In May, it was almost summer, and it was getting hot everywhere.
Luo ZhouZhou was sitting at the head of Xiao Yu’s bed, talking to her incessantly, “…so the ice cream at that dessert store is especially good when you leave the hospital next month, I will take you to eat it.”
“Okay, thanks Zhou Zhou.”
“You’re welcome.”
Xiao Yu’s smile narrowed her eyes. She was still sick, but her face had returned to that of a young girl. The wrinkles all over her face had disappeared, and she had slowly put on weight.
Luo ZhouZhou and Qi Fen developed the fourth generation Benzedrine, the medicine was being produced in large quantities, and soon, all Sunset patients in the Alliance would be treated for free.
The side effects of the instant power boost had also been solved, so that both normal people and Sunset Face patients would not be stimulated to their extraordinary potential.
The fourth generation of Benzedrine, also had a new name, called the Heart of the Wise.
Luo ZhouZhou looked at the terminal, stood up and said, “I’m leaving now, Chu Feng is coming to pick me up.”
Today was supposed to be a day off, but the new president had just been inaugurated, and Chu Feng, as his right hand man, was so busy that even on a day off, he could only come out of the presidential palace at noon.
Xiao Yu nodded her head heavily, the pink hair clip on her head reflecting the sunlight as she followed the movement. She smiled and said, “Go on then, my brother will be here later, don’t worry about me.”
She had been transferred to the general ward of the hospital, and Blue Shark came to stay with her every day. The two siblings thought they would never see each other again in this life, but Sunset Face was cured and they finally got to see each other.
As soon as Luo ZhouZhou walked out of the hospital, he saw a familiar black military SUV parked under a tree by the side of the road. Dressed in a beige trench coat, Chu Feng’s long legs were overlapping and he was leaning against the car door.
Seeing Luo ZhouZhou’s eyes, he touched his right hand to his forehead and gave a military salute.
Luo ZhouZhou smiled widely and ran over to him.
“Slow down and watch your step.” Chu Feng instructed with a smile, hugging the whirlwind of people.
Luo ZhouZhou kissed him on the cheek and asked, “Are we going to the General’s place?”
Chu Feng was going to take Luo ZhouZhou to the countryside for a walk, but when he saw him looking at him with hope in his eyes, he nodded and said, “Okay, let’s go to the General’s place.”
The day after Calgar’s arrest, Luo Pei was released, and as soon as he walked out the prison door, Linda and Luo ZhouZhou jumped on him. A short distance away stood smiling old friends Tommy and Mrs. Tommy, and the still unsmiling Butler Li.
Linda and Butler Li were under the care of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy during the time of Luo Pei’s arrest.
After a few hugs, Chu Feng drove the car over. When he looked out from the cab and met Luo Pei’s eyes, they both pretended not to see each other and quickly looked away.
Luo Pei retired from the military and began to enjoy life in peace, spending time with Linda every day, tending to her plants, or driving to faraway places and staying at Tommy’s house for a few days. However, Chu Feng and Luo ZhouZhou still didn’t have much to say to each other, and the two of them often started snide conversations at the dinner table, eating a meal of swords and guns.
This morning, Luo ZhouZhou had just gotten up and was enjoying the breakfast that Chu Feng had made before he left home when Luo Pei’s message arrived.
“Zhou Zhou, your mother learned a new dish for you to try at noon.”
“Okay, Chu Feng has gone to the presidential palace, I’ll come back with him when he’s finished.”
There was silence from Luo Pei’s side, and Linda’s voice was faintly heard, “Zhou Zhou, I also made two dishes that Chu Feng likes to eat, you two come over early.”
“Got it, Mom.”
Now Luo ZhouZhou sat in the car and went with Chu Feng to the Aleisha Villa area. He looked out the window of the car as they passed the place where the checkpoint used to be. The retractable gate that used to be between Aleisha and Bayard had been removed where the guard post used to be, leaving only a dark, round mark on the ground.
The new president was a bold and visionary leader, and one of the first things he did when he took office was to tear down the checkpoint. The entire population of the Alliance was in an uproar, and although there were occasional voices of opposition, they were quickly drowned out in the overwhelming waves of support.
This was followed by a drastic reorganization, revising parts of the Alliance’s program while besieging the remnants of the Truth Church on the border. Without Calgar’s covert support, the Truth Church was soon scattered and defeated, and the more it retreated, the more it withdrew beyond the Alliance’s borders.
Since then, it was greatly wounded, and for a long time, it couldn’t recover to its previous condition.
The vehicle soon arrived at the Star Villa area, and from a distance saw a person standing in the fence of the Luo family home, heading in their direction. After the vehicle drove into the private driveway, the person quickly turned around and walked inside the house.
“Did you see that? I think I saw the General.” Luo ZhouZhou asked Chu Feng.
Chu Feng laughed and said, “I didn’t notice, but I guess so.”
At the front door, Luo ZhouZhou jumped out of the car and ran to the house while Chu Feng drove his car to the garage.
“Dad.” Luo ZhouZhou rushed through the door.
Luo Pei was sitting on the sofa, reading a newspaper. He looked at him through the edge of his glasses and said, “Why are you in such a hurry? Don’t fall on your face when you’re so old.”
Butler Li greeted Luo ZhouZhou and helped him take off his coat. He thanked him and walked over to the couch next to Luo Pei and sat down.
“It’s a little hot outside, have some water.” Luo Pei nuzzled at the two glasses of water on the table.
Luo ZhouZhou picked up one of the glasses and took a small sip.
Linda was in the kitchen, and from time to time an unfamiliar gentle voice came out, “…The next step is to put salt, and the next step is to put two cups of water in…”
“Who’s cooking in the kitchen with Mom?” Luo ZhouZhou asked curiously.
Luo Pei turned the newspaper upside down and said, “That’s a video teaching her cooking.” After a two-second pause, he lowered his voice and said, “I think this new dish is quite difficult, so you’ll eat less later and eat other dishes.”
“Mn, okay.” Luo ZhouZhou also replied in a low voice.
Luo Pei glanced at the door of the room and asked Luo ZhouZhou, as if by accident, “Is Chu Feng treating you well?”
“Dad, you’ve asked me this question many times,” Luo ZhouZhou replied.
Luo Pei frowned and said, “The last time I asked it was a few days ago, and now I’m asking it these days.”
“He’s very nice to me.”
“Mn, you should remember what Dad usually tells you.”
Luo ZhouZhou said, “Remember, you can’t be too nice to him, and you should always be three times less nice.”
Luo Pei nodded his head in satisfaction.
A footstep sounded, and Chu Feng walked in from the doorway, nodded to Luo Pei, and said, “General.”
Luo Pei gave a reserved hmm .
Butler Li went up to take his coat as well, and only took two steps when Luo ZhouZhou jumped up from the sofa and quickly overtook him to take off Chu Feng’s trench coat.
Luo Pei closed his eyes and sighed softly.
“Chu Feng is here.” Linda walked out from the kitchen door, smiled and said, “The food will be ready soon, wait a moment.”
Chu Feng smiled and said, “Thank you for your hard work.”
“It’s not hard, it’s not hard. I just cook once in a while.”
Luo ZhouZhou handed the trench coat to Butler Li and led Chu Feng to sit down on the sofa.
Luo Pei’s eyes looked at the newspaper and asked faintly, “How are the wedding preparations going? It will be held next month.”
Luo ZhouZhou’s eyes lit up and he said happily, “It’s great, and I bought a new nest for Big Crow and Little Crow—”
“I didn’t ask you.” Luo Pei leaned against the back of the sofa and continued to flip through the newspaper.
Chu Feng quickly replied, “The guests have all been invited, the house has been redecorated, and it’s just the location of the honeymoon…”
“What happened to the honeymoon location?” Luo Pei asked.
“The honeymoon location hasn’t been discussed with Zhou Zhou yet,” Chu Feng said.
Luo Pei threw the newspaper on the coffee table, frowned and said, “It’s definitely up to ZhouZhou. You will go on your honeymoon where he wants to go.”
Luo ZhouZhou suddenly opened his eyes wide and said, “That’s very kind of you, Dad. I just want to go to the top of Mount Karp for a run, and I also want to go to the desert beyond the border to see what’s there. I’ve heard that there is a deep valley there, and no one who goes down there can get up, so I want to try it too.”
Luo Pei was dumbfounded, and after a moment said, “Chu Feng will decide the honeymoon location.”
“Okay,” Chu Feng replied quickly.
“It’s dinner time, come and eat.” Linda, with the help of Butler Li and the maids, had already brought the food to the table.
Luo Pei took off his glasses and stood up from the sofa, “Come on, let’s eat.”
Chu Feng and Luo ZhouZhou stood up as well. Sitting down at the table, Linda poured a glass of wine for each of them, except for the one in front of Luo ZhouZhou, which could only be considered a juice red wine.
“Here, let’s wish our whole family good health.” Linda lifted the wine glass.
After gently clinking glasses, sip the wine, and put down the glass, Luo ZhouZhou saw Luo Pei bring the plate of new food to Chu Feng. Luo Pei said, “Have some more, it’s Linda’s new dish.”
Chu Feng grabbed a chopstick and chewed it in his mouth, his eyes suddenly lit up. “Delicious, Madam is really good at this.”
“I’m glad you like it, I’m glad you like it.” Linda smiled so much that her eyes narrowed, “As long as you like it, I’ll always make it for you.”
“Then thank you, Madam.” Chu Feng put another pile of vegetables into Luo ZhouZhou’s bowl and said, “Try it, it’s delicious.”
Luo ZhouZhou put it in his mouth and opened his eyes wide, “Wow, it’s really delicious.”
Chu Feng gave him another pile and said, “Have some more.”
“N-no, you eat too,”
Luo Pei said with a dark face, “Don’t talk at the table.”
Silence returned to the dinner table, and only the occasional clinking of cups and plates could be heard.
Luo Pei wiped his mouth with a napkin and asked, “Chu Feng, how are things going in the military department lately?”
Chu Feng put down his chopsticks and said, “Not bad.”
“Not bad? I’ve heard that you’ve been following the new president in revising the coalition program, and that you’ve been quarreling with that group in the House of Representatives every day.”
“Not really a quarrel, just an argument, a very normal argument.”
“Those elders in the Council of Representatives are all highly respected and full of wisdom. You are still young, and you don’t see things as thoroughly as they do, so listen to their opinions instead of arguing with them.” Luo Pei said.
“Yes, I understand.”
Luo Pei wanted to say more, but Linda glared at him in discontent, “Chu Feng is not one of your men. You two still have the same rank.”
Luo Pei’s face sank, “I’m teaching him how to behave, and young people don’t know how to live in the world—”
“Dad, don’t talk at the table,” Luo ZhouZhou said with a pout.
“Okay, okay, okay, I won’t talk, I won’t talk.”
After dinner, Chu Feng went to help Linda clean up the weeds in the garden, and Luo Pei was about to go back to the study with a cup of coffee.
Luo ZhouZhou followed him and asked on the stairs, “Dad, don’t you like Chu Feng?”
Luo Pei stopped, turned around, and said, “Why do you ask?”
“Every time you don’t talk nicely, always lecturing him,” Luo ZhouZhou said in a low voice, picking at the handrail.
Luo Pei stretched out his hand and tapped his forehead with his finger, “I did that for you.”
“For me?” Luo ZhouZhou was a little surprised, “Chu Feng and I are doing well, I don’t need you to help me out.”
Luo Pei said, “You don’t understand. Dad has to be tough, so he won’t dare to bully you in the future. He has to be knocked around from time to time, so he won’t treat you badly.”
“Have you ever been beaten by mom’s dad before?”
“It’s your grandfather.”
“Does Grandpa always lecture you, too?”
“…Why do you care so much?”
Luo ZhouZhou looked at him askance and remained silent. Seeing Luo Pei walking up the stairs with his coffee, he caught up with him again and followed him into the study. Luo Pei sat on a rattan chair in front of the window, and without lifting his eyelids, he opened the terminal to read information.
“Papa.” Luo ZhouZhou crouched down in front of him and looked up at him.
Luo Pei glanced at him, waiting for the next words, but Luo ZhouZhou was quiet.
“Daddy.” He called out again.
“Huh?”
“Daddy.” Luo ZhouZhou hugged Luo Pei’s knee, rested his chin on it, and continued to look up.
Luo Pei watched the news for a few paragraphs before he finally had no choice but to say, “Okay, I won’t teach him a lesson anymore, don’t make such a pitiful face.”
Qi Fen had unblocked Luo ZhouZhou’s memories, and he remembered everything, as well as the trick he had used against Luo Pei. This tactic has worked a hundred times for anyone who wanted candy, wanted to go out and play, or got caught doing something bad.
When Luo ZhouZhou heard this, he was so happy that he kissed him twice on his knee.
“Look at you, for Chu Feng, ingratiate yourself into this. You’re really a thing that turns your elbows outward,” Luo Pei said, a little sourly. After thinking about it, he asked, “Does he usually say anything about me in front of you?”
“All nice words.”
“What kind? Tell me about it.”
Luo ZhouZhou said, “He said you are cautious, clever, and have a great mind. He said that you love me very much and that you love me and my mother very much. He said that you are actually a good person.”
Luo Pei looked a little complicated and asked, “Anything else?
“Let’s see…” Luo ZhouZhou stared into the air, his eyes suddenly brightening, “Right, that you are an old fox.” Luo Pei’s face darkened, and Luo ZhouZhou’s eyes narrowed again as he smiled, “I am the little fox.”
Luo Pei’s face changed and colored, and finally he stifled out a sentence, “All right, all right, get out.”
“Then you can’t teach him any more lessons.”
“Yes, get out.”
Behind the villa was a huge artificial lake, with green lotus leaves and tender buds in the middle.
In the afternoon, the family sat under umbrellas on the lakeside lawn, eating dessert and drinking afternoon tea.
Chu Feng and Linda were talking to each other, and Luo Pei seemed to be listening with his eyes half closed. Seeing that no one was paying attention to him, Luo ZhouZhou quietly reached out for the remaining doughnut on his plate.
“I know that the soil in that area of Ike Town is perfect for planting your flower seeds.” Chu Feng, although speaking to Linda, pinched Luo ZhouZhou’s wrist with precision and took it off the table.
“I’ll have another,” Luo ZhouZhou whispered.
“No, you’ve already eaten three.” Chu Feng let go of his hand and continued to chat with Linda.
Luo ZhouZhou looked at the doughnut and covered it with Luo Pei’s newspaper, so that his eyes wouldn’t see it and he wouldn’t crave it.
Luo Pei glanced at him, but didn’t say anything.
The maid brought ice cream, and since Luo Pei and Linda didn’t eat it, she only served two servings. It was served in a clear goblet, and the fragrant softness looked delicious.
“Wow, ice cream.” Luo ZhouZhou looked at Chu Feng, saw that he was talking to Linda, quickly picked up a portion, dug a big spoonful into his mouth, and squinted happily.
“Didn’t you have a stomach ache yesterday after drinking too much iced juice?” Chu Feng suddenly turned to look at him.
“Ah, this ah, this ah.” Luo ZhouZhou said with a guilty conscience, “That’s juice, and this is ice cream, so it’s not the same.”
Chu Feng looked into his eyes for a moment and said, “Come here, I’ll rub your stomach.”
When Luo ZhouZhou approached him, Chu Feng reached in through the hem of his T-shirt and pressed his hand against the soft belly, “You’ve eaten too much and your belly is bulging.”
“Touch it again, touch it again.” Luo ZhouZhou quietly inhaled and let his belly drop.
Chu Feng looked down at the ice cream he was carrying and asked, “Can you give me a bite?”
“There’s more on the table, look.”
Chu Feng said, “I like yours, it’s vanilla.”
“Then you can have it. I like the mango flavor too, I’ll have that one.”
Chu Feng called the maid and asked her to take the other one away, saying, “No, I can’t finish one cup.”
Afterwards, she picked up a spoon and scooped up the whole ball as Luo ZhouZhou watched.
Luo ZhouZhou remembered the time he had bitten off more than half of the ice cream in one bite and tried to say something, but couldn’t. He watched as Chu Feng opened his mouth and slowly bit down on the ball.
“Don’t eat too much, your stomach will hurt.” He said in distress as he watched the ball turn into a little bit.
Chu Feng looked at him with his eyes, but only took a small bite out of the ball.
He handed him the rest and said, “Eat.”
Luo ZhouZhou smiled until his eyes narrowed, quickly took the spoon, and buried himself in his own ice cream.
Chu Feng wiped his mouth with a napkin and continued what he had started with Linda.
The satisfaction on Linda’s face was even deeper, while Luo Pei, although leaning against the sun lounger with his eyes closed, had a subtle smile on his face.
By 10:00 p.m., the two were ready to go back to their home.
Chu Feng said goodbye to Linda, took the homemade dessert she had packed, and went to say goodbye to Luo Pei again.
Luo Pei didn’t respond, but suddenly spoke up when he turned around, “The old man surnamed Yang in the Council of State loves painting, and his favorite painter is Master Hong Sheng from the imperial period. If you know more about Master Hong Sheng’s anecdotes, he will tell you more about them. The old man, surnamed Li, loves red wine, most of all the red wine from the island of Lixi, which is not expensive, but it’s a bit troublesome to bring it here. It so happens I still have two bottles in my collection here.”
Luo Pei turned around and ordered Butler Li, “Bring me the two bottles of wine I have in the second compartment of the wine cabinet.”
“These two old men are usually rigid and stubborn, and I believe that they are the ones who made the most trouble when you modified the Alliance’s program. As long as we settle these two, the rest will be easy,” Luo Pei said bluntly.
After Butler Li fetched the two bottles of wine, Chu Feng took the wine and thanked him, “The General is really thoughtful, thank you.”
Luo Pei snickered, “Old foxes are nothing but thoughtful people.”
Chu Feng choked and looked at Luo ZhouZhou beside him. Luo ZhouZhou hugged his arm and smiled sweetly at him.
When he got home, just after closing the door, Chu Feng picked up Luo ZhouZhou and threw him onto the living room sofa.
“You little fox, you little fox.” He said as he went to lick Luo ZhouZhou’s most ticklish neck while scratching his armpits.
Luo ZhouZhou laughed and begged for mercy as he twisted his whole body around, knocking the couch cushions all over the floor, “Chu Feng, Chu Feng, don’t tickle me, hahahahaha, hahaha.”
“Were you wrong?”
“Wrong, I was wrong, hahahahaha, I was wrong.”
“Wrong about what?”
“I shouldn’t be a little fox, hahahahahahaha…”
Chu Feng stopped and looked at Luo ZhouZhou underneath him.
Luo ZhouZhou was panting heavily, his chest heaving up and down. His face was flushed, his eyes were watery with tears of laughter, and his lips were half-open, faintly revealing the tip of his pink tongue.
Chu Feng slowly lifted the smile from his face and looked down at him both tenderly and warmly, his light brown eyes darkening with a different meaning. Luo ZhouZhou licked his lips, hooked both hands around Chu Feng’s neck, and pressed his own lips to them.
……
The day of the wedding soon came.
Luo ZhouZhou slept at the villa the first night, and Linda repeatedly told him not to stay in bed the next day, that the make-up artist would be there at eight o’clock, and that he had to get up at seven.
“I’ll call you tomorrow at seven, so make sure you’re up on time,” Linda said.
“Yes, I know.”
The next morning, while Linda was still asleep, she heard a soft knock on her door.
“Who is it?” She asked sleepily.
“Mom, it’s me.”
Linda got a start, has she slept through the night?
She hurriedly touched the terminal beside her and looked at the time; only six o’clock in the morning.
“Mom, when is the makeup artist coming?” Luo ZhouZhou asked from outside the door.
Linda was relieved and replied, “Won’t be here until 8:00 a.m. Zhou Zhou, why are you up so early?”
Luo ZhouZhou said, “As soon as I thought of getting married today, I didn’t doze off at all.”
Luo Pei put the blanket over his head and said sulkily, “Look at him, so happy to be married.”
Linda burst out laughing, got up to change her pajamas, and said, “Didn’t you stay up all night the night before our wedding? Running to the wheat field and singing all night, and everyone in town heard you.”
“Then it should have been Chu Feng who couldn’t sleep. Look at Zhou Zhou, look at him.”
Linda went back to the bed, sat beside Luo Pei, and said softly, “Actually, I didn’t fall asleep that night either, I was listening to you sing and laughing under the covers.”
A moment later, Luo Pei lifted the blanket, rolled over and sat up, and said with great energy, “Get up, hurry up and change your dress.”
The Sita Manor was bustling with activity today, with colorful balloons hanging everywhere and flowers being placed.
Outside the auditorium there were people standing in the large garden and on the lawn, exchanging pleasantries and greetings. Farther away, on the lawn by the lake, a group of officers and police officers were posing for pictures and laughing at times.
Luo ZhouZhou stood in front of the lounge window on the second floor, smiling at the people outside. He saw a Xiao Yu in a wheelchair being pushed by a Blue Shark, and was looking around curiously. He saw Qi Fen holding an Alpha on crutches, with a happy smile on his face. He saw Wang Su sitting in the garden, arranging the blanket on Aunt Liu’s lap. He saw Chen SiHan being surrounded by a group of Omegas. He was talking about something with his eyebrows flying, and the Omegas sometimes covered their mouths and looked at him adoringly.
Linda pushed open the door, “Zhou Zhou, it’s time.”
As she watched Luo ZhouZhou take Luo Pei’s arm and go downstairs, she took out a Kleenex to wipe her tears and smiled again.
Chu Feng stood tall and straight on the front platform of the auditorium, wearing a black suit today.
His hair had been treated by a hairdresser to accentuate his full forehead and deep contours, making him even more handsome.
As the music and lights came on, his heart raced and his eyes stared at the door.
When the figure in the white clothing came into view and slowly approached, he felt dizzy at that moment. Happiness instantly exploded in his chest, and he felt that his life was complete.
……
It was late afternoon as the sunset filled the sky, guests were gathered at the entrance to the Sita Manor to see Chu Feng and Luo ZhouZhou off on their honeymoon.
Cheers and applause erupted as the sleek, sapphire blue sports car left, dragging a row of empty cans.
“Let’s go back to drinking and dancing.” Luo Pei laughed loudly.
An old colleague came over and tapped him on the shoulder, “Where did Zhou Zhou and General Chu go for their honeymoon?”
“Tina Island.”
“Oh it’s nice there, a mecca for honeymoons.”
“Young people like surfing, sailing, and so on.” Luo Pei said with a smile.
A full moon shone in the sky, illuminating Mount Karp Snow Mountain, the snow glowing white under the moonlight. The whole world was dreamlike, like a fairyland, both cold and beautiful.
Only occasionally a voice would break the silence of the snowy mountain, which was very unpleasant.
“Zhou Zhou, don’t run too fast… ah, ah, ah… don’t fly from the top of this mountain to the top of that mountain.”
“I’m going to fall off, Zhou Zhou… clouds seem to be under my feet.”
“Zhou Zhou, I’m so cold, I forgot to put on my down jacket…”
A small, disturbed creature peeked out of the snowy cave.
The two strange creatures had stopped chirping and were standing on top of the snowy mountain, feeding on each other with their mouths, and then drew back into the cave in disinterest.
The moonlight was just right as all the creatures fell asleep.
