The Nutrition is Too Good - Chap 5
For the next half an hour, the 29-year-old teacher, Zhong Yi, earnestly gave this young man a lesson on ethics and morality.
The content mainly revolved around how young individuals in the entertainment industry should respect and love themselves, not be blinded by the glamorous world. People may experience temporary poverty, but they should not stray from the right path, and so on.
Rong Mian lowered his eyes, looking at the lunch box that was already cold in his hand, and said nothing.
Later on, Zhong Yi also felt a bit parched in his mouth. During the break, he stared at Rong Mian’s serene profile for a while.
Although, to be honest, being noticed by such a straightforward and handsome young boy undoubtedly affirmed his personal charm. And Zhong Yi rarely had a little itchy in his heart.
But he was just too young.
Zhong Yi thought to himself, “No matter what, I need to bring him back on the right track.”
“Your acting skills are very good,” Zhong Yi sighed and said, “You are still young, and there will be plenty of opportunities in the future. Don’t rush for immediate benefits. Once your acting skills become solid, you will definitely catch up in terms of resources.”
Zhong Yi genuinely spoke these words from the bottom of his heart, but Rong Mian truly did not understand.
He’s so strange, Rong Mian thought.
On that day he clearly said, “I have many friends like you,” and claimed to understand his situation, acknowledging that he knew about his identity.
He didn’t want to look at his tail. Rong Mian thought there was no issue, but he didn’t understand why this person was now standing here, lecturing him with these inexplicable words.
Could it be that this person treated his feline friends with the same strange and persistent attitude?
Rong Mian suddenly missed the time when he didn’t have to work.
When he was in cat form, he could easily ignore the overtures and demands of humans. But now, he had to engage in this confusing and meaningless human social interaction.
Rong Mian slowly raised his eyes, looking at the man, and continued silently sifting through suitable meanings in his mind.
Then Zhong Yi saw the boy nod first, then avert his gaze, his eyelashes obediently drooping as he meekly said, “I understand.”
There was no expected persistence or argumentation, no retort. He agreed so readily and decisively that Zhong Yi was left dumbfounded in his place.
So, all the remaining half of the prepared lecture in Zhong Yi’s mouth became useless. He choked for a moment and could only look at the food in Rong Mian’s hands, forcing out the words, “Is the food not good?”
Rong Mian paused for a moment.
He felt frustrated because this situation couldn’t be answered with any of the universal phrases, so in the end he had no choice but to tell the truth.
“It’s very bad,” Rong Mian said.
Zhong Yi seemed to have anticipated this answer.
“In your case… Are you only willing to eat cat food?” Zhong Yi carefully chose his words, “I don’t know much about your kind, … Anything else you like.”
“Meat is fine,” Rong Mian replied.
He thought for a moment and earnestly added, “Fish and chicken are very tasty, beef and shrimp are also delicious, but canned food is seasoned and tastes a bit better.”
Zhong Yi felt even more perplexed.
He couldn’t help but feel that the situation of someone eating cat food in the bathroom couldn’t simply be categorized as a mere pica, as pica usually involve non-living things like dirt or nails.
His situation… is more like a personal food quirk combined with simple picky eaters.
This belongs to his own privacy, and Zhong Yi realized that he shouldn’t ask any more.
However, he noticed that this child was obedient and didn’t mess up the performance. He didn’t seem like an impulsive and frivolous person.
Maybe it was just a momentary misjudgement.
He thought.
Just after rejecting the other person’s admiration and goodwill, Zhong Yi couldn’t help but have some thoughts of consolation and compensation. So after a moment of contemplation, he patted Rong Mian’s shoulder as if comforting him.
“Let’s go.”
Zhong Yi stood up straight and said, “I’ll take you to meet a snack master.”
The afternoon scene was outdoors, the sun was shining brightly, and the temperature had become warmer.
Shen Yan’s character was quite eye-catching, wearing a floral long dress with a smiling face, a person who seemed to have a floral scent in her hair, a gentle and kind people’s teacher.
She played the role of Rong Mian’s chemistry teacher, and at the same time, she was an old friend of Zhong Yi in the play. At first glance, she appeared to be a tool to connect the plot little by little.
“Sister Yan, your makeup today is really gentle. With a small braided bun, the charm of a graceful lady immediately emerges.”
The staff over there are still debugging the equipment. Zhong Yi started with a teasing tone and said, “I almost believed it.”
They have been teasing each other for so many years, so Shen Yan didn’t have much of a reaction, just chuckled.
She happened to be tired of standing, and she didn’t hesitate and directly kicked Zhong Yi off the wheelchair, lifted her skirt, and happily sat down.
“Let me introduce a little friend to you.”
Zhong Yi casually pointed to Rong Mian behind him and said, “This is the prime suspect in the recent high school campus poisoning case, very dangerous. Please keep a safe distance.”
“He is also the top student in our class.”
Shen Yan naturally continued his words, “He got the highest score in the last chemistry quiz, my favourite student representative in chemistry. Do I need you to introduce him to me?”
Rong Mian blinked.
Zhong Yi and Shen Yan chatted casually, and the atmosphere became relaxed. But Rong Mian still didn’t know what to say. When he stared blankly at his toes, Shen Yan’s assistant brought an expensive large tote bag.
“Take a look at this.”
Zhong Yi seemed accustomed to this kind of situation. He told Rong Mian, “This is Yanyan’s gift package.”
At first, Rong Mian didn’t understand what it meant, but then he saw Shen Yan majestically unzip the bag and take out package after package of melon seeds, fruit jelly, and egg yolk pastries.
As she took them out, she skilfully tossed them into Zhong Yi’s arms. Zhong Yi didn’t hesitate and caught each package with his hands.
Finally, he picked up one of the packages, examined it for a moment, and threw it into Rong Mian’s arms.
Rong Mian hugged it in a daze, lowered his head, and saw a bag of five-spice beef jerky.
Zhong Yi and Shen Yan ate melon seeds and chatted for a while. After a while, Zhong Yi glanced at his side and noticed that Rong Mian had just slowly unwrapped the packaging of the beef jerky.
But he didn’t immediately take a bite. Instead, he lowered his head and sniffed it cautiously in front of his nose.
Zhong Yi want to laugh.
Rong Mian had just made a simple judgment based on the smell, he confirmed that the beef jerky was not spicy, sour, or of any strange flavour. He hesitated for a moment, preparing to swallow it in one bite to test the taste when he heard Shen Yan exclaim beside him, “Butterfly!”
Rong Mian’s ears perked up.
Their shooting location was in the suburbs, and some vegetables were grown sparsely in the vegetable garden outside the wall. Although the growth was average, the temperature was getting warmer in early spring, and it happened to be a sunny afternoon, so they saw two or three of butterflies flying around. The butterfly is flying slowly around the vegetable garden.
Shen Yan is a person who posts ten Weibo posts a week, with three advertisements and seven selfies. She was thinking about finding an opportunity to take a selfie and promote her new drama. And just like that, she got an idea.
She took out her phone and tried to take a selfie with a butterfly. But every time she found the right angle and pressed the shutter, the butterfly happily fluttered its wings and flew away, leaving only a faint silhouette in the photo.
Shen Yan gradually became frustrated.
Zhong Yi was speechless. He was about to tease her when he inadvertently glanced at the person beside him, and he was slightly startled.
Rong Mian was also staring at the butterfly.
More precisely, he was fixating on one of the white butterflies with his sharp eyes. It didn’t look like he was appreciating it; rather, he seemed to be… predicting its flight path.
Then, Rong Mian suddenly reached out his hand.
He was quick and decisive, without any hesitation. Zhong Yi felt that in the blink of an eye, Rong Mian swiftly withdrew his hand, leaving only a brown butterfly flapping in the air.
The white butterfly was already pinched between Rong Mian’s fingertips, fluttering its wings weakly.
Rong Mian slowly lowered his eyes, and looked at it calmly, seemingly unsurprised by his accurate strike.
Zhong Yi: “……?”
After contemplating for a while, Rong Mian lifted his head.
With one hand still holding the bag of beef jerky and the other pinching the half-dead butterfly, he walked up to Shen Yan and somewhat stiffly said, “Here, for you.”
Shen Yan, who witnessed the entire process, had her eyes almost popping out.
She was both surprised and delighted. After all, a butterfly was still a fluttering insect. She hesitated and didn’t dare to touch it. Rong Mian seemed to see through her thoughts and paused before saying, “I’ll let it go, you take a photo with it.”
Shen Yan quickly agreed. Shen Yan found the right angle in front of the flowers. Rong Mian let go, and the butterfly fluttered its wings, escaping from his palm. Shen Yan happened to blow a sweet kiss, and the photo was captured. Shen Yan felt happy.
“Your hand speed are really incredible.”
Shen Yan lowered her head and opened a photo editing software but hesitated as she asked, “I feel like when you extended your hand, the butterfly was instantly caught by you. How did you manage to do that?”
Rong Mian replied, “Because I used to catch them often, their movement patterns are actually quite simple, so it’s not difficult to catch them.”
“And I can catch flying insects, spiders, and even birds.”
He thought for a moment and added carefully, “But if the flying insect is too small, it won’t work.”
Zhong Yi and Shen Yan fell silent at the same time.
Shen Yan muttered, “You… , you’re really amazing.”
Rong Mian asked, “Do you want more?”
Shen Yan stammered and said she didn’t need any more.
Rong Mian lightly acknowledged with a nod. His expression remained unchanged, but he lowered his head again, returning to his introverted mode, and continued to struggle with the beef jerky in his hand.
However, Zhong Yi could see clearly. At the moment he heard Shen Yan’s praise, Rong Mian’s eyelashes trembled lightly, like the wings of a butterfly. Although he quickly lowered his gaze and began to unwrap another piece of beef jerky, Zhong Yi still caught that fleeting spark of joy in his eyes.
What was it like?
Zhong Yi pondered for a moment.
It’s like a little animal holding a loot in its mouth to claim credit for its owner, and pretending not to care when it is praised, but its tail still can’t help but wag slightly.
Beef jerky is vacuum-sealed and the packaging is difficult to tear open. It took a while for Rong Mian to tear open the second piece.
It tastes really good, and the flavour of the five-spice seasoning becomes more addictive the more you eat. Rong Mian took a moment to chew on the beef jerky, looked up, and met Zhongyi’s gaze again.
Rong Mian felt that Zhongyi’s expression was a bit strange.
He couldn’t tell, so he could only slowly swallowed the beef jerky, turned to look at the flower bed behind him, where Shen Yan was busy taking pictures, and then turned back to observe Zhongyi’s expression again. He felt like he understood something.
The beef jerky is really delicious.
Rong Mian started to analyze in his mind: although it wasn’t Zhong Yi who bought the beef jerky, he specifically gave it to himself, so he should also reciprocate.
So Rong Mian raised his eyes and asked Zhong Yi, “Do you want it too?”
This was a simple question with no extra details, but Zhong Yi felt like there was a fluttering moth in his throat, itchy and unable to speak.
Rong Mian remained calm, his eyes were large and round, with long eyelashes. It was a very pure, deceptive look.
Just half an hour ago, he had just rejected the goodwill from this young boy, and Zhong Yi knew that the best thing for him to do now was to avoid suspicion and not let him have any other thoughts, instead —
“Okay.”
Zhong Yi heard himself say, “Give me three, please.”
