snapped off the projection and said seriously, “Don’t be angry, I turned it off, and I’ve forgotten all the images I saw before from this moment on.”
Luo ZhouZhou looked at him in exasperation, then turned around and strode out of the surveillance room. Chu Feng hurried after him, not forgetting to look at the terminal in his hand as he walked away.
The little red light on the terminal flashed, indicating that the download was complete.
“Still angry?” In the car, Chu Feng looked at Luo ZhouZhou as he drove.
This time, Luo ZhouZhou was sitting sideways with his back to him, looking out the car window without saying a word. After a while, Chu Feng seemed to be distressed and muttered to himself, “How can I show my sincerity so that Zhou Zhou will not be angry with me anymore? It’s almost noon, take him out for tomato noodles? He may forgive me if he eats the delicious tomato noodles.”
Luo ZhouZhou’s heart skipped a beat, but his face didn’t show it.
“Forget it, he won’t like it, and he’ll be even more angry.”
He knew that Chu Feng was saying this on purpose to get him to respond, and snorted inwardly, Childish!
“But Mr. Liu’s noodles are really well made, and the freshness of the tomatoes and the special beef bone broth are just right for a season like autumn.”
Luo ZhouZhou, though not intending to react, was still affected by his words and quietly swallowed his saliva.
“Better forget it, Zhou Zhou is a vampire after all, and his taste is different from mine, so he will definitely find it unappetizing.” Chu Feng didn’t just mumble to himself, he also started to turn the car around.
Luo ZhouZhou couldn’t hold back, even though he knew Chu Feng was doing it on purpose, he turned around and hurriedly exclaimed, “It’s delicious.”
“Huh? What did you say? Delicious?” Chu Feng looked into the rearview mirror and continued to make a U-turn.
“Don’t make a U-turn, let’s go eat tomato noodles.”
Chu Feng said softly, “Okay, I’ll take you to eat.”
“Then why are you still making a U-turn?”
“I was going to take a shortcut so you wouldn’t be impatient.”
Chu Feng glanced sideways at the rear-view mirror, and smiled quietly at Luo ZhouZhou’s face as he opened his mouth and swallowed.
When he arrived at the place, Chu Feng parked the car outside the alley, pulled out a paper bag from the back seat, and took Luo ZhouZhou into the noodle shop.
There were a few customers sitting in the store, and the owner, Boss Liu, came out with noodles. When he saw Chu Feng, he rushed forward to greet him. “Are you taking a break? It’s been many days since I’ve seen you.” He put the noodles down and smiled.
Chu Feng nodded and said, “I’m off today, out for a walk.”
“How about something to eat?” Boss Liu asked.
“Just what we came for.”
“Still tomato noodles?”
“You know it.”
Boss Liu set up chairs for the two men and said, “The same for the young gentleman?”
Chu Feng laughed and said, “Same. He was just saying that your noodles are delicious.”
Boss Liu’s eyes narrowed with delight, “Oh, oh, oh, it’s good that you like it, it’s good that you like it.”
After exchanging pleasantries, he went into the kitchen and on his way out smiled at Chu Feng and said, “Good choice.”
After this double entendre, Chu Feng looked at Luo ZhouZhou and seeing his dumbfounded face, it was obvious he didn’t get it, so he knocked him on the head a little with his chopsticks.
Luo ZhouZhou rubbed his forehead and muttered in discontent, “What are you doing?”
Chu Feng smiled and didn’t say anything.
