Thrive in Catastrophe - Chap 3
Chapter 3 Accidental Kiss
(edited for grammatical errors)
Xiao Yan had yet to recover from his shock.
“I told you to keep up, didn’t I?”
A low voice squeezed out between his teeth. Without knowing when, Heine had come back, supporting himself with one hand on the ground and holding a blade in another.
With a light swing, the zombie was hurled off like garbage, causing a loud crash when it smashed against a distant wall.
This guy had obviously been far off…… What kind of speed was it that let him appear so suddenly?
Heine’s side profile was all Xiao Yan could see then. He had a softness around his eyes, whereas the arch of his brows and the bridge of his nose were, by contrast, hard and frigid.
As though a praetor of God who was needless of human emotions.
“Get up.” With a swing of Heine’s arm, a keen and beautiful arc sliced through the air, cutting his sight in half.
Xiao Yan gulped and chased after Heine.
Mark had already gone into the nuclear power plant with Captain White.
They were heading to the innermost part of the ruin where the untouched raw materials of Uranium were stored.
However, they were unsure if this location had been disclosed in the past two hundred years.
Numerous zombies were attracted to this place and the blade in Heine’s hand was killing endlessly. His movements were quick and agile, and every angle his blade slashed through was so accurate as though they were calculated in precision. A preciseness that could make a person’s blood run cold.
Mark forcefully kicked open the door that leads into the nuclear power plant and the rusty metal let out a loud screech.
Captain White nearly tumbled to the ground in shock.
“I thought you said…… not to make any noise that could lead them here?”
Mark glared at Xiao Yan before pulling out the respirator hanging from his waist. He stuffed the respirator onto Captain White’s face and dragged him inside by his collar.
Xiao Yan turned to Heine. Heine reached a hand out to him with a similar respirator dangling from his index finger, swaying woefully in the air.
Xiao Yan took the respirator and before he could say his thanks, Heine turned away and kicked the door close.
It seemed that Heine had no intention to put on the mask.
The only source of light was shut off and everything was plunged into darkness.
Xiao Yan chased after Heine quickly.
The electricity of the building had long since been terminated and the confined space seemed to be pervaded by some unknown energy.
Heine drew out a light emitter from his waistband and the passage was lit up once again. The light emitter hovered above their heads and continued exploring ahead.
Gradually, they began seeing twisted corpses scattered on the ground.
A moment of discomfort pricked Xiao Yan’s heart. He somehow felt that these corpses weren’t humans, but zombies.
Opening layers and layers of doors, they finally entered the reaction center of the power plant.
Everything in here was old and worn-out. Xiao Yan missed his footing and fell off the ladder. He landed on the ground hard causing his face to be covered in dust.
He winced in pain while getting up from the ground, and when he raised his head, he saw Heine looking down at him coldly.
Xiao Yan felt a surge of anger, but he did not have the chance to flare-up under the sense of oppression from Heine.
Xiao Yan stood up despite the throbbing pain coming from his arms and legs. Heine and Mark did not have the slightest intention to wait for him.
They continued ahead.
At last, they arrived at the most concealed area of the nuclear power plant -the storage area of the uranium raw materials.
Looking at the device that was a look-alike of a ship’s helm, Xiao Yan recognised that it was a vault at first sight.
“Hey, open it up.” Mark dragged Captain White towards the vault door.
Captain White was stupefied for a moment and took a step back. “Th-This is too antiquated…… everything is information oriented and network-based now, without a terminal to operate…… I-I don’t know how to open this door……”
“What? You good-for-nothing!” Mark was about to punch his fist into Captain White’s face.
“Mark.”
Heine only called him once and Mark’s fist halted in mid air.
“Oh come on! I thought you technical soldiers were so amazing! I should have fed you guys to the zombies! Boss, what do we do now? Should we blast open this thingy?”
“There’s uranium on the other side of the door.”
“…… what to do then?” Mark’s eye rested on Xiao Yan, “Hey! Rookie! What about you?”
Xiao Yan tried to retain a safe distance from Mark. He took a step back sideways and bumped into someone’s chest.
Nerves frayed, Xiao Yan’s body turned back slowly. He saw the delicate but apathetic look of Heine Burton, as though nothing could cause him to waver.
“Unlock the door.”
A short and commanding tone, as though he firmly believed that Xiao Yan could do it.
“Yes…… Colonel.”
Damn it, you think I can open it just because you say so? Yeah, I would love to unlock it too, but I’m not sure if I have that ability! There were plenty of senior apprentices in that aircraft, why did you have to drag me, of all people, into this!
Despite his endless grievances in the depth of his heart, Xiao Yan did not dare to show the slightest displeasure on his face, in fact, he was jittering.
Xiao Yan forced himself to stand before the door and started examining it attentively.
“This thing was probably controlled numerically two hundred years ago, but now all the power has broken down. To open it, we have to connect it to a power supply. Do you have a wireless terminal and a power supply unit?”
“Yea,” Mark threw a bag to Xiao Yan, “This was left behind by the two dead techinical soldiers. All that remained of them after being torn apart were their bones and this backpack. The stuffs that you want are probably in there!”
Xiao Yan broke out in a cold sweat internally. He did not understand why did Mark have to explain to him in such details. He did not have the slightest interest in knowing the last moments of the two soldiers!
Sure enough, Xiao Yan found the power supply and the wireless terminal that were prepared for this mission as he unpacked the bag.
After some exploration on the devices, Xiao Yan had a faint idea on the connecting point for the power supply.
Mark truly had superhuman strength. He actually tore off the iron plate from the vault door to reveal the antiquated electrical wire. Xiao Yan then stripped off the wires with tools before carefully connecting them with the external power supply.
“Hey, did you learnt this from the academy?” Captain White wondered why Xiao Yan was accustomed to the workings of such an ancient power supply system.
“Of course not. I occasionally saw this in the historical readings from the library. However, it’s been so many years. I’m not sure if this door will activate even if it’s connected to the power source. The only thing left to do now is to test the door’s password with the terminal.”
Xiao Yan connected the password sensor of the door with the wireless terminal and started calculating.
“We’ve got the password!”
Xiao Yan read out the numbers while Mark turned the vault handle. First there was a screech, followed by a cloud of dust, as though an untouched moment was unveiled silently.
On the other side of the door, was almost like a black hole.
The light emitter flew in and lit up the whole space.
Mark was the first to enter. Captain White was hesitant but he still trailed along behind Mark into the storage room.
Heine gave Xiao Yan a cold glance and Xiao Yan quickly lifted the backpack and followed him.
There were countless metal boxes within the storage room. Heine scanned through the boxes with a scanner and nodded at Mark.
There was a special device within each of these metal boxes that ensured the stability of the raw uranium. And because of this, the boxes were secured in position, preventing them from being lifted.
“Hey! Technical soldiers! Do something!”
Seeing Mark’s hand that was about to slap his back, Xiao Yan ducked away quickly. If he were to be hit by this guy, Xiao Yan had no doubt that his spine would break.
However, what Xiao Yan never thought of was that he would once again bump into Heine Burton’s chest.
As before, Heine remained unshaken, whereas Xiao Yan felt that he had bumped into a steep cliff.
Not daring to look back, Xiao Yan cautiously shifted away from the presence behind him.
“Hey! I reckon you technical soldier! Are you into our Boss? Or else why do you keep on bumping into our Boss’s chest?” Mark walked towards Xiao Yan while rubbing his chin.
“N-No……”
Xiao Yan shook his head rapidly. To fall for someone like Heine Burton was no different than digging his own grave!
The X-virus did not only boost the physical and recovery abilities of the Special Force, it also enhanced the stamina that could make one go senseless in bed……
21 years ago, a major incident occurred within the Special Task Forces.
It happened on the night when a Special Force soldier, who had garrisoned at an external base throughout the year, headed back to Charles city and united with his lover. He had such fierce yearning for his lover that he lost control in bed and his lover suffered from a cardiac arrest in the middle of making love. Based on the autopsy report, his lover did not only suffer from the suffocation caused by an overly-long orgasm, but had also fractured his ribs and left arm, together with dislocation of both legs.
In short, the consequences of making love with a Special Force soldier was exceptionally horrifying.
Ever since that incident, the Central Academy of Science had attempted to resolve this issue, but the price to pay was that the combat abilities of the Special Task Forces would be diminished.
As this was not acceptable, the military could only issue a prohibition that forbid Special Forces to have sexual relationships with non-special combatants.
However, aside from strict adherence during the first few years of implementation, this prohibition had gradually became a mere scrap of paper. This was because the gender ratio in Special Task Forces had reached 1 female to 20 males and these soldiers needed to fulfil their biological needs.
For the non-special combatants, having sex with Special Force soldiers was as addictive as drugs. Despite knowing the danger, they continually threw themselves forward like moths to a flame as they fell to the Special Force soldiers’ charms.
Xiao Yan had once overheard his senior who had described her experience with a Special Force soldier. Without any body contact, she was able to have a sexual hallucination just under the opponent’s intense gaze. And when he kissed her, she felt that, for the first time in her life, she had devoted herself entirely into a kiss. She had never had such an incredibly senseless experience with any other man.
Well, it was lucky that her boyfriend had great self-control.
However, it was a different story for Xiao Yan.
He never had the wild urge to pursue thrills and excitements. What he had always wanted from the bottom of his heart was to live an idle and peaceful life, except for a little excessive curiosity. And since he knew that it was dangerous, he would never attempt it.
Besides, he’s still hung up on his gorgeous classmate Lily! Even if he were going to bring the fantasies about someone to death, surely that’s going to be Lily! Heine Burton would definitely be a nightmare!
Wait a minute. What did this have to do with Heine Burton? Even if he were to have any enticing ideas about a Special Force soldier, it would be a beauty like Reeve and not Heine Burton!
“If you’re not, could you get rid of this pile of boxes quickly!”
Xiao Yao turned around when he heard the cracking sound coming from Mark’s knuckles.
He looked back subconsciously and saw the lofty stance of Heine. Heine patted his chest meticulously, as though Xiao Yan was no more than the dust in the room.
If he did not want to be killed, he would have to resolve the problem in hand quickly!
Xiao Yan crouched on the ground instantly and started examining the device that secured the metal box in place. And after scanning through them, he confirmed that these special devices that sustained the raw uranium were removable and the metal boxes only functioned as a container. He plugged in the securing device of the metal box with the power source and prepared to simulate the removal process.
After some exploration, Xiao Yan finally found a way, “It’ll be done soon!”
It turned out that Xiao Yan was not so lucky lately, or should he say, he’s having real rotten luck……
Xiao Yan was feeling tired from crouching for so long and as he tried to stand up sideways, the loosened respirator fell from his face.
Without warning, his lips brushed against something soft and warm. Before he could savor the unique feeling, in the next second, his neck was strangled by a hand and his whole body was lifted.
Xiao Yan clutched the strong and powerful wrist, and only then he realised that the thing he had brushed against just now was Heine’s lips!
For a moment, his icy cold eyes were filled with murderous intent. Xiao Yan’s larynx was about to be fractured by him….
“Boss! Boss—— We haven’t completed our mission yet! This fellow can’t die!”
Mark darted forward as if he wanted to pry open the fingers that were strangling Xiao Yan’s throat. However, he did not even dare to touch Heine the moment he stood before him.
Xiao Yan bellowed internally, for once, he found Mark helpful!
