Chu Feng got out of the car, and in a few minutes, he was walking back with egg roll ice cream. Luo ZhouZhou looked at him with bright eyes and reached out for it. As soon as his hand touched it, the ice cream was taken back.
“Can I have a bite?” Chu Feng asked.
“Okay, you eat first.” Luo ZhouZhou replied cheerfully.
Chu Feng got into the car, closed the door, looked at Luo ZhouZhou with his eyes, slowly opened his mouth, and took a huge bite out of the ice cream.
From the round ball of ice cream, suddenly, there was only a little bit left.
“Here you go, eat.” He handed the remaining bit to Luo ZhouZhou.
Luo ZhouZhou looked incredulously at the ice cream, then at him, and wanted to say something, but closed his mouth, reluctantly taking it.
“What? Do you regret letting me eat it?” Chu Feng had a hard time swallowing a mouthful of ice cream and asked.
Luo ZhouZhou pursed his mouth and said, “If you eat too fast, your stomach will hurt.”
Chu Feng said, “I don’t get stomach aches.”
In the evening, Chu Feng lay on the couch, holding a hot water bag. The ice cream triggered his long-standing stomach problems. Luo ZhouZhou rubbed his stomach a little at a time and said, “Be a good boy and don’t eat ice cream in winter.”
Chu Feng looked at him sideways as he replied, “But as soon as I see a dessert store, I want to eat it.”
Luo ZhouZhou advised him, “Be patient, it’s winter, wait until it’s hot.”
“When I see you eat, I can’t stand it.”
“Then we won’t eat any more.” Luo ZhouZhou said as he thought about that scene.
Chu Feng agreed, “All right, let’s wait for the weather to warm up before we eat.”
Soon, a month passed, and the temperature gradually warmed up.
Chen SiHan’s arm had fully recovered, and he used to go to the bar with Chu Feng to hang out there, but now he had to bring home two bottles of wine and spend the evening chatting with Chu Feng on the rooftop. Luo ZhouZhou knew that they were talking about business, about whether or not they could get General Luo Pei out. So he sat quietly on the side and did not disturb them.
Today the weather was not so good, and it was raining again, although it was only 5:00 p.m., it was already dark. Warden Ding of Aleisha Prison, standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of his office, stroked what little hair he had left and prepared to leave work early.
The prison, built on the edge of Aleisha, was small but heavily guarded because it held felons or people with sensitive identities. Today the prison had a new inmate, who was sentenced to life after his initial trial, and then sent here.
It was a prisoner who, in just a few years, had kidnapped several Omegas and stolen a large amount of property. 1 After being arrested by the police, the evidence was overwhelming, and it only took a few days for the case to be resolved and the prisoner to begin serving his sentence.
Warden Ding had no feeling for such prisoners anymore, as the prison was full of them.
He was about to dial a terminal for his lover to tell her to get ready. As soon as he lifted his hand, he saw three black SUVs coming down the road outside the prison. Warden Ding’s eyes were sharp enough to recognize them as three military vehicles, and the one in the middle was the type of vehicle only a high-ranking officer could own.
He looked shocked, quickly withdrew his hand from dialing the terminal, smoothed his hair on top of his head once more, and hurried out of the office.
Chu Feng sat in the back of the SUV in the middle, with Chen SiHan beside him, and his trusted subordinate as the passenger and driver.
As the three cars pulled up to the prison gate, Warden Ding was already jogging along when the front one pressed down its window and showed its ID to the guards. Chu Feng pushed the door open and got out of the car, looked up at the sky, and dusted off the fine particles of water that had instantly stuck to his shoulders.
“General Chu.” Warden Ding panted as he ran closer and saluted.
At that moment, the doors of the other two military vehicles were opened and several subordinate officers stepped down. Chu Feng nodded to Warden Ding and walked toward the prison, followed by several officers.
Warden Ding, who only knew Chen SiHan from his frequent dealings with him, greeted him with a ‘Sheriff Chen’. He hurried to catch up with Chu Feng in front of him.
His heart was beating wildly, wondering why the general had suddenly come here.
“When did Wu YunKuan get sent here?” Chu Feng threw out this question as he kept walking, his eyes looking straight ahead.
Warden Ding was stunned, his mind racing as he recalled the name.
Wu YunKuan… Wu YunKuan…
But who the hell was Wu YunKuan? He couldn’t recall at all.
“Warden Ding, Wu YunKuan is the felon who kidnapped 2 eight Omegas and robbed over 300,000 dollars.”
Chen SiHan said with a smirk in the back, “He must have been sent here in the past two days, so Warden Ding probably hasn’t seen him yet.”
“Ah, yes, of course, that Wu YunKuan. I’ve been too busy preparing the other inmates’ reports for the past two days, and I haven’t had the chance to question this inmate yet,” Warden Ding accosted him. Seeing Chu Feng stop to look at him, he quickly added, “It was today, he got sent here this morning.”
A subordinate officer overtook them and led the way with familiarity. The group entered the prison office building and headed straight up the stairs to the second floor interrogation room.
“General Chu, is this to be the arraignment of Wu YunKuan?” Warden Ding didn’t know the purpose of Chu Feng’s visit and asked probingly.
When Chu Feng didn’t reply, Chen SiHan stepped up, “Has Warden Ding heard about the Omega murder case?”
Warden Ding was busy nodding his head, “Yes, yes, yes, I heard about it, my daughter was so scared that she didn’t dare to go out for some days.”
“We suspect that Wu YunKuan didn’t give a full account of his crimes, perhaps he was also responsible for the serial murders,” Chen SiHan said.
Warden Ding opened his mouth wide in shock and asked, “Really?”
“This case is taken very seriously by both the police and the military, so General Chu brought me here, and he wants to personally interrogate Wu YunKuan.”
This kind of prisoner’s identity and crime weren’t sensitive, so after Warden Ding’s brain raced, he decisively nodded back, “The prison authorities will definitely do their best to cooperate with the military and police in the interrogation in order to find the real killer.”
The group quickly arrived at the second floor interrogation room.
Warden Ding pushed open the door to the interrogation room and turned to Chu Feng, “General Chu, wait a moment, I’ll go and bring Wu YunKuan over right now.”
Chu Feng frowned and asked, “Where is he being held?”
Warden Ding looked to a guard who had rushed to the prison to help.
The guard hurriedly replied, “I haven’t assigned a numbered room yet because he was sent here in the morning, so he’s temporarily detained in the solitary confinement room.”
After hearing this, Chu Feng looked at Warden Ding and meaningfully said, “Warden Ding, even when you treat prisoners, you still have to follow the rules and regulations.”
The prison has always had its own set of rules, and that is, when a new prisoner arrives, he or she must first be locked up in the solitary confinement room for 24 hours. It was said this was to punish them for their crimes, but in fact it was to kill the morale of these inmates, and only after they have been tidied up will they be easy to manage.
Warden Ding wiped the sweat from his forehead and replied, “I understand, I understand, I’ll go and bring Wu YunKuan over to you.”
“No need.” Chu Feng indifferently said, “I’ll go by myself, and interrogate him in the solitary confinement room.”
“Huh?” Warden Ding was at a loss.
Chu Feng didn’t say anything else, turned around and headed for the stairs, and the other officers immediately followed.
Warden Ding and the guard looked at each other, and the guard asked, “Warden, what should we do?”
“What to do? He can interrogate wherever he wants, so go, go, go, follow him.”
The solitary confinement cell and the cell block weren’t together, but in a separate building.
The subordinate officer, who was leading the way, brought Chu Feng there without fail.
Warden Ding hurried forward and introduced him, “This is Block 4, and the solitary confinement cell is in this building.”
The building was heavily guarded and surrounded by an electrical grid. Not only was there a card-scanning steel door at the entrance to the building, but there were also six armed guards standing at the gate.
Chu Feng looked up at the small building and asked, “What floor is the solitary confinement room on?”
“Second floor.” Warden Ding answered.
After saying that, he quickly took out his ID card and swiped open the metal door of the building.
Chu Feng entered the corridor, followed by a group of officers, who stepped out of the corridor with a loud thud . When he reached the second floor, Chu Feng stopped and took a quick look to the right.
At the end of the right side was a closed metal door, with only a single information scanning device on the smooth door. There were two guards standing in front of the door, leaning against the wall, smoking and chatting, who immediately threw away their cigarettes and stood up straight when they saw Chu Feng and the others.
“General Chu, wrong-wrong-wrong direction.”
Warden Ding went up the stairs, and when he saw them, he quickly stopped them and said, “That’s not the solitary confinement room, the solitary confinement room is at the other end.”
Chu Feng stopped, looked at the metal door in front of him, and asked, “It’s not a solitary confinement room? So what room is this? And a Level 3 defense?”
“This…” Warden Ding looked at Chu Feng with embarrassment.
Chu Feng laughed lightly and said, “I understand, this is confidential to your prison, so don’t say anything if it’s inconvenient.”
Warden Ding nodded repeatedly in gratitude, “Thank you, General Chu, for your understanding.”
Although Chu Feng did not ask any more questions, he said, “Military expenses are very tight right now, and His Excellency Calgar has already donated his monthly salary. It’s a waste for your prison to have vacant Level 3 defense cells.”
“There is no vacancy, no vacancy,” Warden Ding clarified, “It’s in use.”
“Well, that’s good.” Chu Feng nodded and turned to the left again, saying, “Let’s go, let’s go interrogate Wu Yunkuan now.”
Warden Ding opened a small door on the far left, looked inside, and then turned to Chu Feng and said, “It’s too small and dark in here, General Chu, why don’t you go next door for interrogation?”
“What room is next door?” A subordinate officer asked.
“It’s a prison guard’s office,” Warden Ding said.
The subordinate officer walked to the door of the solitary confinement room, raised his hand to cover his nose, and said to Chu Feng, “General, the smell is too bad in here, let’s go next door.”
Seeing that Chu Feng didn’t object, Warden Ding hurriedly pushed open the door of the next room as he spoke to Chu Feng, “General Chu, please.”
It was an ordinary office, with only two desks and a couch.
Chu Feng sat down on the couch, crossed his long legs, rested his hands on his abdomen, and closed his eyes slightly.
Chen SiHan came in, dragged a chair over, sat down, pointed to another, and said to Warden Ding, “Have a seat.”
“Okay.” Warden Ding sat down in that chair.
Two officers quickly escorted Wu YunKuan over from the solitary confinement cell.
Wu YunKuan, an ordinary-looking man with shackles and handcuffs, stood in the middle of the room with his head hung down.
“Are you Wu YunKuan?” Chen SiHan asked.
“Yes.”
“Okay, so let me ask you, what were you doing at 8:00 p.m. on September 18 of the Alliance calendar?”
…
Next, Chen SiHan began to question Wu YunKuan carefully, asking many questions in succession. Chu Feng remained in the same position, sitting motionless on the couch, listening with his eyes slightly closed.
While listening to the interrogation, Warden Ding peeked at Chu Feng from time to time to gauge the General’s satisfaction with his reception today.
The interrogation went on without much development, with Wu YunKuan repeating the same lines.
“I really don’t remember, but I was at the border during that time.”
“Unjustly accused, I didn’t lie, I was at the border.”
…
Chu Feng stood up with seeming impatience and strode out of the office. After stopping at the door for a few seconds, he walked to the right again.
Warden Ding also stood up to follow him, but two officers blocked him at the door.
“Warden Ding, you can’t leave. If anything happens to the prisoner, I won’t be able to handle it.” Chen SiHan said with a smirk on his face.
“That’s right, that’s right.” Warden Ding looked out the door and sat down again.
Chu Feng flew to the right side of the corridor, where two subordinates were already waiting.
“The cameras have been taken care of, and the guards have been led away by Second Lieutenant Lin,” One of the subordinates reported.
Chu Feng nodded, took the badge from his wallet, which had not been cleared from access, and placed it on the metal door’s information scanning device. After a soft sound, the metal door popped open a crack and Chu Feng quietly ducked in.
Entering the door was a passage, and next to it were two cells. The cells still had closed doors, but the upper part of the doors had transparent windows with intercom holes. Chu Feng went to the first cell and looked inside, but it was empty, and then took a few steps forward to the second cell.
There was someone in the second room, sitting sideways on a single bed, looking at a monitor across from him.
There was an old movie playing on it.
When he heard footsteps, the man didn’t turn his head, still staring at the monitor. But Chu Feng recognized it as Luo Pei the first time he saw him.
“General Luo.” He knocked on the door.
Luo Pei turned his head and saw Chu Feng through the transparent window. There was no surprise on his face, he just glanced at him and then turned back to continue watching the movie.
“General Luo, I have come to ask you about the secret you once told me.” Chu Feng said openly and frankly.
Luo Pei was silent for a few seconds and asked in a calm voice, “Is Zhou Zhou all right?”
“He’s okay.”
Luo Pei said, looking ahead, “As long as they don’t come looking for me, it’s proof that Zhou Zhou is still with you.”
“General Luo, give me the secrets and evidence you know, and I will set you free,” Chu Feng said.
Luo Pei laughed, leaned back on the blanket and said, “I feel good now, I never had a chance to watch a movie properly before and was always complained to by Linda. Now I have enough time to watch all the movies she likes.”
Chu Feng said in a deep voice, “Then you want Zhou Zhou to always be completely out of danger and live in peace, right?”
Luo Pei put his hands behind his head and calmly said, “I’m relieved that Zhou Zhou is with you, my son was given to you, so I won’t say anything to thank you.”
“Zhou Zhou is safe now because of the presidential election, and Calgar can’t care about him for now. But what about after the election? He will be able to use all kinds of tactics without fear. General Luo, if I get the evidence, I can clear up all the loose ends and make Zhou Zhou truly safe from now on.”
“And if you fail?” Luo Pei’s face sank, and he sat up and looked at Chu Feng, “If you fail to get the evidence, then what about Zhou Zhou? Who else can protect him? Chu Feng, no matter what you say, I won’t hand it over and risk Zhou Zhou.”
Chu Feng gritted his teeth and said, “General Luo, but if you don’t give me the evidence, aren’t you also putting Zhou Zhou at risk? Once the presidential election is over, Zhou Zhou will be in great danger.”
Luo Pei became so excited that veins popped out at the corners of his forehead, and he yelled in a low voice, “Chu Feng, you don’t understand what it’s like to be a father.”
“General Luo, you also have a lover, so why don’t you understand how it feels to protect your lover with all your might? You are Zhou Zhou’s father, but I love him no less than you.” Chu Feng yelled back at him.
Luo Pei looked at him furiously, gasping for air, his chest heaving up and down. Chu Feng also looked at him hard, pursing his lips.
Luo Pei stopped meeting his eyes, turned around and said, “I know you drew the guards in, so get out, it’s almost time for them to change their guard.”
“What about the evidence?” Chu Feng continued to ask without giving up.
After a few seconds of silence, Luo Pei said, “Let me think about it for a few days.”
Chu Feng said, “It’s okay to think about it for a few days, but you know, if I want to meet you, it’s still a little difficult.”
“If I want to reach you, I can do it easily,” Luo Pei replied.
Chu Feng took a deep breath and said, “Okay, then I’ll wait for your news.” Just before turning around, he asked something else, “Where is Madam? How come I haven’t been able to find out anything about her?”
Luo Pei moved his fingers and said, “I sent her ahead of schedule to a secret location where she will be safe for a while, if Calgar doesn’t go looking for her. I separated mother and child, thinking that if one was caught, the other could escape…”
“I understand, and I’ll tell Zhou Zhou to feel at ease.” Chu Feng said.
He had just taken two steps when he heard Luo Pei saying out loud, “Thank you.”
“General Luo Pei is very kind, you have given me Zhou Zhou, so I should be the one to thank you.” Chu Feng said, took a few steps forward, and pushed open the door of the cell.
