“Ooooh, it’s Methuselah.” Chu Feng looked at Luo ZhouZhou’s face, which was flushed in anger, and suddenly nodded his head.
He had already forgotten about it, so why should I tell him again? Luo ZhouZhou suddenly came to his senses and was momentarily dumbfounded.
——Now he was sure he would never forget it again.
The expression on Luo ZhouZhou’s face kept changing, but Chu Feng didn’t say anything, so he put his arms around his chest and looked at him with great interest.
“ZhouZhou.” The door was pushed open and Luo Pei called out for Luo ZhouZhou as he strode in. Seeing Chu Feng also sitting on the sofa, he stopped in his tracks and his face sank.
“General Luo.” Chu Feng stood up from the couch, smiled at Luo Pei, and extended his right hand.
Luo Pei, as if he hadn’t seen the hand, took off his hat and handed it to the soldier beside him, saying, “General Chu Feng is here, what can I do for you?”
Luo ZhouZhou smiled as he saw Chu Feng withdraw his hand. The latter then continued, “General Luo, why do you have to ask knowing I am here for that matter?”
“I’m sorry, that matter is not my business, General Chu got the wrong person.” Luo Pei didn’t even look at him and turned his face toward Luo ZhouZhou, “ZhouZhou, let’s go.”
Luo ZhouZhou got up quickly and looked up at Chu Feng as he passed him. He saw that the handsome face still had a smile on it, but his dark brown eyes were as cold as ice.
Luo Pei raised his hand to stop the soldier from following, and walked quickly ahead. Luo ZhouZhou stepped up his pace to keep up. Their leather shoes tapped against the empty passageway, making a chaotic, urgent sound. As Luo ZhouZhou reached the elevator door, he couldn’t help but glance back to see Chu Feng walking out the door.
He had his hands in the pockets of his military pants, his head down, and his face unreadable under the brim of his hat. Not far from them, he was also walking toward the elevator.
Luo Pei pressed the close button a little frantically, and was relieved when the elevator started to go down, but his face still didn’t look good.
“ZhouZhou.”
Looking at the elevator doors, he said, “If that man approaches you, stay away from him.”
Luo ZhouZhou nodded behind him, realized the fact that he couldn’t see him nod, and replied, “Yeah.”
You don’t have to tell me, I’ll stay away from him, too.
Luo Pei pressed the floor key with the number 5, and was dazed the whole way down, except for the beginning of the sentence. He didn’t even notice that the elevator door was open, and it was only when Luo ZhouZhou warned him that he stepped out.
In front of the elevator was a closed silver metal door, smooth, heavy, and seemingly indestructible. Luo Pei turned his face toward the door identifier, and with a beep the metal door parted in the middle.
Stepping through the door, Luo ZhouZhou’s eyes were greeted by an unusually large room with all sorts of unintelligible equipment.
People in white coats rushed to and fro, carrying documents, or wearing goggles and holding test tubes, fiddling with the instruments. It seemed orderly, busy but quiet.
Luo ZhouZhou followed Luo Pei through the hall to a corridor in the deepest part of the room. Luo Pei had to stop and wait for him several times as he peered curiously along the way.
The long corridor was lined with small rooms, still filled with various instruments, and some people sitting in the back. Luo Pei led him along and into the innermost room. This room was also large, with floor-to-ceiling windows and several pieces of equipment against the wall.
When they heard a movement at the door, several people in white overalls turned around.
“Qi Fen.” Luo Pei called out to one of them.
The man was about forty years old, with a thin face, cold eyes, and a pair of glasses that looked like high prescriptions. He looked at Luo Pei without responding, and then his gaze shifted to Luo ZhouZhou.
“This is my son, Luo ZhouZhou,” Luo Pei gently pushed Luo ZhouZhou forward a little and said, “Director Qi, he will be working with you from now on.”
Qi Fen patiently closed his eyes, “General Luo, your son is a famous Omega, our institute can’t accept him.”
Luo Pei pointed to a man rinsing utensils in the corner, saying loudly, “Isn’t that a famous Omega as well? Qi Fen, when it comes to me, you say you won’t accept?”
Qi Fen got visibly workep up at the mention of this, and said loudly, “It’s already enough for me that the Chief of Staff inserted this Omega into the room, but now here comes another one. General Luo, you know how important the institute is, and you must not leave anything to chance. It’s mostly Alphas and Betas, what if an Omega rut causes a riot and results in uncontrollable consequences?”
“He’ll use inhibitors!”
“What if the inhibitors don’t work?”
“Luo ZhouZhou, you go to the side.” Luo Pei turned around and ordered.
Luo ZhouZhou knew he was going to start ranting, so he flew to the far side and stood beside the man washing the utensils.
Immediately, Luo Pei’s distinctive booming voice shook the entire institute. “It’s because he’s an Omega that I put him in the institute. Qi Fen, do you want my son to go to the army and eat and live with a bunch of Alphas?”
“The Institute also has so many Alphas and is full of top research talent, what can your son do when he comes to work?” Qi Fen’s voice was not lower than Luo Pei’s.
Luo Pei pointed to the person beside Luo ZhouZhou again, “It’s always okay to wash things with him.”
“But we have regular cleaners at the institute, and Lin Fan is superfluous.” Qi Fen also reached out and pointed to him.
Luo ZhouZhou looked at the Lin Fan beside him and saw that he was still concentrating on washing the glass beaker in his hand as if he had not heard of it.
“Don’t forget that you were short of funds for your experiments, who got you the grant under heavy pressure? That’s a lot of money, and you can’t give a small job to my son?” As soon as Luo Pei’s voice fell, Luo ZhouZhou saw Qi Fen choked up and his rising anger dropped.
After a few moments of silence, the two of them stopped arguing, and Luo Pei put his hand on the dejected Qi Fen’s shoulder and whispered in a low voice, his expression very thoughtful. It was obvious that they had reached an agreement about Luo ZhouZhou’s job.
“Are you going to work here too?” Lin Fan lowered his head and washed his hands, and suddenly spoke up.
Luo ZhouZhou looked around to make sure he was talking to him, only then did he answer, “Yes.” After thinking about it, he added, “Hello, my name is Luo ZhouZhou.”
Lin Fan, after his introduction, looked up at him with a strange look on his face and said, “I know you’re Luo ZhouZhou.”
“Oh.” Luo ZhouZhou nodded his head and asked him, “Have we met before?”
Lin Fan opened his mouth slightly in shock and looked closely at Luo ZhouZhou, as if to see if he was joking.
When Lin Fan opened his mouth, Luo ZhouZhou saw something glowing inside of it.
“We were classmates at the Royal Academy, and you were sitting right behind me. We fought and made up every day, and we were always together, and you actually forgot me?” Lin Fan’s look was both shocked and a little angry.
He turned out to be an acquaintance.
Luo ZhouZhou said with an apology, “Sorry, my brain is broken, so I can’t remember.”
“I see.” Lin Fan said back stiffly.
“It’s really bad. General Luo Pei has another thing to do besides bringing me to look for a job, and that is to take me to scan my brain.” Luo ZhouZhou felt that he didn’t quite believe him, so he explained again kindly.
Lin Fan frowned and pondered for a moment, finally acknowledging the answer. “It’s indeed broken, or else we would be arguing louder than the two of them right now.”
Luo ZhouZhou looked at his open and closed mouth and couldn’t help but ask, “What’s in your mouth? I saw it glowing.”
Lin Fan instantly shut his mouth tightly and did not say a word.
But seeing that Luo ZhouZhou was still looking at him curiously, he quickly showed his teeth and said, “I’m wearing braces.”
“Orthodontic braces?” Luo ZhouZhou had a thought, “Is it to straighten your teeth that grew crooked?”
Lin Fan’s mouth twitched and he only nodded his head.
Luo ZhouZhou hesitated and asked, “Can my kind of teeth be corrected?”
After saying that, he also showed his teeth at Lin Fan.
Lin Fan looked at his two straight rows of white teeth and became angry again, saying, “What do you mean? I thought you said you were brain dead? Want to fight with me again?”
“No fighting, I just want my teeth to be long.” Luo ZhouZhou put out two fingers to show the width, “This long.”
“Why do you need such long teeth?” Lin Fan was puzzled as he looked at the length of the comparison.
Luo ZhouZhou looked in the direction of Luo Pei, who was now whispering with Qi Fen, and sometimes looking over at him.
“I just need two of them, one on each side.” Luo ZhouZhou could not explain his intentions, but could only say vaguely.
Lin Fan imagined the scene and asked, “Fangs?”
“No, they’d only stick out when needed,” said Luo ZhouZhou, “They’d usually be normal, only extending when being used.”
Lin Fan said, “A vampire?”
Luo ZhouZhou’s heart pounded and asked, “How do you know?”
“What ‘how do I know’? The one you described is a vampire.” Lin Fan said, “So you want to be a vampire like in movies?”
Luo ZhouZhou fell silent.
What could he say? I wasn’t actually trying to be a vampire, I already was, but the teeth just weren’t coming out?
“I’m sure there’s something really wrong with your brain, it’s better to have General Luo Pei take you to check it.” Lin Fan looked at him with a mixture of feelings.
“Luo ZhouZhou, let’s go.” Luo Pei and Qi Fen had finished their conversation and were standing by the door, calling out loudly to him.
Luo ZhouZhou nodded to Lin Fan and walked toward the door.
After leaving the lab to the right, there was another long corridor, and Qi Fen led the way with a heavy face, and the three of them went into the room where the body checkups took place.
“Hong Fan, this is Luo ZhouZhou, a new employee of the institute, you take him to check this place.” Qi Fen said to a middle-aged woman who greeted him, and pointed his finger to his head.
Hong Fan looked Luo ZhouZhou up and down and bobbed her head at him, “Come on.” After saying that, she turned around and went inside the room.
Luo ZhouZhou followed her, and Luo Pei was stopped by Qi Fen, “General Luo, wait outside.”
As he entered the room, Luo ZhouZhou looked back at Luo Pei, and saw the tension on his traditionally stern face, and his feelings were somewhat complicated. The body of a vampire was different from that of an ordinary person, but he was not sure if the brain alone was any different.
If there was a difference, how should Luo Pei face the… vampire whom he thought of as his son, but was clearly not his son anymore?
