Thrive in Catastrophe - Chap 48
“You are dead, Xiao Yan! I was so scared, so worried. You don’t report back, you don’t answer my calls…are you tired of living?”
After almost strangling him, Casey finally let go. ..but he wasn’t quite done. He pinched Xiao’s face twisting his cheek almost 360 degrees.
“You come back to the Shire and don’t even bother to report to me. Bastard! Do you even remember I am your research director?!”
Xiao Yan eyes water in pain and he can’t squeeze out a single word. He knows that the more worried that Casey is about him, the greater his strength. Judging from his grip now, he must have been scared to death. This time, he really needs to give Casey a heartfelt apology…. but can’t do it right now.
Other researchers look over at Xiao’s twisted face with sympathy. They had worked with Casey for awhile and knew his tendency towards violence.
“So very worried… I heard that guy Gordon sent you to the Surge base. Ugh! I haven’t slept in days!”
Only Casey would refer to the major general as ‘that guy’. He was worthy of his rank. Gordon really should have sent Casey instead of him.
Finally Casey released him and watched as Xiao’s face immediately swelled from his strong grip. He looked at him with soft affection. Sure enough, Casey’s style had not changed. Sugar and whips.
Casey’s forehead settled onto his chest and instantly Xiao’s pained indignation and anger disappeared.
“The special forces had the highest casualty rate ever in one mission. I looked at the long list of death over and over again until I felt reassured that your name was not among them. Only then could I breathe.”
Xiao’s eyes watered a bit, but he was determined to change the direction of their conversation. Looking at Casey’s face, he was about to erupt. Xiao Yan was quite afraid of Casey’s wronged roars.
“I’m fine! Colonel Burton and Colonel Wallace both personally protected me!”
“Ugh! Jane Wallace is too unreliable. Tell me! Did that guy do anything to you? Is your ass alright?”
Xiao Yan scratched his head in confusion as the meaning of Casey’s words slowly sank in. His face bloomed bright red and his cheeks burned. “What’s he have to do with my ass?”
Casey sighed in relief his expression relaxing. “Ah good. Is seems your butt is still safe.”
A loud clapping sound penetrated the chatter in the room, the complaining and grumbling tightened to silence in an instant.
A special forces solder stood in front. He was lean and fair skinned, his badge indicating the young man was already a major.
“Hello, senior respectable research fellows of the institute. I am your physical training instructor, Major Winn. I am part of Colonel Burton’s team. If you find that the training is too harsh or that I am too cruel, you are welcome to take it up with Colonel Heine Burton.”
His operatically exaggerated tone pierces through everyone’s grievances, hooking their attention.
Winn had soft thick brown hair that fell to his shoulders. The young major looked about the same age as Casey, though much taller at 180 cm. His combat uniform hugged the lean sinewy lines of his body perfectly. His stern expression couldn’t overcome his boyish features and his bright smile encourages one to underestimate his skills. How can someone so young have such a rank? Xiao, who knows the power of the special forces–no matter how they may appear, had no doubt this guy could bust their heads open with a flick of his finger.
