When Luo Pei finished yelling and hung up the terminal, Chu Feng turned to Chen SiHan, “SiHan, send him back now.”
Chen SiHan tossed his car keys and said, “Little Tail, let’s go.”
Luo ZhouZhou slowly put on his coat and shoes, and then tied the laces on his short boots even slower. It wasn’t until Chu Feng lifted the blanket to get out of bed to help him that he quickly tied it, straightened up, and went, “Then I’ll come to see you tomorrow.”
“I’m going home later, so I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”
“Will you be okay? Won’t you stay in the hospital for two more days?” Luo ZhouZhou asked, a little worried.
Chu Feng smiled and said, “It’s all right now. The doctor has given us both a recovery supplement, so there is no weakening effect.”
“Don’t come to pick me up, I will come to you by myself.”
Chen SiHan waited at the door, and helplessly interjected, “Let’s go, let’s go, how long do you two have to say goodbye? You won’t see each other for only a night.”
Luo ZhouZhou walked to the door, and waved again to Chu Feng.
Chen SiHan dropped him off at the entrance of the General’s residence and left, since he still had to seek out Chu Feng at the hospital. Luo ZhouZhou looked at the light coming from inside the villa and unsteadily straightened the collar of his sweater to make sure his neck was not showing, before pushing the door and walking in.
The luxurious living room on the ground floor of the villa was filled with lights, but there was no news anchorwoman in the background as there usually was at this time of the day.
Luo Pei was sitting alone on the sofa, and hadn’t even changed out of his uniform, contemplating silently about something only he knew. The ashtray on the coffee table in front of him was full of cigarette butts.
“I’m back.” Luo ZhouZhou announced from the doorway.
Luo Pei turned to look at him with a look on his face like he hadn’t come to yet, “Ah… you’re back.”
Luo ZhouZhou thought he was acting quite strange, so he stood still.
Luo Pei looked at him a few times, frowned and said, “If you’re back, go and rest, it’s late. Running around all day… can’t you just stay home all day?”
“General, are you in some kind of trouble?” Luo ZhouZhou asked cautiously.
Luo Pei flinched, then narrowed his eyes, his gaze taking on some harshness, as he asked “Who did you hear say what again?”
Luo ZhouZhou gestured to the ashtray and said, “You don’t usually smoke in the house.”
“What trouble can I get into? Making wild guesses…” Luo Pei withdrew his gaze and wiped his face. “I’m just a little tired from working so much today.”
“Really?” Luo ZhouZhou asked suspiciously.
“I say, why do you have so many questions? Didn’t I say there was too much work today? Go upstairs and go to bed, go go go.” Luo Pei waved his hand tiredly and leaned back against the back of the sofa.
Luo ZhouZhou hesitantly went upstairs as he stared at him.
At night, the whole villa area was quiet, and only an occasional car horn or two could be heard from far away. Luo ZhouZhou hugged Precious, still thinking about the events of the day, and felt very uneasy, tossing and turning but couldn’t fall asleep.
He wanted to call Chu Feng’s terminal, but was afraid of disturbing his rest so he clicked on it and put down his hand several times.
When suddenly, a new message arrived on the terminal with a beep . He hurriedly clicked on it, and it was really from Chu Feng.
【ID54367】: I’m already at home and will be resting soon. Don’t worry about me, good night.
Luo ZhouZhou finally put his mind at ease, wrapped Precious in his arms, and prepared to sleep. When he was about to fall asleep, he heard the sound of a car starting up from the garage, and he woke up with a start.
Who is driving out this late, is it the General?
Luo ZhouZhou got out from under the bed and went to the window to look down and saw a black car slowly pulling out of the garage. From this angle, he could see the person in the driver’s seat, and it was indeed Luo Pei sitting there.
The car exited the garage, drove down the driveway of the villa onto the avenue, and disappeared into the distance.
Luo ZhouZhou stood in front of the window for a while longer before he slowly got back under the bed. He wondered, What was Luo Pei’s urgent business leaving the house so late?
It took him a while before he fell asleep again.
The next morning Luo ZhouZhou got up early.
Since Qi Fen had given him two days off, he was going to go to Chu Feng’s house. After washing up, he put on his backpack and went downstairs to have breakfast, but only Linda was sitting at the table. She was serving porridge in a bowl, seemingly distracted, but when she saw Luo ZhouZhou sitting down beside her, she handed him the porridge.
“Madam, isn’t the General home?” Luo ZhouZhou drank a mouthful of porridge and asked.
Linda briefly hmm ’d at Luo ZhouZhou as her reply.
Without any further talking, Luo ZhouZhou finished his breakfast quickly, and with his mouth still full, he vaguely announced, “Madam, I’m going out.”
“Go ahead.” Linda, thinking he was going to work, added, “I’ll ask Assistant Qin to drive you.”
“No need, I’ll take the bus myself.” Luo ZhouZhou lifted up the backpack beside him and walked out as he spoke.
Linda didn’t make any more noise and continued to eat her breakfast.
Luo ZhouZhou was passing by the garden and saw Butler Li at the garage door, holding a hose and scrubbing a car by himself. The car, which Luo ZhouZhou recognized, was the same car that Luo Pei had driven out last night.
But it was covered with thick yellow mud all over, and the water was running muddy on the ground.
He didn’t know when General Luo went out for the night, neither when he returned, nor when the car got so dirty. And even though he was obviously at home, Linda said he was not here.
Luo ZhouZhou wondered about the car as he walked toward the bus stop.
When he arrived at Chu Feng’s house, Luo ZhouZhou took off his backpack and coat and asked Chu Feng, “Why did you get up? Don’t you want to rest a little more? You’re so underdressed. Aren’t you going to put on more clothes? Have you eaten yet? I’ll go make you breakfast.”
The home was thermostatically controlled and was kept at a constant temperature. But even so, wearing a short-sleeved shirt was still too little.
Chu Feng looked at his T-shirt and said, “Okay, I’ll go get some more clothes.”
When he returned to the bedroom, Luo ZhouZhou went to the kitchen. After opening the refrigerator door, he looked at the ingredients with a blank look on his face.
“What do you keep looking at the refrigerator for? Aren’t you going to make me breakfast?”
Chu Feng stood next to him at some point, with a newly added soft cotton shirt, and looked at him with a smile.
Luo ZhouZhou scratched his face and asked, “Is it okay if you just eat bread? I’ll spread the jam for you.” Seeing Chu Feng still looking at him and smiling, he added, “Well, I’ll cook you two more eggs then.”
“No need for you to do that, I’ve already eaten. Have you had breakfast yet?” Chu Feng closed the refrigerator door and pulled him out of the kitchen.
Luo ZhouZhou said, “Yes, I have. I’ve eaten some kind of pastry and congee that I can’t name.”
“Then describe it, and I’ll hear what it is.”
“The pastry was very big, round and flat, and looked a little like a bun, but without a seal, and it was filled with a strange tasting meat.” Luo ZhouZhou earnestly explained.
“It’s a border snack called Liisa pie, which is rumored to have been accidentally made by a local named Liisa…” Chu Feng walked over to the table, opened the food container on the table and said, “You’ve already had breakfast, so don’t eat this dish.”
Luo ZhouZhou peered in and saw a bowl of green and red tomato noodles, still steaming with heat, and it looked delicious no matter how one looked at it.
“I think I can still eat a little more,” Luo ZhouZhou said.
Chu Feng took one glance at him and asked, “How much is a little?”
“Just as much as a bowl of noodles.”
Chu Feng looked down at his stomach, then reached out and patted it, and said, “Not so much, only room for one glass of juice.”
Luo ZhouZhou replied, “That’s fine. A glass of juice will do.”
After a two-day break, Luo ZhouZhou went to work.
He smiled and received the documents from Qi Fen, quickly delivered them to the right areas, then returned and asked earnestly, “Director, do you need me to deliver anything else?”
Qi Fen gave him a suspicious glance and asked, “Didn’t you say you were a janitor and would never deliver my documents again? Why do you have such a good attitude and don’t act like a deadbeat anymore?”
“Did I say something like that? You must be mistaken, Director.” Luo ZhouZhou acted as if he was recalling, but his eyes darted around in all directions except Qi Fen’s.
When Qi Fen saw him like this, he held his forehead and said, “Luo ZhouZhou, you were just stupid, and now you’ve learned how to cover up that stupidity, but the result is that you’re even stupider.”
Luo ZhouZhou pouted unhappily, but when he thought that this man had saved Chu Feng, he put on his smiling face again.
Qi Fen sighed and said, “Come and see the difference between these two slides.
Luo ZhouZhou answered then came closer to examine them carefully. They were two moving images, each with a Sunset Virus moving around slowly, like two beautiful jewels.
“Stand over there, don’t press on me.” Qi Fen scolded impatiently, seeing Luo ZhouZhou getting closer and closer.
Luo ZhouZhou quickly backed up a little.
Qi Fen looked at him, tsk ed twice, and continued, “Alright then, I called you over to show you something. After examining it for so long, tell me what you saw.”
“I can see what’s going on.” Luo ZhouZhou nodded seriously.
“See what’s going on?” Qi Fen couldn’t help but laugh, “Then tell me, what do you see in it.”
“The virus in this picture is dead.” Luo ZhouZhou pointed to the one on the left and pointing to the one on the right, he added, “This virus is alive.”
Qi Fen stroked his chin and looked at the two pictures, then looked at Luo ZhouZhou and uttered in surprise, “You are right, the virus in the left picture is inactive.”
“It’s not a fluke.” He couldn’t resist the temptation to argue, “I can really tell.”
“How can you tell?” Qi Fen asked in disbelief.
“That one is not energetic, and is just a corpse. This one is very lively, and wants to…” Luo ZhouZhou thought hard, and struggled to find the right words, “Wants to play around.”
Qi Fen laughed, “Wants to play around? Zhou Zhou, what are you thinking about all day long?”
“I’m really not joking,” Luo ZhouZhou said seriously. Vampires can easily feel the freshness and degree of blood activity, his teacher once said, this was their instinct.
In class, they could also learn about the present state of blood cells just by their dynamic pictures. The Sunset Virus, in the eyes of Luo ZhouZhou, was no different from those blood cells.
Qi Fen frowned and said, “Zhou Zhou, we in scientific research should respect the facts and not lie.”
“But I didn’t lie.” Luo ZhouZhou blinked his eyes and innocently claimed.
Qi Fen nudged him and said, “Okay, since you said you didn’t lie, I’ll show you two more.”
After Qi Fen said that, he put away the two pictures floating in the air and replaced them with two others. They were also three-dimensional pictures of the virus.
“Now, come here and identify them in their respective states.” Qi Fen took two steps back and leaned on his desk with his arms folded over his chest.
Luo ZhouZhou observed carefully for a bit, then stated, “They are dormant.”
“Dormant?” Qi Fen looked at the picture, then at him, and sneered, “You’ve been exposed, haven’t you? Still claiming it wasn’t a fluke? The viruses in these two pictures have lost their activity and can no longer replicate themselves.”
He slapped Luo ZhouZhou on the head with his hand and said, “The direction of our current research is to turn all the Sunset Viruses in the human body into this kind. That way, Sunset will be cured.”
“The two viruses are just injured, they are repairing, to build a tougher protective armor on that wound.” Luo ZhouZhou seriously said, “Director, believe me, they are just dormant, and will wake up one day.”
Qi Fen looked at the two pictures again, cupped his hands to his chest and asked, “Do you mean the virus will mutate?”
A short while later, Luo ZhouZhou looked up and said, “They have struggled bitterly and are currently repairing themselves in hibernation.”
“Is that so?” Qi Fen stroked his chin, “You are getting richer and richer in imagination.”
Luo ZhouZhou then solemnly explained, “Ten days, keep it in blood for about ten days, and then it will wake up.”
Qi Fen also gradually lifted the banter from his face and seriously responded, “This virus was extracted from a patient’s blood. The patient was injected with Benzedrine three months ago, which was newly developed by adjusting the ratio of ingredients, and his health has improved significantly. Luo ZhouZhou, scientific research should be based on evidence, you can’t just state things.”
“Director, observe for ten more days.” Luo ZhouZhou crossed his two fingers in the character ‘ten’ 1 .
Qi Fen laughed and said, “All right, I will tell you the result in ten days, and I hope that you won’t add another ten days after.”
Luo ZhouZhou opened his mouth to say something, but then hesitantly closed it again.
“If you have something to say, say it,” Qi Fen said with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
“Director, if my words are correct, then may I have a request?”
“What request? Tell me about it.”
Luo ZhouZhou clenched his fist, before saying, “I want to be involved in the development of Benzedrine.”
Qi Fen didn’t sneer at him this time, just seized him up from head to toe in a new manner. “Fine. As long as you can make a breakthrough in the research progress, I’ll let you join in the development.”
“It’s a deal?”
“It’s a deal.”
Luo ZhouZhou skipped twice in his place, but after seeing Qi Fen’s cold face, he restrained the excitement on his face and casually added, “Then I’d like to leave now for a while.”
“To report the good news to Xiao Yu?” Qi Fen asked indifferently, and Luo ZhouZhou nodded his head. Qi Fen sneered and said, “Don’t report the good news too early, it’s not too late to talk about it in ten days.”
“No, it’s not too early,” Luo ZhouZhou replied as he retreated to the door, “Director, I’ll go then.”
Qi Fen waved his hand impatiently.
Luo ZhouZhou hurriedly ran toward the hospital room.
He had only been on duty for three days because Qi Fen had given him two days off, and then it was the weekend again.
On Saturday, early in the morning, Luo ZhouZhou arrived outside Chu Feng’s house. He couldn’t wait to raise his hand to ring the doorbell, but the door made an opening sound and popped open a crack.
Luo ZhouZhou pulled the door open and walked in. He found no one in the living room, but the stairs to the rooftop were lowered. He fetched his slippers as usual, changed into them, put his backpack away, hung his jacket on the coat rack, and finally climbed the stairs.
As soon as he emerged, he saw Chu Feng, running on the treadmill with his back to him, a piece of his T-shirt damp with sweat on his back.
“There’s soup warmed for you in the glass room, go have it.” Chu Feng said abruptly, without turning around.
“How did you know I was here?” Luo ZhouZhou said in amazement, “I didn’t even make a sound.”
“I can do the math,” Chu Feng replied as he ran steadily.
When he reached the glass room, he saw that there was indeed a bowl of soup on the low table. When he picked it up and tasted it, its temperature was just right. 2
He took a small sip of the soup and asked, “Is this soup for me?”
“If not for you then who else?” Chu Feng answered.
Luo ZhouZhou smacked his lips and said, “You’re really too good at calculating.” Chu Feng laughed, reached out and turned off the treadmill, and spoke while gasping slightly, “Since you were at work yesterday, I figured you’d be here first thing in the morning. And I had already entered your information into the door lock system earlier, so you can come and go as you please. When the door opens, my terminal will alert me.”
Luo ZhouZhou asked happily, “Can I just enter your house?”
“Absolutely.” Chu Feng replied.
Luo ZhouZhou went ‘hehehehe’ , then jogged to Chu Feng’s side, reached out and pushed his right shoulder twice.
Chu Feng asked, “What’s wrong?”
Luo ZhouZhou replied, “Let me kiss you.”
Chu Feng looked down at his sweaty T-shirt and said, “I’m all sweaty. Let me take a shower and change clothes first, it’ll be quick.”
Luo ZhouZhou leaned forward, smelled him, hugged him around the waist, tilted his head and said, “You don’t stink, it smells good. Come on, let me give you a kiss.”
Chu Feng also sniffed himself.
“Come on, come on, come on.” Luo ZhouZhou hurried him a little eagerly.
“Only once.” Chu Feng held up an index finger.
Luo ZhouZhou rolled his eyes and compromised, “Okay, just one for now.”
