When dinner was over, Luo ZhouZhou put the honey brown bear and Precious together on the bed. Chu Feng followed, leaned against the bedroom door, and asked, “Zhou Zhou, both bears have taken up the bed, where should I sleep?”
He no longer slept in the guest bedroom, but had moved back to the master bedroom, where he shared the room with Luo ZhouZhou. Luo ZhouZhou stopped smiling, knelt down on the bed, and looked around in embarrassment.
He picked up the two bears and got out of the bed, crossed over to Chu Feng at the door, and went to the guest bedroom.
Chu Feng stopped leaning on the door frame and stood up straight, “What? Are you three going to sleep in the guest bedroom without me?”
Luo ZhouZhou didn’t reply, and went straight into the guest bedroom.
Chu Feng followed him and said, “It’s okay to squeeze a little, I don’t care…”
Luo ZhouZhou put the two bears on the guest bed, then turned around, hugged Chu Feng’s waist, tilted his head, saying, “When they have company, they sleep by themselves, but they can’t squeeze in with you.”
“So you’re not going to sleep with Precious?” Chu Feng reached out and nudged his nose.
“Everyone has to sleep with the one they love. Precious is with his teddy bear, and I’ll sleep with you,” Luo ZhouZhou replied.
Chu Feng leaned his head down, kissed him on the lips and asked, “What did you eat? Why is it so sweet?”
Luo ZhouZhou smacked his lips, “Did I? I didn’t eat anything.”
“Then I’ll taste it again,” Chu Feng said vaguely, kissing him again.
Luo ZhouZhou rested for two more days at Chu Feng’s request before returning to the underground trading floor to begin his research work. When he stepped into the research room where he hadn’t been for several days, he was surprised to find that, in addition to Lin Fan, Qi Fen was also there, leaning over to look at the specimen under the microscope.
Before his heat, he had injected a strain of Sunset Virus with his own adjusted composition ratio of Benzedrine, and hadn’t cared to observe the results for the past few days.
Lin Fan hid at the front desk and was so happy to see Luo ZhouZhou come in that he almost jumped up, “Zhou Zhou, you’re here!”
When Qi Fen heard the voice, he also looked at the door, and then turned around to continue looking at the microscope.
“Zhou Zhou, are you feeling better?” Lin Fan slipped in front of him, bumped his arm and whispered, “You’re finally back. Director Qi has been coming over for the past two days, staring at the microscope for a whole day. When you were away, I was alone with him, and I was chilled to the bone.”
“Oh, I wasn’t sick,” Luo ZhouZhou said, “I was in heat for a few days, so I didn’t come.”
Lin Fan nodded understandingly and said, “Ah, even though you took a suppressant, it’s still best to rest for a few days.”
Luo ZhouZhou had taken two steps forward, then turned around and said, “I didn’t take a suppressant.”
“No suppressant.” Lin Fan repeated, then raised his voice and screamed, “No suppressant!?”
Qi Fen also turned his head abruptly, with the cold lenses of his glasses facing his direction.
“No inhibitors, did you… did you…” Lin Fan’s expression was both shocked and excited, bumping his shoulder and lowering his voice to ask, “So do you have that?”
“What?”
Lin Fan curled the thumbs of both hands, putting them together.
Luo ZhouZhou followed suit by pairing his thumbs together, looking confused.
“Hey, come here.” Lin Fan leaned to the back of Luo ZhouZhou’s neck and sniffed, “Sure enough, it’s marked, was it General Chu?”
“Yes,” Luo ZhouZhou replied. He lifted up the collar on his neck to show Lin Fan and said with a bit of pride, “Look at the glands on the back of my neck, Chu Feng said the markings are perfect and my pheromones have his scent.”
Lin Fan furtively glanced at Qi Fen, saw that he was still looking down at the microscope, tugged on Luo ZhouZhou’s sleeve, blushed and said, “Don’t speak so loudly.”
Luo ZhouZhou wanted to say more, but Qi Fen suddenly called out to him: “Luo ZhouZhou, come here.”
“Oh, I’m coming.” He hurried over, leaving Lin Fan, who looked excited, spinning in circles.
“How did you do that?” Qi Fen buried his head in the microscope and asked.
Luo ZhouZhou flinched, hesitantly answered, “It wasn’t difficult, mainly because I was in heat, so it was done quickly.”
Qi Fen’s body stiffened, and he slowly raised his head, with a strange expression.
When Luo ZhouZhou saw his face, he began to drum in his heart and knew where he had made him unhappy again. But no matter what the reason was, let’s admit our mistakes first.
“Director Qi, I was wrong.”
He didn’t expect that Qi Fen wouldn’t growl this time, he just stared at him, his eyes shining behind the lens. When Luo ZhouZhou saw the expression on his face, he seemed to be excited and happy, but he was also trying to suppress it, which looked a bit fierce, and he couldn’t help but feel furious.
“I was really wrong, don’t look at me like that.” He took a small step back.
Qi Fen spoke up, his voice shaking a little, “Luo ZhouZhou, what I’m asking is that the virus in this specimen has lost its activity, how did you manage to do that?”
Luo ZhouZhou came to his senses and quickly explained, “Just… just adjust the ratio of the drug content in Benzedrine.”
Afterwards, he breathed a sigh of relief inwardly.
Qi Fen took out a handkerchief, took off his glasses, wiped the lenses, and said, “Show me the dosage table.”
Luo ZhouZhou saw his hand shaking slightly as he wiped the lens, searched through a pile of papers on the table, and finally handed Qi Fen a colorful piece of handmade paper.
“I want to see the dosage chart.” Qi Fen picked it up.
“This is the dosage chart.” Luo ZhouZhou pointed to the rows of small letters on it. “I was folding frogs for Xiao Yu the other day, so I wrote it on this sheet.”
Qi Fen couldn’t care less about him and looked at the dosage sheet carefully, asking, “Just changed the dosage of the drug ingredients, nothing else was added?”
Luo ZhouZhou shook his head and said, “I think the Benzedrine is already perfect and I don’t need to add anything else. I just made a small adjustment to make the Sunset Virus more afraid of it.”
Qi Fen leaned down to look at the microscope again, then straightened up and looked him over from head to toe.
Luo ZhouZhou was so scared, that he mumbled, “Director, why are you looking at me like this?”
Afterwards, he quietly hid his neck, trying to hide the mark deeper into his collar. He thought that Qi Fen might have smelled Chu Feng on his body.
“Zhou Zhou, I’ll take this virus back and observe it for a while. If it doesn’t produce any changes, then I…” Qi Fen nudged him with his finger, unable to think of the right word.
“Then I will be grateful to you for the rest of my life. No, the whole Alliance will be grateful to you.” He simply said.
Luo ZhouZhou reacted for a few seconds before he understood what he meant and stopped him in succession, “No, no, no, Director Qi, no need to observe for a period of time, in about five days, the virus will wake up again.”
“What?” Qi Fen frowned.
“It’s true, even though I made a small dose adjustment to the Benzedrine, it only made the virus more afraid of it. But in a few days, they will wake up from hibernation again,” Luo ZhouZhou explained.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
The light under Qi Fen’s eyes slowly disappeared and dimmed, he turned around, propped his hand on the table, and hung his head.
“Director…” Luo ZhouZhou called out quietly.
Lin Fan stood at the front desk, not knowing what they said, but not daring to come over, so he watched worriedly.
A long while later, Qi Fen suddenly spoke, his voice low and hoarse, full of deep despair and sorrow. “Zhou Zhou, why can’t it die completely? Why? Has our research been going in the wrong direction? Is Benzedrine useless at all? It just falls asleep, wakes up in a few days, and puts on tougher armor for itself. Right? Zhou Zhou.” He suddenly laughed again and mouthed, “It’s just asleep… asleep…”
Qi Fen’s voice decreased, and he lay in the crook of his arm, not moving.
Luo ZhouZhou didn’t dare to ask him what was wrong, nor did he dare to make a sound, so he stood by silently.
After a few moments, Qi Fen raised his head and regained his cold and indifferent appearance.
Only his eyes were red, and there were suspicious water marks in the corners of his eyes.
“Keep researching, what are you waiting for?” He leaned in close to the microscope, but he was speaking to Luo ZhouZhou.
“Oh, okay.”
The two men quietly conducted their experiment, Luo ZhouZhou stealing glances at Qi Fen from time to time. Just as Qi Fen’s eyes were stabbing at him like a knife, Luo ZhouZhou said, “Director, I have an idea I want to share with you.”
“If you have something to say, say it.”
Luo ZhouZhou organized his words before speaking, “Director, I think it’s not that the research direction is wrong, or that Benzedrine is useless, but that we are missing something.”
“What do you think we’re missing?” Qi Fen asked.
Luo ZhouZhou said, “I can’t describe it specifically, but I just think there is one key thing that we didn’t get. With that, Benzedrine can really make the virus die.”
“Yes, we’re missing the critical inhibitor that keeps the virus from replicating and integrating its DNA into the host genome.” Qi Fen closed his eyes.
“I just want time to move slower and slower so that I can find that critical thing.”
When Chu Feng came to pick up Luo ZhouZhou from work, he sat in the cross-country and stared out the window sullenly.
“What’s wrong? Did you get scolded by Qi Fen, why such a sad face?” Chu Feng asked.
When Luo ZhouZhou heard this, he turned to look at him with a start.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Luo ZhouZhou didn’t reply and turned back.
Just as Chu Feng wanted to pull over to the side of the road to ask more questions, he suddenly said, “You sounded just like General Luo Pei.”
“Huh?”
“Whenever I’m upset, he asks me what’s wrong. Sad face, did you fight with Lin Fan again?” Luo ZhouZhou gently picked at the car window with his finger.
“Missing the General?” Chu Feng asked.
Luo ZhouZhou didn’t make a sound.
“You haven’t mentioned it during this time, but you must be worried about the General in your heart,” Chu Feng said, “But I’ll try my best to find a way, don’t worry.”
“Yes, I know.” Luo ZhouZhou looked at him with trust in his eyes.
At home, Luo ZhouZhou went into the bathroom to take a shower, while Chu Feng sat on the sofa, flipping through the Flame Sutra and fondling the badge in his hand. Chen SiHan has been mobilizing the police force, searching for leads, even though he still has no clue as to who killed the Omegas, he didn’t give up.
The house was warm, but Luo ZhouZhou took a shower, put on Chu Feng’s T-shirt, pushed open the door and walked out. The T-shirt was big and long for him, and it covered his thighs, exposing his long and straight legs. His skin was pale, his face red from the heat of the bathroom, his hair damp and droplets of water sliding down his forehead.
Chu Feng’s long legs were folded over the couch, and his eyes grew dark as he watched him. He put down the Flame Sutra in his hand, held out his hand to Luo ZhouZhou, and said, “Come here.”
Luo ZhouZhou walked over, sat next to Chu Feng, and looked at him over his shoulder, his eyes dripping wet. Chu Feng patted his thigh, and Luo ZhouZhou sat back down, wrapping his arms around Chu Feng’s neck.
Chu Feng opened his mouth to say something, but Luo ZhouZhou had already leaned in and kissed him on the lips.
“So aggressive,” Chu Feng laughed.
Luo ZhouZhou started to unbutton his shirt and said, “Come on, come on.”
“Okay, hurry up.” Chu Feng rolled over, pressed him against the couch, and kissed him deeply.
…
The next day, Qi Fen came back to the First Research Institute on the trading floor to work with Luo ZhouZhou. Luo ZhouZhou was organizing the form data, and Qi Fen was looking at the microscope with his back to him.
“Xiao Yu used the Benzedrine you adjusted the ingredients of, and her situation has improved a little.” Qi Fen said indifferently, “She said thank you, and that you will definitely cure her.”
Luo ZhouZhou couldn’t visit Xiao Yu these days, so Qi Fen often told him how she was doing and brought his folded frogs to Xiao Yu. Luo ZhouZhou didn’t turn around and said, “That Benzedrine can only control the disease for a while, I still have to work hard to make a new Benzedrine when the virus wakes up.”
When Qi Fen didn’t reply, Luo ZhouZhou didn’t mind and continued to rifle through the files in his hands.
“Thank you,” Qi Fen suddenly said.
“Huh? What?” Luo ZhouZhou turned his head blankly and asked.
Still looking at the microscope, Qi Fen said, “You bought time for Luo Bing too.”
Luo ZhouZhou flinched for a moment, opened his mouth in surprise, and asked excitedly, “Director Qi, are you thanking me? You just said thank you, didn’t you?”
Qi Fen stopped moving, his back looked very stiff.
“You’re welcome! Director Qi, you’re welcome!” Luo ZhouZhou replied loudly.
Qi Fen angrily turned around and asked, “Why so loud? Shall I get you a megaphone?”
Luo ZhouZhou hurriedly said, “No, no, no.” Turning around, he continued to organize the data, humming a song quietly.
Qi Fen looked at the microscope and felt that this tune was very familiar, the staff in the institute sometimes sang it too, saying it was the theme song of a recent TV series. But Luo ZhouZhou changed the lyrics, and repeatedly said “Thank you” and “You are welcome”.
Qi Fen shook his head, not saying anything, only the corner of his mouth slightly curled up.
The lab was quiet, only Luo ZhouZhou’s quiet humming and the sound of the paper rustling in his hand could be heard.
Luo ZhouZhou held two forms in his hands and carefully checked the data on them. The numbers printed out were a bit small, so he looked at them, felt his eyes get a bit dizzy, and reached out to rub them. When he put his hand down to look at the figures again, they were not clear, but instead began to spin slowly.
He rubbed it hard again and turned his head to look out the window, but saw the birds outside the window were also spinning in the sky.
“Director Qi.” He shouted in panic.
The sound reached his ears, but it didn’t sound like it was coming from himself, and had a buzzing echo to it.
“Director Qi.” He shouted again and turned his head to see Qi Fen.
He saw that the scene around him was blurry, and that Qi Fen’s mouth was opening and closing, but he couldn’t hear a word.
Qi Fen looked very panicked and Lin Fan rushed over.
Luo ZhouZhou wanted to ask why there was so much shaking, but before he could say a word, he lost consciousness and slowly fell down.
